Do you have a blog or website JUST for dolls?

I'm pretty new to Insta but I share wigs or crafts that I do around my bjds^^

Used to have a blog for my dolls when I first started the hobby in 2011, but that era is long gone and nowadays I post my doll stuff on instagram which seems to have the most active bjd community. There's the occasional off-topic doll, but mostly focusing on my bjds.

 

I set up my own little website on Neocities. As someone who cut my teeth learning how to code HTML in Notepad, doing an old school website is very nostalgic and fun for me. No stress, no pressure, just posting doll stuff and finding cute graphics and looking at other people's website. It's nice to see the old web being kept alive and I'm hoping the BJD community at Neocities grows.

 

I started an instagram account for my dolls recently (birdybjd), but I've only posted a couple little photos on there so far.

I might set up a tumblr for dolly nonsense, too, just because I like playing around and interacting with the community . . . buuut I've heard some not-great things about the bjd community on there so I'm like EHHH we'll see about that.
I just like tumblr because it still lets you search tags and view the posts in chronological order. Instagram whyyy . . .

 

I made a doll Instagram (dollcvlt) but tbh I mostly use it for looking at other people’s dolls and finding inspiration for mine. I do post photos of my own dolls, but I have a lot to learn in terms of posing and photography

 

@Cryptid ooh... you might have inspired me to make my own neocities website... if I can find the time...

That's the nice thing about a static website-no having to worry about frequent updates to stay at the top of things, you just do it on your own time. I keep being tempted to learn how webrings work so I can set up a BJD one...

 

I used to have a small forum where I, my partner, and a couple friends could post photo shoots, photo stories, and profiles. But we kept getting hacking attempts, then photobucket decided to start charging and holding your photos for ransom, so it's pretty much shut down now. I also had a Blog called Rupert's Doll Links but I've not updated it in a loooong time.

 

To save you some effort, there are actually at least a couple of BJD fanlistings and webrings already! I won't link them here since I can't vouch for the site contents but they can be found around Neocities!

 

That's handy to know! I tried looking at some webring coding stuff previously and found my eyes crossing.

 

I have one that I just started last year as a diary for my own thoughts, like I'm not expecting anyone to actually read it, but a journal of sorts. If I recall right it's linked in my signature? I sprinkle some doll photos there occasionally because I don't really share pictures elsewhere. However, I do often notice myself coming back to the blog like "damn, I don't even own the doll I was supposed to post about anymore, I should be more active". it's hard to actually dedicate a couple hours to make a post!

 

I love seeing all these blogs and websites away from instagram and tumblr! Keep sharing and updating them

I have an IG account but as we sometimes see people losing their Instagram account without explanation, I created a WordPress website / blog showing my creative stuff (BJD photos, sculpture, writings...) from the last 20 years. It's mostly for myself but I really like having this little corner of the web. ^^

I have a Tumblr side blog (Geodeseye). It is quite empty right now though. Someday far in the future when I finally get around to making my art neocities I might add an off shoot for my dolls.

 

I don't really like platforms like facebook and instagram but I might one day make a blog or site for my dolls

 

I'm in a few BJD groups on Facebook, but it bothers me that the quality of the pictures isn't good and Fb in general isn't clear. I don't really like Instagram either, but it works as a source of inspiration. I like Flickr, but a lot of collectors have left that, which makes me sad. I have two blogs, or rather the owner of one of them is my first doll.

 

I've got a website! It's actually where I've been posting all of my doll and character profiles, ever since I quit maintaining an active presence on doll social media. I've been trying to get more old-school and go back to forums and tiny websites, and building this thing was a huge step in that direction.

It's a constant WIP, but it's fun to have around. I'm a web dev by trade, so having my own little corner of the internet to exercise my code skills in is great practice, and now I can just write out my url and give it to folks IRL who wanna see my doll stuff, and they CAN, no account or anything needed! Thank goodness for Neocities. Building this thing and hosting all the pictures I have on there would not be possible without them...or at least not so cheap. 5 bucks a month for 50 gigs of storage feels like I'm robbing them, lol.

 

My Instagram (@thespiandolls) is just for my doll collection! It frequently features my Blythes in addition to my resins and vinyl girls. I think it would be nice to have a dedicated blog space, too, but I'm not active enough at this point in time to justify the effort/cost of putting together a website for them.

