Do you put underwear before clothes on your doll?

If they wear a dress, yes. For trousers, especially if the material is dark, they get to wear stockings to prevent staining.

 

My doll still has her default lingerie set on. It's white, so it won't stain her.

I don't want her to turn black/blue/whatever color of her clothes, so that's why I keep it on. D:

 

I was always a "they don't need it" person. Last week, however, I took my girl to visit the ladies in an assisted living home. She had on a long historical type gown. Pretty soon the 85 year old ladies were lifting up her skirt to see how her joints work. They were a bit shocked by her anatomically correct parts. Now I am sewing her some underwear for when she goes visiting.

 

I only put underwear on dolls if they need it--

If they are wearing a skirt or something where they might be showing something they shouldn't!

Or if there's a risk of staining. Or if there's enough room for it... (some pants are too tight for underwear).

Otherwise, it's not as if they are human and need the underwear to feel comfortable or to keep their clothing clean! Underwear is mostly for being part of a complete outfit or for protection from staining, or for being "proper." OR for dressing up in lingerie or something sexy!

 

My mini boy has a pair of boxers, a pair of briefs, a thong, and a pair of bloomers.
On the other hand, my 70cm boy has no underwear.
I put underwear on my dolls for no reason other than I like underwear. As a plus, if my best friend tries to peek beneath my boy's skirts (he crossdresses) she doesn't go, "Eek, a penis!" -___-

 

Three of my boys wear underwear. I have seven.

I'm not quite sure why some do and some don't.... but I'll probably end up writing that in as a character point in the future. I'm sure plenty of people don't wear it in their real lives, right?

 

Most of my dolls wear underwear or will (my Shoyo's underwear is in the mail, on its way to me, lol). Hakkai is the only one of mine who doesn't >>; mostly because he didn't come wearing any, and I like his pants so much I haven't taken them off, so I wouldn't have a chance to put any on anyway, lol. He doesn't seem to mind. xD Kazuki wears underwear and a bra, though, especially since she wears a lot of skirts. Fai wears leggings as pants all the time, so of course he has underwear on under there. xD

 

Neither of my MSDs (both boy and girl) wear any underwear - but that's simply because I haven't gotten around to buying them or making them specific underwear. The girl not wearing underwear doesn't particularly affect me, but I am more motivated to get the boy pants, simply because it makes me feel more comfortable.

Both their outfits are in light colours, so I'm not too worried about staining. My girl wears shorts anyway, which are practically underwear, so I'm not too bothered about her.

For me, underwear isn't a neccessity, it's just another item of clothing to buy your doll - unless you really think that they need it.

 

My boys wear underwear. Mainly because they have low rise jeans and you could see their butts when they sat down.
If I had a girl, she'd probably wear panties, especially if in a skirt, but I'm not sure about a bra. It seems, since she'd be made of resin, she wouldn't need one, and it'd probably be a little bulky.

 

I put undies on my doll, but he came with them. I was planning on purchasing some even if he hadn't arrived with them on. It's part of his character that he is shy, so that is one reason. Another is that he has something to cover up with when I have him stripped down for a clothes fitting (my mom and I sew them). It just makes me feel better all around.

 

I dont have a girl doll (yet) but I do put undies on my boy... it just feel right to do so >_>

 

I don't have underwear for my Megi but when I get a girl an she will wear a skirt or a dress, I want to buy some lingerie for her.

 

Some of my dolls wear underwear, some don't. Sometimes the clothes are too tight for underwear and then they dolls don't wear, sometimes I just don't have the suitable underwear for a certain outfit.

 

My girl, I put underwear on her. That's also cuz she mostly wears dresses. But if I had the briefs I'd probably put my male in it, just for fun. Do I feel weird if I don't put them in it? Yeah, a little but that's cuz underwear is so much fun >< But yeah, definitely on dolls that wear skirts or dresses. ^_^

 

Yes, I do. My girl doll I don't really because it's hard to get pants on, if she's wearing a skirt or dress I usually put panties on.

My boy dolls all wear underwear. Mostly so I don't pull down their pants and see BAM!PENORZ and their junk doesn't stain.

 

Rika only wears skirts and dresses, so yes, she wears panties It would just feel wrong to have her go commando, lol.

 

I have all boy dolls and they all wear white underwear and white socks! I just dont want them staining, or to catch a cold, LOL!

 

My doll came with underwear so she is wearing that but if I bought a doll that didn't have underwear I would buy some because I like the realism in them wearing under wear.

