CuartosDolls

Aug 8, 2016

    1. Now that Cuarto's lovely dolls are on-topic, I thought it'll be fun to have a discussion thread for them. ♥︎ Cuarto's website can be found here.

Currently, the dolls that are on-topic are:
      • Darkhorn
      • Lell
      • Möbius

      • x 1
    2. Starting the thread with a photo:

I got my Darkhorn way back in 2014, when Cuarto just opened for international order. At that time, there weren't wings available for them, so mine don't have them.

...I've always wondered if it'll be worth ordering another Darkhorn for the wings. :D

      • x 7
    3. Woo for on topic! I'll share Jormungand, my Möbius. He is is the custom color Jasper.

I was actually going to order a Darkhorn with wings when I found him. His posing is amazing. So glad I bought him.

    4. I don't have one, but I've been eyeing the Darkhorn for aaaages.
Glad to see theyre on topic now, hope to be seein lots more of them now!
      :aheartbea

    5. I don't have one yet either but I really hope I can someday get a Lell!

    6. [IMG] I have a Lell, got her a year ago. love how she poses and looks ^^

      • x 5
    7. Omg she is SO CUTE! how did you get eyes in her?

    8. thank you ^^ i removed the head part, not easy since she is so small and it is hard to reach the part you set the s hook on.

    9. I am so glad these cuties are on topic now! I currently have a Darkhorn named Thorfax. I'd love to add a few more to my collection (Lell and Möbius included!) :)

    10. I took Jormungand out recently and got a sweet little picture. Thought I'd share.

    11. Aww, that's adorable! He looks so curious about the flowers! :D

    12. Thank you. I was trying to get an "innocent" snake picture.

    13. xellos, I love your Morbius! He's gorgeous! I don't see him as a snake; I see him as still being a dragon, only with a snake-like body. Asian dragons tend to have snake-like bodies, right?

Oh, and btw, Best. Signature. Ever! "TREKKIES AGAINST TWILIGHT!!!". :fangirl:OMG! I love you! (Live long and prosper! _\V/)

    14. I been wanting to get a custom darkhorn but when I email him he does not reply. Anyone know how long it takes for a reply?

    15. It can take a while for Cuartos to respond, I wouldn't worry unless it takes more than a coupe of weeks.

    16. I think it took about a week for me.

    17. I am so happy to have found this thread and find these lovelies are on topic!
I just bought a Mobius 88cm in black. He is going to be my Jormungand and will mostly be hanging out with (or should I say coiled around) my Loki.
Xellos I see you have named yours Jormungand too. He is perfect for the Midgard serpent. Can I ask what size eyes you used? I am thinking probably about 6mm but not sure.
I am also thinking about adding a little bit of blush as I would like some iridescence on his back scales but not yet sure what to use. I do like the plain black also so I can wait and see when he arrives.
Love seeing Thorfax Q&I. For some reason until I looked today I assumed these guys were not on topic. So glad they are :)

    18. Hehehe, I was wondering when I'd see you in here @Kavarr! I can't wait to see him when he gets to you! He and Thorfax can hang out. :)

    19. They will look so cool together! I love some of the custom colours that they offer. I also like the winged dragons but I don't have a dragon character so may just have to admire yours.

    20. I swear there are at least four more colours I would like to get a dragon or snake in!

    21. Kavarr, he takes 6~8. I have 8 in mine, but they are just slightly too big.

Also, lol, I have a Loki too. (Actually 2 one sd, one msd) Jormungand usually hangs out with one of them or Fenris. I'm a bit of a freak for Norse mythology.

      • x 1
    22. I hope you do get a family of dragons then I can get to play with yours :)

Thanks for the info on the eyes. I have seen some that I like in both 6mm & 8mm. It look like I have some shopping to do. At least he doesn't need cloths, wigs etc...

I also like both Norse mythology and i'm a Marvel fan (Hiddleston as Loki really) so I can't help getting things for my spoilt brat Loki. I got my Thor to keep him company and now he will have Jormungand. I don't think Thor will be very happy about the serpent. I would love to see some pics of your Loki's with Jormungand.

