Creature Doll! Armored Beauties ready for Adventure

Feb 26, 2017

    1. @skyealloway - I left body comments on your comparison thread. I have to agree she wears Creature Doll clothes well, but those big hands have to go. I wish I could think of a good alternative. WithDoll hands are probably too small, plus they join on with magnets rather than s-hooks. They are preparing to release a new girl body, however, so it will be interesting to see what changes they will make with hands, if any. Because WithDoll does a lot of fantasy dolls, you get hands that can hold various weapons. Luts Model Delf girl hands look like a good size, but the only hands they sell separately are fist-like, so no hope of clasping a sword, and they attach via resin hook. You can probably forget about color matching there, too, as their normal is very pale. Same with Dollmore Kid and Judith hands. Normal is very pale, and despite numerous hand positions there doesn't appear to be anything that will hold a sword.

    2. Oh good ideas @vermont chick ! I hadnt considered looking into withdoll, or dollmore, or Luts, but sounds like withdoll is most likely to have an alternative. I see iplehouse has some hands for FID listed separately too so I’m considering that as well.

    3. Ah! I did it! Well first I got jumpy and saw that I gal I know IRL was selling spare MSD hands on the marketplace so I bought those..... FYI Soom MSD hands are much much much bigger :doh

But! Then I watched some modding you tube videos and gathered up my courage and BAM! My Doll Family A body can use my spare creature doll hands!

What I did was I determined there were two issues to fix- 1 the socket on the arm was too deep for the ball on the hands and 2 the shape of the lower arm was flared out toward the wrist, creating a weird unnatural look when paired with the smaller hands.

So I filled in the socket with some 2 part putty (Fixit stick) and used a straw to shape the string hole and a eye bevel tool to keep the socket round. Then when it was all hardened and set I sanded the wrists down and viola!

My flikr app hasn’t worked on my phone for like a week or I’d take a picture :( hopefully I can work it from my laptop tomorro. Also I know I’m a chicken and could/should probably sand the arm down more....but I’m happy enough with the results for now :kitty2

    4. @skyealloway - I can't wait to see pics of the modded wrists. At the rate you're going you'll eventually be making your own BJDs!

    5. Thank you for your confidence @vermont chick !
It was a beautiful day here yesterday, although my photos are a bit washed out...actually it works to my advantage - the color difference in the hands and arms doesn't stand out much!

    6. Wow, @skyealloway, your wrist mods don't show at all! The hands are a little small for the body, but at least she's able to grasp her sword. I think the color only looks off because of the blushing on the face. Otherwise the hands appear to be a pretty good color match for the body.

    7. I hunger for Karin spam!

    8. Here's a warrior pic in honor of our fallen warriors on this Memorial Day.

    10. I finally named her - meet Alise!
[IMG]Jasminebjdboutique purchases by Skyealloway, on Flickr

I was browsing the marketplace the other day and noticed a Karin listed for sale. I wish I had all the monies and could buy every Creature Doll that comes up :sigh

As it is I shouldn't be thinking of buying new dolls at all, my boys are both going to pre-k this year and I'm pretty much broke :chomp: but I think I'll try to save up for a Iplehouse FID Rexy next, to round out my "fashion scale" MSD crew.

    11. Yey Alise!!! Well met

    12. Finally took a decent picture of my new space buns type wig!

    13. That's so cute! I love the way her outfit goes with the hair too. ^_^

    14. Love the space buns!

    15. Wow so beautiful.

    16. @skyealloway - Those are gorgeous! So realistic--I love how she looks in them.

    17. @skyealloway - Agreed, those look amazingly good on her! I think the name suits her too. ^_^ Thanks for sharing!

    18. I was just thinking about Creature Doll earlier today.
I am still so sad I wasn't able to get a elf Phyllis or elf Lucia in time :( I hope someday Creature Doll/Taewong will be able to make dolls again, though.

    19. Same, I really wish we could see more of the armor sets and clothing and stuff. Their bodies are also my favourites

    20. Wow. This is beautiful.

    21. Thank you :)

    22. You're very welcome.

    23. I was wondering, does anyone still know what creature doll’s email was? I’ve been mulling over the thought to send him a message on Instagram and email to see if he might receive it — I am curious if he might be willing to offer some order periods for the dolls in the future, if he still has the means to do so.

