Description Welcome to the 15th anniversary celebration customization contest! This year our theme comes first from the traditional wedding anniversary gift: crystal. The first thought that may come to mind is the beautiful geometrically cut crystal glassware you might have seen in your grandmother's house, or a local antique store. But actual crystals are something else entirely. A crystal, by definition is any solid material with component parts so highly organized that they create a crystal lattice. And these crystals can be widely varied, from diamonds, to snowflakes, to common table salt. Crystals have so much purpose and significance in many people's lives, from use as fashion items in jewelry, to tools for certain healing arts and spirituality. We hope that you will become inspired by whatever you imagine when you think of the word "crystal" and look forward to seeing your most creative entries! Prizes Meeksdoll blank Vano head in buff resin Migidoll blank Ell head in NS Conarium Anming head in NS Materials You may use any materials for this customization however, you must use both: Something which adds 3D texture Something shiny or reflective Designs can be executed in any medium in addition to the required supplies. Rules You may create one entry on one doll or doll head. Entries can be any combination of faceups, tattoos/ body blushing and/or modification. Entries can be just heads without bodies. Every entry must include a head, even if all the work is done on the body. The entry must have been created specifically for this contest. Faceups, tattoos and body blushing should be done on a blank doll. Doll with prior extreme modifications may not be used. Dolls with very small modifications (like an eye opening or closing, slight facial restructuring, or drilled piercings) are allowed. Minimal use of photo editing, please. Only resizing, cropping, and minor adjustments to color and lighting (to reflect the actual appearance) are allowed. No posting entries or other photos that are recognizably from the same photo shoot until after the customization contest is closed. Describing your in-process or finished faceup or posting pictures before the end of the contest (whether on DoA or on outside blogs, forums, etc.) will result in disqualification. Watermarks or signatures on the photos are not allowed. Your photos should showcase only the work you have done. They should not include other dolls, props, or sets. Doll heads may be photographed using eyes and a wig. IMPORTANT: Describing your entries, posting photos, revealing your alias, or soliciting votes (either on DoA or on offsite blogs or forums) before the contest has closed will result in disqualification. All entries must also meet the general anniversary contest rules and eligibility requirements. How to Enter You will need to provide the following photos: Three photos of the design from different angles, showing the design clearly and uncovered. One photo of all the materials used, including proper respiratory protection (very important, please be safe!). Everything should be clearly visible. If you are new to faceup and customization, please check the Respiratory Protection thread. Photos must be submitted in JPG format, 800 pixels on the longest side. Oversized photos or photos sent in the wrong format will disqualify your entry. Do NOT submit your images as links. Please follow the directions on the entry form to insert your images. You will be uploading your images directly to DoA. If you are not sure about this, please view this short tutorial before submitting your entry. Click the link below to start a thread for your entry. Wow, that's a beautiful theme! Can't imagine how crreative the members will get here … Do you allow creating a face-up from other artist's fictional characters ?
@evie the kid it's okay to be inspired by fictional characters but your work should be unique and not a direct copy of someone else's visual concept.
Crappy winter weather pending, does "something which adds 3D texture" mean you have to sculpt on your additions, or can they be glued on?
@Quiet and Insane you can glue things on or sculpt them, or both, it's up to you. also keep in mind the 3d element can be large or very small. As long as it's there!
Cool thank you. My idea should work quite well then. If it ever decides to stop raining. Bah, winter.
Having thought I had no ideas (or heads!) that this would fit, a burst of inspiration struck while on a bus today! Fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow or over the weekend for me - winter is a pain for face ups!
There are just a few days left to enter this contest! We are really looking forward to seeing what everyone has created!
I just noticed the deadline is 21. instead of 20., yeeey! This thing is taking longer than I thought x)
Ok whoops I thought this went to the end of August. No way in heck am I gonna have anything done for tomorrow night. It's been way too hot and humid here. Can't wait to see everyone's entries, though!
It's not too late! I did mine all in one afternoon. It's hot and humid here too, but if the sealant ends up flaking or clouding over time I...kinda...don't care. This faceup turned out nice IMO, but it's not a style I'd ever want to keep. haha
@CloakedSchemer Hmm that's true. I work 2nd shift so afternoons aren't usually an option, but tomorrow is my day off... we shall see!
Congrats to everyone who was able to finish their entries! I sadly was not, but it's nice seeing what everyone else did.
Only 9 entries? I was hoping to see more, but on the other hand, it means everyone has a 1 in 3 chance of winning something! Beautiful entries, good job and good luck everyone!
@skyealloway and others who can't vote, what happens when you try? Do you try to vote get an error message? Or do you not see a poll, or does it not have selectable options?
@Shchel (or anyone with the issue) I made a change; is this still happening? If so, are you able to vote in this poll? /threads/the-great-log-branch.782304/ (Trying to see if the issue is with this specific poll, or all polls.)
Same here The "Which entry is your favourite" text is clickable but only takes me back to the thread which has a poll but no ability to vote.
I saw the "test" poll that popped up and was able to click an option. After submitting the choice, the option I picked got an asterisk next to it.
It already had a vote registered for me. I guess it must be the "test" poll that I already voted on and got renamed? I was able to change my vote and resubmit it
@Zardi That's probably the case then, as it was the same one. Seems like it works – if anyone else has trouble though, please post here!
I'm only seeing the option to vote for one entry, but there are three prizes? Will it just be based on the top three overall?
Yes, there will be a first, second and third place based only on quantities of votes and it's one vote per person this time.
Congrats to the faceup contest winners! (The voting results are visible now!) I didn’t win, but thank you to everyone who did vote for me, I appreciate you. ❤️ Mine was Crystal, the gold leaf lady.
Thank you to everyone who participated this year! The winners are congratulated in the first post. Winners: stand by, I will be contacting you shortly.
Wow! I'm floored that I got third place. Thank you for your votes! I've had a rough week and opening up my mail to see the message that I won third really picked me up! Again, thank you!
Congrats to the face-up winners and great job to other entries as well. Lots of amazing artists here.
I am so happy that I got second place I was so nervous because everyone had such amazing entries! Congratulations to everyone to won and who participated! You all had fantastic works!!
Omg! I won! Yeeeey! Thank you! Congratulations to the second and third place, and good job to everyone else as well! It was a really fun project to work on, but I didn't think I would ever win a competition here, so yeey!
Congrats to the winners and super job to everyone who entered. All of the entries were captivating. Xxxx
Yes congratulations to the winners and all the entrants. There might not have been as many entries as in previous years, but every single one was superb. Narrowing it down to vote was really tough.
Congrats to the winners, you all did fantastic! I had a great time competing this year and look forward to next year.
