Creature Doll! Armored Beauties ready for Adventure

Oh dang I had never heard of Creature Doll before! I'm super sad I missed the Priestess Eve preorder period, I'm a big Warhammer 40,000 universe fan and she's a perfect Sister of Battle!

 

That's interesting to know. I was actually more disappointed he couldn't wear the Leeke boots, since I bought them for him, originally. ...but now I'm getting off topic.

 

@Sianserais - This is why I have a graveyard of all the ill-fitting shoes I've bought over the years. I don't dare part with any of them, because the minute I do I'll buy a doll that could have worn them.

@skyealloway - Bummer! I recently bought eyes but didn't think I needed any 8mm. Guess I'll have to shop again.

 

@skyealloway - That's unfortunate. I hope you have contacted Creature Doll--with photos. Whether or not he can do anything, he needs to be made aware of the problem. Magnets shouldn't be falling out after such a short time. Maybe Mr. Park will have some suggestions for fixing them. Hope so!

 

The wigs are pretty, @skyealloway - I like the alpaca best. I'm glad to hear Taewong Park contacted you about the magnets. If you hadn't emailed him yet, do you think he's been reading this thread? Hope you can get the magnet situation straightened out.

Lilith is very pretty. I'd be tempted, but I'm still waiting for Lucia so I won't order just yet. Although, free shipping is a definite plus. I'm tempted to order the heel feet for Lucia. There is a pair of red high heel shoes up for sale, with the feet shown in them. I don't know--they're pretty high. I can tell the feet won't work with any other shoes I have.

I love the red sorcerer's dress but that zipper pull is way out of scale. I guess that's what the short cape is for--to hide the pull!

 

It never occurred to me that there was a thread here for Creature Doll ><

That new red mage dress is amazing! If it's still available in Septemberish I'm totally going to get it with my Mei.
I'm really regretting not asking if I could get a second Phyllis head though D:

 

Heel feet are a nice option, anyway! I'll have to consider that. I think I like Mei better than Lilith as well, but that red dress is lovely. I'm kind of sad I missed Eve now, since she's my second favorite so far, but I didn't really have any use for that armor. I did appreciate seeing actual protective armor on a female doll for a change, though!


skyealloway: Oh, that was nice of him! Good luck with those pesky magnets! And yes, the Alpaca wig looks very nice on her - I might have to keep that idea in mind. ^_^

I was thinking blue and red maybe? Or a dark silver? I do know that I want to stain the dowel part of the staff a wood colour, rather than painting it something. :s

My Lucia has shipped! She will arrive blank, with no clothing or shoes, but at least I have wigs and may be able to scrounge a pair of 8mm eyes to tide her over until my Safrindoll order arrives. I had to put in a second order because the first time I got only 6mm and 10mm. Now to pray for good weather, because I can't do a face-up if it's raining...

Can't wait to see what you can do with a light tent. I've been tempted for years to get one. What size did you order? Are you getting only the tent, or the photo lamps too?

 

Wow, that should be great! I'm sure it will be big, but hopefully it will fold neatly so you can carry it. One woman in my local doll group sometimes brings her two photography lights to our meet-ups. It makes photo-taking so much easier, especially when you get stuck displaying dolls in one of the darker corners of the room!

 

Wow, that will be pretty big! Hope you'll share how it works for you. ^_^ Since most of my resins are in the 60-70cm range, I opted for diffusion filters that attach to the lights instead, myself, but I'm not sure they function as well.

@skyealloway - Looking at your photo I'd say you want a size 4/5.

I have a few tiny wig caps. If one of them fits--and if I can remember where I bought it--I'll let you know.

I just took another look at Creaturedoll's Twitter account. Those WIP photos are from February and show Lucia and Phyllis.

 

Not only is my Lucia on her way, it looks like she'll be delivered today. Can't wait to see her.

