Do you Sleep with your doll? Is it Weird?

Oct 26, 2016

    1. This is actually really sweet! :whee:

    2. I've thought about it but I'm a rough sleeper so she'd probably end up on the floor. :aeyepop:

    3. I don’t think my husband would be all that impressed

    4. I did my first few nights of college - I tucked her up in the top corner where I couldn't fling her when I moved during the night & stuck a pillow between us as a barricade jic lol

Other than that, no. They now have their own room tho :sweat

    5. Nope, but they're all chilling in my room when they're not being customized. The bed is for plushies, which I have a LOT of...

    6. I've struggled with insomnia most of my life, so it's hard for me to fall asleep without my husband next to me. That being said, if I'm traveling to visit family on my own for up to a week, I'll take a doll with me to help me sleep (usually Jaeda, my Sist/Mnf hybrid). I rarely move around in my sleep and usually have her a foot or so away from me. Without her, I'd go days without sleep.

    7. Then, my work here is done :3nodding: xo

    8. Ever since I got my grail doll in 2016 (on my photo), I always sleep with him. Never had any problem. He is 72 cm and so heavy and has pointy ears, so sometimes i awake for a little pain LOL but totally worth it.

    9. To keep the doll even more safe you can put it in its own bed like I don't know one of those baby crib things next to your bed with the door open. Do the cribs have doors? To answer your question I don't sleep with my dolls like i would a stuffed plush. I thought about it because I didn't know how resin smells and how it's hard. I thought it would bring me comfort like a stuffed toy while asleep, but it's too expensive to have it with me, it's face up can get ruined, I would think it would mellow faster (not sure), it will fall off the bed because I move in my sleep (I've gotten better at not moving), I tend to push things off my bed in my sleep, I am accident prone I might hurt myself, and my dogs will most definitely if given the chance chew on it. I'm so accident prone my sister wants to put those baby protecting cushioning things around our home. I keep slamming my hands into the walls and doors. I already bumped into the laundry door a few times. When I sleep I sometimes accidentally punch my own nose when trying to adjust my comforter and gave myself a nose bleed. That is how clumsy I am. If there is a 75 cm doll on my bed i might somehow really accidentally hurt myself. I was swinging my plush by its limbs before (because I oddly find it comforting) and smacked myself so many times in the face by accident.

Now I have a pile of dogs sleeping on me, so i don't sleep with a stuffed plushie anymore because they like to do things to my plush toys besides chewing on it. Now my plush toys have retired to be just looked at instead of sleep in bed with me. I can't even use my plush toys as pillows because my dogs take then to do things to them.

    10. I don't sleep with my dolls, I think they are too delicate for that, I usually keep them in cabinets.

    11. Only once, on accident. I think it was when I was sick one time and pretty much spent all day in bed, but I'd dragged myself out to grab a doll and some knitting. Fell asleep that evening, woke up the next morning with the horrible realization both were still in bed with me! Thankfully the doll was a bit away, but the knitting was a mess.

Other than that, no. I don't want to risk breaking the doll or hurting myself.

    12. The only time I’ve done this was when my husband was out of town cause I didn’t want to sleep alone LOL

    13. If it wasn't for a neighbor (flooding my room), all my dolls would have been up a high shelf that I had set up for them. They now sit at my head and side of me at night on slim shelving. I can't have them sit on their furniture/my computer desk like when I first got in the hobby because I now have a dog and no longer have a desk. All my windows have UV filters on them due to my own allergy so leaving them in the open isn't a huge issue for me anymore especially with the UV Superclear on the dolls. So they tend to just yellow with time now compared to when I didn't use it.
Though I can't say I've never fell asleep with any in my bed beside me because I have and they where always on my partners side of the bed while hand sewing stuff for them. I'm not worried about them because I tend to not move at all when I sleep.

    14. it was in 2018 when I first got into the hobby. I bought my first doll. For two days she slept next to me))), I didn’t let go of her, I really liked her .... I think this is normal))

    15. I don't think it's weird.
I've slept with 1/4 and 1/3 size on the other side of a double bed when I'm at my parents' place because there's nowhere else to put them.
Sometimes I'll also just watch a movie with a bjd sitting in my lap or beside me. Resin is oddly comforting.

    16. Not weird. It's just a preference. I personally don't do it because I view/prefer dolls that are more art form dolls then regular ones.

    17. I think that sounds absolutely adorable having your doll share the bed with you ^^
For me though I'd be too afraid to roll over in my sleep and push my doll off the bed, as I do often toss and turn a lot in my sleep.

