I get rid of anything at all in my home that doesn't have an immediate or important use- living in a few hundred square feet is wonderful for not holding onto unnecessary stuff. I am ruthless when I cull things around the place, and boxes just cannot stay, flattened or otherwise. I can't stand knowing I have something tucked away only because it "might be useful later." If I know I won't need it in the next year, off it goes to recycle or trash. I'm not a minimalist but I have no tolerance for stuff piling up anywhere! I curate my space (whether it is out in the open or my cupboards) very very meticulously. *editing to add that living with semi-hoarder parents can do this to a person lol!
I keep doll boxes just in case I'd need to sell them for whatever reason. It helps show authenticity (duh lol). But for clothing and accessories, the packaging is thrown away immediately, I don't think it's that important compared to doll boxes but if it were something special and not just something I bought on etsy, then I might keep the packaging
I keep everything in its original packaging (unless it was like, wrapped and taped in tissue that had to be ripped, or something) when I'm not using it, including clothes and wigs. The inner doll boxes is where the dolls hang out normally so I obviously keep those, but I do also keep almost all of the shipping boxes. I threw away a box for a doll once and had a huge problem finding a box to ship her in when I sold her. Had to spend like $15-20 just on a box - what a waste of money/cardboard! So now I keep and re-use all boxes and packaging - they're actually stored in the same big box as my doll stuff. Aside from the two boxes for my two dolls that I haven't sold (which are gathering dust behind my bookshelf - but I'm keeping them in case we need to move), I've found myself reusing boxes and packaging over and over - for storage, for shipping dolls to and from face-up and wig artists, etc. If I've re-used the box 2-3 times and it's covered in numerous shipping labels/damage from postal system I do throw it away, because I feel like its lived its useful life.
If you're referring to product packaging, yes! I usually purchase from "branded" BJD shops, so keeping the original packaging would serve as a proof of authencity. For cardboard boxes, I would keep them for when I need to pack things up for sales. I stack them up within one another in order to save space.
I don't have the room for keeping boxes and I only have larger dolls. I do keep the paperwork and accessories together.
I still have the original boxes of my Luts and Soom doll. I keep X-mas deco in them. My Spiritdoll's 'box' was a bag and it was put inside a regular but very thick corrugated cardboard box. That is the best doll bag I have ever had or seen and it has given me a lot of funny moments, since it is black and looks like the carrier bag of a shotgun. I usually do not keep the original package of doll accessories. The exception is Spiritdoll again, the full set of my doll came in a nice branded box. I use that for keeping doll-related keepsakes.
I've kept the inner box for my first doll partly out of sentiment, partly in case I need to ever store him safely for some reason(moving, etc.). I've also hung onto the packaging of the few accessories I have at the moment bc its an easy way to store them and also remember what I actually have. I'll probably hang on to any future doll boxes for a bit as well in case I decide to sell or something, at least until I start running out of storage space or the piles of boxes starts making me anxious, lol. As for buying dolls second-hand...the company box would be better to have than not but I don't think it'd be a dealbreaker for me if it's a doll I really want.
I save their boxes because I'm always moving since I don't like to stay in the same place for too long. I've moved 3 times in the past 2 years and the boxes have been my life saviors.
I am a box hoarder! I keep all the boxes for my dolls and other figures. But you're correct that it is a huge space saver to get rid of them. Personally, I wouldn't buy a doll without its original box, but I know plenty of people aren't as picky. Clothes and accessories I would say are fine to toss the packaging on, unless it's some kind of special or limited outfit.
I only save the boxes that my dolls come in since it saves a lot of time down the road when moving/needing to pack them away. For accessories and other things like that I just keep those in my organized space for them and find that a lot of the packaging for them is bulky and doesn't fix in the space I have.
Yes, I save my doll boxes, because it.s a storage place for them if needed. I usually display my dolls out of the boxes, but if i need to move them or store them for some reason they are going into the boxes. The boxes are also one proof of authenticity, like people here mentioned, but I am not planning to sell my current dolls, so I purely keep them for storage.
I save both the doll boxes and the outer boxes. I wouldn't buy collector's items without the original boxes myself, so I try to keep everything. I do keep some clothing packages too, just in case I want to sell some stuff. So far space hasn't been an issue for me, the empty boxes just sit on the top of my shelves.
For BJD's, I also would rather buy from sellers who did keep the original box. It just adds that extra touch and makes things a little nicer (also protects them better). Plus, I do like the boxes. They are usually so beautifully decorated, and I keep my dolls in my closet for now (for lack of space), so I do actually need them. When it's clothes and accessories, I don't care about the boxes, unless they're particularly useful for storage.
For my dolls, I save the original box but not the shipping box. I figure if I ever decide to sell them, or if I move, it's the best way to store/ship them.
I keep the box from the store but not the box it was mailed in. If that makes sense. I have a shelf in my closet to save them. Plus I don't have many dolls to begin with so saving the boxes doesn't take up too much space.
I keep the original box the doll came in since I see it as part of the collection aspect, but not the box it was shipped in. I do use them to store that particular doll's wardrobe, accessories, and such. Any clothes or accessories that come in specific packaging I usually keep too for convenience and storage (if it's not too bulky). I dont, however, keep the boxes clothes and accessories ship in. I like to keep everything as original as possible for the sake of collecting! It also comes in handy for when I move or sell a doll. That being said, it doesn't bother me if I buy a doll secondhand without its original box. It would be a plus, but as long as the doll is secure and safely packaged then it's alright if I don't have the original box!
I do keep all the official boxes. With second hand stuff if they don’t come in original boxes I usually just keep the packaging. But if the box is an odd shape or seems like a good quality box I keep it just in case if I sell things.
I kept all the boxes that the dolls came with. But I don't keep any accessories boxes. I stored all the accessories in see through containers.
As most of my doll related items are custom made, there are rarely a box to save. But as for the dolls, I do save them for relocation/potential resales
I save the original boxes of all dolls and doll heads. I might keep boxes of parts if they are exceptionally high end (for example my LLT jointed hands came in a real pretty metal box so I saved it). I kept eye boxes too. But I don't usually keep original packaging for outfits or shoes. I have a few old iple fullset outfits where I kept the box but I think that's all I have for outfits. I definitely don't have the nerve to start storing, say, the sticker-labeled plastic bags many doll outfits come in. I do consider lacking a box to devalue a doll a bit, after all to me they are collector items and the box is technically a part of the collectible item, but lacking a box absolutely doesn't hinder me from buying the doll as long as the papers are still there. For other items such as clothes I don't care at all: I do ask if the seller has the original box because if they happen to have it' I'll gladly have it, but if no, then it's not a big deal. I only find it a bit offputting sometimes when sellers do have the original box of a full doll or body but deny to ship in it because they want to save on shipping or fear to ship strung - the shipping and insurance is paid by the buyer in most cases anyway, so I'd let the buyer decide. When I send dolls off, sometimes I get left with the box if the new owner doesn't want it. Since I so far have the space to store the boxes (and I try not to get so excessive with my collecting that I run out of space for the boxes in our basement), I always keep a couple spare boxes so that if I ever sell a doll that came to me without its box, the buyer can still have the doll shipped strung in a safe shipper if that's what they prefer.
Keeping boxes are a must for me if the doll originally came with it. It feels like it is a part of the identity of the doll and I'll collapse them if I'm running out of space. Packaging materials are usually kept, although this depends on the material of the doll. If it's resin, I keep the packaging the way it was received. I don't keep accessory boxes unless it's really nice or useful since I feel that most accessory packaging is superfluous and takes far too much space in terms of item/packaging ratio.
I definitely save my doll boxes and keep all the things that come with the doll in the box including default eyes if I won’t use them, extras parts, any full set items, and all paperwork. I think the only reason I would get rid of one would be if it as damaged. I feel like the box is part of the doll. I prefer to buy a second hand doll in the original box but it would not stop me from buying one as long as there is original papers or some proof of authenticity. If you don’t have a lot of space to store the boxes make sure you keep good records to match the doll with the paperwork for resale. Any packaging besides doll boxes are not important to me but I do have quite a few of the little plastic boxes that eyes or tiny shoes come in even though I don’t have plans to sell any of those items.
I keep the doll boxes and use them as storage for doll items. I don’t have many dolls and all the boxes i do have take up just a small section under my bed. I kept some accessory boxes for storage but the rest I recycled. I did also keep an outfit box I got second hand since I thought it looked nice.
