Do you have a Smart Doll? Pt.2

Sep 28, 2020

    1. Just stumbled upon this section that I didn't know existed on DoA..lol..of course I have no way of posting photos as mine are mostly on Insta and FB and the photos typically disappear or won't load at all..I'm lazy and don't want a separate account just to upload photos..lol.

Very cute I didn't think to try on DD heads on my Pear body the vinyl match doesn't look too bad. I ended up getting Live in Cocoa, but plan on snagging a cinnamon and tea at some point depending on what character I like better. I did put a Prowess head on mine and I love the look. Here is a link to her photo: Kitty Blue on Instagram: "New Girl has arrived! Introducing Leatrice Logan *Smart Doll Pear Live and Let Live Thanks @dannychoo Last photo is Prowess head on the pear body ❤️ Be sure to check out her box opening vid on my YouTube channel, link in bio #smartdoll #smartdollliveandletlive #smartdollpear #smartdollsofinstagram #dannychoo #smartdollprowesspear #smartdollcollector #culturejapan #fashiondoll #smartdollphotography"

    2. Congratulations! The head matches the body very well. She is special, i love that. :love

Live and let live is one of my grails, Future too. Your girl is very cute. :love

    3. Thank you.

I’m actually very tempted to get Future too. Pear size girls are very addictive :)

    4. Mainly I'm working on my realistic doll crew/ family/ world. Iplehouse and Rainman for the most, but there are some other non-human fantasy sculpts from other companies also.

It is a futuristic world so my next kind of characters will be cyber, androids and robotic pets. I've been trying to figure out how will my humanoid androids look and I started at first looking at Aimerai anime styled MSDs because I wanted the androids to look distinguishable from human characters. Still love the ones with shark teeth, but now I may have opened the door for Smart Dolls!

I had no idea that they had a fuller body type now, which is one of my favourite kinds of doll body types. And I've been thinking maybe I should make the android characters Smart Dolls! I have't checked out Smart Doll for so long, mainly because ages ago they did not really speak to me with the few face sculpts that all looked the same to me. But now so much have changed. New body type, different kinds of skin conditions even cleft lip. They also seem to work on some fantasy parts, and the male version it seems.

It is so tempting to get a pear shaped girl and one on the slimmer body. Making them both a cool android duo :)

    6. She's super cute, and I love where you posed her, what a gorgeous background!

I'm new here, and was just trying to figure out if Smart Dolls were off-topic dolls or not, since I didn't see them in the list, so I'm relieved to have stumbled on this thread to be sure! I just got my first Smart Doll, she arrived today, she's a Time and Tide doll, and I love that she has a scar. The semi-real line of dolls really resonates with me, just from an inclusiveness perspective. It's so nice to be able to honor my mom's experience as a childhood burn victim through a doll that kind of represents the journey she went through.

I'll post photos of her once I have some clothes, she arrived so fast, I was kinda shocked how quickly she got here (I literally ordered her last week!). Scrambling now to get her some clothes, lol.

Ultimately I'd love to get a guy Smartie the next time one releases, but I also love Not Everything To Everyone, and Limitless. One day, maybe!

    7. Congratulations!

My girls share the clothes musketeer style (one for all), while waiting for me to catch up sewing. ;)

    10. @Kaerra welcome to the thread. I also really love the simi-real dolls. I look forward to seeing your Tide and Time as have debated getting one myself.

@MrFjmg2003 I love your pear girls (but then I do love all pear girls), your curvy ladies always have such nice outfits and prefectly styled hair.

I just got my 3rd pear doll a couple days ago, I have a weakness for both pear body SmDs and the Transcendence faceup. So I had to grab a pear vampire. I am waiting for some stuff I ordered off etsy so I can actually dress all 3 of my pears at once vs them sitting around in under things. I plan to try and do some group pix of the vinyl army once they are dressed and styled.

    11. Thank you so much. The dress mas made to fit regular SD size girl. The dress is stretching to the max LOL

Thank you so much. YAY! Congrats on your third girl. Transcendent is very beautiful. I do LOVE the pear body too is my favorite.

I been bad and I haven’t bought anything specially made to fit the pear body. I’m just squishing my pear girl in any lose clothes made for my Dollfie dream dynamite girls LOL

I do hope someday to be able to afford some awesome clothes made for the pear type body.

