    2. That is lovely! I really like the addition of the beads

    3. I just checked this thread again...great stuff as always. So inspiring. Really makes me want to crochet something other than wig caps!

    4. That's so pretty Lyrajean! I love the addition of the beading.

    5. Everyone's work has been so wonderful to see! And a new thread too now :D

So here is my contribution- nothing special, just tiny pukipuki sized gear that I was working on over the weekend. And yes, the socks fit, and actually fit into the shoes I have for my pukis (mind you they are on the loose side, so they can accommodate the "thick" socks. All made with a 0.5mm (size 14) crochet hook and a single strand of sewing thread.

Now off to start another project :)

    6. Great work, as usual! :) I started working on the pattern you posted for PukiPuki, but before I could add the sleeves, my little Omi decided that the bodice was perfect and ran off with it on, not even waiting for me to do the buttons. ;)

    7. Thank you!

LOL yeah they can get very excited when they have something just right for them :D

    8. did you put elastic in the waist if the panties eleona? or do they just slide on?

    9. Yes there's elastic in the panties, and in the neckline of the dress, so both just slip on :)

    10. that's a great idea for the dress! no fiddly little closures on such a tiny doll!

    11. Why I do it, yup :) Though I will use buttons, if the work calls for it. I make my own elastic loops- got some fine elastic thread from a sewing store (Fabricville) and use the tube it was wound on (I wound the elastic off onto a small section of empty paper towel roll). Loop it around and knot it, and then use a tiny dab of super-glue on the knot. Once it dries, you can trim the ends up against the knot and it doesn't come undone. Means you can make your own loops of any size, of any type of elastic thread/cord that suits your work :)

    12. Wow, those are amazing. I wish i was good enough at crochet to be able to work something that fine!

    14. I finalized my summery shoe pattern and I think this is the last pair I'm going to make for a bit. I'm rather sick of them after making five pairs in a row. *_*

    15. Oh my, @tephra, I will have to bookmark your Ravelry page! I plan on crocheting my doll some clothes, since I have pretty much no sewing experience. It's nice to see people making fashionable patterns for crochet (sometimes so hard to find...)

    16. love your sweater pattern on Ravelry, thank you

    17. Thanks for the links in your siggy, Tephra. I purchased your shoe pattern. I always need reminding I'm a member at Ravelry. It is a great resource, but I tend to forget about it :doh

    18. Hi there, I was wondering what would be the best yarn to make clothes for tinies? I don't want it to be too bulky, but sewing thread isn't it for me.

    19. I would say the most readily available thread of a passable scale for tinies would be size 10 crochet cotton, such as Aunt Lydia's from the Coats and Clark brand. I have a bunch of it in a lot of different colors. The company also makes size 20 and size 30, which are thinner/finer threads, but I haven't seen as many colors in those sizes in stores. The only complaint I have about this brand is that it does feel a bit stiff for things that require drape like skirts, so it takes some creative patterning to get fullness or frills. I have used one other brand so far, DMC Traditions, that is a little softer, but on the flip side it does split a little more easily than the Aunt Lydia's.

    20. I agree with *designedforsmiles* that size 10 crochet cotton would be the best for small doll clothes, that is also what I have seen most patterns call for. I am new to dollies but a veteran crocheter, and it takes some getting used to, but crochet thread isn't that bad! Aunt Lydia's does have a great variety of colors.

Perhaps for the stiffness problem, try some sock yarn? I feel like it is either fingerling weight or lighter technically, but it is a finer yarn but also softer, and comes in toooons of varieties! I was thinking about designing a dress for my doll using some sock yarn I have laying around (who knows why, crochet socks are so bulky!).

    21. All the adorable stuff!! I loved those shoes!!

    22. Other options for tiny crochet are perle/pearl cotton threads. DMC is just one brand and makes them in a variety of sizes - from 3 down to 12. I've had good luck using size 8 with a 1.5mm steel hook.

Another option, but it's much stiffer, is to use Lizbeth brand cordonnet cotton thread. It's primarily used for tatting. Their size 10 is very close to DMC size 8 perle cotton. Size 20 is a bit smaller - a 1.4mm steel hook works well. Lizbeth thread also comes in finer sizes, 40 and 80, but I haven't tried these.

