Crochet Crochet? Vol 3

Jun 7, 2014

    1. Thank you!

    2. Look at what I finished yesterday night!! It took me so many weeks to finish this for a number of reasons (with the number one being laziness, l o l), but recent events have forced me to occupy my hands and so I sped through the final process for this dress, and so here it is! Sonja looks so cute, Iโ€™m ecstatic with how it suits her. Itโ€™s not at all perfect, but it was 100% a learning process the whole way through...and now hereโ€™s the result! Iโ€™m so happy! <3 <3 <3

    3. Taking advantage of downtime to do a bit more crochet. I ended up making two cardigans so far for my dolls, the first one (pink) ended up being larger than expected, but fits my pastel deer boy, Caspian, decently well enough. I ended up doing a second one in blue for my newest arrival, Lysander, and added a hood this time. Considering I freehand everything like a little gremlin instead of using a pattern, I'd say they turned out pretty good!

    4. OHHHHHH MY GOODNESS I'm in love!!! Both with the little crocheted cardigans and your colorful boys!! :D:D:D And you FREEHANDED these?! That's so incredible, I honestly can't make anything crocheted without a preexisting pattern so major kudos to you. They turned out so well! I love that the colors you chose for them match them perfectly too, the bright pink for your pastel boy and the darker, deeper blue for your more solemn-looking cutie. The oversized look of the pink cardigan I think turned out to be on-point for what I can glean from his character just visually too! >o<

    5. vietblueheart, what a beautifull dress <3!

    6. Thank you @auntbear and @vietblueheart ! I had a lot of fun making them! I enjoy coming up with my own designs, which is why I don't usually use patterns, unfortunately that came back to bite me tonight! I was trying to make a sleeveless backless turtleneck sweater for one of my winged boys, and I went a wee bit overboard.

Since Kristophe isn't too eager to begin his crossdressing career, here's Rae modeling the oversized dress I ended up with instead of a shirt! It's cute, but definitely not what I intended to make!

    7. i don't usually use patterns either, so i am thankful i have dolls in a lot of sizes or i would have do do even more ripping and reworking than i do now!

    8. Oh me too, even with patterns, lol!

    9. Whenever I go too big, my Charmdoll boy ends up wearing it because he is the biggest of my crew! He's broad chested. I haven't gone too small yet, but I'm sure my Fairyland boys or my Magic Time boy would fit tighter stuff!

In other news, Project make sweaters for my winged boys continues on full force!

    10. Love this, auntbear1 Do you have something inside the ears to keep them from drooping?

    11. oddly no. they are just crocheted with a smaller hook than the main hat. i was planning to wire them, but it didn't work so i just blocked them flat and they stayed fairly stiff on their own.

i may paint them with starch later on, just to make them a little stiffer. or i may make some light pink inner ears and sew them in. the extra layer would help i think. they work for pictures, but i think if she plays in the outfit much it will gradually get droopy if i don't do something

    12. So cute! I love it

    13. @auntbear That's adorable! What size hook did you use for the hat?

Help, I keep making cardigans, I can't stop.

    14. I made Bibi a jumper skirt and sweatshirt! I did embroider the skirt and I made wrist-cuffs, a small through and a facemask from leftover yarn!

EDIT: I'm having trouble with the second image so here is a link just in case

    15. Oh wow, that outfit is gorgeous and so detailed!

    16. OH MY GOODNESS????? I can't believe how perfectly it suits her, plus all the little frills and details!! ;O; <3 <3 <3 Her shoes and headband (and little mask!!) all go together with her dress and apron so nicely, great work!! :chibi The flower embroidery is absolutely darling, heheh.

    17. @vietblueheart Thank you very much :whee: (There is no apron, just 2 "layers" of the skirt but I can see how it can look like that)

    18. So I made the first attempt of an idea, it turned out how I want: [flickr link]

    19. HER DRESSSSSSSD oh my word!!! This is unbelievably lovely, aaaaaa I love what you did for the swimsuit but oh wow the dress just knocks me out! I love how the top looks kind of like a sweater and then the skirt is so lacy! <3 Beautiful work, she looks absolutely gorgeous in it! :D

    20. Thank you!:whee: I was inspired by a photo in the catalogue of a lingerie brand that ha a flowy dress with puffy sleeves, It looked like a good silhouette for a beach cover/dress. If I do this again I'll probably go for one colour or better colour blocking

    21. I found this pattern in Ravelry and was absolutely in love! But as I didn't have the right yarn to make it for me, I worked with the thread I had and made a doll-size shawl!

