I love his eyes!! Are they 12 or 14mm? I actually had a bunch of 16mm eyes from Mako Eyes, but they seem to be a little too big for Distant Memory eyes... I suppose 14 - 12 would be better?

@cudnaruza hehe Thank you He is wearing 12mm small iris eyes that I made for him to wear.

 

He looks great! how do you like the jointed fingers? I'm still undecided if I'd like them or not ^^

 

@Vrg2 I definetely prefer them instead of the regular hands. But comparing the Jointed hands from DM to the ones I have from Sadol, I find DM jointed hands are a little weaker on grasping certain objects and holding it in position(ex. 1/3 size props such as cups etc.) Other than that, I think they are great.

I just realized I have not shared by DMs yet so here they are.
Jaeii (Cheongug) is a full DM and the other (Jigu) is an ihavedoll Tune + DM body hybrid (works pretty well btw)

 

It's a very subjective decision... But in my opinion bigger iris works better for them. I don't know how it is for Sunho but for Jaeii 6mm are suggested.

I wonder if any of you have re-stringed a DM doll?
I want to do it, but there seems to be a big amount of thick wire inside and I dont want to un-string the body and not be able to bring it back in position...

I'm looking for some kind of advice or tutorial especially for DM bodies (I know how to restring in general but with the wire inside DM is special)...

 

@DeanDynamite You can unstring him and put the wire back in as you string the body back again. Many people use wiring to help dolls to pose and hold those poses better.
Just place the wires back where they were so you shouldn't have any problems ^^

Yuri has a good little collection of clothes, but I feel like maybe he's a bit in between sizes on some things so I thought it would be nice to hear what other people have tried and found worked or didn't. Maybe I'm just missing a good size for him. Hehe.
For me I usually go with shirts in sd17 size and pants in sd13 size, but the pants are a bit short. Nice and snug though, hehe.

 

I use 65cm sized clothing for my DM lads.

 

I replaced my boy's eyes and he became so cute))))
Now it is 16mm with a small iris)

Alright! This may be sacrilege but this week I sent my Jaeii off for modding. I'm excited and nervous to see how he comes out at the end. But I think he's in pretty good hands with Gabriel/Lightlybattered

 

Oooh, super curious to see how he turns out. And if you don't like it, at least Jaeiis aren't rare yet. I think yours might be the first Jaeii I see modded; super excited with you!!

 

@Chriandra I'm curious as to how your Jaeii will look with modifications-I hope you share photos when he finally gets back home! Part of me wants to get another Jaeii in White skin but I have so many other dolls I want first!

Thanks! I've never sent a doll off for mods before so it's a bit nerve wracking but not because I'm worried that something will go wrong. I'm just hoping that it turns out the way I have envisioned.

I know who he's based off of but I'm actually sending him off for mods to turn him into a different idol. I want my own little pocket Jung Yunho.

Right now I'm just waiting for him to get delivered into gabriel's hands hehe

 

does anyone know if DM will continue selling BTS dolls? how long does she usually take to start selling again? I think the last thing I knew is that she was working on a Namjoon head

 

@Arletstar Hello-I spoke with someone at Nobility Doll via email in May this year and they said Esthy ran into problems when her dolls became famous. She now has some kind of restrictions.

When I asked them about a new Distant Memory doll in June 2018 they said there would be another doll released at the beginning of 2019. Obviously this didn't happen. After witnessing what happened to the doll artist Author0509 after she came on BigHit's radar I don't blame her. I love going to Esthy's website and seeing how she displays her maknae line. I still hold hope she finishes the Namjoon head she started-he's my main bias!

 

I really do hope Esthy makes more dolls...Even Nobility Doll has made a Jin inspired doll called Genie, even after the supposed issues Esthy may have run into. And Author0509, has released versions of the group with unique, smiling/grinning/smirking expressions, luckily!! Lol. The artists really need to make sure they give their dolls unique names and don't publicly associate them with idols. I wish I knew more how things happened with Esthy, because she never identified her sculpts as members from what I know...I guess she just didn't change them enough...unlike iHavedoll and Author...

 

@marci12 I'm holding onto hope for more Esthy DM dolls as well-when I compare them to other sculpts I have they're really beautiful. I keep hoping someone will sculpt SD size Namjoon and Hobi.

 

I'd be happy with any additional sculpts from Esthy (non-idol inspired), I just love them. The sculpting is so beautiful.
I have E-Yeon and he is one of my favorite dolls. I love how slouchy the DM body is too. Hehe.

 

All Esthy works are a masterpiece I think. (BTS and not BTS related) She is, indeed, one of my favorite BJD artists!.

 

Oh My GOODNESS! I haven't seen many photos of the E-Yeon sculpt and I've searched! I love that sculpt so much.

 

I recommend Alice Collection.
I have two boys with Distant Memory body and bought many clothes for them there. The choice is quite huge.

In general I'd say SD17 / 65cm clothes fit them well. They have unproblematic proportions.

Esthy is one of my favorite doll artists too!
There is something really delicate and sensitive in her sculpts. She was super nice when I ordered my E-Yeon from her too.

I was offered a Sunho head, 1100 dollars + shipping + me paying pp fees.... It is way too much and paying F&F is way too risky since I wouldn't get my money back if something did happen

 

Yessss, you can't pay that much via f&f. Someone on IG asked if I knew how to buy a Sunho, and I could only point them to eBay and that one on there for $1500!!?

 

Eeek, yeah. That would be a VERY scary price to pay via F&F.

I love all the sculpts. Hehe. The idol sculpts are super pretty. And they get styled so neat. I love to see all the clothes.

