Do you Sleep with your doll? Is it Weird?

Oct 26, 2016

    1. I don't actually sleep with my doll cause I prefer cuddling with an extra long cat plushie, but my doll sits next to the sofa I sleep on, so I can look at her when I am falling asleep. This is really anxiety soothing, plus she is sitting in a roombox with lights, so it is fascinating to watch then blinking. And I used to cuddle with my doll before going to bed untill she got her makeup and blushing.

    2. Only once or twice. When I got my first doll my bed was lofted, and I was terrified I would turn over and she'd drop off in the middle of the night. They're way too precious to me to have my unconscious self mess them up!

    3. I cant sleep with my doll if I wanted to because I sleep soo crazzyy that I would push her over the bed :D :D But it is not weird to sleep with them I mean a lot of people sleep with their stuffed dolls ...

    4. I am worried about my oils getting on my dolls when I am fully awake and (ostensibly) in control of my hands/body...I would be terrified of what would happen to them if I were unconscious. Not to mention the possible falls people mention, my pillow ends up on the floor more mornings than not.

    5. I'm in the "I move too much at night" camp to sleep with a doll, but I'm interested in like, hanging out with one. Holding it, carrying it, taking it places with me, etc. The thought of falls certainly haunts me but I'm thinking it's just the price of life. Humans break too, and we live our lives without fear, or at least that's what I'm trying to think.

    6. There was a time when my boyfriend didn't want to sleep next to me in our bed, because he had Problems with his back and needed to sleep on a harder surface. He slept on a futon so the place next to me was empty. At this time I received a doll that I loved very much and he slept there a few weeks.
It's strange what it does psychologically. It was very hard to get used to it when I decided a human bed is not a place for a doll. It also triggered my boyfriend to come back to bed. He was actually kind of jealous (though he never said it). I feel like he doesn't like seing me getting too attached to my dolls and I feel awkward being overly touchy with them in front of him.

Today I sometimes go to bed earlier, take the doll I feel like spending time with and lay in bed with this doll for a while, enjoying how cute he looks while he's lying there with me, stroking his head and enjoying the comfort. Before I go to sleep I bring him back to the others. They all sit together on a pretty couch. There he cuddles with his dollfriends.

I would never dare sleeping in with my doll in my arms. I think its too dangerous (as many mentioned before). Also I think a doll needs some kind of sleeping outfit. My dolls often have very pricey oppulent costumes that would crinkle. They would be completely destroyed after a night of cuddling... xD

    7. I sleep with my doll Tomoko every once in awhile when I feel super duper lonely and having trouble coping. If I can help it though I just have my dolls by my night stand or nearby while I listen to ASMR videos. I am sort of a still sleeper so I don't have to worry about tossing and turning.

    8. If I had a less fragile doll I would probably try sleeping with it in my bed tbh. I barely move in my sleep but since my only doll right now has elf ear mods I still would not want to risk it.

    9. No, there is hardly enough room as it is. I have a dog, cat and husband and we’re all jostling for space.

    10. Hi,
I don't think its strange at all :)
I do keep mine close though, cupboard next to my bed.
I probably would if I didn't have my 4 year old climbing into bed at night..lol

    11. I’m still new to the hobby. I had to travel to another city, and decided to take the doll with me. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed having her with me. I held her on my lap for most of the trip. Her wig kept slipping off, I didn’t know how to fix it at the time. I just loved handling her and cradling her in my arms.

I like having them nearby when I sleep. Their presence is comforting.

    12. I don't think it's weird at all - I wouldn't do it myself because I know that they would get damaged pretty quickly if I did, but I have had then just lie down next to me while I've been awake before and that was nice and comforting.

    13. I used to back in the day, but I haven’t in some time now that I have a husband. My Pipos Baha used to sleep on my extra side of the bed’s pillow when I first got her. :) I think it would be much harder now because of how much we move around while we sleep. :XD:

    14. I toss and turn quite a lot throughout the night, so the idea of having my doll in bed with me has never crossed my mind! My doll doesn't even stay near the bed at night, because I have an overactive imagination and get spooked easily when I'm half-asleep :frownyblush:

    15. I wouldn't even try because I tend to move quite a bit when I sleep so I would be too afraid to smash it or throw it out of the bed to the floor. But sometimes when I'm in my bed with the computer or wiith my phone, just resting, specially if I'm stressed or anxious, I may have one of them right by my side. Even if I'm not directly touching them, they comfort me that way ^w^

    16. I have a fairly large bed, so every once in a while my pukifee will stay over. But she'll be in a little box up against the wall where I dont accidentally knock her out of bed or something like that. I just sometime like to fix her hair or change her clothes or try some poses before bedtime in stead of being on my phone, and I don't always get up to put her away.

    17. Anything is normal as long as it does not harm anyone. We love our dolls and they are precious to us (in all senses). So why not?
If I lived alone and I was lonely, I would do the same for sure. But now I don't have enough space around my bed, also I don't want to accidentally damage the dolls, so they are just kept nearby.

