Congrats @petiteballerine ! It's nice to have something ship early, especially when Raccoon Doll is experiencing delays. I was hoping something would ship before South Korea gets bogged down in the Olympics and all the traffic that will bring.

@skyealloway - That's a great use for the blank Mei head!

Yay! for Karins coming home. USPS tracking stopped at JFK for me. I expect a knock on the door tomorrow or Tues.

mine is blank. I have such a backlog of dolls needing faces, blushing, mani/pedi.

 

Karin will be my first Creature Doll with a face-up. I painted the first two myself.
My tracking stopped at JFK for an entire day, then updated the next day (this morning) to show it at my regional distribution center. That's only 30 miles away, so I expect her with tomorrow's mail.

 

It looks like the Mei head promotion is over, because I didn't get one. I did get the heel feet, which I had ordered separately and asked to have sent with Karin. I also received a pair of No. 3 hands and a pair of boots not shown on the website. Gifts? At first I thought it might be someone else's order, but with the boots being different from the ones on the site it can't be.

Karin's face-up is very pink--much more so than her images on the website. The default eyes are 8mm round acrylics and you can hardly see any white around the iris. I changed her into 6mm oval glass eyes, which fit better. They're a darker color than I like so she'll keep them only until my Safrindoll eye order arrives. (They should have shipped today.)

Did someone ask me for a comparison photo of Karin with another doll? If so, I don't remember which other doll. Here's a photo of Karin by herself for now. She's wearing the default eyes in this photo.

You are very gifted, @vermont chick. lol. I received an appropriate extra for my vision of the new girl: a painted sword. but, that's all.
I love Karin! Not usually a fan of pink skin, this color is very nice. I have a queue of dolls needing faceups, mani/pedi, blushing.

My girl's eyes are pale blue, perfect size. So, now all she needs is lashes and some side-eye.

I want to dress her right away, but maybe I can get to work painting this week.

I don't know which size sword you got but I have a feeling my two gifts are about equal in price to your one. The heel feet were not a gift--I paid for them. Wish my girl had come with pale blue eyes instead of the dark blue. They photograph lighter than they look in person. All the eyes I ordered from Safrindoll this time are darker than I usually get, so I hope something works for her. I also need to buy her a new wig. I have a bin full of wigs and she's already asking for something different.

 

I just looked again at the items in my box, and they sent the painted short sword (which is pretty long) and the #3 hands to hold weapons.
I'd ordered the daggers unpainted and #2 hands.
very cool of them, and more useful to me than a head I won't use. that with free shipping and 10% off clothing with a face I fell hard for made it an easy choice to buy her.
I can see her as a dual-wielding Druidess with earth magics, dagger in one hand, sword in the other. Stern expression as intimidating as her steel knives.
But, I think there's a male violet Dark Elf in her future. Friend or foe? (another head to paint!)

@skyealloway - Karin on Creature's website has white skin, which is what made me think it would be safe to order white skin with face-up. I should try taking photos against a plain gray background and not using Photoshop to balance the colors and lighting and see if that makes a difference. Here's a photo of my Karin with the 6mm oval eyes.

I wish my eye order would get here. Jenny at Safrindoll sent me an email a few days ago saying the eyes were ready to ship when she noticed one eye had a large air bubble. She recast the eye and the order shipped today. It should be here by Friday.

 

I love my new Elf girl. looking at her in different lighting, she's telling me more about her faceup. but, I never know until I start painting. the doll knows all.
but, she's wonderful unpainted. I like the eyes they sent with her. they just need re-positioning.

I love Karin's blank sculpt, @petiteballerine ! I can't wait to see how you paint her.

I had problems painting my first two girls. There seemed to be a slippery spot on the resin above the left eyebrow on both of them that wouldn't take color. After wiping off two face-ups I gave the faces a good wash and a light sanding, then sprayed with MSC and repainted. Worked like a charm.

I just realized that Karin looks like a girl I knew in college.

 

Could one of you possibly post a comparison of Karin and an msd from a different company? I have Unoas, Doll Chateau, and DiM, so any of those would be great but anything helps. I'm wondering if their heads are smaller than the average MSD since their proportions look more realistic?

EDIT: Nevermind, checked a few pages back and saw the comparison shot.

 

Karin's new eyes from Safrin Doll have arrived. I'm not sure which color these are--Jenny didn't label the envelopes this time--but I think they might be wintergreen. They're 6mm. Small iris option is not available in this size.

Her wig is a Wendy from Monique.

 

those wintergreen (or whatever) eyes are beautiful. I sort of like the slightly big eyes unless the character is the glarey-starey type.

I think her eyes are seated incorrectly. I had a lot of trouble placing the left eye--for some reason it won't align with the right. The result is the pupils appear to be different sizes. I'm not sure why her color looks different this time. Different background? Different wig color and style? No dress to distract and/or throw off the color? Much as I hate to hide her elf ears, she does look better in this photo. I'm crocheting a dress, which I have to try on her after every other row to make sure it will fit, which is why she's undressed in the photo.

 

These eyes are a charm, they gave her a sweeter look, without softning her top much. Congrtas on the gorgeus doll.