This is my 3rd smart doll. Her name is Javi (Marvel). I named her after myself. She is kind of the female version of myself :p (At least how I imagine myself if I was a female)

    12. Thank you so much for the welcome, I will be sure to post photos of my Time and Tide girl once I've got her in more than just the sports bra set she came in. I love the details of her scar up close, so I'm super happy I chose this design as my first Smart Doll!

Congratulations on receiving your 3rd pear girl, but first pear vampire! I was just admiring the pear vampires on the Smart Doll site today, and will look forward to seeing your posts of her, along with the rest of the vinyl army! (That phrase is my indie band, lol.)

Also for anyone who might have been interested in Limitless, she's up again today! I'll have to wait to order her once I've got a doll budget again, but I'm so happy they went with her concept at all, plus how they did it is really neat.

I love your pear ladies, they have such a fun and vibrant style! The glasses are a favorite for me, as a long-time wearer of them myself, lol. Glad that some of the SD clothing managed to fit! I've run across a few sellers on Etsy who have pear-specific fashions for sale, so it seems like there should hopefully be more options for them the longer they're around.

    13. I am excited to have found this thread! I wanted to share my newest pear girl, Violet. She is Future Cinnamon Pear! Unfortunately, I don't have a ton of clothes that will fit her nicely. But that just means I need to get sewing! We are moving soon, so Violet is packed away. I miss her!

      • x 2
    14. Violet is gorgeous, and I love the pose you used, with her robe. She looks very relaxed, and I hope your move goes smoothly and fast, so you can unpack her ASAP!

Totally hear you on having to sew garments, I'm running into that especially with my SartoriaJ MSD, since her proportions are pretty unique compared to standard MSD sizing. But some standard SD13 sizes I've bought seem enormous on my Smart Doll's body, too, so it's really a crapshoot with what you buy that's pre-made (unless they're specifically made for Smart Dolls). :sigh So I'll probably get out the sewing machine for my Smartie as well.

FWIW, I have seen a lot more pear sizes through various sellers on Etsy, Mercari, and online in general, so that's a great thing!

    15. Violet is stunning. :love

    16. Thank you so much!!! She is so cuddly. I love dressing her in an oversized onesie and snuggling her!

Thank you so much!! That means a lot to me! I've been working on posing my girls better and relaxed was exactly what we were going for. <3

Ooo I just looked up SartoriaJ and I think I have a few dolls to add to my wishlist OMG! Gorgeous!! Who do you have from them?

The struggle is real with SD13 sizing being wonky sometimes!! I bought an SD13 sized shirt and it looks like a dress on my Smarties lol.

My family jokes with me about how I'm always sewing clothes for my dolls and not for myself haha! :whee:

    17. You absolutely nailed the vibe with the pose, I'd never have guessed you didn't have years of posing experience! (I absolutely don't have that at all. I'm only about 2 months into BJD ownership, and there's so much I'm still learning as I go along.)

My first purchased BJD was SartoriaJ's Ella, she's one of their standard MSD girls. I got lucky when another collector sold her to me and she came with nearly every feature I'd have gotten if I'd ordered her directly. SartoriaJ sizing is a little tricky to buy premade for, unless you're buying from the brand itself (and they make amazing clothes!) or from Iplehouse, or makers who specifically size clothes for those dolls. The proportions in some places--mainly waist and hips--are closer to SD13, but the dolls are so much shorter at the same time (45/47 cm for the ladies, or 50/51/52 cm for the guys). Like I suspect my Smartie and my Ella will be sharing some skirts, since a Smartie waist is 16 cm, and Ella's is 14.5cm, and their hips are within 1cm of each other, iirc. It's just that a mid-thigh length on a Smartie would probably be knee length or lower on Ella, lol.

You'd probably be sewing a lot for them, but I'm so glad you love the look of those dolls, too! And hey, if the dolls are more fun to sew for than yourself, more power to you on that! (Seriously, I'm with you there, I haven't touched a sewing machine in over a decade, and I'm going to dust mine off just for these dolls, lmao.)

(If you didn't see, SartoriaJ is teasing Dorothy and the Tin Man limited edition dolls and clothes on their IG! I'm tempted by the Dorothy outfit for my Ella, lol--sewing it myself wouldn't be at the top of my project list.)

    18. Thank you thank you thank you! You are so kind! Aw welcome!! This hobby is so much fun. I got my first SmartDoll in 2022 and my first resin BJD in 2023. Its so fun to create their personalities and make them clothes. Ella is gorgeous!! And sounds like you got a great deal on her too.

