Creature Doll! Armored Beauties ready for Adventure

Feb 26, 2017

    1. Saireth is trying out something casual as we move into fall...and as I fall further and further behind on my crafting list! Looks like that new sorceress gown will be a Christmas present instead of a Halloween outfit...

    2. Got the mini CD swords I ordered today, and they all look nicely made and painted! I may try to get a pic of them later.

    3. @Sianserais - I want to see pics, too.

My order of combat boots and high heel shoes arrived yesterday. I wish there were boots with a more feminine look to them, but these fit very well so I'm happy. I now have the heel shoes in all 3 colors so Mei can have her pick.

    4. NEW post by creature doll on twitter! “Lucia brown skin & remake”. cteaturedoll on Twitter

      Squee for brown skin!

    5. Ooh, Lucia looks good in brown skin! Thanks for the link, @skyealloway .

I wish creature doll would make basic versions of his earlier limited dolls.

    6. is Creature doll taller than Raccoon girls? according to stats on the two sites Creature would be half a cm taller, but I don't trust
      company measurements.
I know there have been pics of comparisons, but it's hard to tell. exact measurements are more helpful.

also a question about ordering. if you click 'no layaway' it's $20.00.
layaway shows $50.00 as payment but you have 3 payments so I'm confused.

      thanks for any info.

      *_*

    7. What are you looking at buying? I purchased my doll on layaway but the math added just fine. Sounds like wherever page you are on might have an error. Just send creature doll a message about it, they respond quickly.

    8. Hi @skyealloway - on the order page of basic doll. LUCIA[45cm]

basic doll, brown, no makeup, layaway -$300 -280 total = $50
      no layaway +$20
not ordering right now, but rather odd.

      love the Elf ears.

    9. OMG, yes! She looks great with the new resin and faceup! Now I'm seriously going to have to think about replacing my first Lucia with a tan version... Or maybe keep both, since they'll definitely look different.

@petiteballerine: Odd - The number on "no layaway" comes from any additional cost of the options you choose. The number on "layaway" is that number subtracted from the 300. But since the base cost is $330, and it's not clear what the point is, I do suggest asking what that's about.

Edit: Mei got a new faceup too? She looks less cheerful now, but I won't miss the heavy blush.

    10. It's amazing how many resin doll creators are now out there! First time I heard of this company as well. Will be checking them out.

    11. Woooaaahhh :o ! @Sianserais you are right! All the basic line dolls have had a total refresh of thier product listings! Thier original versions can still be seen on the clothing page. They all look so glamorous now! I love it! And brown skin is only $20 more yay!

@petiteballerine i think I figured it out. Ok- if you select basic doll $330 then select no on the other two options, your layaway shows “no layaway $0/ layaway -$300) And then first payment is $30. If you select brown skin then it gets added to first payment comes up $50, or $100 if you select both brown skin and faceup.

Still kind of odd that the 1st payment is so low, But the math does work!

      EDIT
      I made a comparison collage!

    12. Love the new face-ups, with the exception of Mei's red eyebrows. I wonder if CreatureDoll hired a new face-up artist? The style is completely different. I'm tempted to get a second Lucia, this time with company face-up. She'd look completely different from my first one.

I can't wait to see your collage, @skyealloway - Flickr is having issues at the moment so I can't access it.

      • x 1
    13. You're right - the total below seems to have the correct math, though I also wonder if they really intended that first payment to be so low. It's just the number in the parenthesis that doesn't make sense. I wonder if that negative on the 300 is just a typo, and it's supposed to be adding it all together.

    14. Did anyone order Alisa?

I was about to order myself some swords, when it occurred to me that creature dolls first anniversary is coming up, plus the holidays, plus Alisa’s preorder just ended. I better hold off in case there is a special event or a new doll I need!

    15. That's a good question. I've pretty much decided to order a tan Lucia regardless, but it would be nice if some new clothing showed up before I do, since I don't know many other places to get something in the right fit.

    16. Has anyone tried a leekeworld 4/5 size wig? Thinking about ordering one...

    17. I have a couple of Leekeworld 5/6 wigs. Judging by the way they fit, I would expect 4/5 to be too tight. While the 5/6 is a perfect fit, be very wary of short styles from them. The hair is stiff and sticks out where it should lie flat. Looks like a really bad haircut.

    19. Designs by Jude has a Veterans Day coupon code on her Facebook. I bought two patterns to try :)

    20. Why do my favorite doll companies all offer new dolls at the same time? I love CreatureDoll Angela, love her gown, love her hair. Want her in the brown skin. I would order her immediately but I'm waiting for Iplehouse to release the new FIDs. I can only afford one doll. This is torture.

    21. Just saw New Doll - [CREATURE DOLL] 45cm BASIC DOLL 'ANGELA'
Lol @vermont chick its a hard doll decision! I like Angela ok, she has a unique face that I think could look really nice with a variety of faceups and styles. I definitely think a tan skin would be great for her. I don’t think I like her more than some of the other releases thou. I’m surprised another basic doll is out, I expected something different. A Christmas event or something. Still time for one I suppose.:eusa_pray

    22. Does anyone here have other MSDS, with slightly bigger heads, and can snap a few comparison pics for me by chance?
I saw Lucia and she's so, so pretty (and I've also been tempted by Raccoon Doll's elf Daisy... elves are my weakness), but I already have a Withdoll Angela who is 41cm/12mm eyes/16cm (6") head and wears a 6-7 wig and I'm not sure how strange she might look next to a fashion sized bjd...? I've also wanted to get some Souldolls/Unoa, who I believe are close to Angela's size (albeit perhaps a smidge bigger, as Angela's head is a bit small even for typical Withdolls).

I want all of my bjds to exist in the same world so they have to look at least.... passable next to each other |D; Angela is like, my golden child so if it doesn't look okay next to her (let alone the other dolls...), I'll have to refrain, so I thought it was worth asking.

    23. I think bjd with 6/7 heads look ok next to fashion bjds. I have a Souldoll MSD boy that wears 6/7. I will get a photo for you this evening.

    24. Thankyou, that would be lovely!
(btw, does the name under your username refer a Elder Scrolls oc? :D Figured I'd ask, since it looks like an orc name and follows their naming patterns)

    25. @Epona - Here is a comparison photo of my CreatureDoll Lucia with WithDolls Egon and Angela.
In my opinion Angela works with CreatureDoll because her facial features are smaller than other WithDoll sculpts, like Egon's.

      • x 1
    26. Oo, Angela is lovely too! I'm sticking to my plan of getting a tan Lucia at the moment, but I wouldn't mind picking up that dress and wig.

@vermont chick : I know - that new FID body is even tempting me, and I don't plan on making a large collection in this size... If Iplehouse does more fantasy FIDs, though, all bets may be off.

Edit: Before I post on their Q&A, does anyone happen to know if heel feet are included now with a doll order? If it says on the site, I can't find it.

    27. @Sianserais - I don't think the heel feet are included automatically. You could try adding the heel feet to your doll order, but it's probably best to ask first. Otherwise you could end up with an extra pair of feet. I was surprised by how high Creature Doll's heel feet are. They're stiletto high!

It doesn't sound like there are any fantasy FIDs in this next batch, but I'm definitely on board for more elf sculpts. :3nodding:

@skyealloway - I would have expected something more for Christmas, too. Maybe there will be something in mid-December.

    28. Oh that doesn't look bad at all! Thankyou! :D I'll have to keep her in mind -- Lucia is so tempting... I was promising myself that I should get Asherah a brother first (Withdoll Aiden) or my dark elf character (Souldoll Kuu) so I will have to take it one step at a time, but this is very useful, thankyou!

    29. Say, did anyone else see this notice, or am I the only one who didn't realize it wasn't just the faceups that changed on two of the dolls? I don't mind the difference - Lucia's still my favorite so far, and this will just make my second even more unique.
LUCIA & LILITH Head RenewalNotice - CREATURE DOLL

I've posted the question, and left it public while I was at it, so anyone should be able to see the answer. ^_^

      • x 1
    30. Ooh, I hadn't noticed that! I love the smaller eyes. The reshaped jaw gives the entire face a slimmer look. The girls will work much better with my FID and Raccoon ladies. More temptation--just what I needed.;)

    31. I missed that notice too! But I honestly thought something was magic with the faceup change, in particular lillith’s eyes lol. Lucia is my favorite as well. I kind of liked the eyes bigger....that’s ok I suppose .

    32. Okay, so the answer is that basic dolls only come with Type1 flat feet by default, so we were correct.

I like both versions about equally, but they definitely seem to be expressing different personalities. Wonder why the change? ...At least it's easier to mod eyes larger than smaller, if you wanted to, right?
Generally, I tend to prefer my dolls with slightly larger-than-realistic eyes (just not huge ones), but it depends on the overall look.