    22. @Matafleur That's amazing!
It's perfectly in scale and I love your color choices:3nodding:

    23. Marvelous, it looks like wings.

    24. @Matafleur that's amazing! :D
(Which pattern is it? I might need to make a bunch of those ...)

    25. the talent and hard work in this thread is absolutely incredible! I've had a half-made sweater for my DC Diana for a while now and this is great fuel to go back and try again :)

    26. @Chibi_Rat Thank you! I am really glad that it worked so well. It was what I had home at the moment and it turned out really nice.

      @El BJD Thank you!

@Hellaclara That's the idea! I didn't add a picture of the shawl by itself, but it has a very beautiful shape.

@Jany Thanks! You can find the pattern on CrazyPatterns but there's a link on Ravelry too. It's called Wings of Love. I am already making a human-sized for me and have many more planned!

    27. What a rhythm! I am fascinated by the rhythm of the pattern. Very beautiful!

    28. Crocheted a crop top for my witch Harlow~ It's my third attempt aha, the first was with a much thicker cotton that left all the details lost.

    29. That's so pretty @sugarstitch! What weight of cotton did you use for this one? And did you use a pattern? I can't just freehand and it's difficult to find patterns for this size.

    30. Thank you so much @Hmac58 Unfortunately I have no idea about the cotton sorry, it was an unmarked ball in my stash. For the pattern, I just looked at a bunch of people sized patterns, then kinda put bits together until I liked it aha. The cups are basic ones with an added scallop trim (ch3 sk1 sl st in next) and the bottom is just a hybrid of different bits I saw on youtube :sweat

    31. There's a free halter top for MSD size on Ravelry. I'll message you the link.

    32. Thank you for taking the time to send that pattern @El BJD. I often end up using people patterns, too, and adjusting the yarn size and crochet hook size to make it fit my dolls. It's nice to find a pattern specifically designed for MSD.

    33. There's also some nice patterns here on DOA, under the 'WORKSHOP' tab above. :)

    34. Thanks for the help @El BJD. I'm working on a project right now for my Chicline Lishe. I'll post a pic once it's done.

    35. [IMG] I only just got my first doll 2 days ago, but I decided to freestyle a sweater dress as a test. Considering I haven't touched a hook in a good while, I't quite pleased. The yarn is waaaay too thick though (the only one I had around), so I will probably remake it in something more appropriate.[IMG]

    36. I don't think the yarn ended up being way too thick @Morri_P. This looks like it would be one of those trendier bulky yarn sweaters. :)

    37. Haha! Yeah, it doesn't look too bad... but her arms don't bend :mwahaha

    38. Whoops! I can see how that might be a problem.

    39. @MegWesley OMG, exactly what I thought about the gorgeous sweater of @Morri_P. !

Dear @Morri_P. , I really like the sweater you just winged. I especially like that you worked it in the other direction I saw in other tutorials. Thank you so much, really inspiring ... and I want to try a sweater like this, too!

Edit: Concerning her arms: that's just details to be worked on. And on all those pretty fashion photos you are not able to tell if the models are are capable of moving at all in their oh so pretty outfits XD
Maybe you could unravel the arms and use a bigger hook / looser kind of stitch or more chains?

    40. @Lythtis has a point. Let's brainstorm with @Morri_P. I knit much more than I crochet, but I do know about fitting things! Where is the sweater too tight on her? You said her arms don't really move, but how do the arms fit? Do they feel tight anywhere when you put it on her? How did you construct the sweater?

Together, we can make the second sweater even better!

    41. @MegWesley @Lythtis

      Awww, thank you, Both <3

The arms are not too tight, they are actually quite loosely fit... it's just that the fabric ended up so thick it's really stiff! :)

Unravelling the sleeves is quite a good idea, thanks! I might actually make them from something else (maybe contrasting fabric or something).

I want to also remake it using really fuzzy yarn (they call it "eyelash" or "tinsel" yarn here, not sure about other places), but I need to find one I like. I'll make it a bit longer and sweater-dressy too.

    42. @Morri_P.
Both ideas sound great! But please do not forget to share your progress as we are a bunch of curious crafters that enjoy your work :3

    43. I sure will! Waiting for yarn delivery at the moment!
Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement! :kitty2