    23. Perhaps once I buy a car I'll allow myself a new doll. ;)

    24. Yessssss a ssssnake doll. Would be fun walking into a meet with them draped around our shoulders :)

    25. I already do that with my big guys! But a snake would be ever so sneaky. Imagine the looks on peoples' faces!

      • x 1
    26. @Kavarr here's one of him with my msd Loki. Please forgive the photo. I took it as we were going out to the renaissance festival.

I walk around with Jormungand on my shoulders all the time. It really is more fun than it should be.

    27. @xellos Your red headed Loki is so cute! Just don't tell him that as I'm not to sure Loki would like being called cute. Those eyes look pretty good on Jormungand. When you say they are a bit big do you mean for the eyewell or because you want more white to show? I am want no white showing at all just the coloured part of the eye only so maybe 8mm would be good for my boy.
I have a feeling I am going to carry mine around too. I have a couple of Naga and I love playing with their tails so I imagine this will be even more fun. There is another in our doll group who has just bought one and with @Quiet and Insane getting one and me it will be fun to wear them to meetups :XD:

Aaaargh! Now I keep thinking about getting a dragon in one of those wonderful custom colours. I love the metallic white (pearl) and metallic blue.

    28. Hahaha, our meets down here will be awesome (well, they already are...)!

    29. @Kavarr they sit a little far back, but I don't want much white to show and like the look of the eyes. It was also really hard to get the eyes in there. And don't worry about Loki. He loves to be admired. ;)

    30. @xellos I think those eyes look really good. I was wondering how difficult they are to put in. I bought a packet of 6mm beads and thought I will try them out and see how they look. If they work it would be the least expensive eyes as I got a pack of 200+ mixed beads for $3!
On another note I sold a body (that sounds really weird) and put it towards getting a dragon. I decided that one would make a perfect fire lizard companion for my elven prince. I'm getting a custom colour with glitter and I can't wait to see what he turns out like. Cuarto told me my snake is ready and it will be about 3 weeks to finish a dragon and send them both out together. I was expecting a much longer wait.

    31. @Kavarr I think it took about ten minutes. It seemed like every time I got one eye right, I would bump the other.
      Congrats on the shipping.

I have a few layaways to pay off, and then I'm planning to order one of those dragons. :) A friend I visited had a Darkhorn and I just loved how he and Jormungand looked together. Sadly, I forgot to take pictures, but it did really cement my want of one.

    32. Oh I am so glad that these guys are now On-Topic! I am constantly searching for new photos of Darkhorn and have decided to get one of my own. Unfortunately I am having a devil of a time trying to decide what colour I should get.

Curious if anyone has painted theirs (or any of the other Cuartos Dolls) and what they've used to help prevent chipping?

    33. @Kavarr - Cuartos sends the dragons out with a baggie of coloured rhinestones, I'm assuming she'd do the same with the snakes, but the eyes were so not fun to get in. I have to use a large sewing needle just to pull the head off. Poor Thorfax is in need of re-stringing and some painting. Poor little guy is still blank after well over a year...

    34. I have absolutely no intention of painting mine. I figured that it would be far to easy to scratch it. With a single colour I would have just done horns and maybe those spiny bits and his feet. since I went for a colour with rainbow glitter in it i'm sure he will be plenty colourful. I was going to ask what eye size they take. I knew it would be damn small. It's good that Cuarto sends some eye size stones and a carry bag with them. As mine will have wings I think he is going to be more difficult to carry around but I can live with that. I do love the way you can curl Thorfax up in your pocket.

I am going to paint something clear but iridescent on my Mobius but only a bit on some of his back scales so I can avoid all those joints.

I can't wait to get them now :)

    35. @Kavarr - Oh the resin colours are nice enough to not need painting, I just want to add a few little details to his teeth and claws, and maybe around his eyes, but nothing too serious. Those joints are insane! Thorfax is definitely the most convenient of my dolls to carry! :)

    36. Hmm I suppose I will have to do something with his teeth and inside mouth. Can't really have it all rainbow glitter

    37. We have three dragons at my local meet group, one of which has a little blushing added to the face. I have a photo, although you can't really see the sides of the face from this angle. (While I do have my own dragon, the one photographed here belongs to someone else, as does the passenger.)

