Do you have an unintentional type?

Aug 18, 2021

    1. I tend to go for goth/emo bjds and animal bjds, not sure why but they are more fun for me

    2. Hm.

My type seems to be within the 1/6 scale range, and I'm not sure how that happened exactly, but it is now my preferred scaling. If I'm not going for anthro BJDs, I prefer what is classed as 'mature tinies'. I just find them really easy to deal with. Style wise, I tend towards emo/goth/punk looks for my dolls. There's like... maybe two exceptions to this. I didn't realize I had fallen into that pattern of styling till I looked over there.

Huh, fun to think how you can just do these things without thinking.

    3. I didn’t notice until my friend pointed it out but I tend to gravitate towards dolls with strong or interesting noses. I also tend to style my dolls with dark hair and dark makeup, only four of my dolls have light hair.

    4. I looooove noses

    5. Boys with short, black/brown hair. Some of my boys began as blondies, but I couldn't bound with them. It only changed after I switch their wigs for darker colors.

    6. Besides only collecting girl dolls I definitely have a type for brown hair ladies or natural shades in general. Oh and cat girls, duh :kitty1

    7. Strong features, prominent noses, large eyes, elf ears, fantasy sculpts, colourful wigs, 1/3 dolls and tiny dolls.

    8. I’ve intentionally worked to select a variety of sculpts - realistic, anime, old school, elf, white to tan skin colors, different eyes and wigs. My unintentional type? Excluding a couple of smiling sculpts, my crew looks concerned or world weary. What are they concerned about? Who knows. Probably a lack of shoes.

    9. I've recently realized that I seem to be drawn to dolls with half-closed/dreamy eyes.

    10. Big ears. Long elf ears, sheep ears, rabbit ears, even just cartoonishly big round human ears. For whatever reason I feel like it balances the face out visually somehow.

    11. Pouty mouths, almost my entire collection has pouty mouths. Basically every time I find myself really interested in a sculpt the mouth is pouty.

    12. I didn't realise I did until I saw this post.
I have a Maki and a F-38. Guess I'm fond of this particular eye shape (please excuse the amateur faceup on my F-38)

    13. Stylized sculpts. I noticed that most of my dolls don't really look completely realistic, even the ones that aren't blatantly anime styled. There's also the fact that the most common hair colors on my (non-fullset) doll crew are white and silver (though two of the white haired ones have multicolored hair), regardless of whether they're vinyl or resin, and the ones that don't have those colors are mostly pale haired. In my list there is (Now I'm including off-topic dolls here for completion's sake): Rand, Occelier, Ishmael, Lucifer, Tighnari, and Hansel. Heck, I even got a silver wig for a doll I have yet to customize as of this writing! Also as an addendum I noticed quite a few sculpts with elf ears (though none of them are elves or intended to be such), six including one I'm waiting on and a Dividing Line doll.

    14. Looks like parted lips is a common one in this thread... And I'm definitely also fond of it. I don't mind closed mouths either but I've definitely noticed that more often than not, if I take a second look at a doll, it inevitably has that "slight exhale" parted lips look (at any size, gender and age, lol).

Also darker skin. I think it just looks better - catches the light in more interesting ways and appears to do more justice to the sculpt of the doll. Pale dolls can be beautiful, especially with a face-up that's meant to compliment their skin tone, but I usually always fall in love with the darkest one available.

    15. - High cheek bones mixed with plump cheeks(cute, childlike but also carved in stone)
      - Pointed chins (not a heart-shaped face, just like the post-op M. Monroe chin)
      - Prominent cupid brow

All other features that unite them were intentional (thicker thighs, specific size, face proportions and degree of realism... to name a few :)

    16. I like big handsome boy dolls with long hair and big muscles or petite ladies with delicate features.

    17. Pretty guys on the mature side who look slightly annoyed is my weakness. Most of the boys in my collection look like they’d rather be anywhere else.

    18. Yes! That's my aesthetic also!

    19. 5 out of 8 dolls have blonde or white hair. I don’t know why but it just feels right. I try to get more colour variations but it‘s harder than expected :,)

    20. I recently noticed I really like pouty girls with resting bitch face... (My two big girls fit this description, and one of them was my grail doll for years till I got her.)

    21. Pouty dolls and either a bit more chubby build or a super skinny build, black/grey makeup and pale lip colors, frowning dolls as well in general

    22. I noticed that I tend to gravitate towards dolls that have one or more birthmarks/moles on their face. Looking at all of the dolls I currently have made me realize my unintentional type :blush

Also, I realized another one of my unintentional types… dolls that have red eyes. I feel like red eyes match most hair colors and I love how they look, so I’m always tempted to give a new doll red eyes. I have to remind myself to vary the eye colors and not pick red eyes each time :XD:
I’ve started to really like purple eyes on dolls lately too. Sadly, I don’t have any purple eyed dolls yet, but one day I’ll make it a reality!:thumbup

    23. I thought I didn't except for liking Volks dolls the most, but I recently saw someone here say SDCute Mina looks like a mini SDGr Creamy Mami, and both are my current grails... So it turns out I might have a type after all when it comes to faces, though I'm not sure how I'd describe it

    24. My main type is realism. My eye is drawn more to faces that look real rather than stylized. I like closed mouths more than open, and slightly narrower lips compared to overly full. I like my male dolls to look mature, and I find I'm drawn more to serious sculpts. I like my female dolls to have simple face ups, no makeup just the natural face.

    25. New My main preference is for older "primary" companies, japanese and korean, with which I discovered BJDs 20 years ago. I find that newer, western companies, among others, make very beautiful dolls, but I don't have a particular affinity for them. I enjoy looking at them online. :3nodding:

    26. New I've always liked male dolls with full lips and defined cheekbones. And somehow I ended up having 3 dolls with elven ears.

    27. New I have a big variety in my collection but my 'type' is dolls that are not skinny or bony OR super busty OR roided out with an 8 pack (really the rounder, softer-looking and bigger the better, but that's not exactly easy to find) - and who have a youthful cuteness and softness to their faces and features... I particularly love realistic sculpts, but I don't like mature/chiseled faces for my own collection. I have bought a few but resold them because I didn't feel a bond. I have quite a few child dolls and most of my adult dolls have more of a teenage look with soft cheeks.

There are a few artists whose faces I really connect with (Metis Doll, Joydoll, Dust of Dolls) and I have multiple dolls from all of them.

Also, I think at least 90% of my collection has a downturned mouth and serious to sad expression!

    28. New Mainly dolls with big eyes that stare into my soul.. They always look kinda melancholic

      • x 2
    29. New I tend to like male dolls that have either a hooked nose or high cheekbones or both. I always get whatever sculpt Fengxian Jiu makes, he is my favorite doll maker. For my girls, I tend to like sweet and innocent looking types, big eyes, pouty lips. I can't seem to quit buying impldoll girls!

    30. New While I have primarily cat or other “beast” dolls by choice, my sister pointed out that the main thing connecting my collection is that they all have good butts… It’s silly, because I don’t even have anyone with an outfit that revealing…

    31. New I always fall for the pouty lips & "puppy eyes" kinda stare, they're just too cute!

    32. New My thing are evil guys with resting b!tch faces :3

    33. New Sleeping and dreaming face sculpts are my weakness.

    34. New I tend to gravitate towards any sculpt with fangs, bonus if elf ears or a cat mouth! I also quite like girls with droopy/gloomy eyes like Laluna's XueXu and I've noticed I actually quite like expressive sculpts? I used to not care for them at all but ones with smiles can be really cute! I'd love to have an Asleep Eidolon DingDang someday.
