The most ridiculous thing I had once was someone who sent me an obviously edited picture taken from someone else on instagram. The original had a blue wig, she just justed the hair brown and tried to fool me.
She also wanted 1000 dollar for the head only xD....

 

Eeeek, how sad that the scammers are so bold.

 

What a shame that scalpers are already trying to profit from this.
I feel like there are some people out there that just buy the head for simply to make money out of it. No interest in dolls or such things, just want to buy things for cheaper and sell 3-5 times more expensive. And now they are trying to benefit from us, who didn't even had a chance for the doll/head

 

I remember that *** girl! so annoying.

I was also offered a Hwayoung head on twitter and asked for some pics of the sticker. The seller took 2 weeks to send me the pics and it turned out to be a recast (no sticker and it has "Hwayoung" on the inner head. She was asking for 900usd. When I told her that was a scam she just reacted like "oh really? I didn't know!"....

I would also like to have regular sales. Since right now I'm experiencing financial difficulties. But a very long time waiting for a new sale. It is unfortunate that many could not buy. Those who really needed this doll.

 

I know Rugged Realism has announced that she will only sell to people who have bought before or people she knows.

 

well that's also not very user friendly. I never have bought a rugged realism sculpt but I reallylike Epsilon. This would be unfair because I never get the chance to buy him.

btw one of the 1000 dollar heads is now on instagram. It's crazy. The head was sold gor 150 dollar. I will never get over it

 

I'm not sure Esthy would be able to do regular orders due to the issues with celebrity likeness...

How sad about the heads only being purchased to sell on.

 

@DeanDynamite I believe Epsilon can’t be reproduced. Only secondhand market I guess. What would you do about scalpers if you were a doll maker?

 

The solution is not easy to state. Produce more, or every X time looks like a nice idea though. Nevertheless, we don't know about Esthy life, so we can never be sure. I've been stalking her a little on her page and I think the Korean media (news..) are after her. This is not the first time, but she always avoided it. I'm guessing she wants to keep as anonymous as possible to avoid problems with companies and so on.

Saying that, I can imagine that her idea of making new dolls based on BTS could be also done for her ( I hope I'm wrong but)...

Anyway, If I were her, I'll try to do something about. As minimum as staying in my official web page some words not to encourage recasting/scams. She is also prejudiced with scammers and recasts i believe. Nobody likes your art pieces to be reproduced or stolen!

 

AFAIK, Esthy has always been against recasters and they've stated it publicly before. They've never encouraged it.

Esthy has always had limited runs of the sculpts they've made and from what can be noticed in public, that system has been doing well for them. In a way, limited production could reduce recasting as there would only be a limited amount of people who are able to obtain the real version. It is sad that a lot of international buyers couldn't acquire their own in the recent re-release, but Esthy's decision on how they've done orders/preorders should be respected.

Those prices frighten me but what really bugs me is the people who purchased the heads just for resale and scalping people. Definitely not a fair thing to do.

I wonder if Esthy would have any possibilities to sell regurlarly her dolls. And just say that they aren't BTS or have nothing to do with them. Like Bomi does. When they changed the name and stopped calling their dolls after BTS, they were left alone and can now hold regular preorders and sales for their dolls.

There are other minimee dolls out there but not a huge fuss over them and artists can sell them regularly if wanting to do so. Theh just don't state the person, they just say they take heavy inspiration for example from certain ethnicities.

 

Lol, at some point I even thought about contacting to the people who make 3d printed objects here where I live and send them pictures and so on and have them printing out a Bts inspired head that I could then sent to a caster to be casted for myself xDD but then it just sounded pretty creepy said outloud so I gave that up

 

It sounds like Esthy pre-made a couple hundred heads and received that many emails in the first minute, which is amazing considering how long it seems to take other doll retailers to sell out of LE. Well looks like the recent Ringdoll LE is all sold out within hours at most, I guess! On the other hand, I wish she had enough stock to keep the order window open for more than what, 3 minutes max? :p

Being fair, this happens often enough, its that kind of one-person artist specialty artisanal hobby. Genuinely didn’t realize the sculpt would be so popular, so good for her. I’m not up to date, is this usual?

 

Also to throw in for consideration, she doesn’t speak English, so I think it’s fair that she prioritized emails she could actually read w/o trying to distangle google translate And could ship domestically quickly and cheaply and w/ good communication. Harder to troubleshoot expensive product loss messages in other countries banking systems and different language. Relevant because for future orders, putting a order in korean might genuinely be helpful to get uh read.

 

She did have a quite good and readable english form and she got alot of help from friends regarding the english and orders possibly made on english
If she was uncomfortable with english and international buyers, it would have been okay thing to state and say that this time around, only Koreans or orders made insidd Asia are accepted. I believe many would have been okay with that and understand.

I do understand that this is common hassle and is seen with many other individual artists who only work alone without any dealers or help from casters. The amount of interest and rush of buyers is scary thing to happen and can't be controlled in any way. Some do lotteries just for the sake of their own mental health in order to have more control over the sales. I personally think Esthy wasn't prepared enough for this. She got a lot of help from Nobility doll the last times, but now she needs to handle everything by herself and the amount of work is overwhelming.