It makes me so sad. Honestly I think his company name might have been a bit too vague, since whenever I look up “creature doll” on google, it tends to come up with art dolls first and foremost. 1/4 fashion sized dolls are getting more and more popular so I wonder if he was to rebrand with small order periods, if it would help him at all - assuming, of course, it’s something he would still be willing/able to do.

      • x 1
    24. @Epona - the address I can find in my mail history is [email protected]
And I agree, the name might not have been the easiest to find. It really is a shame, with the quality of the dolls and accessories, that people didn't pay much attention to them.

      • x 1
    25. His ideas were so good. I'd love to see him return.

      • x 2
    26. Saireth doesn't get much attention, what with me acquiring so many dolls this past year, but I switched up her look some today and found a random bow and lo! she can hold it :) I think I'll repaint it though....and maybe I'll just stick with her amazing Guardian set.

She has a little gallery with her friends here: /threads/the-league-comes-together-d-d-inspired-group.836087/

      • x 1
    27. @skyealloway - It does look to be the right size! Any ideas about how you're going to repaint it? And speaking of accessories for these girls, I'm eyeing one of these...

      • x 1
    28. @Sianserais you know I forgot I owned this bow until I randomly discovered it yesterday, so I have no plans just yet. I might steal your idea that perhaps it is cursed to help inspire a new color scheme.

OMG I also was considering elf jude as a new accessory :wiggle I eventually talked myself out of it....for now.....mostly because I already bought two dolls this year and it's barely February!

    29. I'm joining the Judefest wishlist as arm candy for my armored beauty. Looking for pics of that body. wondering at proportions with our girls.

    30. @skyealloway - Well, given their habit of rereleases, I'm sure he'll be available again if you change your mind. ;) Just maybe not with that outfit.

@petiteballerine - If you mean the 51 ATH body, there's pics in their gallery if you scroll down? Good question about the proportions though. The girls are in good proportion to IH FIDs, so I'd assume the guys are too.

    31. I have comparison photos of fid with creaturedoll, and if you look in Antique Lilac's blog she has a Sartoriaj doll with FID and they are the same size basically. She does a lot of couples photos so you can get a good idea of the boys and girls together. This is my comparison photo:
      Fashion BJD Doll Comparison
There is a Raccoondoll and a Sideshow Muse in there too for good measure.

    32. To save you the trouble of scrolling through endless Blog posts, here's the link to the comparison photos of Jude with my FIDs and a Raccoon lady - Comparing
Unfortunately I don't have any Creature Dolls.

    33. Was anyone able to get ahold of the Creature Doll artist? I need to get a replacement body for Lucia (her body is currently being occupied) and another body for a head I want to order.

      I'm going to have to put out a WTB aren't I? ><

    34. Guys I am sad. I had Saireths armor packed away for over a year because I moved between a few places last year and she had a magnet that needed to be glued back. I finally decided last weekend "this is it! I will fix the armor magnet!"

I successfully glued it back in...but the pieces wouldn't fit together. Apparently the other magnet I had reglued at some point and it wasnt flush, so I couldnt assemble the armor due to how tight all the pieces fit.

Well, I pondered and decided to remove the offending magnet and try again....when suddenly the magnet on a totally different part of the armor came out.

Ugh! So frustrating! The teeny magnets are ridiculous!

I'm wondering if they are really needed at all. I feel like she can put the armor on while it's assembled. I may try to hot glue together the whole thing today....

      • x 2
    35. You could try miniature model glue. There's one from BSI that's specifically formulated for gluing in tiny magnets.
But I don't know how often you would use it after gluing the 2 tiny magnets afterward, so hot glue might be the more economical option

    36. Miniature model glue might be a worthy investment, the Guardian Phyllis set altogether contains 14 separate tiny magnets between the armor and the staff.....and whatever glue they were put in with originally is apparently breaking down.

    37. @skyealloway - Ugh, I've had a couple instances of gluing a headcap magnet in backwards and having to pry it out again. I can imagine it's even worse when they're smaller. Good luck figuring it out! Is the entire thing just held together with magnets, then? I don't think I realized that!

    38. @Sianserais hmmm sort of. Like the front and back of the armor has two magnets on each side, and each shoulder pauldron has a set of magnets that fit exactly over the connection of the front and back piece, so there is a bit more strength to the magnets that way.

I did it thou, I got mad enough to hot glue the five pieces that make up the armor together. And you know what? Seems like it's going to hold just fine. Had to remove her head to put it on but honestly that is a way easier process than assembly with all the magnets.