I love when clothes work for multiple sizes, even if they fit a bit differently on each doll. I make my girls share everything haha! I hope you enjoy diving back into sewing!!

Oh I am definitely going to have to check that out. The Wizard of Oz is such a great vibe to capture with dolls. So many options!! You should totally get your Ella the Dorothy outfit!!! Think of all the fun themed photoshoots you could have!!!

      • x 1
    19. Aw thank you so much, your enthusiasm is making me want to try out a lot more photo shoots and different poses! It really sounds so fun, and we've got a ton of blooming roses in the area right now, maybe I should try a rose photo shoot? It's definitely different thinking about storytelling visually instead of through words, but I'm really hoping to get better at that kind of storytelling.

I might have to pass on the Dorothy outfit because Smart Doll just dropped a bunch of gray skin components for sale an hour ago. I bought elf ears and the corset wearing bust with what would have been the Dorothy outfit budget. :sweat:whee: Honestly, I really want a gray Smartie, they're high on my Grail list. I'd have been so bummed if I'd missed out on the elf ears in particular. I've seen other people print them, but matching the exact gray shade is tough, and unfortunately, it kinda bugs me visually when the component colors don't match.

Very excited I got those gray components, yay!

Also, they listed 10 more dolls. 4 of them are pears, and the navy anime-style cyber doll sold out within a minute of being listed. That was wild to watch, lol.

      • x 1
    20. ABSOLUTELY DO A ROSE PHOTOSHOOT! That sounds gorgeous!!

I saw the "Grop" haha! I thought I wanted to get Gray Relentless with the silver Kintsugi. I wanted to name her Storm. But I decided to go with a Pasha Pasha instead. Maybe one day I'll grab a gray girl!

Who is your top pick for a gray girl?

      • x 2
    21. Okay, I'm going to try and get a rose photo shoot, you've inspired me, thank you! :dance

Oooh, Gray Relentless is gorgeous, I've seen images of her (and the blue version) on the Smart Doll website. Storm would be a badass name for a gray girl, yessss. I was reading a few twitter comments on the Smart Doll twitter alluding to "we know the grays are getting phased out," and I'm here like, "They are?! But I just got here, noooooo!" Lol.

My favorite sculpt is probably Transcendence, so gray Transcendence would be my gray Smart Doll grail. And of course vampires are huge again because of Baldur's Gate 3 and Astarion's character, lol. So lots of people are like, "Gimme vampire!" while I'm here like, "I just love her face, I can take her with or without fangs, thanks!" :XD:

But I also like Not Everything To Everyone's sculpt, Legion's (but ideally without freckles), and some other semi-real faces. Some of the new sculpts coming out would be amazing in gray, too, so I'm curious if there will be a few more grays before they phase them out (if they're phasing them out for real). Who would you want to pick up next, if you ever get the opportunity?

      • x 1
    22. Thank you!!! Maybe one day I will get a gray girl! I wish they had capacity to keep more colors running more often. But I definitely cannot complain about the variety and quality of the dolls we do get. I LOVE my girlies!

Transcendence is beautiful! I love her fangs. It takes me back to my Twilight obsession LOL! I know, not the best example of vampires.

If I hit an unlimited gold glitch, I would get my girl, Storm for sure. But I LOVE the pear girls too and want to add another to my collection, preferably in cocoa or tea! How about you? Who would you pick up next?

      • x 3
    23. I hope there's an unlimited gold glitch in the future so you can get Storm! That would be beyond epic! Fingers crossed something a little more pedestrian comes your way (unexpected refunds occasionally do happen!) that brings Storm home to you.

Oh Twilight, lol. Sparkly vampires seriously held half the hearts of the masses when that trend was at its peak.:XD:Then they went out of vogue, and now Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 has brought vamps back again, only this time with elf ears, lol. I'm curious if we see an uptick of vampiric elves in BJD offerings over this next year or not, that'll say a lot about how real that trend is worldwide.

