Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup?

Dec 16, 2013

    1. No, she didnt because i bought her from Thinkpink at an animeconvention and really wanted to take her home that day. After a few failed face up attempts i'm pretty happy with how she looks now.

    2. I got my first doll second hand and she came in almost mint condition, so she was pretty much nude when I received her. I'm planning on sending her to an artist for a faceup. I don't know how to put make up on myself so I feel like I wouldn't be able to properly apply the techniques on my doll. And I definitely don't want to make any mistakes and ruin her either ;;;; v ;;;;

    3. my first doll didnt come with a faceup... nor did i know what a faceup was... but most every doll after her DID come with a faceup. Plus after months of trying to make a faceup look natural and sell-able.. I sold my first doll with my first faceup..

    4. I got my first doll with the company face-up!
I didn't want to have my first doll be barefaced and mess his face-up up not knowing how to do it yet.

    5. Yes, I order all my dolls with a company face-up as i'm not interested in doing face-ups myself (I have no space at home). Whenever I want a change I can just send the doll off for a fresh face-up as there are so many people out there that offer wonderful face-up services. None of the face-ups they have come with have been bad, if anything, it's usually just the eyelashes that arrive a little misshapen. These are easily replaced although it can be rather fiddly when gluing them in.

    6. I got my first doll without face-up, and second too, because it is Dollshe. But it's good, now my boys have such face as I want =)

    7. I am ordering my first doll with company face up cause the company's face up is so pretty and lovely!

    8. I ordered my first doll with a face-up because I would know what I would want for a girl and I'm an artist so it would be no big deal but I got a boy and I had no Idea what I would've wanted for a boy or to even go about it. So, I just ordered him with a face-up.

    9. Yes, I would definitely get a company face up, because as much as I would love to do it myself, I just don't have the confidence and the tools and materials needed to create face up. Maybe I will get into it one day...but for now, I am satisfied with company face up.

    10. My first, and only at present, came from DollsTown who don't offer a face-up option so I had no choice but to receive her bare faced. While she was on order I arranged with a face-up artist to do the work and her head is currently with the artist. Really really looking forward to seeing her return. I do have artistic skills and could possibly do my own but I wouldn't.t like to have my first doll be my learning curve, tooo risky.

    11. Without. I really wanted to try out doing it myself. That was one of the reasons I choose this specific doll/head as my first. She looks good without face-up, and has nice "guidelines" to follow whilst doing one.

    12. I thought about it, but since it was my first and I wasn't so sure if I would really invest in the hobby. So I decided to save the money. I sort of wish I did though because I'm not very talented and her white skin is sort of off putting. LOL

    13. My first dolls I got without a face up, and then did my own. It was fun, but I learned over time I wanted to stick to my 2D canvases! xD This time I'm getting company faceups. : D

    14. yes!
      I ordered a AOD-mengli with company face up :3
and....last year i removed it and did my own! It was fun!!!:D

    15. my first doll is a resinsoul ya... she came with a face up... but i find it too dark for my liking.... so i change it after a month

    16. My 1st one had a faceup from the owner I traded with, but my official one I bought, David K needed one!

    17. My first doll is coming in a few weeks and she will be blank. I want to do the face up myself, I have a very specific idea of what I want :XD:

    18. my first doll didn't have the option of coming with a faceup, so she's blank. I'm going to send her head to an artist soon, as soon as I have the funds. I'm not really confident enough in my artistic skills to try a faceup myself.

    19. Yes I bought my doll from a seller off of ebay several years ago and still have her. I wish I wasn't talked into getting a different body for her. I still love her today and wouldn't sell her for no money in the world.

    20. I don't have her quite yet, but I ordered my first doll with a faceup. I love the look they gave her in the pictures, and this way she can just be ready to go immediately when I get her. I'm sure I'd like to learn to do faceups at some point, but having my first doll come with one seemed like the easiest option.