    18. I do have one or two on my bed from time to time, but it isn't a regular or routine thing. When I'm not doing well I tend to enjoy the company. My dolls are already on either side of my bed in a fairly small room, so they're always nearby to begin with. I have trouble sleeping in a room without them now :sweat

    19. I'm a big fan of doll nightstand occupation and not such a big fan of accidentally drooling on my doll while snapping off their fingers.

    20. I’ve been sleeping with the same stuffed cow for 19 years. I can’t imagine him being keen on sharing LOL

    21. My bed has a shelf on the headboard, and that's where my Mae sits. So she kind of shares the bed with me, in a sense!

    22. my girlfriend has made the comment that I would "sleep with my dolls if they were more durable" before....and she was so right for that.

    23. I don’t sleep with my MSDs, too afraid something bad would happen. But… I sleep with a Cabbage Patch Kid. She’s not my original CPK from my youth, but she’s the closest I could find. They’re cuddly and just the right size, and I’m not afraid of wrecking her. I don’t always have her in my bed but when I’m feeling very anxious (I have cPTSD) and can’t sleep I cuddle her and I get the hugest rush of endorphins, I can literally feel them all over! :XD: My wiener dog also loves lying her head down and using her as a pillow, haha. My husband doesn’t mind, as long as she stays on my side of the bed.

    24. I toss and turn around too much. My dolls will fall off the bed, or worse, get hurt and broken! If I didn't sleep in such a way and/or my dolls were more durable, then I think it would be a different story. Right now they can watch me while I sleep, and my stuffed animals can fill the space beside me

    25. Nooope I don't want to squish my doll!

    26. It's unusual but not weird at all, and I say that because I've done it before! Most of the time, it's because I'm working on something for my dolls (usually clothes!) and I can't be bothered to carry them the few steps it'd take to put them back onto their shelf, lollll. It helps a lot that not only is my bed against the wall but I have an entire line of stuffed animals that pad that wall, so I don't fear too much that my BJD will get banged against it while I sleep. I also put a smaller plush between myself and my BJD just so there's less chance of me pressing down on their legs or delicate hands or feet by accident. I don't tend to thrash around in my sleep very often, so I honestly feel like my dolls are quite safe with me on my bed.

BUT with that said! Resin seems very creaky, especially with bigger dolls! I've only slept once with my bigger SD boy this way, and his legs and joints were quite audible whenever I'd push against him just turning in bed. It's also hard to shake off that sense of needing to be extra cautious "just in case," so in the end, I just feel better with my dolls on my shelf rather than beside me at night.

Plus, like little sparks said here, much better that my dolls are free to roam at night! At least this way they won't need to climb over my dead-asleep body to do so! :XD:

    27. No way, they'd most likely end up damaged in some way. Plus, they have their fair share of pointy bits.

I like the idea of laying them down on a tiny bed next to mine, though.

    28. I don't think it's weird, but I wouldn't do it- rolling over on poky resin fingers and noses sounds painful, to say nothing of the risk of crushing eyelashes and scuffing faceups. They sit on my bookshelf, and get regular hugs when I'm standing up or sitting down.

    29. When my dolls are in storage I keep them in the drawer under my bed, if this counts xD

And when they are on display, I stand them in front of my wardrobe, which I can see from my bed. So it feels like they're with me.

But, no, I have never actually slept with a bjd. I could probably manage it as my bed is big enough and I only use one side of it (the other side is for my jellycats) and apparently when I sleep I'm so still it's like I'm dead. So I don't think I would be likely to roll onto it. I'd just rather leave them looking all pretty and posed where they are :) Sometimes I sit on the floor with them before I go to bed, and kiss the tops of their heads <3

    30. I will sometimes chill in bed with my doll and nod off, but I don’t intentionally sleep with my doll directly in bed next to me. I do have a little pet bed I’ll lie her in next to my bed, I’ll sit her on my night stand when I’m in the mood for a dolly sleep over. It is funny when I wake up, forgetting I put the doll there, seeing her next to me lol.

    31. Not in my bed, but I have an L shaped sectional couch. I had dental surgery last week and found it comforting to set her near the head of my pillow with a hand outstretched to hold her as I drift off. It just relaxes me knowing she is near :kitty1

    32. I have a pillow that I use as a mattress, a smaller doll pillow and a little blanket at the far corner of my bed. If I am working on the dolls portion of the story and having trouble getting a handle on the doll, I might have it sit there while I am laying in bed writing. Then when it's bed time, I will tuck the doll into bed. Or if the doll looks particularly lonely on the shelf for some reason. Or if I feel sick. I don't do this very often, but I let them sleep over sometimes.

