Cutting shins (shortening mod)

Feb 19, 2026

    1. Hi there, I was wondering if there is a way to shorten the legs of a doll by just cutting of the lowest part of the shin? If so, how would I go about it?:)

I have an ANS59 body and the lower legs (shins) are too long for my taste. The feet are currently longer than her butt when she is kneeling. Has anybody tried this? Not like cutting out a part and regluing the two leg pieces, but completely removing a bit. I looked at other shortening threads but haven't found one doing exactly that. But please let me know if there is one:sweat

      Thanks!

    2. well part of the challemnge you'll have with just cutting off the bottom of the shin is thats where the ankle joint is, so you'd need to resculpt the joint there which has a few challenges like colour matching a high abrasion area and getting them even so shes isn't lop sided and will still stand/pose

    3. This is also my problem with a doll body... I dislike the unrealistic proportions. I couldn't really tell in images but in person the long leg weirdness is very off putting.

I wonder if you could cut out a middle part of the shin, retaining the ankle joint, and attach the ankle joint to the shortened shin?

    4. I shortened one doll's legs when I made a fantasy dwarf character. I got lucky that the lower parts of the shins were just a tube, so all I did was cut around 3cm off and carve in the "receiver" part of the joint, so I didn't need to sculpt anything. It's totally possible, but make sure the feet still fit =D

    5. Hi! I do that exact mod on a body I have on this thread here: vidania

    6. Yeah, I am also thinking about how I would cut it in the first place: hand saw or maybe machine? After all it is kind of important that the legs are the same length:XD:Color matching or resculpting isn't something I am worried about, as the feet would most likely sit nicely on the new position.

@Quenthel Awesome!! Really am thinking of doing it:whee:Will need to gather the necessary supplies and guides first though. And while I am at it I will think about who else might need a little leg surgery:sneaky

    7. I just want to say good luck and... I feel your pain, I wish doll sculptors learned that while a slightly longer shank is attractive that doesn't mean you can just extend it ad infinitum. It gets ridiculous on otherwise well-sculpted bodies. As vulpes said, the major problem is reshaping the cut so the foot joint can sit properly against the ankle, without making the resin too thin.