I keep all the boxes my dolls come in, which I probably shouldn't do because they take up so much space in my tiny apartment haha. Because I move somewhat frequently, though, I always wanna have them for safe storage and also just because I like having the original boxes.
I do keep the doll boxes, though i don't have much space in the house. It's mostly for my own peace of mind just in case i need it to store the doll away or sell it. It's unlikely, but at least the option is still there.
I even save the shipping box. If one day I must sell one doll (thing that I don’t want to do XD), it’s like more easy to show that the doll is legit. But then I think… my flat is sooo small and I don’t have more space for the boxes… For now I’ll keep them but I don’t know how much will last.
I've saved all of my doll boxes, but I don't save accessory boxes. For some outfits I save the original wrapping. I have plenty of space under my bed for all of them.. for now
So far I have kept all of the boxes from my dolls that they came in but not the shipper box. I do also keep most of the packaging from accessories and outfits to store them in when not in use.
I always keep the doll box, in case I need to sell the doll or in some cases I've stored clothes in them because I didn't have a place to store them at the time. Sometimes I keep the packaging accessories came in, but normally I eventually throw them away. I have started keeping the packaging for wigs now, though. I didn't use to, but it makes it so much easier to keep the wig neat.
Depends on the box! Flimsy plastic boxes tend to get tossed and/or recycled the moment they're empty. I keep the sturdier cardboard boxes for storing dolls in, since I have no place to display any right now, and I've gotten pretty good at putting multiple dolls in one box so everyone's protected. Accessory packaging tends to get tossed unless it's a delicate item, or something with lots of fiddly parts that I'll lose otherwise, though those tend to get put into ziploc bags for the sake of keeping everything together.
I save the boxe of the dolls and cushions because i move a lot. I don’t keep the shipping box (outer box) because back when i lived with my mother, she’d refuse to keep them. Kind of regretting now that I might get rid of a few bigger ones.
I don’t usually keep boxes as I collect 1/3 dolls (DDs) which have bigger boxes that take up a lot of space. I’m also ok with purchasing dolls without the original box included as long as if the doll is in good condition and clean.
I've kept all mine, because with the exception of one doll, I eventually change my mind and sell them down the road. They do take up an awful lot of space, though.
I save the original boxes of all dolls and doll heads, in case I need to sell the doll. But sometimes It s really difficult to find storage place, my flat is not so big and I don’t have more space for the boxes. They take up a lot of space
I have kept the original boxes (or bags) for my BJDs. Not the shipping boxes, but the boxes that the dolls themselves were stored. Honestly, it started because my first one came with a really nice leatherette bag that I realised I could use if I wanted to travel with it, and from there it just made sense to keep the boxes for similar reason - transport. I have to echo the thoughts of it being hard to find storage space for them all though.
I save just my dorrie's inner box....as long as they still fit in the upper cabinet of my room . To save space, I nest my MSD and YoSD dorrie boxes inside the bigger ones that house my SD's.
I save all of my BJD boxes when I can. Between collecting anime figures, BJD, other dolls etc it's getting pretty tough though. I don't ever really save packaging or boxes from anything other than the doll itself for those reasons.
Doll boxes? Yes, absolutely. Gives me a place to store them when I'm not playing with them, since I don't have room to display them all. Accessories? No, because the only box mine come in is the mailing box, and that's not nearly as nice as doll boxes.
I used to, but after the move I found that I just didn't have the space to save them all. So far I've managed to keep my Real Puki/Pukipuki/Pukifee/Realfee/Littlefee boxes, and parted with the rest :sadfacedpanda:
I store my dolls in their boxes (not all of them have their own, as most are second hand babies, so they bunk) and for accessories it depends. If they have their own fancy box, like some shoes, I just store some extra pairs in there as well and stack them within a bigger storage box. If it's just a mailing box, I keep it and use it for other storage or to ship out anything I've sold. In any case, I try not to throw any packaging out because I know I'll use it again.
