hey i dont know if someone already post something like this but you can get some eyes from porcelain dolls instead having to buy some
Trouble with the porcelain dolls is usually they are hotglued in so they are not usually worth salvaging
No problem, I think my next little tip/tutorial-snipplett would be how to change the 'whites' or base of the eyes to another color. (It takes a bit of sandpaper and paint really.)
I am soooooo glad I just came back for another look at this tutorial :-) I read this a little while ago and had a go at making some with the Pupapa D eye Y's and used (aargh!!!) nail polish! They are a bit cloudy :-( and I am so happy now that I know what to use to fix them. Thankyou soooo much for sharing this tutorial and for all the wonderful links to make some more!!! I can't wait to make some more now ;-) Thought I'd add a pic of the eyes I just made - really happy with the colour of them both. (my hujoo's are wearing them which I hope I am allowed to post - figured it would be ok since I am showing their eyes and not the dolls???)
Hello agian! I have posted a "Why you should use adhesive." Tip on Post #2 With Photos showing pairs of eyes with little to no adhesive, full adhesive and a littel tip on how to prevent air bubbles.
I made a couple printed eyes, and made a couple nail-polish eyes. I think they all came out pretty good =D! This is Talon, he belongs to SuviFay. His eyes are silver with green outline =D Talon's twin, Taern. He's mine. :3 Silver with red outline! =D Blurry picture of blurriness x.x Kaelie's got green and pink glitter with a black background done :3 You can sorttttt of see Kaelie's eyes better in this image. The larger eyes are for one that will be home soon-ish. =D Gold glitter with yellow and orange layered behind it. XD! I had fun. >>;;; Maybe too much fun.
Shtrdrngry Those eyes are utterly gorgeous! I love the Glitter-gold ones, so bright! it reminds me of a peach-sundae.
Thanks! =D I'm...having a loooot of fun with the glittery eyes. XD I'll prolly post them again once they're installed and whatnot - but that's still a couple weeks off.
I ordered some eyes to make various colored eyes for my fairyland multihead, but I ordered the wrong size so I just kind of played around with them. The eyes that I got did have pupils to begin with but they came off when removing the paint and I just left them without. I actually sold all of them except for the third pair down at a meetup I went to the other day, including a bright green pair that isn't pictured; but I still have some eyes leftover and may make more.
I couldn't get the blacks out of the eyes i have. o3o Iiiii can't wait for the ones you sent me to get here, Ellie! :cute::heart: (zomggaiahabitswiththeemotestharr) I really love the second and fourth pairs you made! o3o
Wow this tutorial is awesome! And all the pictures of everyone's eyes are great. I've made eyes using this method, but sadly I don't have any pics. I think I might order some DIY eyes to mess around with. I was wondering though..could someone make a tutorial on how to make the eye template to the right size in photoshop? I've tried, but sadly my skills are lacking..
Lynn Nexus : I used nail polish for all of my eyes. Most of them were shimmery and some of them were different polishes layered over eachother (except for the 3rd pair down which used a creame polish with a shimmer layered behind it but the shimmer didn't really show through) palartok : thank you very much ^_^
Thank you for this tutoriall! I can make my girl pretty eyes since they don't have any in the 12mm range
Now I can make eye's for my doll that are true to my origenal I idea's for her. It's been almost impossible to find a decent set for her.
New Update, I will be adding some links that I've found while shopping for materials to use to make Eyes. Here is waht I've found, (The links will be also be posted in the first post where it's easy to find. ) Glow in the dark paint! Ebay store: "Ready Set Glo" If you wish to try to make Glow in the dark eyes, check out the link above. Aslo I'm just putting this out there I have opened up my new Eye Shop, Nocturnia Oculisc spcializing in Gothic Mettalic and pearls. ...If anyone out there is selling thier custom eyes, I am looking for anything hand-painted or use of nailploish effects.
I've got a couple pairs of my glitter/nailpolish eyes that didn't turn out quite right for the character I'm waiting to arrive in dollform, maybe you'd be interested in them? =D /shameless
Just an idea, as I haven't attempted this yet. But for any of you that play Sims2 and have the SimPE program for customizing content, you could in theory use hi-res Sim eyes for this as well.. When I get my hands on some spare eyes I'll be trying this with my favorite TS2 eyeset.
