DiMvasion! Doll in Mind Lestia, Marcellina and Annabeth arrive - plus Gayane

Nov 29, 2016

    1. Three dolls for the price of ... well, definitely not three dolls. I snatched up these beauties on DiM's sale in Summer, and they finally made it home after being held up by customs for way longer than usual. (Even the guys at the local office commented on it - "Took their sweet time, didn't they? Sent out on the 12th and only got here now ...")

Small box considering there's three heads and two bodies in there! Love 2.0 body sitting on my address sticker, waiting for her head.

      Packages.

I got a first glimpse of Marcellina through her bubble wrap at the customs office, but luckily they didn't make me unpack the body kits. Too many small parts! Central customs had opened the Love body, torn off the bubble wrap at least, and taped it closed again. They've never done that before with any of my doll parcels.

My beauties! I had to open Marcellina first. She was the first DiM sculpt I wanted, it's so cool to have her home. But darn, those heads are big!

First MSD in this household! My cutie-pie Annabeth.

As always when there are new heads or bodies in the house, merry games of Musical Heads ensue.
Here's Lestia on the Love 2.0 (obviously slightly mellowed) from early 2013. I had forgotten how pink new DiM resin is!

Not too happy with proportions. The face is adorable beyond belief, but darn what a huge noggin. No way she can fit in with my other dolls.

Marcellina is a slightly better fit:

But enough about the heads. On to the bodies ...

    2. Build-your-own-BJD kits

Dolly puzzles laid out. Thank goodness they came with elastic and hooks! I was worried for a bit, especially because I wasn't sure whether anything in my restringing stash would work for MSDs (since Annabeth is my first).
I was confused when I saw no small S-hooks in Annabeth's package, and only two in the Love one - then I took a closer look at the hands and feet and found embedded S-hooks. Clever!

      Dolly skeletons laid out.

Mobility joints and single-jointed knees on the Happy body? Really?

Sweetie-pie Annabeth! Isn't she adorable? And so tiny, my goodness. With dolls I can't seem to wrap my head around their sizes until I see them. I keep underestimating my SDs when I don't have any of them with me.

(Light was getting really bad at this point. 'scuse the horrible quality!)

And the whole DiM gang! Lestia is on the newer Love body, Marcellina on the Love 2.0, and Annabeth on the immature Happy body.

They stand solidly. The ankles on the newer Love body are a bit weird, so are her legs ... she stands, but her posture is pretty horrible. :sweat I'll see if sueding might help, but it looks like her leg/hip joints are just weird.
Lestia fits on this body, but her faceplate snaps off when the headback gets caught in the elastic channel. Doesn't matter too much since she's probably not staying on the body ... I'll post pics of the DiMlings with the rest of my crew, they won't really fit in, I'm afraid. I have a vague idea what to do with Lestia, but the body will most likely go to someone else. Marcellina might keep the Love 2.0, but I may have a better idea for her, too ... we shall see. Next order of business: Figure out their eye size, probably make some larger ones (I still have blanks, but they look like they'll fit Annabeth rather than the big girls) and start on their wigs. Expect more pics (and more rounds of Musical Heads) tomorrow! :daisy
(Edit: If the weather plays along, there might be faceups soon - but as it's been below freezing point for a while now I'm not getting my hopes up.)

    3. Thanks for posting this thread. I love DIM and have an order with them right now. I was thinking about buying Lestia and Marcellina as well but I was afraid their hands would be too big for my other SDs. Your description of them makes me think I was right but are they pretty! I have a Leonora on an Aimerai body and the proportions are nice but the body is on the yellow side compared to dim pink cast. I think Leonora would be around the same size as Marcellina and Lestia. I love how your girls look on the Dim Love body!

    4. Thank you! :D
I'll post comparisons with my other dolls later / tomorrow ;) You're probably right though, their heads are definitely on the big side. I think, being rather childlike sculpts, they could make wonderful teenagers in a 70+cm dolls group.

    5. Musical Heads, first round: Iple vs. DiM vs. Granado.

Ignore the resin colours. That's Iple Bliss on the Love New, and Lestia on Granado Nuevo (which is a couple years old and has obviously yellowed, but started out much darker than DiM normal skin). I actually really like the proportions! The Iple head has been blushed to match the Nuevo, so do disregard the resin colours. My camera couldn't pick up shades in artificial light anyway, so resin comparisons will definitely not happen tonight.

    6. Congratulations on you DIM-explosion! If it helps any, I hot glue-sueded my Bellosse's head for the LOVE body kit, and it stays on much better. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your new crew :)

    7. Hot glue - of course! Perfect. I'll probably do that. I've got a project journal up for the girls (and their brother who is still on order) and I'll be starting on their wigs and eyes today ;)

    8. Yeah, I suppose if one is used to smaller headed dolls, those DiM melons are a bit of a surprise! ^^; Congratulations on the new arrivals!!

    9. Nice haul! And those embedded S-hooks sound like a good idea, at least as long as they don't affect the posing. Congrats!

    10. @Osaka, thankies! I regret nothing. :whee: I knew their proportions were different, but as usual I can't really fathom how much difference the measurements make until I see the dolls in person. Lestia just looks like a really tall teenager ... she doesn't have to fit in with the main group, so it's fine.

@Sianserais, thank you! They really are. Funnily enough, the only joints with limited posing are the Love (SD) body's wrists, which have regular S-hooks. For some reason beyond my imagination the elastic channel ends in a slit, keeping the S-hook from turning freely, so she can't turn her hands the way the others can.

    11. I love the intricate sculpting on the mouth!

    12. Nice DIM dolls :love

    13. Thank you! :D

    14. Well ... the girls took their time, so Gawain made a point of getting here extra quick. A mere three days, straight from the company and no customs charge! This is a first.

Sneaky-sneak preview as the poor boy (being the first boy his size in this household) doesn't have a stitch to wear:

      That little pout. :aheartbea

Turns out the Gayane head looks a bit smaller than Annabeth after all, so I maaaaay need to switch them out. But we'll see what difference a wig makes first (once I get around to making him one). :)

    15. Congrats! Gayanne and Annabeth are two of my fave sculpts from DIM!

    16. Thank you! Mine too :D I'm super glad I managed to snatch them before they were discontinued.

DiM said only the newer, bigger boy heads would fit on the taller boy body. The neck hole doesn't quite fit, so technically they're correct - but proportions are still great, and he has full mobility. I'd absolutely go for this combo again:
