DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 5

@RainbowMarbles I'm willing to invest in 4 more, which would bring it down to 9. i've already got 2 in a group order, but one of those is for my girlfriend, so...

I figure I can sell anything I don't want later, I just want to do what I can to get this baby casted.

ETA: He got back to me too, but a little before @RainbowMarbles. We actually gained one order in the time between those emails, apparently.

Yeah, I thought there were a good number of people interested in Annabeth so I had fingers crossed. Denny told me 12 for Annabeth as well. I don't want to sound negative at all, just realistically, Annabeth was one of the more popular sculpts outside of the 3 and if she's only at 12, I'm not sure if the others are anywhere close to that.

 

12 for annabeth is pretty good to be fair.
I don't think Ican stretch my budget to more than one extra but i'm willing to help if it's needed.

Still, I rather hope that this tells Denny that there IS a demand given how many orders he got in only a short period and that he maybe offers some of the other heads as a short little limited run like this. I feel like if he annouced "okay, annabeth orders" or had she been one of the definitely offered ones, she might have gotten more orders and as it stands, if he waited a few more weeks we probably could get 25.
I mean 12 wishlist orders in what, two weeks? is pretty good going as she wasn't even on the list of available sculpts, people jsut went "ooo can we get her too?"
so it suggests she's quite popular.

So maybe he'll look at these numbers and go "hmmm, this might be viable" and offer something like this again.

Is the 25 number to do with how many casts you get out of one mold you think? I remember someone mentioning that the nature of resin means it basically eats molds so you have to remake and repair them constantly and you only get a fairly small number of casts from each mold.

 

@purple_monkfish So in my discussion with him, it isn’t like he is hand-casting them, so the decision isn’t his alone. He is collecting orders to pay the factory to cast them, so the minimum order is likely a factory requirement.

For that reason, I strongly imagine it is a hard requirement, no wriggle room.

And since he is trying to retire/leave dolls, I don’t think he is looking to do regular small order windows, even though that would totally be a great idea.

 

true, but I wonder why the company has that requirement and wonder if it's to do with how many casts they get from one mold or the cost ratio of resin/mold/time vs profit margin. I'm sure a lot went into factoring all that.
still, when you think about it, 25 isn't really that many heads.
Wish we had the cash to drop to just order up to 25 lol. If only I was rich, then i'd totally request 25 of most of their sculpts and set up shop selling them on lol.

Why did Denny stop doing dolls? Did he just get bored? wasn't financially viable? It's a shame because DIM was a really good company with such unique sculpts. I miss them badly.

 

He was doing it for a REALLY long time to be honest. At least a decade, maybe fifteen years? That’s an extremely long time to be doing anything. He needs to be able to move on with his life perhaps! Conjecture, but as good a reason as any.

I would assume he picked out Laia, Larina, and Flowne as the most popular Happy sculpts presumably ever, and decided they would get the final encore because they were worth the factory’s time.

As disappointing as it is, I am delighted that earlier in the thread, it was pointed out that at least one DiM sculptor is still producing new sculpts solo, which is amazing! They are clearly the one responsible for my personal favourite sculpts, so maybe my crew will expand in future…

 

@purple_monkfish I was thinking the same with Annabeth (and any other head) not being advertised in the original email. With a month and some communication, I think it could've happened.

It's disheartening to watch a grail pass by, but I do have cute ideas for more Larinas, so it's not a total wash. Maybe I'll get a Laia too.

 

Are we still waiting on a final tally of the wishlist heads? If none of my other wished for heads do not make the cut (pretty sure they won’t ) I’ll add another Annabeth to my order

 

I don't think the counts are technically all in, but I'm not confident we can find 9 (or 8) more orders in 24~ hours.

 

I could possibly add a WS Annabeth and WS Laia if it comes back that none of my requests are getting made, which seems likely. I should have just joined the GO cause shipping is expensive for just a couple, but I think I was being too optimistic that some of my requests would be made

 

Yes, I got the sense it was for this reason as well I have no doubt he loved what he was doing (evident by him doing this incredible limited run ) but was ready for a new adventure

I don't know if she casts her own heads or if she goes through a company. It seems she sells the heads in small batches in unpredictable times but she claims her resin colors match Dreaming Doll resin (both the normal and peach white). For a while I thought maybe DD was casting them for her but hearing the 25 limit is making me wonder if she is doing them herself
I'll ask her one of these days when she doesn't look busy

 

If that helps, I can order 4 Annabeths, but that's as much as I could do I think.

Hey I have room in my collection for one!

 

Less than 24 hours, even. And at some point Denny does have to cut off all orders, since they need to be submitted to a factory. If somebody is too late, then they could very well be rejected from having missed the window.

Personally, I don't think I - nor I imagine @Dew_Drops - feel particularly confident waiting around, given what we're shouldering!

I personally hope Nymph can come back so much, I can't believe there was a little Benetia-sister out this whole time. I truly need her!

 

I'm seriously considering going for a second Annabeth, too. If two people (@staghaus and @PhDolls ) go for 4 each, we would only need 5 people to get 1 more, which seems really feasible? Seems like waaay more than 5 people said "I'll get one" haha.

Eta: I sent another email to Denny to add a WS Annabeth to my order before I could overthink it lol

 

If anyone from the UK/EU wants to get an Annabeth and any of the confirmed 3 let me know asap as I'm gonna email Denny soon.

Did Denny actually end up telling you what stock he had aside from a white skin ace?

 

I haven't heard anything about any other stock myself.