As for my next Smartie, hmm... there are so many amazing options still available, part of my issue is choosing what to go for next when so many are absolutely stunning! Lol. I almost gave in and bought the tea pear Transcendence when she first released, because I thought the fangs stood out best on her skin tone than any other I've seen, and I think I also just love that she comes with black hair instead of gray like the other versions. But I'm outfitting 2 resin MSD (male and female) BJDs and my classic Smartie all at once, so I really can't add a fourth body type on top of that. :sweat For classic sizes, Limitless has caught my eye multiple times, as has Transcendence Cocoa, and some of the semi-real Prowess variants. But if they ever print black navy without the cyber lines, I'll be in trouble, lmao. Drow elven dolls? Yes please!

I did just manage to get two gray painted heads in the latest CJ Chaos drop, so fingers crossed one of my dream gray sculpts is in there. Transcendence semi real would be a dream come true, she's hands down my favorite. Mine shipped out near the end of the group, I think, since a lot of folks are already selling their Chaos extras, and I won't get my delivery till Monday. Definitely excited to see what I have!

I hope your move went well!

      • x 2
    24. OMG I bet you are right about the uptick in vampiric elves. They gotta give the people what we want!! Hahaha! YESSS Tea Transcendence is beautiful!!! You totally should add Limitless to your collection ASAP. She is gorgeous too! I don't think there are any Smartdolls I don't really love. Maybe Monday but even so, shes very cute.

I love the look of black navy. I like the idea of a "shadow" version of a character.

OOOOO fingers crossed for you!!! I hope your delivery made it to you and you got everything you wanted.

Thank you! I don't move till mid July but I am a crazy person and have to get everything packed way in advance haha!!

      • x 1
    25. Thank you, and it was hilarious what happened--I got two of the same completely finished head. So I'm trading one of them to a new friend along with a partial payment for a full gray body plus some components from her. We both win! But so funny to get two of the same exact head--Transcendence anime. Almost the grail gray, but not quite, lol. Still very happy to have a gray vamp at all.

Fingers crossed they might release black navy without the cyber lines, especially for your concept of a shadow character! Danny did ask people if there'd be interest in black navy without lines, and a ton of people immediately posted photos of drows, lmao. Guess that's a resounding yes from the fantasy crew! I could see myself going for a black navy without cyber potentially, but only if they released a Transcendence-style semi-real face, or maybe semi-real Prowess or Never Say Never in the same color.

Do you prefer anime faces or semi real faces, or love both? Or pears, how do you like what's different about their sculpts?

Also, you're smart to pack early, I always postponed doing ours every time from anxiety and overwhelm, and have regretted it every time, too. It's so much easier all around by doing it early and more methodically: to get things unpacked, to know where they are, to know they're more likely to make it safely upon arrival. Hopefully you'll be able to set up your BJDs and all their needs fairly quickly after you're moved in!

    31. Oh, the shoes are so much fun, I love the colors being so playful! Are those from DollOfAKind, or am I thinking of something else Converse-style that I remember seeing there, lol. But I love the greens and white you ran with for that outfit, so cute!

      • x 1
    32. I got them second hand with a purchase a few years ago here on DoA :)

Thank you. Honestly I have no idea. I got the shoes with a bjd I bought a few years ago here on DoA. They were part of some extra gifts the seller include with the doll :)

    33. That is a great deal! I love that you both win too!! I hope Danny continues to release all sorts of fantasy colors. I am picturing a mint green! I think I prefer anime since I have more anime heads but I definitely love semi-real too! I love that the pear body has cute tummy rolls and has a more "squishy" look overall! I can totally see myself getting more pears in the future. ha- future... because I have Future Pear! LOL

It turns out, we get to move in a bit early! I am so excited! I think my BJDs will be one of the first loads we take over to the house haha! Thank you for your well wishes!

Did you grab anything from any of the latest drops? I usually watch a YouTube channel called My Lady Disdain to keep up with SmartDoll news. I haven't been able to catch the last few episodes live since I've been busy!

I have 2 full SmD: Tea Athena and Cocoa Curiosity. Plus a Tea Monday head.

    36. I've got a SmartDoll!! Her name is Columbina (shes based off of the Genshin character) and I love her a lot. Is SMD bringing out male sculpts? I've been wanting to get my grubby lil mitts on one :3

      • x 2
    37. where did you get these, oh my GOODNESS
They're so cute, I kinda want some for my own (if they exist in classic SMD sizes)

    38. Hi again!!! :whee:
Here's the most recent teaser for the SmD guys :3nodding:

Progress is looking pretty good! I can't remember if Danny shared a tentative launch date, as I recall he doesn't usually like to do that.