 

That makes all kinds of sense. We would all like to know in advance that the sale was Asia only, but if she had no sense of the number of orders that would come rushing in, she really couldn't say that in advance. She probably could only make that decision in the spur of the moment, knowing what she was capable of doing and not capable of doing. This is not an easy decision. I work for myself so I know this firsthand. I know it doesn't seem fair, but being so sought after and not having help must be harder on her than on us.

 

That makes all sense. And it may be something added too. I received my Hwayoung last week and I've checked the address. The doll is sent from DAEGU. Many of you may know that Daegu suffered terribly from corona in the end of February and March, due to that religious sect. All the town was in lockdown. I'm guessing that she may have suffered from the lockdown too.

 

Hey guys, I've been out of the loops for several years. How is Distant Memory doing and are Esthy Peroths accessible anymore? Judging from the discussion here, it looks like DM has closed off selling overseas?

 

I don't think so T_T. The only 2nd batch she opened was for the Hwayoung this year. But I have seen lasts months some on the second hand market, so you may have some opportunities to catch him!

 

Where is it possible to find a second hand one?

I have only seen cheap recasts being sold. I have always wanted the blonde Sunho doll.

I am waiting on Jaeii peach yellow skin. I have searched everywhere and reread old posts but I cant find a clear answer on what body he suits best.

Can someone please help me out?

I've had this guy for about two years now, but finally got around to getting him a really nice faceup at the end of last year! BTS is one of my favorite Kpop groups, they've really helped me through some tough times so being able to have this guy in my collection is a dream! I actually missed his original release since Esthy closed his order period like 5 days early, and I found this guy many months later on Instagram for such a great price! I'm still getting him put together, and he needs a desperate restringing that I am terrified to do!

 

I am a bit late with this answer, but I have seen Jaeii head on Switch's HD65 body as well. If you don't mind a bit difference in resin colour, it can be an option too.

 

I have my guy on a Doll Family H body I think it is (it's either DFA OR DFH but I cant for the life of me remember which lol) and the resin match is really great! Its decently muscular without being bulky and isnt too skinny

 

Thank you for replying. I ended up buying a DFH-65cm body as you can get the resin matched and I heard good reviews for it.
But I will hopefully be getting a Switch HD65 for my IHaveDoll Tune

Distant memory got me interested in BJDs again, as you can see from my avatar I want that doll and Sunho but I never seem to catch them when they go on sale I sent her an email like 2 months ago asking about the sales for this year so I don't miss them and never got an answer

I hope she is doing well and that she doesn't close the doors for international BJD lovers like I've seen other BJD artists doing...the aftermarket prices are INSANE. I found the dolls for $3000+ no thanks....and I would never support recasts. I will patiently wait...

 

Are you on Instagram? Hwayoung (the doll as your avatar), Peroth and Jaeii are all selling now. They are only the heads, but Peroth and Hwayoung both have a face up. They are under $1000 for the heads which is not bad, because Hwayoung is usually $1500 for head only. I would get Hwayoung except I already have such a long list and want a Soul doll next.

Oh dearrr I went through something like that on Fb. I had a WTB post up for Switch 70cm body. This seller came and asked what's a good deal for it and said I could ask for any price but it has to be paid F&F.

That was a red flag for me. I told her, I want to see a picture of the body and I only pay using G&S. Immediately after that, she just disappeared never to be heard from again lmao.

I have restrung mine to fix the wiring. It wasn't bad. I always have the most trouble getting the feet off because the hook is inside the ball, heh. But it's pretty standard as I recall.

 

I have sent in my form for Laeoh head! I hope I was fast enough and are able to get him. Did anyone else sign up? I’m a little nervous since this is the first time I’ve had extra money saved and able to join in and try and buy a distantmemory head.

OK. I've been watching the Volks tutorial on youtube since it's gonna be my first time and I'm hoping it will be similar. Jeez, 10 years flew by fast and now he's loose. I remember when I got him, he was so flippin tight.

I was checking Twitter and Instagram before I realize i could use doa and found out by accident it was on sale today.

I'm really happy i now will have a bts head, but i am worried I got scammed. I can't find a newsletter to subscribe to on distant memory. Where is the spot to subscribe so i can get news. I had a hard time navigating on the site because the print is so small on my phone. I've been trying to find more information on distant memory, but I can't find much information on Twitter and instagram.

I think Esthy stopped to offer face up a while ago since she felt overwhelmed with too many orders, and she does them herself (not sure if it was with Jaeii in 2019? or right after). As far as I know Jaeii didn't have face up option, and definitely in 2020 Hwayoung face up was not available, neither Leo is (I asked about Hwayoung back that time).

Full set includes head + body jointed hands, and I specially love the jointed hands, that's why I wanted it. But honestly, with only the head will do, you can match him with other body later! Since she didn't offer layaway, I made layaway myself with my bank

In my case I have a credit card. So I can spend like 2000usd and then pay back monthly (I pay back 150usd per month). I only use it when I really can't pay something, so I tend to use the entire 2000 usd. Then I have connected my credit card to my Paypal!

I try to buy from companies with layaway, so I feel less guilty about the purchase price i try to find a dealer/distributor with longer layaways.

 

It's my only option in this kind of cases ! Good idea to get layaway from companies who can't offer it for example.
