I am naming my girls after flowers that are in season when they arrive. Was trying to get Katana who I was going to name Iris, but she's out of stock. So I am getting Moment by Friday and so have to give her, her own unique name. Katana I can get in late June.
Well as much as I love my only Smart Doll Kizuna in Tea before she was discontinued she will be my only 1. Hubby ordered 1 shirt for her from Smart Doll website and it had shipped only to find out Friday, this Tuesday that it was being returned to Japan by DHL. WHY???? Well DHL wanted a copy of my hubby's pass port or Driver's License before Customs would leave it/turn it over.....WTF!!!????? So after all this back and forth with DHL, hubby being the military vet that he is and don't have time for foolishness (mind you he said every 4 letter word known to man kind) He called his bank and put a stop to the money being taken out. 1 shirt $77.48, I shake my head and am sad cause now I don't think I will be able to order from Smart Doll, and could be blacklisted/banned 4 EVER from ordering. My crazy question to all that have ordered from Smart Doll and know about the Face Book SNAFU what the heck is DC so paranoid about over his product that he has to BAN people if they complain or worse get a refund for NOT getting a order?????
Smartdoll has become a mess, sadly... I don't think you'd get banned or anything if you go through customer support and request a refund that way. But if you cancel the payment or make a paypal claim, it goes on Culture Japan's "record" (risk being labeled as fraudulent). So it creates problems for the company, so yeah, I'd get if he'd wanna blacklist people for that reason... But I don't condone his behavior.
Well Smart Doll refunded my hubby's credit card, but he said he is done with them. Guess I will stick with Etsy from now on for Smart Doll clothes.
You could also look at Fabric Friends and Dolls. They're located in the USA and frequently get in shipments of Smart Doll stuff, so you can get the same goodies but shipped domestic. It's very odd to me that DHL did that, I've had several deliveries from them now and they never needed anything like that. I had to pay a customs fee one time (I think my package value was over some monetary threshold that meant I could be charged, I've literally never had to pay customs any other time for anything) but they usually just email me to ask if I want to waive signature on delivery and then boom, done. At least you got your money back, though, so that's good.
Yeah I have ordered from them in the past and never had any problems, but hubby wanted to order me something since he likes my doll. And we live in the same house, so I don't know why all of a sudden DHL would ask for such information. I guess they are using that instead of EMS? I will try Fabric Friends and Dolls next time.
#3 arrived today, but have to do some yard work first as rain is coming tomorrow so has to be done today. Photos hopefully tonight. Meet Poppy, my Cinnamon Smart Doll Moment. Poppy Makes it 3 by Marie, on Flickr All 3 girls. Poppy Makes it 3 by Marie, on Flickr
Every time I see one of these girls and occasional guys I get the need for one though unfortunately my wallet doesn't need the expense. May have to eventually check out fabric&friends, out of curiosity, what's their layaway like because I doubt I'd be able to snag one without finding a way to offset the cost.
Buying form Smart Doll is usually cheaper. If you buy through fabric and friends you will pay also a bit extra as they are trying to cover fees and such as well as make a profit although slight. You also will be paying shipping where as if you add some extras to reach 70000 yen you get free shipping and it is generally fast. I have found it easy to add a couple of items to my doll and then sell the items when they arrive. I get free shipping and I make back what I spent on those other items I really didn't need. If you are going to just get one you could also go second hand. While not allowed here Facebook has fan pages for Smart Doll and sales are there on dolls people just got and found they didn't click with. These people do allow layaway sometimes. Check out all your options before you make that plunge.
It's worth noting too that if something is in stock on the Smart Doll site, and you want it but Fabric Friends doesn't have it, they can order it for you. Although it's better to do this with dolls than clothes (unless you want a loooot of clothes). I asked if they could get the original version of Strength for me on layaway when she was marked as being up for discontinuation... and they did ^o^ (just 1 more payment on her yay) It did end up costing more, but I hadn't the money at the time to buy her straight from Smart Doll. So I don't really mind. It also doesn't help that I'm in the UK, so the doll ends up needing to be shipped twice o_o;
I've been obscenely tempted these last several weeks by tea skin Fortitude after bingeing a few Smart Doll related content creators on YouTube and a real life friend of mine purchasing one a few months ago. It doesn't help that I sold my tan Angel Philia, so I no longer have a tan skin anime girl in my collection, and Fortitude's freckles are just the cutest. I don't know if I'll be able to resist once my last layaway buyer finishes paying off the doll they've been chipping away at. I'm justifying it by saying that by buying one, at least I'll know in the future if I like them or not, and my collection just isn't complete without a tan vinyl girl in it.
I have two tea skin Smart Dolls and soon if the stars a line two cinnamon girls. The trick is staying the course.
Ah, lucky for me, I never seem to be able to stay the course in this hobby! I'm the reigning sovereign of making plans and scrapping them last second for an impulse.