    21. When I ordered my Doll Chateau Cyril I went with the extra option of having them give him a faceup. To be honest I was somewhat disappointed. There was just a bit of peach blushing around the lip and eye crease and not much else. He still looked blank, LOL. Money not well spent, imho. However with my second doll I was much happier with the faceup. Lots of blush and shimmer and she was simply adorable.

    22. First doll ever? No.
First resin doll? Yes. I have 4 Resin bjds that I all ordered with company face-ups or that came used with company face-ups.
I'm actually a bit nervous because the next 4 dolls I'm getting, I'll have to send out for custom face-ups for the first time.

    23. Yes he did. I bought him second hand and he had a very cute face up made by the previous owner.
But I wiped it off. I've always wanted to paint my dolls myself, it gives me really a chance to bond with them.

    24. I ordered without a faceup :) since I plan to do things the hard way and learn to paint faceups myself. However, it didn't help that I wasn't a fan of the company's faceup.

    25. Yep, he had a faceup. I was too nervous about messing up my first doll!

    26. I bought my first doll second hand so she already had a face up but, if/when I buy another one, I would definitely buy a blank doll as I prefer the idea of doing a completely personalised faceup and it's just easier to get it without the hassle of removing the faceup it came with (in my opinion).

    27. Blank! I had looked at tons of company faceups before I ever placed any orders, so I knew already that I was not a fan of any of the company ones I had seen (besides LE releases). So I knew that I would definitely rather customize my dolls to my own taste. I do not have the talent to do it myself haha so I leave that to the experts!

    28. Yes, my daughter and I both bought our first dolls the end of 2011 and neither of us would have thought to try doing our own faceups. Since then my daughter has done some and she can be pretty good if she feels inspired. Me, on the other hand, still do not feel quite capable to try one, so mostly I order "with" faceups.

    29. I didn't have the company face up with my first doll, because I want a different style. So, I sent him to my friend whom is a professional face up artist instead.

    30. I've only just bought my first doll a couple of weeks ago and I ordered her without a faceup!! :aeyepop: I really want to try painting her face myself, even if it doesn't turn out perfectly the first time, I just feel like it will be so much more personal that way :)

    31. Heck yes! I don't have a space where I can safely seal a faceup (really really tiny dorm room) although I would like to try in the future. I've repainted very simple features on vinyl dolls and they've been decent enough. I love my girl's company faceup, though, it's very sweet and suits her well.

    32. I ordered my boy blank ^___^ as much as I liked the default company faceup, his eyebrows were way too dark for the look I had in mind... and I also felt they were giving him too much of a frown, which wasn't very fitting for the light-hearted/fun personality he was supposed to have. While I was waiting for him to come home, I practiced on vinyl dolls just to make sure I wouldn't mess up on him. I was really insecure about painting him myself, but so far I'm pretty satisfied with the final result :D

    33. Yep, I ordered him with the company face up since I felt that I could not possibly be able to give him a beautiful face up with my current level. I hope to practice more and be able to do my own dolls' face ups and touch ups!

    34. My first doll was a volks msd kit, so I had to sand, string, and do the face-up. I am terrible at face-ups however and much prefer now to buy dolls that already have them.

    35. Nope. I like painting other miniature objects, so why not my first BJD? :D It's a different aesthetic than I'm used to, but that's half the fun!

    36. Yes and I kept it for 2 years...Now I do face up for them by myself.

    37. With company face-up. I guess I wanted to have the full experience right out of the box and I knew it would take me a while to collect the supplies/gather information to do a face-up.

    38. After deciding that I did like Bjds got a fullset. At that time I liked the idea of getting a doll already with clothes, shoes and a face-up.

    39. All of my dolls have the company face-ups, i can't do adult make-up.

    40. My first one came blank, partly because DDE had her in stock and I did not want to wait that long for her. I also wanted to try my hand at face-ups, the only thing I found hard was the fact that she is a pukipuki and and I can't do eyebrows to save my life lol.