    33. So I just spent the last hour or so wandering around the house going, "Didn't I order you heel feet? I swear I ordered you feet with those swords. I would never have ordered you shoes and not feet. So WHERE ARE THEY?"
I remember setting them aside, still in the bubblewrap, white I was checking out the weapons. They're not with Lucia, not with her extra hands, not in my drawer of appendages, or in the box of 1/4 size clothing, or around my desk, or even in the stack of packing materials waiting to be reused... I can't find them ANYWHERE and I'm starting to think I accidentally tossed them out somehow. :doh
Now watch - if I order her a new pair, the first ones will magically reappear. :|

Also - looks like there are some cute new wigs on the site? And Mei's outfit seems to be available again.

Edit: Finally ordered my tan Lucia! Plus extras.

    34. @Sianserais - Congrats on your tan Lucia order! I can't wait to see how the tan looks in owner photos. Do you have a tan FID or Raccoon girl you can compare with her when she arrives?

Also hope you find your heel feet. I lose stuff like that all the time. Something I had in hand one week will disappear the next and I won't find it again for months. I've also been known to paw through the same box multiple times before something turns up, right there where it was supposed to be. If you stop looking for them, maybe you'll suddenly remember where you put them.

    35. YOU guys ahhhhhhhhhhh ReRelease - Priestess Armor set resale

      Ahhhhhhhhhhhh:aeyepop:

Congrats @Sianserais ! I’ve lost stuff like that before. You start loosing your mind, husband looks at you like a crazy person. Terrible. Hope you find them. A tan Lucia is in my eyes too. New outfits are up too. So very tempted...

I kind of want a boy to go with my gal. I wonder if creature Doll has one planned... other compatible size males just aren’t “right” to me.... and as soon as I get one a better one will probably come out ugh.

    36. @vermont chick : Sorry, my only other 1/4 scale dolls right now are my JIDs. Raccoon doll still fails to interest me, and while I do like some of the FID sculpts, I probably won't really be tempted unless they do a mini Elf-Grace. I think I've convinced myself I don't need mini-versions of dolls I already own. (Plus, the FIDM body is too big/muscular for the character I would want one for right now.)

@skyealloway : Oh, that's awesome! Though I don't think I would use the armor itself, sadly, I notice the clothing part of her fullset is available separately, and I really like that one. Might have to see if I can add it to my order...

    38. Back when taewong sent me a new staff, he also included new elastic that he said was better. Well, I finally got tired of her flopping about and switched to the new string he sent. I felt the arms were fine so I left that alone. But i tell you what, restringing is no joke! My fingers hurt, my husband had to help, but she’s back in one piece! I’m nervous that she is too tight now and wish I had had longer string. But she certainly stands very sturdy now! :thumbup

I also made “Clam Bake” a Designs by Jude pattern for FID. I mostly bought it for the pants, because I struggle with drafting my own pants patterns. Well, that struggle will continue because these pants aren’t great: saggy waist, butt hangs out when she sits. :vein The shirt isn’t great either, too loose in the neck. It’s OK I guess but I don’t know that I will ever make this shirt again.
      “Clam Bake” Designs by Jude

I have another pattern to try, this time a dress.

      • x 3
    39. @skyealloway - I also have the Clam Bake pattern. I've only made the top so far (that's what I bought it for). Mine doesn't look as nice as yours, mainly because I didn't quite understand how it goes together. I made it for FID--I should probably try it on one of my Creature Dolls to see how it looks.

    40. Thank you! The top was confusing for sure. I even sewed the pants wrong several times (probably because I was like “I know how to put together pants!” And didn’t follow the instructions well).

Show us a picture of how yours turned out!

    41. I've tried twice to post a link but I can't get it to work. Here's the photo. Sorry if she's not a Creature Doll.
I took this pic on a very hot day last summer. The doll looks as frazzled as I felt at the time.

Which dress pattern did you buy?

    42. She’s beautiful! I like the colors of your outfit. You top looks good! I had to go look at my pattern, it’s Outlander Claire. I just now opened it up and started looking at it. Seems like it comes with a pattern for a panier as well!

In other news, I had a brilliant idea to make her hard cap wig stay on- I layered two silicone caps underneath! Just one wasn’t enough, but two and it’s a perfect non-slip snug fit!

    43. Okay, finally got around to getting some pics of the swords. Hope these are still useful to someone!
We don't have a photo-spam thread for this maker, do we? I know we're usually supposed to limit our photos in the discussion threads, but I don't know where else to put these at the moment.