Now that sounds cool... I've never played Sims so I wouldn't have ever known that you could change their eyes and that it was good enough res to make an eye blank out of
Great tutorial! At least I know not to be sad if a certain eye I wanted to buy was sold out! Thanks a lot!!!
The gold glitter eyes I did and posted on the other page, I has them installed =D And another pair I did was installed in today's arrivel. :3
Is there a way to get rid of the pupil in the acrylic eyes when you repaint them? or do you have to order the blanks to change the pupil color (or get rid of it altogether)?
You will have to order the blank eyes that are pupil-less. There is no way of getting rid of the black pupil that are in the oval eyes.
Oooo, I think I have some experimenting to do after my boy comes in lol Thank you for the tutorial, everyone's eyes came out great ^.^
I took a whack at it to make some animetic-style eyes using the Pupapa D.eye.Y bases, but I'm getting some serious refraction issues--if you look at them even slightly sideways, all you see is this white glow from the lens, and nothing of the iris at all. Creepy. Thought I'd ask, does gluing the prints to the lens help at all? I did use acetate transparency coated in pearl-ex powder instead of standard paper for the prints, and since acetate is definitely more expensive than paper, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Yes, gluing the print to the lenses does help with the clarity and will eliminate the "Refraction' that happens when you view the eye from another angle. Take a Look at at the second post of this thread, it points out why you should use adhesive. Edit: I have added eye templates to the first post.! Edit: I have just added a small step by step on how to make Anime eyes using an image source. Edit: I have also re-edited the first part of the post so that everything is more organized and clearer to follow. with an Index of sorts at the top of the thread. .....I didn't want to do multiple posts so I just edited my last post.
Okay. ^^; For some bizarre reason I got it into my head that the adhesive was for polishing the surface of the lens. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking either. Guess I'll be asking my mom to bring down some glues next time she heads this way; for some dumb reason all I have here is hot glue.
Why don't you try white school glue? just put a thin layer on top of the lenses, wait for it to dry a bit until it's in that sage in between tacky and still slightly wet. ....then place your eye chip. the glue should dry clear (if you put a thin layer on) and bubblefree. what's more, the glue can be simply washed off with water if you make a mistake.
Ah I never knew you could separate the bits out like that. I don't need to make eyes right now, but this was actually quite interesting to read.
Good to know it works! I really should go get some; it's versatile stuff, and my parents have taught me that having a variety of glues around is a good thing. I tried the eyes on my girl Agatha today after I did her faceup. I haven't migrated the images to Flikr yet, but I stuck them on Figure.fm if anyone's curious.
woah, this is an awesome way to make custom eyes.. (has 3 pupapa eye bases awaiting for arrival) I'm so excited to try out, although i'm not making some fancy eyes. I'm just gonna make some normal glass eyes -ish eyes. ;p
Raarr! Not much of an update : Now that I have a brand new digital camera I can take all the photos my black little heart desires. *Dances about* I have updated the photos on the section on "why you should use adhesive" in post #4 Showing more clearly on the 'Shine' you can avoid. Edit: Yes I am still working on that Metallic eyes tutorial for you all, not sure when I'll be able to put up, I 've still got a crappy computer that's giving me some trouble. ______________ Ahh! Pupapa now sells both blind and with black pupils blanks! in all sizes, with still their low-low prices! *Gos and buys lots*
^ T^T i just bought them..without the pupils...Guess i just have to paint them in with acrylics. >u<. Just a question, What do we use to clean pupapa eye bases then? The lenses part.
Um, they come blank, but it you are using acrylic paint to paint them then just let dry and scrap the paint off with your finger nail to start over again.
Yeah, but i sorta made a mistake with one eye... also, no matter how i shaved the bases bigger, the lens still can't fit it . ._.
have you tried shaving the outside edge of the lens? it might help make it slighlty smaller so it will fit.
Update, of sorts. The Next part of my Video Tutorial is now up ! Metallic Eye Tutorial! I have added this link to the first post. Please, keep questions pertaining to that tutorial in that thread please.
Wow, I didn't know this is possible! Thank you for this awesome and helpful tutorial . Gonna try someday...