I've also experimented with different weights of various brands of embroidery threads. I'm lucky enough to have access to a fairly local needlework store and they sell all kinds of threads, mostly for embroidery work; there are some wonderful varieties of silk threads out there. The name of this store is Needle in a Haystack. They are located in Alameda, California, have a website (needlestack.com) and do mail order.

    23. Here are a few of the crochet items I have made so far for Bella. Nowhere near as delicate looking as the beautiful bra and dresses on this thread already but fun all the same.

    24. Ilove your dress and jacket. The blue buttons look great against the brown wool

    25. I have always thought about trying out embroidery thread for delicate lace work, and I think it would be lovely for doll clothes! But nicer thread that would drape well would be more expensive ... Will have to check out that store!

    26. oh my those shoes are so pretty, great job

    27. ExplosionLimit, zozosauntie: Ravelry is an awesome site. If you haven't already, check out the ABJD Knits group, it's not just for knitting. :)

      DragonHive, sewsroses:
      Thank you!

I sent those shoes to a friend with a PlanetDoll mini girl and they fit a bit snug, but they do fit. I have a few tweaks I will try later to see if I can make a pair that fits better.

    28. This is my first attempt at crocheting a bikini for my SD. I didn't have a pattern and I have some work to do and found out that I really need to write down every count. Sorry for the dark photo from my phone, it was late.

    29. Tephra- it has been a while since I spent much time on ravelry, didn't realize there was a doll community there! Will def be joining.

    30. @ bayni: The bikini looks great! I have been trying to figure out a variety of techniques for building up "bra"-type shapes for various form-fitting clothes for my girls, but I haven't tried this one yet.

    31. I've been so busy in the garden, I didn't notice we have a new thread started! And the link didn't work for me, sigh! What lovely outfits everyone's been working on! I saw your shoe pattern on Ravelry just the other day, Tephra! Last year, I made one of my msd girls a lovely dress using embroidery floss. It turned out very nice, but had a gazillion ends to weave in! I'll try to hunt down the photo. I recently ordered a bunch of one ply yarn and some #8 perle cotton. I'm enjoying working with them both, on either 1.5 or 1.75m hooks.

      [IMG][IMG]

      Crochet is addictive :D

    33. Darn cute hats! I find crochet addictive as well. :)

    34. Thank you. How nice to find people with a similar addiction ;)

    35. i was wondering why this thread was so quiet, i didn't notice that when i unsubscribed from the old thread i forgot to subscribe to the new one, till someone on another thread asked about crocheting and i couldn't find it in my list :doh

    36. That happened to me with both this thread & the sewing thread.

    37. Those animal hats are adorable! What sort of yarn did you use? It looks just slightly fuzzy.

    38. That looks like washable felt yarn.

    39. Thank you :) I'm using acrylic yarn. Sometimes I add mohair. At the end (when I finish hat) I comb my brush.

    40. Plain old acrylic? That is cool, will have to experiment myself!

    41. I was wondering why I wasn't seeing updates lol I didn't know we moved to a new thread :P

Anyways today I'm finishing up the second boot of my second boot and animal hat set :) I'll share pictures tomorrow when I'll have better lighting!

    53. ooh, i don't want to think of winter yet! i'm still enjoying our all to brief summer, but the hats are lovely

    54. More lovely hats, mpdoll, but I'm with auntbear re winter!

    55. How cute I love the lil bear hat. It suits her well. Good work.

    56. Everyone makes such adorable things for their dolls! Can't wait til mine arrives so I can make things properly to her measurements...

    57. Thank you all :)

auntbear, El BJD - In Poland is now terribly hot summer... And I really like the winter, so I try to enchant with hat the temperature outside the window... ;)

    58. alla, your teeny dresses are beautiful and your model is a cutie ( one of my favorite sculpts :aheartbea). I don't have the patience to use such fine threads on a consistent basis. It's too hard on my eyes, so I appreciate your fine work.

mpdoll, summer here near San Francisco can seem like winter in other places. Today is cold and foggy. My resin crew would love your hats today. They really like the bear!

    59. i don't usually do progress photos but someone on another thread was asking about silk yarn/thread so i snapped this one of my pukipuki and pukifee wearing almost done crocheted dresses [IMG]silk dresses ready to dye by onebluestocking, on Flickr.
i still need to sew the ends in, dye them, add buttons and lace yarn through the eyelet rows....