    44. Ahhh thank you @Sianserais ! Lucia looks amazing in the Period Threads gown, :D I’ve been eyeing one of those. Lol that’s a lot of swords! I’m thinking about getting the skinnier long sword and knife, they look like a matched pair to me.

So I have those swords, the heel feet, black heels, the more closed hands, and the little black dress in my cart... but I kind of want to add the mei dress...and the limited Priestess dress.... and the red dress. :?:chomp:

    45. @skyealloway - I've been tempted to buy the Outlander Claire pattern, but I'm holding out for the Outlander Claire Fraser pattern currently available for Ellowyne Wilde (and probably some other sizes). I've made the Stargazer evening gown for my FID. I'll try it on Mei and see how it looks.

@Sianserais - I lost track of the photo spam threads after the big computer changeover. Now I can't find anything. I suppose someone could start a new thread in the Main Photo Gallery. It doesn't seem to fit the other categories.

Love your Lucia's gown!:love I have a pattern for a similar gown from Affordable Designs but it is absolutely the worst pattern I have ever used and resulted in a completely unwearable garment. I think this is the pattern Robyn (Period Threads) started with and had to redesign extensively.

    46. I know that feeling. This is why I keep joking that I should be worried about a coup - my resins have plenty of miniature weaponry. Technically, the blades are all different styles, but I agree those two should look good together.
And just a note - I did have to take her head off to get the dress on because her ears were going to poke holes in the fabric. Other than that, it fits nicely!

I wouldn't be surprised, she really seems to have a knack for that!
I know they moved the photo-spam threads into the Photo Reference section not that long ago, but most of them aren't getting much attention, and I don't think we ever had one for Creature Doll, unless I missed it.

    47. Photo Reference! If the threads there aren't getting attention, it's probably that people don't know where to look for them. Must admit it never occurred to me.

    48. Hey girls! I ordered two new wigs from Facets by Maria and the style “Navajo” looks great with her ears! The other style I got, alexia I think? Is ok but I fussed so long getting all the wispy bits on Navajo straight that I didn’t feel like taking it off lol
      Facets by Maria “Navajo”

    49. That is cute! Which reminds me, I bought a Navajo wig a while back for one of my other dolls that didn't end up working out. Shame it's too big for this girl.

    50. I also bought the Navajo wig for another doll, the same size as Creature Doll. Unfortunately, the braid started coming apart. I finally gave up trying to re-braid it. One of my other dolls is wearing it loose, which is a shame because I really like the braid.

    51. @Sianserais - I love the photo of your beautiful gal wearing the pale blue fantasy gown!!
Just a note about putting the gown onto a doll — it is meant to go onto the doll from the feet -
slip up over hips - slide the doll’s arms into the sleeves - and then pull up onto the shoulders.
The fabric is wonderfully stretchy and resilient so can go on/off many times easily. I am *so*
sorry that I didn’t make note of that to you when you got the gown, and that you had to
remove her lovely head to get it on....
(my web site does have directions for these gowns - under ‘Fit Models’ at the bottom of page)

@vermont chick - you are correct about the origin of this design - in about 2003/4 I bought
one of those patterns and quickly realized it needed lots of rework. Over the years I’ve redesigned
the pattern significantly and in multiple sizes, now the only remaining similarity is the number of gores!

Where ever do you get those *amazing* swords?? They are incredible!!

      • x 1
    52. I honestly didn't think it was going to go over her hips that way, but maybe next time. It really wasn't that much of a problem (if her ears weren't so sharp it would have been fine either way), but thanks for the info! I love the color on her, in any case. ^_^ And the swords are Creature Doll's creations too.

    53. Sorry for the double-post, but could anyone please tell me what orientation my photos above are appearing in for them? They're showing vertically for me, but it seems that might not be the case for all browsers.

    54. They're vertical for me.:thumbup

    55. @Sianserais - vertical for me in Firefox on the Mac laptop
—- horizontal in safari on the iPad

    56. @Sianserais your photos are always horizontal/sideways to me and kind of stretched out looking. I use my iPhone.

    57. Interesting. My photos are just standard JPG encoding, far as I can tell, so I wonder if it's something about the way LJ saves them or entirely a browser thing. Thanks for the info, all!

    58. I could have sworn someone else bought Creature Doll's new medieval gown but I don't see it. Mine arrived today, minus the ribbon to lace it up in back. Luckily I have narrow ribbon in every color--for just such an occasion. I also bought the deep gold wig with braided rounds, which looks the same as the Ariella wig sold by Facets. It doesn't stay on very well, however; I ended up giving mine to one of my Raccoons, who have a slightly smaller head.