    18. That's actually really cute! I don't think it's weird at all. It's the same a plush, in my opinion. I'd personally never do it because I'm already scared as is that I'll break one of my dolls. I'd be devastated if I woke up one morning to find my doll missing fingers. If you can avoid that, which it sounds like your doll is a far enough distance, then go for it! It's just another way to bond.

    19. I could probably do it considering I tend to sleep very dead-like, but I’d still have severe paranoia over accidentally breaking/crushing the doll. Maybe with a big soft-bodied vinyl like DD or Obitsu

    20. I'm so afraid of crushing him! But luckily, my bed is right by the window so I sometimes sit him on the sill at night. He doesn't have a sleeping head so I guess that just means he guards me while I sleep. Nothing wrong with that...

    21. Nope, I prefer sleeping with warm, soft, affectionate things. ;)

      • x 1
    22. I dont think its weird at all exvept i would be afraid of breaking them

    23. I have an entertainment center in my bedroom but instead of a TV I have my BJD diorama there. I don’t sleep with them in my bed (I still prefer stuffed animals) but I do enjoy a nice cuddle from them now and again. I’ll carry a doll around in my arm like a baby, sit one in my lap while I study, or give them a peck on the head when they’re looking extra cute lol.

    24. It's not weird at all! I'd love to sleep with my doll, but like many others here I'm an active sleeper and I'd be terrified of squashing her, or breaking something, or scratching the faceup. So I just settle for cuddling her in bed for a while and placing her in her chair next to my bed when I'm going to sleep. It's not ideal for me cos I could cuddle her all day long, but I can't risk damaging her:atremblin

    25. Mine sits on my nightstand while I sleep. It helps me to relax and fall asleep with the doll nearby. I also sleep with a soft blanket.

    26. Occasionally my husband will sleep on the sofa if he has to get up for an early shift the next day. On those nights I'll have my doll sleep in our bed, but it's pretty huge and even if I was thrashing around in some vivid nightmare, there's no chance of my touching her. I sleep very restlessly and usually wake up 2-4 times a night, and I like reaching out to touch her when I wake her.

    27. That's a cute idea. I roll around in my sleep and have a cat who loves to knock things over when he's bored, though, so this is probably not a good idea for me. *_*

    28. I’ve never considered sleeping with my dolls. Not even as a child I suppose? I loved plushies, so I took them to my bed. I’d rather display dolls on the bed table making them little bed and stuff.

    29. Though I move around quite a bit, I usually stick to one side of my bed pretty well. So I keep a pile of mini plush dolls on the other side for hugging or extra pillow-ing. A few times though I have felt bad for my BJD who usually lives on my couch. I don't want him to be the only doll left out! So I'll carefully place him beside the bed or among the other dolls every once and a while.

    30. I've recently acquired some tinies, but instead of sleeping with them, I put them on my nightstand. Its pretty nice to wake up and see a resin face looking at you...or are they guarding me while I sleep? ;)

      Ryu

    31. I would (after removing the wig for safety) if my husband allowed me to keep dolls in the bedroom, for sure.

    32. Since I now don't have a whole lot of space and I have an SD boy... he sleeps in the corner of my bed against the wall. So far, no accidents with him lol. I don't cuddle him or anything, but sometimes I put my hand on him and it weirdly helps me fall asleep.

    33. There is no more room in my bed! I have a husband and two shiba dogs taking up too much room already :mwahaha

Also I do my dolls faceup, make the wigs etc I would feel like I might ruin my hard efforts with my tossing around.

    34. I used to play blythes and I put them beside my bed
Not sure if that’s count as sleep with them
But for the bjds I don’t
I don’t wanna mess up with their face ups

    35. I made an interesting observation recently.
I took my new doll into bed for two days in a row.

He has no faceup or bodyblushing yet, so I dared to try it. I felt a bit lonely and depressed so I cuddled him, held him in my arms and slept in. He was cold before but he turned warm.

I think I woke up sometimes but not often. I checked if he was okay and he was.
When I woke up in the morning I realized that my subconciousness was aware of him. I wouldn't have hurt him in my sleep.
The fear of causing breakage is unreasonable.
The subconcious awareness will make this unlikely.

What it definitely also does is bonding.
I think I'm closer to him now. Today I feel like something is already missing (because I'm not having him next to me today).

    36. Coming back to this thread reminded me of how I had a scary hospital visit a couple years ago; having Taylor in bed with me tucked under one arm was the only thing that kept me from completely falling apart. I'm very sentimentally driven, though, so that's probably just a 'me' thing.

    37. I have slept with a doll in my bed but only because I was too lazy to put them back in the doll cabinet when I was done redressing/changing them  so not on purpose, just pure laziness. Thankfully I don't do it too often and no one has slipped off (yet). My cat who sleeps in my bed leaves them alone too.

    38. Basically this. Not on purpose but I have a queen bed to myself and am notorious for nesting with books and stuff scattered around. He was just another obstacle.