I had such fun painting my elf Karin the other day, wanting rather dark, stern looking eyebrows. but, I didn't want angry battling caterpillar brows.
so...back to the drawing board. literally, since I use that set flat to paint on.

 

Karin has a new wig--an Evelyn by Monique Gold. It's one of the wigs that Facets by Marcia has labeled as "Clearance" so I have a feeling it will disappear as Marcia's stock runs out.

She says her name is Lynn'a and she's a Dalish Elf. (I'm playing Dragon Age Origins for the umpteenth time)

I'm not sure if she's going to shred the work in my studio or she's just sharpening that sword. maybe she's impatient for me to finish painting it?

I found a brown-streaked blonde wig for Lynn'a that I like.
her eyes are a bit big, but the small iris/pupil ones I have in 8mm are too small. too stare-y.
at least she's easy to fit shoe-wise.
Now, I need to darken her facial tatts a bit and bedazzle her dagger.

Amazing wig, @skyealloway ! What kind of yarn is it? How did you manage to comb it out?

 

@skyealloway - yes, she has a diamond on one earlobe and a dark stud on the tip of her other ear. tacky glue.
her dagger will be blinged out with tacky glue too. holds well and is easily removed.
I even painted her companion. (Batchix Dark Elf in peachskin)
pics when I get time to pose them in some nice light.

 

@skyealloway - I think I have some yarn labeled "homespun". I haven't used it for anything, but now I'll definitely cut a piece and see how well it frays. Thanks!

Finished a new dress for Lucia. The bodice is crochet; the skirt is perhaps challis--it was a remnant, the label is gone--cut into a simple square. Easy peasy!

I don't know if you've seen, but creature doll has announced that they're closing due to poor sales.

 

I am so sad with the recent announcement ;__; I really want a Lucia, but... I just was too shy to order her since I was worried about her looking very pinheaded next to my other dolls. Awhile back Vermont Chick did some lovely comparisons of Creature Doll's girls next to a Withdoll Angela and Egon, which I really appreciate, but does anyone have any dolls such as Souldoll, Unoa, etc. in the msd scale they can show side-by-side with a Creature Doll girl for me as well? Angela is on the small side so I am worried she might look good but the rest won't.... Egon looks a bit off for my tastes, which makes me a little worried since I also have a Souldoll Ariana and Junia, with plans for some Unoas, but... since we can still email to put in a full payment order, well... I just thought I'd ask since I don't want to regret not getting Lucia and digging more into it.

I'm so sad that we're losing Creature Doll, though. They are some of the prettiest doll's I've seen. I hope they keep making dolls later on in some capacity.

I'm tempted but it's bad timing for my bank account.

 

I emailed him last night telling how sorry I was that he has to close and asked if I could buy Mei if I paid in full right away. It looks like he decided to reopen for general sales for one more week to everyone which is super nice. It wasn't a good time for it, but I always planned to buy her and would be so sad if she never comes back.

Trying to figure out if I can swing a Lucia or Angela in tan skin too...I really regret putting off ordering.

 

I was honestly concerned this might happen, since there's been so little activity here and on their Q&A. Such a shame, though, after all the effort he put into this, and they're nice quality sculpts too! I wonder if the problem was not enough exposure, or if people just aren't interested in fantasy dolls in this size?

 

I suspect it's not enough exposure. I don't know if Iplehouse has had as much success with their vampires as they have with the normal FIDs, or if Raccoon's elf heads are popular, but if all 3 makers offered them there must be some perceived interest.

I think I'm going to order Lilith.

I just discovered this company maybe 30 minutes ago from writing this and I'm so sad because I've always wanted a mature MSD and Creature Doll makes the perfect body scult I've spent hours of my life trying to find! It's very unfortunate the sales were poor, reading his closing post broke my heart. I'm having to wait for new cards being shipped to me this week so fingers crossed one of them arrives before his final close, I really want to support him and have one of those gorgeous ladies before they'r gone for good.

 

If you get the money slightly too late, after the orders close, I'd suggest emailing him and see if you can still buy one/get an invoice or something. They'll be cancelling and refunding layaways if it's not paid by March 31st or so, I think...? So there might be a chance.

@skyealloway - I think you should get Mei a body. I almost ordered a Creature Doll body for a floating Raccoon elf head, except that she would always need to wear a high neck dress or a scarf to hide the fact that the resins don't match. I wouldn't trust myself to try painting the head to match the resin, even if my elf head didn't already have a company face-up.

 

I was thinking of ordering my gift Mei a body too, but it looks like only full dolls are available, so I'm eyeing Lilith or Angela. Or... as silly as it would be, I might go for a third Lucia because the lovely faceup on my tan girl doesn't suit the character I wanted for her, but I would hate to wipe it (she looks so good in that velvet gown too). Plus, I could consider opening the eyes a little more again. Also disappointed I never got to order the cutlass.

If you've made up your mind, but it looks like the cards aren't going to arrive in time, I'd say don't wait until after the close to contact him. He might prefer to let you go ahead and submit your order yourself rather than putting it in after the site's closed. Oh, and if you want heel feet, don't forget to add them to your order! They're not part of the basic package. Good luck either way!
