    1. Briefly describe your entry's concept:
"Crystal" is a shy, innocent young woman with a strange affliction: gold leaf emerges from her pores, a tiny diamond falls from her tear duct and gemstones materialize in her ears. She loves helping others, surprising people and has a strong aversion to cameras and scientists. "Crystal" is inspired by the real life story of Katie, The Gold Leaf Lady.

    2. Briefly describe your entry's concept: I wanted to go with something akin to a crown of thorns; a crown of crystals. Ended up looking a little more statue-of-liberty than I intended but I'm pretty happy overall.

      Entry type: Face up

Materials used: Mr Super Clear UV Cut Flat, Mungyo soft pastels, white and silver pearl powders, Tamiya gloss, labradorite beads (used for eyes), nail art beads, watercolour paints, hot glue, quartz crystals, Mod Podge glue.

    3. Briefly describe your entry's concept: Born in a mountain cave, his body emulates his blue pearl granite environment until he is older and more capable of defending himself. As granite has quartz crystals in it, his skin is mottled as a natural camouflage against enemies. His tribe’s culture often includes the painting of golden designs on the body to ward off evil spirits and bring luck to the bearer.

Entry type: Face-up and body blushing

Materials used: LOTS of acrylic paint mixed with matt medium, sponged on. I used the brushes a little for his face and a little for touch-up work in spaces that didn't get sponged very well. I used gold temporary tattoos for a little extra shiny (I had already used iridescent acrylic paint on his eyelids!) and a little gem glued onto his forehead. I also used a tiny bit of black spray paint on his wings. MSC was used to seal.

    5. Briefly describe your entry's concept:
I was really inspired by the crystal logo for DoA's 15th Anniversary this year and thought the bunches of crystals in the logo would look neat as horns. That was my main objective and everything else was decided on around the horns to give her a very fantastical look.

      Entry type:
      Faceup with Modification (crystal horns)

      Materials used:
Citadel Minutorum Varnish, Milliput for the bony growth the crystals are in, various types of crystals, dental tools to sculpt the Milliput, glue for the crystals, soft pastels, makeup brushes, watercolour pencils, acrylic paint, matte fluid medium, Liquitex varnish, pearl powder, paint brushes and chain accents to make it look like her horns were pierced.
*I decided against the eyelashes in the materials photo.

    6. Briefly describe your entry's concept:

No. 83 on the Periodic Table of the Elements, bismuth crystallizes in stepped, uniform stalactites. The purest bismuth immediately oxidizes, or tarnishes, in a rainbow spectrum ...

"It's fitting that you chose me, isn't it?" he says, pointing out that bismuth, purportedly, aids with spiritual and emotional isolation. "Did you hope to alleviate your loneliness that way?"

A lab-created god branded by an opalescent stigma, he stands for the hope that everyone in a world such as ours can find somewhere to be loved and belong.

      Entry type: (faceup)

      Materials used:
      3M half-face respirator with 3M 6001 organic vapor cartridges and N95 prefilters
Zoukei-mura Finishing Powder Spray UV Cut
Liquitex Basics and Heavy Body acrylic paint
      Rembrandt pastels
      Tamiya X-22 Gloss
      Various brushes
      Bismuth crystal

    8. Briefly describe your entry's concept:
Inspired by the crystalline nature of snowflakes and frost, I designed this "Ice Queen" faceup, particularly keeping the texture of snow and frost in mind in creating the textures on the icy forehead details. I also wanted to give her a glossy sheen to give off that freshly melting snow appearance.

Entry type: (faceup, tattoo, body blushing, modification)
      Faceup

      Materials used:
Pearlex Powders, Army Painter Anti-Shine spray (base layers), gloss (MSC spray-on, Tamiya brush-on, Liquitex brush-on, Citadel brush-on), liquitex metallic silver paint, Martha Stewart metallic silver paint, "fake" snowflakes (crafting plastic bits), Tacky glue ("fake" snowflake application, first layers), Limino UV resin and UV light
