Dose it count if I work from home? xD When I get my new dolls they will totally hang out around my computer as I work! However if I had a job outside of my home I wouldn't. I would be too scared of what could happen.
I don't think I've considered actually bringing them to work. I have showed coworkers pictures for sure and they usually find them interesting. I have so many figures and stuff at my desk though I don't think anyone would find it weird I had one there if it was smaller. I think most of mine may be too big though ><
I used to have them delivered to work back when I lived in the city. It was way easier than hoofing it to the post office. I've never brought them to work to display though. I guess I could. I have an entire art studio to myself here. But lugging 70cm dolls around day after day would get kinda...old? Maybe if I collected YOs!
Yes I do. I work for a large corporation from 3 to 11 pm Mon - Fri. I am an instrumentation electrician so I wait in my lab until something needs fixing. I am the only one here on this shift so I can pretty much do what I like within reason. I read a lot, read up on DoA and yes, I play with my dolls. I often bring stuff in to make a new wig or dress or something like that. Usually I will bring a new doll in so I can unbox it and look it over here in the quiet sanctity of my lab. It is very nice.
I have brought my tiny and MSD to uni once the people who saw them thought they were cute and of course I heard the "I'm scared of dolls but yours are cute" comment over and over again haha!
I think it would depend on the place of business. I work at a middle school in the middle of downtown memphis. NOPE not bringing my dolls in there with my kids. It'd just be a recipe for disaster. But if I had an office job I could see maybe bringing one to chill with me in my cubical or something if the boss didn't mind.
This sounds like a really fun way to share your hobby and I love how supportive and interested your coworkers are. I feel like my work would be the same way for enthusiasm, but not from my upper management. I feel like they would frown upon it. I would love to be able to bring any dolls I eventually own to work with me but my concern would be it going missing or someone mishandling it or something like that. However, I feel like even if it's only once, I would most likely bring a doll with me to work.
I've taken my YoSD to work before, both with and without adequate protection/padding. But I never took him out of my bag - there were always people around, and I didn't want to have the inevitable conversations about the doll. I have three vampire dolls now, and I'm thinking about taking one of them with me a week from now (Halloween) since she can work with a costume, if I plan it right!
No, I won't mix work with my private pursuits or as the saying goes "Don't mix work with pleasure". I'd be very concerned they'd end up getting damaged, also I might freak out folks who might not like dolls and wonder what it's doing sat around.
I work at a primary school, so I guess I will never bring my doll to work. People can have various reactions to dolls. I imagine my students will be overly excited about my doll, and who knows what can happen next. I do show photos of my doll to some of my closer colleagues and one takes particular interest on Gabriel (he's there as my avatar). She even plans to visit my house during holiday to see him in person. It's going to be fun!
Usually I don't bring them with me, because I work as a chef in a restaurant, and the kitchen is not the best place for them. But once I brought my Realfee Haru, because my boss was interested in the dolls (once he'd seen that I checked the FL site from my phone at our 5 minutes break, and he tought they are bigger and for another use... khem... "another use", but I said him, nope, they aren't for "that"), and on that day, little Haru went trough the whole reastaurant because everybody wanted to see her. And since that, sometimes they ask me about my dolls (last time when my boss asked me, "when will you buy the next?" I replied: "Yesterday! "
I've commented on this post once, but my situation has changed so I'm posting again. I have indeed taken my smallest doll Chloe to work twice. The first time was because I'd just gotten her and didn't want to drive back home and drop her off. The second time was because I wanted some pictures of Chloe in front of the library's Christmas tree (which I'd just completed). Both times ended well for dolly and dolly owner; Chloe sat up on the empty bookshelf behind my desk while I sat at the computer and did my work. I don't think any of my patrons noticed her either time. Still, I try not to make a habit of bringing my dolls along to work. They provide an unnecessary distraction and there's always that chance that they could get broken or stolen.
Haha! Actually, I just took my little bitty Island Doll An An to work with me today! It only works because she fits in my pocket, though. I couldn't bring anything more than a tiny with me to my job. She can't be seen on the sales floor, thus why she has to fit in my pocket, but she can sit on my desk in the office. I rarely bring her, but it makes me smile, even if nobody else sees her.
I take a Pipos Vanilla Ringo nearly everywhere with me. He is a fun subject for random pictures. Most often seen in drinking establishments and while I should be working.
Yep. I work in a call center and my desk is in a corner. I even have a little stand just for them and am planning a couch or chair. Usually I am sewing new stuff for them at work. My coworkers already think I'm crazy. I don't bother verbally confirming.
