I hope these pictures show up!
I just finished (or at least MOSTLY finished) my first ever face up on my Migidoll/Cherishdoll Andy, and was hoping for some critique. I know the photos aren't the best quality, but I haven't had the funds to get a better camera...also, I know some dust got caught up in his face up. I don't know if anyone can see it in the pictures, but I've already noticed that and am trying to figure out how to prevent it in the future!
I look forward to the feedback!

    2. First of all, I love the color choice--it's so vibrant and unique!

One thing I would recommend is bringing more color into the face with blush, etc. Watching makeup tutorials or faceup videos will give you an idea of how/where to place the color (most commonly the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose).

As for the dust issue, I think the most common way to get rid of it is with a sharp knife (like an x-acto knife or something like that) and very carefully picking it off. If you are in a particularly dusty area while working on a faceup, it may also be helpful to do some light dusting before getting started.

You can do it! Keep practicing, and I'm sure you'll be making stellar faceups in no time!

    3. :D I honestly wondered if blushing might come up...I've seen so many dolls where I feel it has been overdone, that I honestly was a bit scared to try with this guy...however, I might just add some in the coming days! And thank you for the tips on the dust issue!!!

    4. You're welcome!

Yeah, blushing is tricky--on the first faceup I did, I went way overboard and somehow ended up giving her a whole new skin tone, because I kept trying to mask the mistakes! :sweat Even just a little bit of color goes a long way towards bringing a face to life.

    5. It looks good! I'm pretty new to face ups too but find that once sprayed with sealant it can help to pop something over the top like a lid to stop anything from settling onto the face. Last time I sat the head onto the lid of a shoe box for spraying and then used the bottom of the box as a lid to cover it. Hopefully that makes sense!

    6. It's a great face up for a first, remember to keep your pencils sharp.

For dust you might want to clean the area with a duster before you start your face up. And the lay the head on shoe box lid and then cover it with the box itself.

    7. Thanks for the advice. I'm unfortunately using a sponge-on method of sealing the face (I have a bearded dragon that's sensitive to the fumes from the spray sealants, and the weather where I live doesn't allow me to work with it outside), so it's not so much after coating as during and prior, but I'll still try that shoebox technique and see if it helps even a bit!!!

    8. @Madison E. Grey

I use a regular old needle to remove specks and dust and lint in a faceup. :) I also sometimes use a can of compressed air (like computer duster) to spray on the head a bit before sealing. Whatever sponge you are using could be attracting and trapping lint too -- and unfortunately, the only way to avoid that is to make sure you have a fresh clean sponge, and never let it get dusty or dirty. :sweat

As for the faceup, your eyebrows are so even! :D I do think though, they could better suit the head sculpt if they were positioned a little lower, and perhaps a little less curved. While they kind of match the curve of his upper eyelid, most people's eyebrows don't really do that, so following the browbone itself, instead of the eye, would make them look more natural.

I like this resource for eyebrows:
      https://www.headcovers.com/resources/beauty/eyebrow-shapes

Also, I think if you applied a bit more in the way of eyelashes and eyeliner, it would pull his look together more; if you used the same color of green for the lashes, I think that would look awesome. :)

Overall though, nice work! :dance I think you have a lot of potential!

    9. Thank you so much for the advice! I'm just finishing up adding a bit of blushing, more eyeliner, eyelashes and the gloss! Hopefully I'll post an updated photo tonight!

    10. Is it supposed to be a boy? Because in this case I would suggest making the eyebrows a little fuller (but in case you want to keep it androgenous, maybe just arch a little more).
I find the colors choice insteresting, it matches a fantasy like japanese anime boy, I like it.
I agree with previous comments about giving more color, its a little pale.
      Good luck! :thumbup

    11. Updated photo!!!!

Isaac now has fuller eyebrows, some faint blushing, more eyeliner, and eyelashes (really faint, but I think that fits him), his gloss has been put on, eyes have arrived, and his wig is in progress!

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, it's supposed to be a boy, yet I hope to keep it fairly androgynous still. I did make the eyebrows a bit fuller recently, though, and posted a picture...what do you think about the alteration? :) (I also added a bit of blushing!)
As to the color choice, this kid shells a character of mine who has blue hair...and I've always thought that eyebrows should mostly match hair color. For the eyeshadowing, I just really, really wanted something bright and energetic for this little tyke.

    12. Grats of your first faceup! The eyebrows look much better. The best advice I think I can offer is, don't be afraid to draw on paper what you want the faceup to be. Remember this is your boy, and there are many styles of art it is your choice. The burnt umbre or yellow above the eye, you may want to play with a fade of color within this rainbow color theme. It makes me think of candy, those colors :)

    13. Thank you! I will say that I...ATTEMPTED to draw out my ideas, but I ended up tearing apart the pages because the way I draw face shapes just didn't match my little guy, and it ended up being weird :'( However, the face up honestly turned out WAY better than even those drawings...so I was pretty excited. I'll keep in mind what you mentioned about the coloring above the eyes. I'm too scared to change anything right now, but hopefully in the future! And it will hopefully be helpful as I'm continuing with my 2nd faceup currently!!! :)

    14. The colors are super cute, I just think that you mainly need to work on the application, you can see some of the strokes/pencil lines a little bit and also maybe try giving it some more dimension? Like darker colors closer to the eye for example

    15. Ah! That's a really good idea! I know I was having trouble with getting my brushes and pencils in the right spots with how little of a kid he is, too...but I'll definitely try that the next time I work on his face-up!!! :)
