Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup?

Dec 16, 2013

    1. I had gotten a sweet little tiny head to do a faceup an and she was my project girl so I didn't mind. When I bought a full doll I loved the factory face up (and it was a yosd boy so I wanted a more natural look) and I don't regret it at all. I would get a practice head and you will feel strongly one way or another when you try it for yourself :)

    2. Yes.

    3. I bought the fullset for my first doll, so he came with the faceup, the clothes, accessories, etc. My second doll was a blank canvas that I had someone else to the faceup for.

    4. I purchased my first doll with a face-up. That wasn't my original plan, I actually wanted to commission an artist but I ended up loving the original so much.

    5. Nope! Doing the faceup is such a huge part of making a doll feel "mine" that I wanted to do it myself.

    6. Yea, I feel the same. I wanted to do the face up for my very first doll but was scared that I will screw it up so I ended buying the factory make-up. I have been practising face ups with Monster High doll...I am still not at the point where I am confident to start doing it on my BJD. But I do hope soon, I will after all it's cheaper to buy blank ones.

    7. My first doll came with a face up and she still has it on today! It suits her character!

    8. I got my first with a face-up because I wanted my first experience with a bjd to be a positive one. I was kind of on the fence about spending so much on a doll, so I opted for the "full set" so that I had a complete doll for the 1st. I can be a perfectionist and if that first doll had a bad 1st face-up or sat around blank, I was afraid I'd get buyer remorse. Glad I made that decision. Now I feel more confident about painting my own!

    9. My first doll was bought secondhand with a custom face-up. It was definitely nice because at the time I joined the hobby I didn't know the reputation of any face-up artists in the community and I still don't have the confidence to do my own face-ups. Maybe once I get an event head or something I'll attempt it.

    10. I bought my first doll with no faceup (because it's cheaper) and 8 years later I still think it was a mistake. Since my mother is really good at painting and very creative, I was hoping that she would do the faceup, but after failing twice (it wasn't a bad faceup but it wasn't perfect) she gave up and told me to try it myself. I didn't want to, I was too young and scared to try, so I quickly lost all interest in my doll because she wasn't as pretty as the BJDs I've seen online. It took me 8 years to finally get her out of the box and just TRY to do it. And know what, I actually really liked it! And I was better then I thought I would!

    11. My first doll was a Doll Leaves R and he came with his face up even though I was never a huge fan of it, I still haven't been able to get his face to satisfy me like six years later lol

    12. I ordered my doll blank because I knew for a fact that I wanted to do the face up myself. I had previously practiced on a monster high and a Blythe so I felt pretty ok when she arrived.

    13. All my first three dolls are ordered with faceup.

    14. Yeah! I ended up falling in love at a convention with the little fellow and bought him with the company face-up. I think it's had me go to being more inclined to order company face-ups for sure, though I am trying a couple on my own.

    15. My first 1/3 scale doll was second-hand and totally blank. I don't think I had a ton in mind for her at the time-- it wasn't like I had a certain vision that I was trying to adhere to. I had done faceups on a few 1/6 scale Obitsus prior to owning this doll, and so I had juuuust enough experience to feel sort of confident that I'd be able to give her a decent face.

    16. the first doll I got had a faceup but I added a few things to it to fit her character.

    17. Yes i order my dolls with face up if possible. since I am isually undecided what I want them to look like. I will have them with default make -up and will dwcide later on if im going to change it or not [IMG]

    18. My first doll will be coming with a blank faceup as I really want to attempt to learn and do her faceup myself. And if that really doesn't work I can always send her to a professional for a custom one! More options imo.

    19. Yes, my dolls so far all have company face ups, one standard and one custom. My next planned order will be sent off for a faceup though. Company faceups are nice, since you have a great idea what you are getting when you order.

    20. My first one I ordered with face and body up. It was nice but they didn't do a super great job.. I don't feel I am good enough at it to do my own.

