Dikadoll Kid Discussion part 1

Im glad they aren't overly slim. And the 7-8 head size is also reassuring. While my two Volks SDCs are technically slimmer, they fit in OK with my normal MSDs. None of my other slim minis do, so they're going to go.

I was also interested in whether the new body (Ver. II) was slim or not. The measurements between the two versions on Alice's Collections seem to indicate to me that the Ver. II body is not actually slim, either, unless a cm here and there is really all the difference there is. I like the aesthetics of both bodies, so if they are both standard MSD size, I will need to take some time to choose which one I prefer. Ver. II definitely has a little more maturity to it. Do I want Rose to be a little older or younger? Hmm..

I guess the debate is moot if the Ver. II body is indeed a slim MSD body. But at this point, based on the measurements I see, I have my doubts about that.

Also worth noting, the new Luts KDF girl body seems to find its measurements in all categories somewhere in between these two.

I guess I should also note, I consider Slim MSD dolls to have size 6-7 heads, rather than 7-8. So perhaps that is throwing me off as well? That is probably not a true correlation that I should make, but the main thing that started my turn away from slim MSDs was the difference in head size. They just didn't look compatible with my 7-8 MSDs.

Can I also say, I love the look of the Ver. I body in your photo? She looks so natural and relaxed in her pose. No stiffness at all. That is so hard to find, IMO.

 

I didn't realize Rose was a new sculpt. I saw her picture some time last week and I thought it was just the 5A sculpt on the new body and with a more mature faceup... I really want to see a blank picture to confirm I'm wrong.

 

I can def' see a similarity. I just saw the two were posted separately on Dikadoll's main site and that their heads are available without body (no pictures yet, though). I went ahead and sent an inquiry so folks can know for sure. Will post a reply when I receive confirmation.

ETA: Dikadoll confirmed that both Rose and Canary are the same head. Both also match the AAAAA head.

I find this super weird. I know and own dolls from companies such as Soom who release two sculpt names for the same mold (IE: Pyrol and Minette, Serin and Rico, etc.) but last I checked Dikadoll had both male and female promo photos for AAAAA. Why the rehash years later? And what's even more confusing to me, why the DUEL rehash of Rose and Canary at the same time???

Oh well. At least folks will know for sure now.

 

Thanks!! It's not unheard of for a company to release the same head under two different names (i.e. Spiritdoll's Snowdrop/Pyrus) but it's good to make sure.

 

Just looking at pictures I thought it was weird to do AAAAA heads on different bodies but at the same time if i can get them on the new body i might make twins (different skin tones)

 

That's weeeeeeird. I mean, I was planning to get 5A on the new body at some point so this just makes it a bit more straightforward, but... why. They literally have the same sculpt under three different names now. If they wanted to offer different faceups nothing was stopping them from offering faceups A, B, and C all under the 5A listing.

 

Totally agree. It's just going to confuse folks, me thinks... at least that's my concern.

And some dealers (like Alice's Collections) offer a drop-down box for customers to choose old or new body on their other girl sculpts. So, like you said... why??? It's all very weird.

Thanks for bringing the whole idea up. I wouldn't have thought to ask for clarification otherwise. I saw similarities but never dreamed they would be the same.

 

That is a bit baffling as to why the are calling the same head three names.

I just sent my Rena out to get her faceup. It will be nice to have her completed finally.

 

So, Rose is AAAAA? Welp, I wanted 5A anyway, so I guess it works out. Hah. Good eye!

Hoping to order her at some point, but since the sale is only for the Ver I body, I may wait. I am not sure which body I want yet, and I don't think $20 is enough to sway me one way or the other.

@PeppermintPocky - Fate indeed! Now to work out where she'll fit into my buying "schedule". Haha. I already have my next two doll orders planned out, so the next several months are out. Maybe next spring? She's just so sweet..

 

I got my Rena back!
Since it will be a while before I get around to taking photos myself (got a major costume project I am working on as well as a few car repairs I am going to try to do myself to save the labor charges), I asked Tsuminaki if I could post the photos she sent me.



I love how she turned out!!

 

She is absolutely stunning! I love her white lower lashes and eyebrows, especially! Will she be keeping the red eyes? They look gorgeous against her grey resin!

She will be keeping the eyes for the foreseeable future. I might get her some all red Mako eyes eventually, but these eyes work quite nicely for being so inexpensive.

 

I've been waiting for Dikadoll to update their mini body for years, and I'm elated to finally see a new one. I'm kinda smitten with Miriam, too. If anyone here decides to go for the type 2 body, I'd appreciate a comparison between the two, because I'm very curious about how clothing fits.

 

I am of a similar mind to @Selenae . Miriam or Rose are who I am considering, but would love to see the new body option.

 

I'm seeing two new releases from Dika Not huge on the company face ups, but the blank sculpts seem interesting!

Now it's going to be a bit harder to choose which girl to get for my first Dika.

But there seems to be a misprint on Legenddoll's website. Anna and Luna are both listed as 1/4 for $210, but while scanning thru the pics of both girls something felt... off. I could tell just by looking that both dolls looked like they were different scales, then after staring pretty hard I could see that Anna had different legs then Luna, and Anna's longer fingers were a dead give away. So I went over to Dikadoll IDreamDoll Taobao and surprising enough not only are they different sizes, their in completely different ranges with Anna being 1/3 and Luna being 1/4. But regardless, they're both exceptionally beautiful and I can definitely make room on my wishlist for these beauties.