I admit too that I'm prone to impulse, as long as I can afford it (hello cortex Smart Doll). Likewise I don't regret any, or at least haven't had any regrets so far. XD I'm trying to rein myself in so I can get the Smart Dolls I'm after - both tea girls, which I don't have any of yet. :3 Cross your fingers for me haha! (I was discussing FOMO in the doll hobby with my friend the other day, because I was being very pulled towards buying a limited doll instead of waiting on a different release that I wanted equally. In the end I decided to wait, but it's really difficult when there's only limited time to make a decision. I've definitely felt the time pressure of events, and I think the only way for me to avoid it is to ignore doll news for a while. Sorry for the tangent!) Tea Fortitude is an absolute sweetie of a doll, so @Thespian if you do get her, she's an excellent choice!
Hey everyone. I wanted to ask for some assistance. Is anyone able to show a comparison of (current not old) cocoa cortex and vinyl parts next to each other for comparison?
There are no new cortex parts. Cortex bodies are discontinued. My milk cortex body developed a break and when I inquired about a replacement I part they offered to sell me a vinyl body.
I meant comparing the cortex cocoa that was available to the vinyl color that should be the same, not old cocoa
I haven't posted pics in a while. There are some new animals hereabouts. A couple of kittys... And a blue bunny of the non ice cream treat variety.
Oh hey, a thread for one of the few doll brands I still collect. I got my first SMD last year in May, and after that I turned around and sold off most of my resin collection. I'm now at one MSD and a few Yo-SD in resin still, everyone else I have is now a Smart Doll, and once I finally get bodies for all 3 of my new heads I'll be up to 17 SMDs now. Oops, sorry not sorry. Here is a photo of my first 13 girls, tho it's just an IG link because I'm too lazy to hunt down IG's BB code.
Wow, everyone's SmDs look great! I like them a lot myself; they were kind of my "gateway doll" into this hobby, haha. As a kid I really liked the poster girl. (Mirai?)
I created this wall of flowers for my girls to use as a backdrop. All 3 tried it out. The wall still needs some more work done, but it has to be so it's easy to store away so I have to chose carefully my materials. Only reason I was able to do this was Michaels had a sale on flowers 50% off and I had sold a doll to a friend who I asked to get me so much of doll's cost in gift cards from Michaels. I always feel guilty when I have hubby pay for these kinds of things. SMD-164 by Marie, on Flickr

My smart doll infinity .. she was my first doll ever that opened the door for me for bjd world She wants to say Hi
Love the filter on the photo. Very cool. She's very pretty. How many Smart Dolls do you have? Any resin in house?
I do have infinity and singularity only doubting if I should or should not get super girl Resin I have a lot from Volks and Switch
@Black Pearl depending on where you are located, i'd be refreshing the smartdoll website as soon as its 6am for Tokyo. When Shiki went live it was 8pm my time, and when Tea Genesis 2 went live, it was 5pm my time... Genesis isnt even a major release like Super Girl. So all I can say is be super prepared! I'm rooting for you! I really hope you can get her she looks amazing!
Thank you so much for the advice, if she drop early morning japan local time I can keep an eye and refresh too .. yes she is very lovely
I just order a Tomorrow. Now the wait begins I’m super excited. Also my Panchita needed another smart doll friend. She was so sad since I sold my old cocoa Chitose over a year ago
Hey, Hey~ I realized that I never added my girlies to this thread. I love seeing everyone else's Smartgirls (and guys!) and I won't mention my jealousy towards never getting a Smartguy. Anyway, this is Nell~ She's a Tea Summer Bellamy ~ a Tea Courage And finally... Willow; a Tea Prowess
Your girls are so cute and I understand you. I regret never getting a boy smart doll too. I do have some muscle granado vindoll boys to make for it LOL I hope you share more of your awesome girls
Thank you! I just have to admire everyone else's Smartboys~ I didn't even think about Granado having vinyl dolls! I have a Dollfie Dream boy on the way, but I do hope that Danny proceeds with more boys. I actually did notice that he took ALL of the boys off of the main site.
So uh speaking of SmD guys, I was fooling around with a couple older photos in an editing app and thought these looked kinda nice. One day I'll even finish his jacket so he can finally go outside. Really hoping the new default Slim bust is modified to, you know, actually be slim. I like Jun as he is with the Macho, but it would be nice anyway.
So uh. I'm pretty sure I already stalk follow your pretty boy on Instagram. His wig is amazing and looks so soft. I do hope that there's a little more variety in boy bodies, not that I don't love the girls. But I feel like so much time and effort has been placed on the girls due to them being more popular (Danny's words, not mine). That there hasn't been much movement in updating the dudes.
@Angelesk Yup, we're mutuals on IG haha. It's kind of funny how there seems to be this general consensus among the vinyl anime doll producers that no one wants the guys so they just sort of... Don't bother. At least from a Western POV, it feels like it's totally the opposite. The vinyl server I'm in regularly howls about wanting more male options. Volks only offers them in Dream Choice or as the rare fullset, Parabox has their 1/4 boys but they're regularly sold out (gee can't imagine why), so Danny is sitting on what could be a gold mine. I know that if I'd been aware of his company years ago I would've jumped on a Milk Eiji, especially the original "soft" sculpt.
I feel like that's how I "know" anyone...by their doll! I noticed that too, when I saw that "boys weren't as popular" I was really shocked. I literally just put down quite a bit of money to find a proxy who would buy a Dream Choice BOY for me, and ship it here. I considered the same thing with Parabox/Obitsu bodies too, but you're right; they're ALWAYS sold out. At this point, I wouldn't buy a custom DD boy head or a Smartdoll boy head without having a body first, and I'm 100% with you on wishing I would have been aware of Smartdolls earlier. I missed out on Gemini~ But like, buying him second hand is out of the question. Those prices are crazy.
@SunnyWindy i have her too she is my favorite girl and i adore her expression! the pouty look got me! i also just got her sister Tea Genesis 2 last monday c: probably the only girls i'll ever own i can only dream of owning the grumpy girls someday. like Journey, Destiny, Resolute, or Ambition ~ *sigh Your Chi is gorgeous btw those colors suit her so well!
I just got an awesome surprise. My Tomorrow was ship today. I was not expecting for her to be ship until the second week of July. I just order her this past Saturday and according to the smartdoll site was going to take 15 days. I’m not complaining at ALL I’m just really excited with the nice surprise shipping notice. Finally my Panchita will have another smartdoll friend
I have more questions for all of you Smart Doll owners. Do you need to be registered to buy? I tried to register, but it seems they only allow it if you've already made a purchase? Is it really hard to order? I missed Supergirl completely - I wasn't totally interested in her, but I wanted to keep track, since it seems Batgirl is next and I do want her. But the more I look at Danny's instagram, the more I get discouraged as it seems I might not be able to order at all.
It is saddly getting harder and hard to order the new dolls and double so the limited Smart Dolls. I know there are a few dolls, and parts that can only be gotten if you have already ordered and own at least one other Smart Doll, sometimes more then one. Also " to cut back on resellers and bots" Danny made a post after Supergirl sold out about making it even harder to buy the limited girls with some kind of new order form questionnaire. I had no idea Supergirl had gone up for sale until after she was sold out, much like the last two blue girls. Which sucks as I have stalked the sales page waiting for the blue simi real girl for my S.O. (which we are both starting to think we won't be able to get ever, based on how hard they are to buy and how fast they sell out.) I kinda bet with the next DC girls you will need to already have one Smart Doll, and time it right, and jump through hoops, and maybe more to get one. As for registering I was only able to do that for a "wish list" and that was by poking the little heart icon for faving a doll to a wish list. However I only even noticed those hearts after my 2nd Smart Doll, which I got before they changed to Genesis.
@Tippetarius Well that's depressing. I guess they don't need to worry about attracting new customers so much as keeping old ones, and I am certainly not going to buy a whole doll I don't want just to try and get one I do. I didn't even know Supergirl had been released either. I still don't know where it was announced, or how I'll find out about Batgirl before it's too late. I'm not sure how many "hoops" there are exactly...I zoomed in on that questionnaire, and it seemed like no-brainer questions just to weed out bots, but if "preferred" customers are able to skip that step they'll make it through the order process faster, and those of us who have to stop and pick answers won't make it in time. And that's if I can even figure out how to order, and when. That is sort of the way I found the registration too - I just clicked on the top heart, and it told me I couldn't have a wishlist until I logged in, or registered. So I clicked register and it said something along the lines of "registration is easy! Just enter an email and password!" then when you do, a box pops up that says "lol if we have your email in our system, we will send you an activation email. if not, no registration for you" So obviously they can't have my email unless I've bought from them. So far I am not a fan of this system at all.
@VampireAngel13 I'm not even going to get started on all that is wrong with his way of doing things... Just know that you are far from alone in not liking the system and "rules". Anyway... Here is where the announcements are posted: https://twitter.com/SmartdollLand
First: OMG you are amazing!!! That was exactly what I needed and didn't know existed! Twitter is one of the few Social Media's i'm on all the time...I should hopefully be able to not miss her sales now (and if I do it's all on me lol) and at least I'm not alone? I think it's a crazy business plan to alienate potential customers on purpose.
Perhaps. But the times he releases dolls are quite random. You MIGHT get a date, but no exact hour will be given. Very much so. He's quite keen on perma-banning people from making purchases for the smallest thing, so getting to "ban" people from even making a purchase at all must be lots of fun