 

I do have Instagram for my dolls. After years of procrastination and anxiety over it, I finally decided to make my own little blog and get in to the blog "world" (it's great now I can find more blogs here). My Instagram is mostly just my "photobook", but I wanted to create a place I can ramble and scribble things.

 

It's not a blog so much as an easy-to-browse compilation of my photostories somewhere the pictures won't vanish on me.

It may be a simple format, but it gives me a lot of joy to look back on what I've done.

When it comes to documenting projects and talking about works-in-progress, I prefer to do that here on Den of Angels. I tried the official 'blog' thing for a few years and it felt like a chore.

I also have an Instagram.

 

I have a site with a custom domain where I do blog, but I'm rather bad at updating it regularly. When I do update my site, it's usually to host an image so I can post it here.

As I mentioned in the Do you have a profile / photo site (re: old school, non-social media) for your bjd's? thread, I leverage HUGO and publish through a github <-> Cloudflare integration (all free). Since I created the site last year I managed to add links to other doll sites, though it's rather bare at the moment. I am planning to add some of the active ones in this thread to my page. I also added a "store" as at alternative way to list my dolls, but that was mostly for proof of concept.

The thing that was most cool to implement was the timeline in which I collected my dolls. I hope to make my doll profile pages more filled out and have their stories added. Maybe a network graph of how they relate?

 

Yes, I keep my photo comic on my Instagram. I also have a few random pictures of my dolls there as well.
When I get the first season of Blossom Boys all put up on Instagram, I'm going to put the completed season one on Blogger.
Right now I am just putting it up during the weekdays.

I've never had one, but it's something I might consider for next year. Maybe use it for various types of dolls, future and current projects, ideas, and such. It would give me the opportunity to put everything in one spot.

I have made a small Neocities website... it's a bit too minimalist but I still need to figure out what to do with it so it's more than a glorified image dump

 

My husband and I have been debating about doing this for a while. Partly because it seems our dolly collection has a few fans whenever we go out in public with them. It's weird having a few dolls that seem to have fans. It's like, uh...how you know our doll? Hahahaha. And I know we tend to be recognizable when we do go out in public with our dolls. It's like, "Oh! You're that couple!" Bwahahaha. Um... like...how do you know us?

I have social media accounts that were meant for only IRL family and friends but have slowly been getting some non-IRL "friends," pseudo-celebrity or social media famous people, and people requesting to be friends for a while now. I'm thinking it's time for just a dolly account of our combined dolls as I don't want to feel like a mean person and trim that friends list, but it makes sense to have a dolls only account meant for the dolls and for basically the public, but return my personal social media accounts back to the basics of IRL friends and family only. I'm too nice for my own good and feel bad about rejecting people, but I really value my privacy too much so I need to think about things a little more seriously. It's different now than it was "in the old days". Our dollies having a single social media account of all doll related things that's fine as they are just dolls and sharing images of them and only them is fine. But the real me needs to remain private with no images of us our there and not stalkable. Hahaha. Like, for realsies.

Also, I get it. We do have a few dolls that are considered Grail dolls for some people. And I remember how nice it was "back in the day" to be able to see current pictures of those said Grail dolls, especially if they are still in pretty good condition which is getting harder to find as the years go by. It's like having a pet that becomes social media famous and you feel sort of obligated to share pictures of them but still want to be anonymous. Do it for the dolls and the doll fans, but leave me alone, if that makes sense.

I had actually tried to do it once before but I really wasn't good about it in the beginning of making sure to keep the real me anonymous (like absolutely no pictures of us at all, making sure no one tags us, no one takes casual pictures of us without our consent, no identifying anything, etc) and people figured out who the owners of our dolls were which makes it uncomfortable. Especially people that want to buy our dolls from us but we are not interested in selling. If I were to do it all over again, I need to really think about it hard to make sure we do it safely and it's remains fun for us instead of a burden.

I do! I keep a gallery of my Noble Dolls girls (I love my other dolls, but I don't photograph them at all/as much as those three) and a blog on it.

I, too, have gotten on the neocities train. Took me a long time to get to it but it's nice to have my doll into all in one place

I do have a doll page within my website…it is just info page for faceup commission. I have not thought about developing it more than that…now that it can be a thing, I do want to develop one!!