    39. He doesn't, buuut OH LAWDY IM EXCITEDDD!! I can't wait for the boy ones to drop. I'm already thinking of putting Limitless on my birthday list (I try to plan in advance) so it looks like the boy sculpt'll be on my Christmas list <3

      • x 2
    40. Ehehe, I've also got my eye on him, he's looking quite gorgeous. He would make for a cute boyfriend for my DD Miku twins to fight over :evilplot: I hope we both get to bring one home!

      • x 1
    41. They're from Target, part of their Our Generation line, so they're actually meant for American Girl size, unfortunately. So it's not the best fit for her, either, but it works for now. This was the only thing I saw that wasn't too childlike (okay, well, they're cute dino jammies, but that's acceptable for an adult).

      • x 3
    42. He'd be a great bf for my girl Columbina!! (I dont have pics of her, as the wig and eyes I need for her arent here yet. For now, she's just an anime-styled me -- cause I've got red hair and brown eyes)

I just hope the male doll becomes a permanent addition, as I'd hate to be broke af and then by the time I have the money, he's sold out.

      • x 1
    43. Ahh...I could probably upcycle that into clothes for my SMD. It would just require some taking in, I imagine...but I'm also not awesome at sewing ;v;

    44. Because I do nothing in half measures (or reasonably, or sensibly, or in moderation...), I now have TWO Smart Dolls: Independence (Indy) in Cinnamon, and Reflection (Reggie) in Cocoa:

      Archetypes

Plus a Fairyland Minifee Chloe with an Angel Toast face-up, which I wanted because it's such a recognizable doll. And now that I have her - she's really cute, and I get why they're so popular.

    45. They look so cute together Mrs :love

    46. Thank you! Man, I love the dark brown vinyl. It's a stunning color. I put that pastel blue dress on the doll, and just as I suspected, the dress "pops" on that gorgeous brown body.

      • x 1
    47. Yes, it's such a perfect color, I bet it's even more beautiful in person :chibi:chibi The dress you picked for her is really pretty. And it's so cute to see the two of them hand in hand.
I've been delaying my SmD buy for hope of the anime pear girls... but the price is so good right now! as far as being unreasonable, you at least did so at a reasonable point in time imo :wiggle

      • x 1
    48. Ahhhh they're both so gorgeous! Love Reggie's dress, I'm a sucker for sky-blue anything.

    49. Smartdoll has never been less expensive. I paid way less for my doll than I thought I would have to!

      • x 2
    50. Where is everyone buying these Smarties at such a good price? I’ve always considered Smart Dolls to be my “grail brand”, but unfortunately the price range on the official website is way beyond what my doll budget can handle. I’d particularly love to buy some Pear shaped girls :chibi

      • x 2
    51. It's because of the exchange rate right now. The yen is weak, so even though the cost in yen is the same, the cost is cheaper if you convert it to a stronger currency like USD :kitty2

      • x 4
    52. Wow, thank you so much! Yeah, you weren’t kidding about the exchange rate — the cost of a Smart Doll is nearly cut in half if you import it from the Japanese site! My dream of owning a Smartie seems a lot more attainable now! :thumbup

      • x 3
    53. I would have purchased the Tokyo jeans even if the yen were stronger, but I am so glad I bought them. They fit the doll perfectly and snugly. Also, I bought a belt (which I normally avoid, because I am HULK SMASH with doll belts), and I was very pleasantly surprised to see it was real leather, and excellent quality, too.

    54. To turn back to the boys, am I the only one hoping we'll see a return of the anime sculpts in addition to semi-real? I want to get a boy, but all my vinyl dolls are very anime, so I wouldn't want him to not fit...

    55. I like both the anime types, and the semi-real so hoping for more of both with future boys. I might also be hoping for a someday pear style boy, but I'm odd.

    56. Oh, I would adore a pear style boy! I definitely think there's a market for it, judging by how popular chubby anime dolls have been getting.

    57. I have all of two Smart Doll boys, Haruka my first gen milk skin Eiji, and Hero my chaos kit in cinnamon skin with a Genesis V.1. head. Hero I have made to be a trans male and a geek. Another of my Smart Dolls I named Chaos I say is his sister, she's a chaos head on the left over girl body. The head looks to be a cinnamon version of Athena.

I technically have 3 SmDs I think of as male, as I count my first pear style as a boy, they are my try at making an isekai style character. Valdis is going to get a big sword and cool armor someday.