    41. Nope, I got my first doll without faceup. I did the faceup myself and I was not pro :sweat

    42. Yeah my first BJD came with faceup, but she was second hand and have some problem :vein
She is not with me since the time!
It was a pukipuki Ante, and she is soooo little for me, I did not know the existing models, finally I hate the ante haha :sweat

    43. I bought my doll secondhand and he had a face up with super glue and classy on his nose. I've managed to get almost all of it off and I'm gonna see about doing a new faceup myself

    44. Yes, my first doll came with faceup and full set. That days I know nothing about bjd and fell in love with his promo photos :love
Seven years has passed and he is still with me :whee:

    45. My first doll was a dollfie dream her head was DDH-05 with a limited edition faceup I got super cheap when the volks USA store was closing down.

    46. My first doll is coming with a faceup, but that wasn't my plan initially.

My original plan was to order a blank Fairyland Minifee, but then Sircca was released and I had to have the Pegasus wings which only come with the fullset, and the fullset automatically comes with a faceup. I wanted the sleeping face to match the open eyed face, so I payed for that to be painted as well.

Her default makeup is beautiful, but to be honest I'm kind of worried that her lack of uniqueness will cause me to not bond with her well :sweat However, I am getting an elf head and an event head, so I'll be able to customize those at least. And to be fair, it will probably feel nice to have a complete doll straight out of the box for my first.

    47. I ordered my first doll with a faceup, I didn't have the confidence to do it myself and potentially mess up my dolls face.

    48. Yes I got my first doll a face up and it's perfect :D no regrets. But I was also wondering the same like I want to try doing face-ups and luckily the company had a campaign at the same time so I could get an extra head for really cheap!

    49. Have just gotten my first doll, and attempted her first face up, I'm really glad I got her blank.

For me the craft side of the hobby is the reason for owning her. It was a very enjoyable process, despite not getting things right straight away, after much hard work, finishing with something you're happy with is so rewarding.

    50. My first doll came with faceup. To be honest I wasn't really intending to get him with faceup but then DOD was having a promotion when I was about to order so he came with free faceup LOL. I didn't even realize they had a promotion until they pointed it out to me while I was asking them about other stuff on their Q&A board. :XD:

    51. Yes, my first doll came with default faceup. But soon l realized it was not enough realistic and won't fit character. So I repainted it)

    52. My first doll was second hand with a faceup. I planed to wipe him clean and do my own work on him, but once he arrived and I saw his faceup in person, it was so perfect. There was so much detail that was missed in the photos I was sent. Sadly he had a scuffed nose, but after much searching, i was able to find the original face up artist and he made me a deal on a full redo. The redo happened after I had the doll for about 2 years. He is a DZ Cosmo with a faceup by Chi No Tenshi Aesthetics.

    53. I didn't order my first doll with a faceup because I would rather do it myself, and transform them into the character that I choose.

    54. My first bjd came with a beautiful artist face-up. I never changed a thing.

    55. My first doll will be coming without a face-up~ I plan on doing it myself. If I do end up getting a face-up commissioned I hope to catch the lovely Andreja when commissions are open~!

    56. My first doll was fullset (includes make up) аnd I don't regret it:lol: Then I know nothing about customization and
really afraid to spoil the first impression about doll.

    57. I bought my first doll directly from Iplehouse with a factory faceup. The option I chose was perfect for the character I planned to shell. It's so pretty that I can't imagine ever changing it.

    58. Yes. She was a RS Bei and came with the company face up. The second, a Leek world Honey, to. I could at first not imagine how a doll would look like if there was no face up. My third came without :)

    59. I buy all my dolls fullset, I don't know how to paint adult faces. I work on unmentional dolls, and they are usually little girl or babies, but I did buy a practise head once, it looked like it had a baby face with an adult body, so I rather buy for the doll to come complete.

    60. My first doll was a blythe so yes she came with a faceup. When I get my first bjd though, I'd like it to come without a faceup so I can get a custom one put on c:
