I would if I could afford it. Sadly the AUD is so bad it's just not worth it. All I can hope is that Hecate is not limited.
It's got more dog features than wolf per se... The forehead stop, the big open ears, probably chest width, and so on. edit: Okay now I look again I can kinda see it as a wolf. You could totally make one a dog though too. Annnd I took the plunge at last and ordered a Bronze darkhorn.
I ordered a black Hecate on layaway. I never thought there'd be a wolf BJD! She's gonna be the shifted form of my werewolf doll Emie. I've been looking into custom art dolls etc. kinda half-heartedly for years. I can't wait to get her, she is so beautiful!
I was also really excited about this because I'be been trying to sculpt my own wolf bjd for years, but I'm never happy with what I make and it's not really progressing... But unfortunately I'm really disappointed in her. She's got more of a dog anatomy than wolf -even I can see it, though I'm not an expert. And I just don't find her as polished as Cuartos dragons are. I feel like she could've done better with the detailing and jointing at the very least, since nebo already has better joints (mostly the legs) than darkhorn, and I was expecting that kind of care put into Hecate. Also, she's not big enough for the wolf I'd need, but since she's quite close I'm hoping someone will some day make a big wolf. Though, I'm very close to giving in and getting a custom art doll, like @Safira mentioned (also been looking into them for a while). Maybe I'll even prefer the fur then, because Hecate's fur isn't sculpted all around... even that addition would make her better. Her middle bits are too smooth compared to the neck and shoulders where there's more sculpted fur. I'm impressed by the size and the fact that she went for a big dog, but very much underwhelmed by the result. I wish I wasn't because then I wouldn't have to look anymore, but when it comes to wolves, I'm really picky. :I
I asked about Hectate because I'm also interested in her. Reply from the creator: "Hi! Hecate is not limited, you can buy her whenever you would like. Don’t worry Also I always accept layaways up to 10 months." I'm going to order her in a custom color as soon as I get the chance to. Hopefully in January. I put all my other BJD plans on hold for this wolf.
The Zeev wolf head is sculpted the same way when it comes to the fur. But with the right painting and blushing you can make Hecate look great even without sculpted fur all around This link shows how amazing Zeev looks after painting and blushing. Wolven
@manabusama - Oh that's excellent news! I used a layaway back when I bought my Darkhorn years and years ago and she let me do a two month layaway at that point. An extra month would have been better, but she was fantastic either way. @Sion - Ooh I love his eyes! They're so piercing! @MJKKJM - What a gorgeous colour scheme! Is that the colour of the resin alone or has he been blushed too?
He's been blushed by Cuartos His original resin color is shimmery blue, and I asked for silver and burgundy blushing!
@Sion , @MJKKJM they look gorgeous!! I love both their resins! I've just gotten my bronze darkhorn but I havent had a chance to blush him yet. I can't decide what kind of effects I want to use, maybe a light green verdigris patina on the spines? Or metallic highlights in a brighter bronze? What do you guys think?
Hello everyone! I did not know we have a thread for Cuartosdolls hahah oops.. Well, I got something yesterday so take a look for more pics if you are interested in this pretty wolf /threads/bjd...e-black-with-both-heads.797498/#post-12612409 Also many congrats to all who ordered one, you'll be amazed by her grace! and those who are not impressed and prefer to sculpt their own wolf instead, best of luck... Cuarto has set the bar very high with this masterpiece so I absolutely can not wait to see more wolves
Wolf!Madison, my Hecate, also arrived yesterday... and like any unusually-jointed and balanced doll, there is a bit of a learning curve involved with positioning her (Mine's back legs in particular are very tightly strung and have a habit of snapping back into the folded position, in spite of locking ridges on the leg joints, if the tail is raised and the hips aren't positioned in *exactly* the right way-), but Ada's right. Over-all she is a very graceful poser once you have her figured out. Plus, she really is a good size to match the Volks SD17 I intend to keep her with. The post office seriously did a number on her in transit, though. She came in a wooden box that ended up being completely smashed, and a thumbnail-sized chunk of resin was broken off of the lower edge of the top neck segment. I'll be emailing Cuarto today to see what they recommend with that... I can probably glue it back in place since the break is clean, but I'm not sure how stable the fix would be given the pressure put on the neck parts. o_0
I'm so sorry your baby got damaged! Its always such a huge bummer when that happens. Congratulations on receiving her though! I've got 1 more payment on mine that I'll be sending off this month and then I can bring mine home. What resin color is she?
My puppy had very kicky legs as well but a drop of hot glue inside her joints makes magic and she is able to keep balance better (that's what I do with all of my human dolls, because resin is smooth and heavy, bad combo without some life hacks. Try that and she might stop kicking How unfortunate to hear the box got smashed I think Cuarto will do her best to make you a replacement part though! I broke my own box by myself because it had a little damage (which I made bigger lol..) but I glued the corner back.. Everything else seemed fine, so the Finnish post still has my faith. Someone in Usa told me her box was also broken but the doll is fine tho. I made a collage of some fast poses I managed to figure out, same pics as in my BO
Madison is black, Abbi. She's meant to be a resin version of the wolf companion that one of my old City of Heroes MMO characters had. (The resin version of Shonokin himself is a Volks Kiriko.)
@Brightfires I think the Instagram picture of Cuartosdolls had our wolves, as mine has silver eyes and your red I don't know this game if honest, but the doll looks very suitable for your ideas.
They're both so beautiful!!! I may try and take mine apart and do some pleather sueding, depending on how complicated the joints look. But I've taken apart and dyed the fairyland centaur body so I'm sure I'll be able to figure this lady out.
Did everyone get a shipping notice regarding theirs? I was contacted to say mine would be shipping soon, but I didn’t receive specifics, so I was unclear if it was a shipping notice or just a progress email. I figured I’d ask here before bothering the artist.
She sends a shipping notice with a tracking number to the email address you have attached to your paypal when you paid the order.
Those do look like our wolves. XD Cuarto got back to me about Madison's broken bit, and is going to send me a new neck piece. That's a really cool thing for her to do.
Aah I'm so jealous!! I can't wait to get my Emie's shipping notice. I was hopeful seeing the first two on Instagram since mine is black with red eyes too but I guess it's a popular combo!
Madison's red eyes have sort-of an unusual shade/texture to them... After Cuarto saw the screen-shot of Shonokin's in-game wolf with its glowing red eyes, she offered to make a set for the doll version that would glow in the dark. They're a little spooky when the lights are out.
@Adalwolf - She's beautiful!! And wow, I just adore the way she poses - so fluid and natural! @Brightfires - Aww, what a bummer about the broken box and neck piece. I'm glad Cuarto will replace it for you. Madison looks gorgeous regardless.
She's very helpful and fast with her customer service. You puppy will be absolutely fine soon I'm very glad to hear good news Also very cool idea those glowing eyes. Snap a photo of them with your phone or something if you can, I'd be very interested to see how they look in dark room omg! Haha I can see that, the red eyes suit black wolf very well! I'm sure she'll ship yours out soon Crossing my fingers! Yes I was very pleased to handle her but the natural poses need some patience and I needed to check some real dog poses from google so I know how to put her legs while she walks etc. It's different than cats. But her joints are very interesting and unusual, it's good way to learn some wolf/dog anatomy and I heard a comment in Instagram someone saying this doll would make a good reference for artists I was very inspired by that so I might try to draw her.
My Darkhorn arrived last week and he is so fun! He will be my Chicline Ena's pet. I can't wait to paint him! Dangerous Pet by Tineke, on Flickr
Love your Darkhorn, @redmaiko. I have a question about the sculpt: is the jaw articulated, the way the AileenDoll dragon's is? Or does it stay open all the time? I love the way your Darkhorn matches Ena's eyes.
@redmaiko - Well it did take me about four years to finally paint my Darkhorn, so I'm not one to talk. @vermont chick - The Darkhorn jaw is articulated however the way it's sculpted means it's quite loose. Easily fixed with a small blob of eye putty behind the joint.
Thanks for the info, @Quiet and Insane. I'm torn between Darkhorn and Mobius, not that I'm particularly a fan of snakes but that Mobius looks to me like a dragon that slithered away before getting his legs.
@vermont chick Thank you! There are a couple of nice photos others have posted on page 5 of how the jaw attaches. I haven't been brave enough to take him apart yet.
I'd definitely love a Mobius one day too. I just love snakes! Though I will agree, his face does look a little more like a dragon. Not sure if you've heard of them, but there are dozens of species of legless lizards. They look a little like snakes, but are most definitely not snakes.
So today I needed to do some art therapy and so I settled down to attempt to paint this bronze drake. I think his name will be Orion. I tried to keep in the theme of bronze- with polish and patina surfaces.
Thanks! Yeah when I got him I was worried I'd maybe chosen too dull a color but I had this vague idea of what could be done with the Bronze color and it's nice to have it figured out now.
Right?? I was just so sure I'd made a mistake and then I got the paint onto him and it was like this gradual sunrise of OHHHHHH.
Thanks! Yes it's acrylic paint kind of drybrushed (the horns and claws) and then water-colored on. (The patina). The golden bronze is metallic, and so is a little of the blue-green in the patina effects.
I want a dragon from them so bad!! I'm following someone on Instagram and her pictures of the dragons are gorgeous
Hello! I also have a darkhorn from a wonderful craftswoman!) He is only white, but no less favorite because of this. His name is Lexus. For friends, just Lex))
Quiet and Insane, Thank you!)) Lex is playful, yes.And he often forgets that he is a formidable dragon and behaved like a kitten)