I don't toss much in my sleep, so I don't worry about the doll falling or rolling, also my bed is against a wall, and the footboard would prevent any doll from falling out. I used to sleep with a whole row of American Girl dolls against the wall and they never moved. I am a light sleeper but I also sleep like the dead. :aangel:

    33. I don't sleep with my doll. And, uh, I actually think it's weird... :sweat A plushie I can understand, and I did sleep with one as a kid, but a plastic doll? Don't know if I'll ever understand that... Then again, I think kissing and hugging resin BJDs is strange too. Maybe it's me who's the weird one! haha

That said, my dolls are usually sitting on/standing at the shelves opposite my bed, I like seeing them first thing when I wake up and last thing when I sleep. The other day I was playing with them and they all ended up in other parts of my home... and when I went to bed that night, I felt something was missing! So I brought one back into the bedroom. :whee:

    34. I toss and turn horribly at night... also my cat sleeps with me... so probably a bad idea...

As for "is it weird?" Life is weird! We're all here talking to strangers, who live on different continents across the globe, through electronic signals sent by satellite or undersea cable, about humanoid figurines made of dead plankton! If it's fine for you, and it doesn't damage the doll, why not??

    35. She's not directly in my bed with me (she'd end up in the floor like my poor plushies...), but I have a little ritual with my Rafayeh where I make sure to place her in her carrier on my dresser before I go to bed. I like to think of it like I'm putting her to bed too. So... kinda!

    36. I don't put them in my bed, but all three of my dolls when they were new, I made them a bed and kept it on my nightstand, tucking them in and everything! Not sure how I'm gonna pull this off with my upcoming 1/4 girlie and 1/3 mans, but,,,

    37. Sleeping with a doll on one large pillow is easy! especially if this doll is long-awaited and rare! In the morning you open your eyes, and she lies next to you and looks at you) I think that we are all doll collectors like that, a little crazy

    38. I do, actually! It wasn’t like that always, though. My boy Nico has very big elf ears (DollChateau Alva, those ears go crazy), so I was scared to sleep next to him. Over time, however, I realised that I practically don’t toss and turn in my bed and if I lay him on his own separate pillow he will be safe for sure. And yeah, now he sleeps with me! I find it really comforting to hold his little hand before falling asleep, or to run my fingers through his hair. One time I fell asleep too quickly and didn’t pull away from him, so when I woke up the first thing I saw was his cute little face! It felt like I fell asleep on his chest, which was actually somewhat true, haha
I can see why people might see it as weird, but I think if it makes you happy, why not do something weird, right?

      • x 1
    39. I wouldn't say it was necessarily weird, although I could see why some people would think so.

I would never personally sleep with my SDs or MSDs, due to their delicate lashes, slender fingers, and how pinchy some of their joints can be. But I will admit I have slept with one of my yosd babies. It just felt cozy having his silky hair rest against my chin. I did his face up myself so I am not concerned about scratching up an expensive job, and his fingers are mostly stuck together, so that isn't a risk either.
I think at the end of the day, it's just what you feel most comfortable with. And as long as you don't tell anyone yourself, then who is going to know?!

      • x 1
    40. I'm also on team "no". I prefer soft and furry dorries that I can hug close to me instead of hard limbs and sharp joints.

      • x 1
    41. For a brief time I had slept with mine, to pet her hair as I fell asleep. It was very therapeutic. I stopped to keep her safe though. Thankfully around that time our cat came back and became my new sleeping buddy, filling the void of petting something soft as I doze

    42. I don't think it's weird, no. But I wouldn't do it myself. I'm too worried I'd knock them off the bed or somehow they'd get broken. My partner and I share a queen sized bed, and have concrete floors. Not to mention, said partner is a little creeped out by them so I'm sure if I brought one to sleep with he'd most likely have something to say about it.

    43. If I had a large enough bed, honestly I wouldn't mind sitting them on the bed against the wall. But I have a small bed, and two cats and a large dog + a small laptop so sadly no.

Though when I was about 14? I passed out in the back of a packed car on a long drive holding my Delf Chiwoo when I had him and my family took a picture. I think thats the only time I slept with my doll lmao.

    44. Not weird at all!!! I do it as well with various dolls I have! It’s a great comfort to me, they often have their own side of the bed or if I want to hold them closer they get wrapped up nicely in a padded wrapping blanket so no damage is done :whee:

    45. I take naps with my Lusion since she is huge but I don't sleep with her at night because I'm afraid that I can broker her

    46. I'm too afraid to sleep with my doll (or anything besides extra pillows/blankets) on my bed. I roll around and change positions a lot, so I worry that I'd damage her somehow or end up pushing her onto the floor!

    47. I'm a complete sleep menace. I kick, I turn, I spin around and I occasionally have night terrors. A doll next to me in bed would be a doll in danger, so it's sadly a hard no for me.