 

Good catch, I was just about to ask. I'm afraid I'm way more interested in Luna's outfit than either doll, though.

Dikadolls doll's are so lovely. These new dolls are too. I just kinda want all of them? But I fell in love with Peony Lion/Mudan as soon as I laid eyes on her. I'm paying off her final layaway payment tomorrow and am so excited for her adorableness to arrive.

 

Congrats on finishing your layaway! Mudan is a thing of true beauty! There aren't a ton of owner photos of her and even fewer if you dig thru international forums so I hope you'll be able to post lots of pics of your darling girl when she arrives!!

 

Haha I'll try. The lack of pictures of her is a sin. I could only find a few, but thankfully her company photos were beautiful and sold mme on her.

 

Do these dolls have a chemical smell? I'm thinking of getting a Dika Doll kid for my first doll. I love the look of BJDs but, I have read that the resin from some companies has a chemical smell so I'm worried about inhaling that.

 

Yes, fresh resin initially has a very strong smell to it. It'll fade in a few days or so, and most collectors aren't too bothered by it. However, if you're concerned about inhaling resin fumes, then I suggest unboxing your doll asap, and leaving it naked in a very dark room safe from pets/people so it can air out for a bit.

Would anyone be in the position to do a color comparison of Dikadoll to other companies with pinkish resin, like Angell-Studio's Solid Pink, MK's pink normal, or AE/Xaga NS?

I am in love with Miriam, but I am not sure if I want a Dika body, or not.

Those of you who have Dika bodies - how do they pose? Can your dolls stand solidly, and balance well, on foot-and-toe, or one-footed?

This is an old comparison I made a year or so ago. The batches aren't all new but hopefully it'll help you some.

Mystic Kids NS-Pink is way pinker than DikaDoll's, at least the batch I received.

 

I haven't shared my Rory in a LONG time, he's my aaaaa in pink.

can someon help me to find a good resin match for dika doll normal pink skin? I have a rena elf head that needs a more mature body.

 

@moon_flower Dika and 2Ddoll are cast by the same company, so their resin colors are identical. I'm hoping my planned hybrids will go well. Other than that, I've seen a Dika/Islanddoll hybrid that looked perfect, but all of the other resin comparisons I've seen were from 2014 and before, so I'm not sure if they'd still be relevant. You could check out PeppermintPocky's comparison photo that was linked upthread. If it's any help, you'd be better off with a body from a Chinese company, because their colors tend to match more. Does anyone own the girl Ver. || body? I'd like to know if that body is double jointed.

 

Mine is a version 2, the elbows are double jointed but the knees act like single jointed and have limited flexibility. (The upper body movement is good but the lower body lacks a lower body joint and movement is very limited in the hip and knee area. the doll stands well but looks ungainly/difficult to pose naturally when sitting ^^)

Does anyone have the "Yolanda Half-Closed Eyes" sculpt? I've had my eyes on her for a while now, but haven't found any owner pictures. She looks like such a brat, haha!

 

I'd love to see some owner pictures too, I've also had my eye on that sculpt!

 

Since posting I've found a lead on owner pics! If you google image search her name in Chinese (DK半眠尤莲达) there are some really pretty faceup shots. I love how cheeky she looks in the company photos, but it looks like she can pull off a sweeter look really well too.

That sealed the deal for me -- I ordered her last week, and I've heard they have a very fast production time (1-2 months), so hopefully I can share pics soon too!

Your Mariam!! That's a terrific faceup and you have given her such sweet styling. I ordered the same sculpt in gray and with company faceup. She just arrived and.. I'll just say, I have some regrets.. there's not many owner pics to go on when it comes to Mariam OR Dika's gray. The product which arrived is.. interesting..
Yours, however, is gorgeous!!

 

What did you find off putting. I got a grey Rena and I love how her color came out. I did request for her not to be sanded to minimize marbling, and aside from a few small spots, her color is fairly even for such a dark resin color.

I am interested to see what colors they use on the grey faceup.

 

The resin color is blueish. I didn't find any warning to expect blue-gray rather than gray-gray, so I think I just have to get over the shock of her looking like a blueberry. I hope it doesn't "mellow" or yellow to the point of khaki. Maybe I can get used to her being blue.. but I'm concerned she may be doomed to become swamp-mud green.

The neck and torso joints got rubbed during shipping in some places where they didn't pad her. These shiny damaged spots really show up in this dark gray.

The worst part though is the faceup. The linework is neatly done, but the colors are pretty awful. You can see here:

after I changed out the eyes,
which helped her look a lot better. The eyelashes fell right off when I put the new eyes in (taking some paint with them) and thankfully her wig covers those neon orange eyebrows. The first photo is a bit washed out and doesn't capture the richness of the orange, blue, and pink, but the "after" picture captures the resin color pretty accurately.

I hate to think I wasted their time and my money, but I'm really unhappy with the colors, especially those orange eyebrows, hot pink eyelashes, and pink rings around the eyes that makes her look sickly or like she has been crying. My mistake for assuming they would adjust the color palette to look good on the resin color like every other company I have ordered from.

Not sure what to do. I wanted her since the first announcement of her release, and I am excited to have her and really like the Ver2 body, but this faceup bums me out. I'll post a better introduction pic and link to the full review once I have my thoughts sorted out.