No, I don't. I probably could if I wanted to since I'm generally alone all day in my own room in our tiny office but I prefer to keep my private life and work life separate.
I didn't actually plan on brining her to my office, but I had to since I came from picking her up from the seller. I didn't show her though, kept her in her carrying case and didn't tell anybody what was inside the bag. Tomorrow, I'll be picking her up from the face up artist I commissioned and will have to bring her to the office again, and this time my colleagues are insisting that I show her to them so there you go.
i have barbies at work, my first and main squeeze lol. sometimes i wrap one up and stick her in my purse like a sort of comfort item. just knowing she's there makes me feel better. i have anxiety and bipolar tho. i'm too afraid of my bjd getting damaged to take her to work tho i take my barbies to work, have a few who stay there, but i don't think i'd ever risk taking a bjd there.
Sadly, I don't because I work in a lab where I play with DNA & RNA all night long (lol graveyard)! Wish I could though! I get bored on most nights x)
Unfortunately I work in retail and I don't think it would be a very good idea. If I worked in an office setting or something maybe. But retail? That wouldn't go over well.
Unfortunately no. I'm a Barn Manager/Broodmare Manager at a world class show/breeding facility. It wouldn't end well between the horses and the lesson students and horse manure... I'm jealous of everyone who is able to bring their dolls to work. I wish I could!
Two of my dolls I brought in offis only once and only because it was after work I had a meeting with friends who have a dolls too. Colleagues looked and said that they are beautiful, but how much they are worth, I did not speak. I immediately put the dolls in the bag, that others collegues do not see them. About my hobby are very few people know, because show a lack of understandin, they think that frivolous hobby.
I'm a veterinary technician so having my dolls around a lot of crazy, bouncy dogs and fractious cats is not ideal. Also, my coworkers seem to think that my doll hobby is really weird. So it's a no go for me.
I work in a hospital, so I definitely could not bring my girls to work. Im sure it would be super unsanitary to do so, but I also wouldn't have anywhere to put them even if I wanted to lol. It is awesome for the people who can bring them to their workplaces though!
I cannot. I work in a warehouse. I would have nowhere to put my dolls. They would be stolen or broken. Plus, it's filthy in there. If I had a desk job, I would absolutely bring them.
I work in photography, so when my dolls arrive I do plan to bring them on a photoshoot session to have their own photo session as well and what's great is that my photographer is already curious about them and willing to capture them professionally for free
No, I work as a cashier currently and it's not very practical having any of my dolls with me, sadly. I would if I could, though! I have shown pictures of my dolls to a couple of coworkers who were interested, and they seem to like them a lot, so that will have to do for now. xD
Depends on the day and situation. I actually did cause I was so happy and I need to show & tell! But honestly, I don't want to cause somebody might steal it from me!
I've never brought mine to work because I babysit a 2yr old and that just seems like a disaster waiting to happen but, I have brought them to school before. My art teacher loves when I bring them in. He thinks they're fascinating.
Like a lot of people here, I work in retail, so probably not! I'd like to bring Aelic when I'm behind the jewelry counter, it'd give me something to talk about with customers. But I'm sure that would be against store policy. (Also I might be tempted to buy charms for Aelic, because he wears necklaces... )
I'm not sure my dolly would do very well at my work--I'm never at my desk. Bringing one might have worked today, as I was trying to fix an IT problem, but the doll would have to stay at my desk when I went to deal with animals (I could hardly bring one into the animal facility--it wouldn't be clean, but even besides that, it sounds like a recipe for disaster. That's actually why I responded to this prompt, however. The mental image of a doll in the animal facility. The smell--eek!)
I work security at a large international engine company, and yeah, I bring a dolly to work with me sometimes. Usually when they need a new hair do. My boss used to be a beautician, and she likes to give me dolls dos, like French braiding their hair for me. I have the coolest boss ever!
The staff rooms where I work aren't safe for dolls. They're more like broom cupboards than actual rooms. People are always running in and out with heavy equipment. There'd be no space for my SD unless I held her in my lap. Besides, she'd get weird looks from my colleagues. She'd be too much of a distraction, so she gets to stay home.
Haha, I wish! Be great to take photos in the place I work cause of the rustic look of the shop hahah, but my old work I did take him in once to take photos with my doll friend who collect pullips hehe
I work for a university and there are students, staff, and faculty members in and out all day so I don't think it would be the safest environment. Also some of my co-workers have seen photos of the dolls and think they are freaky so I think they would be too judgemental
I had my first doll with me at work .... but only once or twice ... because one of my co-workers are really into Dolls and she hasn't seen a BJD yet in real life .....