Clothes have always come in bubbled or plastic wrapping, so I don't feel like I have to save them, although I'll often save the plastic ones if it's a packet I can slip the clothes back into easily for the sake of storage. I've only got one doll but I've saved her box because I feel like if I ever wanted to sell her it would help with legitimacy? I'm not sure if that's true or not LOL but it doesn't feel right to me personally to get rid of the box
My space is limited too. I keep doll boxes but don’t keep clothing or accessory boxes. Though I have to admit that the boxes are currently in off site storage. A lack of doll box isn’t a dealbreaker for me and it saves on shipping. my Elfdoll K arrived in an Elfdoll Mir box, which was a surprise at the time but still makes me smile.
I keep all the actual doll boxes, but I don't keep any shippers or clothing/accessory boxes. The only accessory box I've kept is the one for my big FL demon wings, but I should probably get rid of it because I never take his wings off, lol. I HAVE been tempted to trash some of them though....they take up half the attic!
I keep doll boxes, but not shipping boxes (though now I'm trying to watch for ones that could fit my Resinsoul gal I want to sell), nor do I keep any packaging for clothes and accessories. With the doll boxes, ones that don't have foam padding get used for clothes storage. I keep sewing and knitting things, my dolls are constantly outgrowing whatever clothing storage solutions I have! I need whatever help I can get there! Ones that do have foam I occasionally put eyes and things in, but mostly they just stick around as mementos of getting the doll and in case I need to transport them all.
I keep the boxes for the actual dolls themselves, since it doubles as storage if I ever need to move them to another location or just make space. They do take up a lot of space, but I don't intend to ever own more than 5-ish dolls at the most, so hopefully it stays manageable. As for doll clothes, they usually come in bags, and I do keep those if they're resealable. If they're not, I throw out the bag and put the clothing/accessory in a ziplock. Protects from dust and dye transfer. Then those bags all go in a drawer.
I have a bunch of boxes, for dolls and figures, that I am thinking of decluttering. They were helpful last time I moved and of course they're good to have for mailing if you are selling but... they are taking up so much space...! And I don't think I will be selling any of the 6 I have left, so I shouldn't need their boxes. It's just hard to let them go "just in case".
I do save all the company boxes the dolls come in but not the outer shipping box. But I am running out of space having all those doll boxes I have the boxes as a just incase/what if I move/sell kind of deal As for clothes, if it comes in those plastic bags I might save that but everything else gets tossed
i save doll boxes since it's just easier to take them around in them if i need to. anything else not really
I don't have many dolls and they're always on display. So I save their boxes, and if they have a foam insert I'll throw it out so I can nest boxes inside each other. I'll only use them for moving and storage anyway. Boxes for other things, it depends on what it is. I tend to buy expensive glass and resin eyes, so I always save eye containers. Wigs I will keep in whatever storage they came in. If clothes and shoes come in plastic bags, I ditch them and use my own storage system of these Ikea storage bags and soft tubs, and doll shoes get their own ventilated box. Lately I've been buying clothes that come in their own storage boxes, and they're usually outfits that are elaborate, complicated and/or easy to crush out of shape, so I keep them in their boxes. Basically, if something comes in a company/branded box, I tend to keep it if the storage system makes sense.
Currently I have saved most of my company doll boxes but not the shippers. Ventilated storage in a humid climate is a must, so I don’t keep anything in plastic bags or too tightly enclosed. I like thin, acid-free tissue paper to wrap things in or put between things. Sometimes it just comes down to not crowding my stuff too much and that way it doesn’t get crushed or mussed.
Yes. To the point where I’m considering breaking them down to save on space lol. I’ve been saving boxes for figures and bjds for a Long Time now, but thankfully I’ve stopped saving the wrappers from accessories and clothes. The big boxes make sense to me, people usually prefer to buy secondhand items with original packaging so I like to keep them for resale if I ever want to part with a doll.
I collect dolls not boxes, though I have kept some. I like to be able to walk into my doll room, see my dolls and have the ability to take the one/s I want to "play with" off the shelves. Clothing, shoes, spare parts and wigs are stored in clear plastic containers so I can find things easily. Instant gratification is a must at my age, I have no time to waste opening or looking through boxes!
Yep! I always save my doll packaging and I save clothes and other packaging most the time (especially if it is from a nice/expensive company)
I happen to know, in 3-5 years, I will be moving, so I need all the doll boxes I can muster for the move. I’ve also been saving boxes, because I’m a revolving door collector, and I sell fairly regularly.