 

@Lady Ravenswood I totally agree! I find her that she puts a lot of effort in small details and wants her sculpt to be perfect. I guess that working on small quantities and not in a big company has to do with it ^^

 

To me too! I think it was probably the same girl? When she offered me that I already had my Sunho which was cheaper, so I was no way.... Also she came some time after and told me she has a Hwayoung for around 3100usd..... Too overpriced for my taste.

I would love to see more of your E-Yeon! I'm collecting BTS kpop inspired dolls from Esthy and others. When I discovered Esthy's dolls on her site I loved E-Yeon's sculpt. As he was her second sculpt I figured he's unicorn status now.

I have no way to navigate Esthy's Korean site due to the language barrier yet I'm hoping to get Namjoon if she ever releases him through Nobility Doll.

Ah, haha, I don't know about unicorn status. I sorta just figured he was kinda unpopular.
His order period was nothing like the new sculpts. The ordering for the idol sculpts is intimidating! Hehe.
I will post more of him for sure when I take photos again.

The Korean site isn't too bad. I don't speak any Korean at all. I sorta just poked at it till I found what I was looking for.
There is a side bar, and you can click it open and then there is a little figure like a man and that will take you to the sculpt pages. There is some English information on the bottom of the sculpt pages and you could just email Esthy with your order. Er, at least that is how it used to be. I do not know now since they all sell out almost instantly!!

 

Oh my god, can we please talk about that price corruption going on atm?
I was offered Hwayoung as complete doll for 2900 Euro. I said no.

Now I see a Sunho head on ebay for 1300 dollar and on facebook there is a new 'for sale' thread with Jaeii and Sunho - both not even with DM bodies - for 5000 dollar.

Can we all please be reasonable and say NO to these prices?????? We should inspire as many people with that as we can. I thought about making an instagram post to warn people.
This will hurt our own community...

After a few days the seller that wanted to sell me Hwaxoung had messaged my that she has sold the doll.

I can't believe this.

I think that user was here in the thread, and they called the people talking about it jealous lol
What makes me sure that the person you are talking about is bluffing is that they came back to message you that the head sold at that price
They needed to show you affirmation that their doll head was worth that much to someone because you rejected their offer
If they are not, I feel bad for the fan that was taken advantage of, I think our doll community is a lot more smarter than that so I dont think a BJD owner would pay those prices knowing the background.

Its the BTS fans I feel bad for because the sellers use wording to make it seem like it is a very rare and limited opportunity to even be on the preorder/ or how to get / availability of these dolls to make them sound more exclusive using words like handmade OOAK etc

Keep your ad and wait for it, one will turn up at a reasonable price
1100 for a head only that was available for preorder at about 10% of that price originally is ridiculous. I get supply/demand and market price, but that isnt market price based on the graveyard threads.

The good thing about the popularity of these dolls is that it shows that there is demand and a market for realistic Asian males, so Ive noticed some companies offering something similar which is always nice

 

These prices are indeed ridiculous. These are like Volks lottery - ridiculous.
I once mentioned to someone that they can't ask 2000 dollars for sunho and extra 1000 for luts sdf65body since that body was still available from luts for less than that. I'm now blocked because of that :"D

The fans are the ones I'm worried too. They get easily scammed by recasts and they still pay that 2000.

 

Now there are many other companies that make dolls similar to BTS. Therefore, I consider such prices are not reasonable. It seems to me that even minimee is much cheaper. I understand that Distant Memory has a unique design, but we are not limited to the choice of it only.

 

Those are very high prices indeed. I can only think of a handful of dolls that sell at those prices. It will be interesting to see how the market bears it out.

I'll add this too, I'm still waiting to see Nobility Doll's Genie (Jin) head, irl, when he arrives. But, Nobility Doll said they planned on making a V inspired head as well...that should give some hope to those wanting an SD size other than iHavedoll's Tune.

These aftermarket prices for DM Sunho and Hwayoung are over 10x their original price...it's crazy. There's no denying I love them and they're amazing sculpts, but I also think more choices should help with this price gouging...I hope.

 

@MorfeevKot you are absolutely right! There is Ihavedoll, now also Nobilitydoll, Bomi/author. So we are definitely getting more options and variations for Bts inspired dolls.

@marci12 I have seen also Jaeii heads been asked 1000 dollars, which I find ridiculous too. Like, there are much more of those available and they are easier to require but the price is the same O.o

@Katsume912 sometimes I feel like some people are just wanting to profit, and a big time too.

 

I wrote the person who sells Jaeii and Sunho , telling her about what a Jaeii doll and luts body actually costs... She replied quite harshly.

"Sorry, but it is not up to you to decide for what price I sell my dolls. And believe, there will be those who wish, who will buy a doll for that price.
I don't care what other people say. I repeat again: no one forces to buy a doll."

Well for me, I'm not looking for a Taehyung sculpt. At the very beginning I was, but now I already have a doll looking 1:1 like him, I don't want to sell or replace him.

I like hwayoungs very special expression. This sadness he has in his features. It's hard to put in words but I can't find it in other sculpts. It really inspires me.

Still it would be cool if other companies adopt some bts sculpts. I really want a hyungline.

Well I guess I can show you the general idea of what is going to be done but I have no idea how long it will take:

1. Eye-closing
2. Chin extension
3. Nose reshaping / possibly try and make the nose look longer by sanding the top / brow area
   
4. Under the lower lip, dip/deeper indent
5. Jaw sanding (particularly leading to the ear)
6. Philtrum deeper. Upper lip thicker, maybe.