    21. yes, a default faceup that I did not want and the company gave it to me, anyway,
which made it difficult to remove, because I felt guilty wiping it, lol.
I order blank dolls because I prefer to give them faceups myself, although there have been some company faceups that I thought were very cute.

    22. None of my dolls have come with a face-up. There are times I do wish they had because it takes me so long to complete their faces on my own, though I do really enjoy doing it myself.

    23. My first doll came with her original face-up which I really liked. I don't know how to do face-ups myself, so that wasn't an option for me at the time. :)

    24. mine came with face up option.

    25. I had mine come in without a faceup....still waiting for some new chalk pastels before I can do her faceup though, ebay is slow sometimes! XD

    26. My first doll came with her default face-up. After 8 years, she still keeps it.

    27. I plan on ordering my first doll with the face-up. I'm not a big fan of the blank-face look.

    28. I ordered a face up from the company for my first doll (just because I knew i wouldn't have the money to send him off to get him a face up from another artist) and I wanted to enjoy him for a bit before I get the face up i want for him.

    29. I get my first doll with faceup, and so do my second and third and forth fifth doll. After sometime I want to do it myself, so I ordered some blank dolls, but also nervous to start. Anyhow I nerver send them out to a faceup artist.

    30. My first will be coming without a face, period. XP

But when I do find the right head for her, I'm probably going to be doing the faceup myself, just due to the particulars of the character I'm shelling (and also because it's highly likely I'm going to end up having to paint and/or pastel it to match the color of the body anyway).

    31. She's not here yet, but my first doll will come with a faceup. I'm still new to painting in general, so it just makes sense to take the safe option this time.

    32. My girl will come with a faceup which I did change a little but I doubt Id be happy with something Id do now.

    33. My first doll is my shaun from souldoll and he come with the default faceup.
Actually I make the makeup of my doll !

    34. I only have one bjd but without company faceup. I don't intend to order any doll with default faceup in the future. To me, it's more fun to create the look for my own dolls.

    35. I like doing faceups myself, so I always order them without when possible--saves the hassle of removing an existing one and the sad feeling of destroying another artist's work.

      My last two dolls got company faceups anyway, though. The most recent was only available as a fullset, including faceup, but it's a cute style and nice quality so I don't have plans to remove it. The other actually was ordered blank, but showed up with a faceup anyway... the whole batch was super delayed (took 6 months instead of the promised 2-3), so I don't know if the artist just got flustered or confused and painted all of them or if it was meant to be some sort of "sorry for the wait" gift? They didn't charge me extra, so no real harm done, but it was neither a style I liked (too grumpy/sad) nor particularly high-quality work, so if it were meant as a "gift" I wish they would have asked first to save us both time and effort on painting/removing. ^^;

    36. My first FOUR dolls came with faceups. I realized pretty quickly that I wanted to do my own, so nowadays I only buy blank if I can help it.

    37. My first bjd did not come with a faceup and I did it myself. I absolutely loved doing it myself. Now my second bjd is coming with a factory faceup but I plan on getting a separate head to practice faceups on.

    38. My first bjd did not come with a face up. She still does not have a face up 6 months later. I'm having difficulty finding a mask that fits, so I will probably send her out to an artist to do the face up. My second one, I bought second hand & she did come with a face up.

    39. Yes it did :D since ive no idea how to do it before so i made sure that my 1st doll had a faceup tho i removed after a few weeks cuz i did not like it :)

    40. I just ordered my first bjd and I'm getting faceup and body blushing done by the artist. Their faceup is one of the reasons I feel in love with the dolls to begin with, so I had no hesitation there.

    41. Third doll is coming without one...so practicing up to give it a go this time...while it may not be the faceup that sticks around, I always believe you can give things a try. I generally never order outfits since sewing is my specialty. I can always cover naked dolls once I have them in hand! hehehehe

    42. I ordered my first doll blank so I can do the faceup myself ^^ but I'm an artist so that's what interested me the most about getting a doll

    43. My first doll had a face and I wiped it and gave him a faceup. It looked pretty okay???? But I prefer to get a real professional to do my faceups now, just easier for me.