    38. @Kavarr - Rainbow glitter everything! :whee:

@Selidor - Ooh yes blushing like that! Simple enough to give the sculpt a little depth. :) (Also omg a Feldspathe! How cute!)

    39. Well, I went and did it. Put in the order for a Grass Green Darkhorn. It was so expensive (stupid exchange rates), but I really hope it'll be worth it. >_<

    40. Don't worry. It will be. The workmanship of these guys is exquisite. Did you get with or without the wings?

    41. I went without wings. as lovely as they are I like the idea of being able to curl up the little one and carry them about. I'm calling them a Beetle Drake to explain lack of wings and small size.

    42. Ooh that's a cool concept!

    43. Anyone care to help my waiting by spamming some Darkhorn photos? I feel like I've exhausted the small selection already available online. ;_;

    44. I second that motion! I would love to see any more poses these little guys can do :3

    46. Awww. Thorfax looks like he's enjoying himself. :)

    47. Yay Thorfax (love that name btw)! And his spiked collar is so cute!

Out of curiosity, how well do Darkhorns handle a sitting pose?

    48. Those leaves are the perfect contrast to little Thorfax, I love it! :XD:

    49. Thank you everyone! He's such a fun little thing to play with - he never fails to find something interesting to explore. :)

@Squeek of the North - sitting on all fours or up on hind legs? I can get some photos tomorrow if you'd like.

    50. Both if you please. :eusa_pray I suppose I am most curious regarding a sort of sitting position as if they were told to "Sit" like a dog.

    51. Not a problem, I can get the photos for you tomorrow...we had a doll meet today and I am looking forward to sleep.

    52. I received confirmation for my order and payment! It's really happening, I'm so excited!
I was asked if I wanted paint on it. I declined, but wasn't aware that they did that.

    53. Oooh super exciting! :D

    54. Congrats!

    55. Oh, I'm glad I found this thread. I've been dying to find owner photos of Möbius. I thought nobody had gotten theirs since they're impossible to find and Cuartos has been known for doing some disappearing acts. I had to start a paypal claim just to get her attention during my darkhorn order. And she hasn't been updating her instagram in ages. But anyway, great to see that someone at least has gotten theirs. I'd love more pictures too. :3 (I'm dying to get one of my own but I need to sell stuff before I can justify buying more critters.)

I currently have one winged darkhorn in my cast:
She tends to make appearances with my other dolls.

    56. Wow, your Darkhorn sure is pretty! :D
I didn't really realise that - there are several locals all with dolls from Cuarto and I've not heard anything bad, although I may also just have forgotten...

    57. I'd be happy to oblige with more pictures of Jormy. I had actually forgotten to post this one of when I took him apple picking.

    58. Aww, how cute! :D He certainly looks like he's enjoying himself.

    59. It was seeing the darkhorn that made me realize there was far more to the bjd hobby than just pretty faces that tended to look the same. (edit: faces tend to blur together for me, even real ones so very few sculpts tend to catch my eye.) So the dragon has a soft spot for me for multiple reasons. It's been a couple years since then and it's still on my wishlist. Fingers crossed things go my way so I can get one sooner than later this year.

For those who already have the darkhorn, I have a question. How far does the mouth open?

    60. It depends on what kind of a hook you have in the head and how it's positioned. Basically it can open waaaay too much, like the whole jaw hangs out and looks dumb (like it's been dislocated). But if the hook is a different shape and differently positioned you can make it so that it doesn't open as much (looks more natural) and is more stiff to use.
I'm not sure how my pearl dragon had the hook in the head because when I got her, I immediately pulled on her head to check out the mechanism and she fell apart. Literally, the hook gave out and she fell into pieces from head to the tail attachment. :'D (Bought her second hand.) My dark blue dragon came straight from Cuarto and his mouth had the "hanging open" syndrome, so I made a new hook out of some wire and it's stiffer now.