 

Oh I always thought that underwear was pointless but now I get it :0 My boy gets stains on his butt from his pants, so I'll try sewing him some boxers now.

 

Right now, no I don't. At the moment the type of dolls I have just wouldn't be able to fit underwear under their clothes. I could use some panties for skirts though.

When I someday get a mnf, she will probably wear underwear with whatever clothes will fit.

Also, boxers or panties with a tank top can be cute pajamas!

Edit: also, some girls seem to need bras. Depending on the detail in the chest area, sometimes their shirts get a bit see-through! O.o

 

It really, really bothers my ten year old son when he sees that my male dolls are going "commando," even though they are fully clothed otherwise. It's "disgusting," in his words. So I had to make boxers for my guys.

He doesn't bother looking up the girls' skirts-- he's not at that point yet.

 

well i felt like it was necessary for my girl mainly because i do body blushing. i had spent almost two weeks fully completeing the blush on the whole body, but i wanted to pay particular attention to her more... private? areas. i had read that these areas rub a great deal when in shirts and pants and so as a way to protect my work i sewed together a bra and panties for her. i am very happy i did because as time has gone on i have become more and more attached to my girls and i think that i would feel terribly if she wasn't wearing panties.

 

After buying over-priced doll clothes, why would I pay even more for some panties no one will ever see, haha?XD But seriously, I wouldn't buy underwear separately, but if it comes with the outfit - great!

 

Well, I don't think my dolls need to wear bras, but I do think they need underwear.
Just because I like to pose my dollie in a lot of different poses, and I don't want her having an "Oops!" moment.

 

I actually want my doll to have a pair of panties at least especially if I were to take photos of her. I'm trying to think of a way to make a pair. Her dresses kind of flair out and I'd feel a little disturbed (and embarrassed) if I accidentally have pics of her bare butt.

My boys are fully blushed so they wear underwear to prevent rub-off every time I change their pants. xD

 

None of mine wear bras, but for the most part they all wear underwear. I do it to protect them from staining as well as protect their blushing.

 

I will once I get some here. My girl wears skirts and dresses. I don't need her flashing anyone. Plus, I don't want to risk her crotch turning blue from her jeans again!

 

depends, sometimes the pants will look bulky or I can't close the zip xD but if my girl is wearing a skirt, i try remember the undies, cuz people will look for sure!

 

Once I buy my twins I'll be making them some underwear. I wouldn't want them staining after spending all that time and money to get them. Plus even though they are a boy and girl they'll both end up wearing skirts at some point in time so I wouldn't want any opps moments in any photos I take >///<

With the amounts of time and energy put into an outfit I cannot see not having under clothing on.

 

I put underwear on all my dolls because my girls tend to like to wear short skirts and even though they are just dolls I think it seems more decent if they've got underwear on to keep them from 'flashing' whoever picks them up. I put underwear on my boys because I've had problems with their pants staining their 'boy bits' and I would rather not have to constantly clean them.

 

My mini moon will be wearing underwear when she wears dresses. I have to pair for her.

 

Like many others have said, I feel that it's sometimes necessary for decency's sake (such as under skirts/dresses...or, as in my boys' cases, to cover the back gap due to sitting in ill-fitting pants XD) if the doll will be handled often or in public. My larger girl technically goes without (though she sometimes wears full-coverage tights) even though she's always in a dress or skirt, but it doesn't bother me because she's rarely taken down from her seated pose on the shelf so no one notices.

 

Of course I'd give dolls underwear to prevent staining, and though I don't really care about dolls having bras or not, I think it just seems more appropriate to give them underwear =)

 

All my dolls have underwear cause well I think they need it. I don't think it matters if you don't do it though.

 

Underwear might actually be a great idea for Berwyn as most of her clothes are sized for Pukifee and Lati Yellow but RS tinies are much thinner, so her pants tend to sag. I have some fancy underwear for Ros, but she doesn't really wear it that often.

 

70+ dolls here and they all wear underwear. Even fullsets, that don't actually come with any, score a pair of pants before I dress them. Why? In the case of girls in skirts, it... just strikes me as the right thing to do! As for the boys in their jeans or trousers, to me it just makes them more... complete... for some reason. (I have a LOT of BJD underwear here...)

 

They wear underwear or tights, and undershirts when they can. But some clothes are too tight to get over that layer of underclothes.

Underclothes are helpful agianst stains, or if the shirt is a bit see-thru. And if they have a skirt on I feel like they are naked without panties. Gotta cover up.