She arrived shortly before noon. The outer box was crushed but everything inside was okay. I've been trying things on her with only half as much luck as I expected. I had hoped she could wear an elf outfit I made for a WithDoll girl but it didn't fit. On the other hand, a dress I made for a different WithDoll girl did fit. Go figure. I still need to try on stuff I acquired and/or made for my Raccoons and FIDs.

As for shoes, most of the ones that are long enough are too wide, or else they're heels and she can't stand in them. Why oh why do these ex-Iplehouse sculptors continue to sculpt Iplehouse ankles? A real ball joint in the ankle would make a world of difference in posing and stability. The shoes that fit best are cheap bow flats I bought years ago--I think I got them from Denver Doll.

I'm waiting for the rain to stop before I take photos. Long range forecast is for rain and more rain. I keep thinking I see a hint of sunshine in the sky but I suspect I'm delusional. I want to take pics! I want to do a face-up! I need sun!

I get all my wig caps from Taobao but DDE has them in all sizes.

 

Sun is shining today! But will it last long enough for me to do a face-up? I took some photos, including size comparison with Raccoon Doll and Iple's FID. Below are Raccoon Mika, Creature Lucia, and FID Miho. Miho is the only one in heels, so it's not a true height comparison, but I didn't want to fuss with trying to change her to flat feet.

Lucia's dress is a bit short--it's one I made for the shorter WithDoll girls.
I'll take more photos, including with other size dolls, after Lucia is faced-up.
Forgot to mention that I changed her eyes to 6mm. I like this size on her--regrettably I didn't put them in straight.

 

Thanks! Lucia's 6mm eyes are oval, which appears to be the only way to get small eyes without gaps at the sides.

I haven't bought any pants for my girls. I made a pair for my slim body Raccoon girls; they came out a little short so I may try again. I just bought a pattern for FID girls. They're for capri pants so they might work for everyone, depending on whether or not the hips fit. Raccoon has two different girl bodies: the original glamour body which has wide hips and the newer slim body which has a slightly larger waist but narrower hips and thighs. Finding one pattern to work for all four bodies is a challenge! Creature Doll's hip measurement is exactly the same as Raccoon's slim body hips, but CD's waist is almost 3cm smaller than FID's and CD's chest is almost exactly in between Raccoon's large and small chests. You can see the problem for making something fit.

Both my Raccoon girl and my FID came with default face-ups. After a while I decided to redo Miho's face-up, so what you see is my work. I actually like it better than her original makeup. Weather forecast promises sunshine by Wednesday, so I hope I can get to Lucia's face-up then.

 

Wow, I've never heard of this company before but those full sets are gorgeous! I'm gonna have to go look around now....usually mature looking dolls aren't really my thing, but these girls are amazing!

 

Still no face-up, but at least I can give you all a closer look at her facial sculpt.

I have now done 2 and 1/2 face-ups on Lucia--and I'm about to wipe her once again and start over. There is a slippery spot above one eye that won't take color, no matter how much Mr. Super Clear I spray. Doesn't matter if I use pastel or watercolor pencil, I've ruined her eyebrows three times because the color won't stick. I hope that if I sand that area gently next time before spraying I'll get enough tooth to work with. If that doesn't do it, I'll have to send her to someone who has an airbrush. Super frustrating.

 

Is it like, the exact same spot? It could be some extra residue from the casting process?
Maybe a little extra cleaning on that spot?

 

Exact same spot each time. After I cleaned her again I went over that area lightly with a wet sanding sponge and that seems to have taken care of it. I'll take photos tomorrow when I have better light.

My Iplehouse Luna had that problem too, right under one of her eyes. Even if I used the air brush the colour would want to pool. I was so nervous since she was one of my first dolls (but the first one I did a faceup on) I though I was going to ruin her if I rubbed too much.. D:

Doing a face-up that small is incredibly hard. It looks great to the naked eye, then you take a photo and OMG, awful! But I've done her a total of 4 times and that's it. I'm done. I've also taken a bunch of comparison pics with other mini mature dolls. If you click on the link to my photo, I think it will take you to a point where you can see the others, too.
Her dress is from Raccoon Doll. It's a little big in the hips as it was designed on his original body, which is somewhat pear shaped.