 

From what I read in a different forum:

"Stock item special offer - ACE head(White) 10pcs / Jullis head(White) 5pcs"

 

I asked to add a Annabeth to my order if the quantity is reached - Denny got back to me quickly and invoiced me for the Larina I ordered and said he's added me to the list for a Annabeth.
I wasn't originally going to go for a Annabeth but the more I looked the more I could imagine one being part of my doll family so I hope we'll reach the number needed!

 

Ah this is unfortunate he did not tell me about Jullis, since that would have been relevant to my GO. Unfortunately it’s a little late now…

 

I asked him about it as well, I think they were claimed fairly quickly? But I'm not 100% sure. He was only able to include one Jullis for our GO.

 

Ah yeah, I just thought of that! Jullis is gorgeous and I adore my own very much, I can imagine they were snapped up before I got any stock counts!

 

Just to let you all know, that's the last of Denny's emails I got:

"The number is changed everyday. Annabeth is now 11 from 13 yesterday.
Other sculpts are very low number at the moment."

So I believe some people backed out...

 

Depending on how recent this email is, this may either be my GO, or the number is now a further two depleted.

Unfortunately since my GO is for the original three heads primarily and there are participants waiting on those heads, I couldn’t risk their (or my) orders being too late.

At this point, I’d really suggest somebody run an Annabeth-specific GO?

 

Won't more have been dropped also since the US GO dropped wishlist heads? It's such a shame. I'd run an Annabeth GO if we had more time but one day isn't going to be enough time. I know I was disappointed when I first missed out.

EDIT: Not blaming the GO runners, re-reading and worried it comes across that way. Definitely not and understand why they had to drop them. I meant it's a shame it just didn't reach the total in time.

 

Yeah, I received Denny's email this morning. I guess I should just order from the original 3 sculpts at the moment.... Such a pity about Annabeth though.

 

No worries, no offence taken! I imagine @Dew_Drops and I ended up in similar or identical positions on this one, and had the responsibility to go ahead with what we could to ensure our participants don’t miss out on an order period.

But that’s also why maybe a sculpt specific GO is a good idea. I think the best way to try and get the ideal outcome would be for everyone who wants Annabeth to pool together and make it to 25, and then one representative from that group asks Denny. That way he isn’t being swamped with the same request multiple times so it’s respectful of him but also shows him that there’s enough people willing to drop the cash for a run there and then.

I think what many have said here is true; Annabeth may well have been possible with a little more time. Put together a GO, get 25, send him an email in another few weeks’ time, and see what happens? So long as it is one respectful email that shows the 25 orders ready to go, then that will make his life easier and he can say yay or nay. If he says nay, then nobody is any worse off than they are right now, and if he says yay then everyone wins!

 

Denny said he will keep Annabeth open longer, but there's currently 11-12 taken, so would need at least 14 more, if I do a Group Order would there be interest?

You'd have to have not sent your order to Denny directly as it would cause some confusion otherwise.

 

I'm still interested in getting an Annabeth if there were to be a GO opened for her I joined the US GO (which was already placed I believe) but I don't mind joining another GO if it means getting another DIM head, especially if its going to be open for a while until we reach 25 :3

 

Is 11/12 BEFORE or AFTER the orders were resumed to regular ones ? Cause as it is, I forfeited mines and so did the US GO ?

 

That's AFTER people from the GOs backed out and only opted for the three initial heads.

 

I just heard back from Denny and it's good news!

"I will surely wait for other models to be reached to minimum order. Dont worry. Time is no matter."

I'd say we should definitely try to reach 25pc at least for Annabeth. But maybe for other sculpts too since time doesn't matter!

 

Is Denny slowly coming back to dolls? Lol jk, I’m super happy he is considering other sculpts with more leeway I’ll have to email him later and ask if any SD sized heads had any requests (unless anyone here already asked?)

 

His email says he is retiring entirely so I doubt it.

I am in quite a problematic situation now…
If we can get Annabeth she is a grail of mine but since I have paid for my alternate order, I no longer have the funds….

 

This is very very kind of him, if he is serious!

I think other sculpts may still be much harder, and in general one of the things that held other sculpts back was that he only publicly announced three. Many folk aren’t active on DOA, so they saw the three names, assumed that was it, and either made an order or didn’t.

This is why I think a sculpt-specific GO is necessary, to draw attention to Annabeth (or whoever) solely.

If someone does one for Gayane, let me know…

Ok, I'm going to see if I can sort out a GO for Annabeth. After Annabeth I'll be happy to take on other heads. I'll have to do a poll to see which would be the best to do.

NGL I'm anxious as I haven't been invoiced for Laia (and I added an Ace as well). I'm also gonna open my GO on Instagram, just a bit concerned as it hasn't been approved yet and would like to get some interest going asap.

Well, seems like there is some interest for Trisha, however, I don't know if it'd get us to 25pc. It might be worth it sharing the info among the Blythe folks if anyone is up to it.

 

I've asked the mods about the GO, just waiting for a response now. Denny still hasn't sent me an invoice for my Laia and Ace order. Really hope I haven't missed out on them.

 

I haven't been invoiced on Laia and Larina yet either, but Denny asked for my PayPal and confirmed that he got it....

When you reach your 15, I’ll email Denny for a single person order for Annabeth as well (unless someone makes a USA GO ). I’m currently waiting to hear back from him regarding left over SD heads

I see depending on how well this Annabeth order is, you’re thinking of doing a Bellosse and Kassia GO? I’d totally be down for a Bellosse head… maybe Leonora if she popular enough Dang I wish I can have all those DIM vampire girls

 

Leonora is my grail but I would be more than happy to get any of the vampire girls and Annabeth too. I'm based in the US so I'll watch the GO and place an order after we reach 15.