 

Just the practical kind, stain-resistant bodysuits and socks, unless the clothing is really white/translucent. I like the bodysuits from Tata's Paradise that are made from a beige stocking-ish material, they're a little spendy but kind of worth it and they're slick so they make it easier to get clothes on. I have a few pairs of doll underwear like boxer shorts and even a set of briefs with a functional y-front and they're cute, but it's usually too much padding and too much trouble trying to get everything situated so there aren't weird lumps.

I can see why a doll in a skirt would need them, though. It's too much work and too "obvious" I guess to do the junk inspection on a doll in pants as opposed to just casually flipping the skirt up or turning the doll over.

 

In my experience, the first thing anyone looking at a small doll in a dress does is lift the skirt. Don't ask me why. But based on that, all of my girls get panties, bloomers or leggings with a skirt.

 

I want to get undies or tights on my ladies with skirts, but so far a few still need them. It just seems like they should have them.

 

I love this discussion! and @LadyMadrigal, you are so right!! My mother-inlaw was in town last weekend, and when I brought her my dolls that was the first things she did! And then of course she wouldn't stop talking about how they needed underpants, and "oh my gosh - they have boy/girl parts." The urge to rip them away from her was strong.

 

I mainly do it because i feel bad if my doll is just sitting naked while I make cloths. Sometimes I have to take them though. because if I don't then it might make it twice as difficult to get an outfit on that doesnt allow for much space.

 

Despite the difficulties I have fitting underwear under some of their clothes, I like my dolls to have it if possible. It just feels more complete that way, you know? I use leggings as underwear quite often, though (which helps avoid staining too). ^^ Plus I feel embarrassed for them if they're naked, lol.

 

depends... most of my boys go commando, one of my girls wears bloomers (not panties but technically underwear) ... if my girls are in skirts I'll put bloomers or panties on her, pants on the other hand, they can go command... I guess I use the same logic as for humans for my dollies.

 

Haha this thread cracks me up but it is oh so true! I really need to make my gal some panties because all she has to wear is a dress and some thigh high socks. It is bad enough with her "kicking" habit since she is new but with a short dress it is kinda scandalous! Must make panties!

 

I make them wear underwear entirely for aesthetic reasons.
...And on the off chance anyone feels the need to check their anatomy, I don't have to deal with their questions 'cause panties are in the way. I don't think the average person will have the nerve to undress a doll's panties for the sake of curiosity.

 

I've only got one doll who doesn't have many clothes, but as underwear and so far proven easier to make than full pants, he pretty much lives in light blue boxer shorts right now haha!

 

Sometimes underwear looks awkward or bulky under clothes so my doll never wears it. I wanted to, at first, since it was more realistic, but it just doesn't look as good.

In general, most of my dolls go commando under their clothes; there's not enough room on MSDs and smaller for the bulk of undergarments and the clothing over them. However, when my girls are in short skirts (shorter than knee length), I will generally give them panties, so they can be "decent" while seated. So I suppose I'd say my reasons are aesthetic: they don't look good in general, but they prevent indecent exposure when the skirts are short.

 

Mine do, just for realism. My boys wear boxers or briefs, and my girls wear panties and a bra (sometimes. My YoSD girl only wears panties, and one of my SD girls only wears a bra on occasion.) It just feels uncomfortable to me to not put underwear on them. XD

I haven't had any major staining that didn't come off with a good scrubbing, so I don't worry much about that. Weirdly enough, the worst staining I have ever had on a doll came from a pair of black Luts underwear!

 

Some have them and some don't. I don't like visible underwear lines so it all depends on the costume. My boys and girls in jeans (that aren't skin tight) have them. I have a boy with white trousers and they just don't work for that so he's commando right now. Anyone in a dress/skirt has them for modesty purposes.

 

Only my MSD girl has underwear, mostly because her nipples are so pointy that you can see them with the shirt on...

 

Mine wear undies when they're wearing a skirt, in case of wardrobe malfunctions that lead to exposed bottoms.

When they're wearing trousers, generally they don't. Dolls don't have sensitive bits that need protecting from their garments, so I don't bother with a layer underneath their clothes (and they accompanying extra bulk and panty lines) if it definitely isn't going to show.

 

Since the source of the fabric is unknown most of the time, I try to use underwear on any doll wearing dark clothes next to their body, but as Tonboko says, sometimes there isn't room, so in that case, I do not keep the outfit on for long periods of time. I guess for me, the dolls are a large investment; I do want to have fun, but I don't want to see them stained.

 

I like the idea of my dolls wearing underwear but it always gets caught in their joints, so none of them do.