    39. No, I'm a boring person who keeps her dolls in a glass display case. I have oily skin, so I'm really, really careful about not letting my skin touch my dolls, because I don't want to damage or stain the resin, so sleeping with it in my bed is a no-go. I'm also a night-sweater, which would be even more disastrous for a doll, lol!

    40. I don't, but I don't think it's weird if you do. I sleep with a few plushies my fiancé gave me before he passed away not long ago. I don't know that I'll ever take them off the bed unless I'm changing linens or something. I'm afraid of messing up a doll as I toss and turn, so I'm not sure I'd have one in my bed.

    41. I don't think it's weird. I know I wouldn't do it just simply for the fact that my partner and I work different shifts, they work first shift and I work second shift, so there's a chance of my boy might roll off the bed when my partner gets up in the morning. Also, I have two cats, one chonky boy and one curious boy. I'm afraid my chonky cat might push my doll off the bed since he likes to clear stuff out of his way when he lays down. While my curious cat likes to drag my doll around on the bed by his wig as it is now when I'm changing outfits or wigs with the doll, I'm pretty sure he would drag Leaph off of the bed by his wig when I'm sleeping.

    42. Not weird at all! I don't sleep with my dolls because I'm worried about squishing them, but I do love to cuddle them while I'm just hanging out and drawing or playing games. My 1/3 girls have lots of cozy loungewear for this exact reason. My favorite article of clothing for them is this giant fluffy white coat that I got secondhand, and it makes them so soft and perfect for hugs.

    43. Nope not weird! I don't sleep with my doll in my bed due to the abundance of pillows on it but they sit right next to me on my shelfs.

    44. I don't think it's weird. I've done it myself a couple times although it had more to do with the fact that the doll was already sitting on my bed and I was just too lazy to move them somewhere else before going to sleep, lol. I don't move around in my sleep much at all, and I realized that I particularly stay still when my subconscious knows that a fragile doll is right next to me, so causing any damage isn't a concern to me.

    45. No. But whoever I have dusted off and customized that night while I watch a movie ends up on my night stand.

    46. I roll around a lot and my bed is small, so I’d be afraid of a doll ending up crushed or falling on the floor! I worry enough about my tiny dog, who likes to sleep curled up under the covers next to me. Haven’t squished her yet though lol.

      • x 1
    47. Not at all, I sleep with my dolls sometimes but I wrap them with something soft (so I don't damage their faceup) but the sleep only lasts for few hours. They are heavy and solid, which is not suitable for a long sleep.

    48. I don't think it's any weirder than sleeping with any other comfort item! However, I would never be able to sleep with my doll in my bed. I'd be too afraid of rolling over on top of and breaking them, not to mention my two dogs and husband who I also share my bed with.

    49. I don’t trust myself enough to have my dolls in bed. I know they would brake in no time! They all are in my bedroom though I love to look at them when I’m watching tv or just relaxing …

    50. I don't think it's strange, nor do I judge. I just know I couldn't do it, I cant even sleep the whole night with my little dog on the bed with me. I move around too much and move the blanket around too. So, I'm sure if I did that my doll will end up on the floor, or I'll get up and put them away in the middle of the night. Like with my dog, sometimes I'll let him sleep on the bed with me, but I eventually get restless with the lack of space I have and move him to his own bed at night.

    51. I fell asleep with Ilya in my arms while in the car the other day. His wig popped off and fell on the floor. I wouldn't put any of them in my bed though. I have a loft bed and I'm afraid of a fall. Or my giant self squashing and breaking them D:

    52. Similar to others, I’d probably be too afraid of damaging them to sleep with them, but I have slept with plushies and decorative pillows which is basically along the same lines, just less fragile, more squishy haha so yeah, if it makes makes someone happy/helps them sleep, I’d say go for it.

    53. I'd be worried about breaking them like a lot of other people here. I toss and turn and fling the sheets around like mad for some reason and I can see an accident easily happening. But I don't think it's weird, I'll probably just relegate any cuddling time to when I am fully awake and less likely to cause damage, especislly since I have a body pillow for night.

(Also if anyone cares 18" squishmallows make GREAT sleeping plushies and are perfectly pillow sized as well)

    54. I have a really big bed and lots of pillows, though I sleep on just two. So when I got my grail he sat on the pile of unused pillows for weeks on my bed and I slept next to him. I'm not a rough sleeper and it was comforting since he came to me at a fairly difficult time. So no, I don't think it's weird and people should do whatever brings them comfort and happiness ♡

    55. I started falling asleep cuddling my Living Dead Doll Vincent vaude. :frownyblush: Ashamed of how well i slept. I was OUT. A SOLID 9 hours.

    56. Sometimes ) Some of them are just too pretty, why can't I hug them for a while)))

    57. I have to go to the dentist in the morning for some gnarly pain in a molar, so I'm sleeping with my girl tonight. Dentists scare the heck out of me.

    58. I love that this thread has been going for yearrrrsss. Let's keep it rolling!

I don't sleep with my dolls. They are in their glass cabinet, which I unlock at nighttime, so when they come alive they are free to roam.

    59. I don't find it weird. I keep mine close to bed ^ ^