I used to take her to the office I worked at in college. My coworkers loved to see her and weren't surprised at all since I also kept a rubber duck and a realistic toy squirrel on my desk. Right now I work retail at a stall in a large indoor market; there's no room for her and I couldn't keep a close eye out for thieves. As for my other job, acting...I used an OT antique doll as a prop when I did a haunted house, and I can definitely say never again! Too many grabby hands.
Nope, that wouldn't go over well as a male collector. I barely let my friends see them. They all look at me a little cockeyed.
Definitely not, I won't be able to keep an eye on them all the time, and I don't want them to get stolen or lost or have curious people who don't know their value judge them or mishandle them and/or dirtying/damaging them in the process. Though I imagine it would be a different matter if you have your own office.
I dun think I will be distracted from work if I bring them to my office, but I'm afraid that people will be curious about them and touching them without my permission. So I will not bring them to work.
I've brought two of them over just because I had talked about them before and everyone was curious about them. One was my MiniFee Rendia and the other my giant Dollshecraft David Kuncci, but they both stayed in their boxes all day since I move around a lot and I'm very rarely sitting at my desk unless it's slow.
I know that I have answered years ago in this thread, and although I don't take dolls everyday to work as I used to, I still occasionally do take a doll or two, especially when I am sewing an outfit. I still work in the same job with mostly the same people, so the trustworthy atmosphere is still the same as 2011, and most everyone knows that I am 'weird' anyways, so dolls bring no surprise, especially among the other toys on my desk...
yes but only my tiny since she is small and doesn't attract that much attention. I am still a little bit anxious to bring my msd ones to work however I like to bring along my 2 msds when I travel
I don't have a bjd yet and I'm 14. So I don't have a job. But, if I'm older and have a job, I probably wouldn't bring my bjd.
omg never lol!! i'd be SUPER paranoid if someone were to steal it or something. i'm generally very paranoid of ppl even being near my stuff lol like even if someone just touches a pen of mine i don't like it.xD or if people are near my stuff when i'm not there.;_; i used to have my stuff broken, stolen or vandalized A LOT when i was a kid and teen so now i'm just....super paranoid. lol
I would not bring my bjd to work, I would feel to insecure that people would think me weird and find it creepy.
I work at a library in the archive, and I used to be able to bring one of my Littlefee with me, because I was tucked away in the back with the old microfilm machines doing cataloguing. We've gotten new machines now, and they're no longer hidden away like that, so I've stopped.
I work from home so they're here all the time. But I have tucked a small doll into my handbag when I was at some high stress events and needed a little bit of comfort. (One being a funeral with a lot of drama and screaming going on because the deceased's relatives were nuts. Never brought it out around the crazies, excused myself when I needed a little dolly time for destressing)
I bring my dolls to work sometimes, mine are yosd so are ez to bring ard. My colleagues are ok wif them too
Well, currently, all the work that I do do, I do from home. But when I was doing my art work in a studio with a group of other artists, I contemplated bringing one of my dolls for some still life modeling. I never did, though-- that particular studio could get pretty chaotic, there was often paint flying, clay covering every surface... it was just a little too crowded and active a space for me to feel like my dolls would definitely be safe. I showed off some pictures of creative work that I did with them, but left them at home. (it was a really great work environment for me as an artist-- it was the same location that I took my fine arts classes at, they just also had studio days where you could come in and do your own work. I wish there were more places like it, now that I don't live there.)
Oh no, i definitely couldn't do it. For both social and functionaly purposes. I work in a hospital and I'm busy quite often. Having my doll around would only stress me and make me uncomfortable.
I took one of my dolls with me to work when I worked at a bar once but that was because I was being picked up by my boyfriend at the time to go to his house and a few friends were going to be there with their dolls. He let us have a mini doll meet in his room it was nice. But one of my coworkers saw her loved her and next thing I knew she was greeting customers at the door with me. And hanging out with my manager in the office even hanging out with the kit Chen staff to tell them hurry up the orders it was cute. I now work at a pharmacy and my managers and coworkers are begging me to bring my dolls to work and "help them put up the shipment" more specifically look cute for my manager and make her happy while she puts up the shipment and rolls her around the store on a cart. So i guess it depends who you are and where you work.
I work with children on a preeschol and they're 1-3 years old. I sometimes think the children would love to see the dolls but ofcourse I can't they would not understand to be careful