 

Thanks! It's funny, Angela came to me in partial payment for a big sale. Otherwise I never would have bought a doll in that resin color. (I think she's supposed to be their Rosy Brown but to me she looks more like their UV Dark Grey.) Now she's one of my favorite WithDolls.

I need to sew an elf outfit for Lily. I thought she could wear an outfit that I originally made for WithDoll Ruby, but the cropped top is too short. The only elf outfits I didn't make are Egon's and Ruby's. Egon's came from Soul Doll (which is why the pants are too long). Ruby's blouse and long tunic were part of an outfit from The Franklin Mint for their Laurel, Empress of the Elves vinyl doll. The bottom didn't fit with the tunic so I made leggings.

Yeah, the Iplehouse FID guys are huge. The advantage is that you can pair them with any of the small head girls and the guys will be taller. I wish they came with a choice of bodies, because I now have a very beefy male chorus line.

 

I checked Twitter and don't see anything new. Maybe he has removed it since you looked?

In case anyone is thinking of ordering the red heels: I placed an order over the weekend and got an email back from Mr. Park saying that everything in my order was sold out. He has indeed marked the shoes Sold Out, but I also ordered the heel feet and they're not showing unavailability.

 

You mean the swords? I was looking for a doll head. I never even looked at swords.

Yeah, I think he made a mistake about the heel feet. I'll wait and order them with my next doll, because shipping on just a pair of feet would probably cost more than the feet themselves.

Has anybody ordered Mei? I'm awfully tempted to take advantage of the free shipping while it's available.

 

I'm tempted by the free shipping offer although I can't decide which of the girls I like best. Mei has a sweet face but I'm not sure if I see her as a sword wielding adventurer, and I'd want to stick with the fantasy theme. (I'm also quite excited by the progress pic of the sword! )

Out of curiousity please could someone tell me if a 5-6" wig fits closely, or if there would be any chance of using a 4-5" wig? The site doesn't give an actual head measurement.

I tried a 4- 5 Monique Gold wig on Lily (my Lucia). It's really stretchy but I still couldn't get it to stay on her head. Part of the reason may be the elf ears. Maybe if someone has a 4-5 wig and a girl with human ears they could try it for you.

I just got a new Monique 5-6" wig for my Lucia and it fits very snugly, so I wouldn't expect a 4-5" to work.


(I didn't feel like swapping out her hands, so I used a bit of putty to hold the knives.)

Also definitely interested in those swords! Hopefully I can order those with a pair of heel-feet if nothing else.

I left a comment on your Flickr, @skyealloway . Agree that the small, bright eyes make her look evil. I haven't tried any of my new Safrin eyes in Lily, but I'm having the evil eye problem in my Raccoon girls. FID Grace doesn't look too bad in them.

I took Lily to a local doll meet-up on Saturday. Here she is with my Lumedoll Meissa boy. Lily is wearing an outfit I made to coordinate with Meissa's. Too bad it's not a full-length photo, because I also made shoes (which didn't come out half bad, if I do say so myself).

Thanks! Too bad you can't see the rest of her skirt. I'll have to find another pic. People sat up and took notice when I showed them how posable her arms are. Those split elbow peanuts are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
By the way, which Monique wig is your Lucia wearing in the photo above? Is it the Pixie? Or something else?

Thanks! I think the evil eye results from Safrin's exceptionally bright, vivid colors. The colors they call "Natural" aren't too bad; the ones they call "Bold" are electrifying! I don't know who will get stuck with my Bold Juicy Pear--they are totally worthy of an Evil Queen.

Oh, it's apparently a brand new one called Snow. I didn't realize it was so new when I found it on ebay, but then I got an update e-mail from Monique two days ago and there it was, so... My only complaint is that it's supposed to be white and blue, but the white is a little yellowed for some reason. I have some of the side locks pulled back with a clip in that photo, in case it isn't obvious.