The staff magnets arent nearly as annoying, and those pieces fit together with like a peg and hole system with interior magnets so again, there is some extra strength.

I'm happy to have Saireth dressed up again. My human child has come down with a cold and demands mom cuddles or I would have took pictures already. Pictures soon!

    39. While I don't own a Creature Doll (yet), I must say thank you to everyone who has been posting in this thread! I live vicariously through your posts! <3

    40. I think they're my favorite MSD body.
I want to do a Want To Buy for bodies/heads but I don't even know what tag to search on Instagram for them ><

    41. I have never bought second hand off Instagram...if I post a WTB, I will post it here I think.

    42. Oh, same
I was just thinking about how big of a net I might need to cast

    43. Just a quick photo of my Lucia. I got her out of the cabinet to help me decide where to put a window in a diorama I'm making and just had to snap a quick photo

    44. I love her dress and armor!

    45. @skyealloway - Ooh, love that color wig on her. ^_^ She's looking good!

    46. Thank you! I made both the dress and the armor :D I hope to get around to making a few more pieces like maybe some hip armor and belt to match.

Thank you! I agree. I made this wig for Saireth (Phyllis) but when I tried it on Fayeth I realized the pink coloring of her face looks really good with red hair and green eyes. Can't believe it took me a whole year to notice! Lol and now I've spent the last two weeks trying to make Saireth a new wig....so far I've made two dudes but I've got another in progress so we will see how it turns out :eusa_pray

    47. Fayeth was hanging onto Roderic's hat and tome while he got a new wig made, and she looks so good I might need to make another hat!

      • x 6
    48. @skyealloway - That style of hat definitely works with her outfit! She looks a bit bemused, though. "What do you want me to be?"

    49. @Sianserais haha that's true, there's definitely not a well thought out idea behind her look....I think she's technically wearing pieces to three different types of outfits :sweat

I finally bought another pattern just the other day- Designs by Jude featuring Fletcher Pattern Company
The Designs by Jude hooded dress. It looks sort of Magical Medieval to me. I haven't made any outfits in a while and even thou I didn't quite like the other pattern of hers that I had, I think buying another will push me to make something :kitty1

    50. @skyealloway - That's a lovely design, and should be perfect for one of your girls! Good luck with it!

    51. Oooh I really like that pattern! I might have to try it...when I get brave.

    52. Saireth has stolen the Iplehouse Bibane outfit and rode out to the field with Buttercup, my Our Generation rescue horse.

    53. So I finally got around sending Mr. Taewong a message on instagram and his email and DoA account. I am not sure if he will receive any of the messages, but if I do hear back, I'll let everyone know what he says. :) But here is the following message:

"Hello Mr. Taewong! I know Creature Doll has stopped producing dolls for several years now, but I was wondering: have you ever considered doing limited runs of your dolls in the future? Such as if you had a certain amount of orders for a specific doll?

Many people miss you and your creations, so I thought it worthwhile to ask, in case it might be a possibility in the future.

I am not sure if you will receive this message due to the time has passed since closing but I hope you have been well and I look forward to hearing back from you,
      Epona"

I think Fashion Minis have become popular enough it might be easier to get more interest in his dolls these days. Creature Doll is a really cool name, but it's hard to google due to it being rather ambiguous, so it would be nice to see them open up again in the future, even if they have to rebrand under another name. I'd really like to get Lucia most of all, though I wouldn't mind eventually getting a Phyllis, Karin, and Lilith someday too.

    54. I got a new SartoriaJ elf to join Saireth as a partner in crime!
[IMG]Elf Luthien by Skyealloway, on Flickr

She still needs a name and a faceup and hair, but having a new friend is nice :)

    55. @skyealloway - Ooh, glad to see you got her! I don't have a need for her myself, but she's such an interesting sculpt! Looks like you've got some fun textures going on in that diorama too?

    56. Thanks @Sianserais , the diorama has lots of textures haha. Now its missing set dressing...and furniture. I want to make a big table that several dolls can sit at!

    57. I just purchased a creature doll Lilith secondhand. She looks very very familiar. I hope her original owner is ok, because she was sold for less than I expected to pay. Does anyone remember how much were these dolls sold for originally? I think they had already stopped producing by the time I joined the hobby. Thank you for this thread, because it is what spurred me to take the plunge! They look beautiful and like good posers. I wish she had elf ears like the others, but she is still very pretty.

    58. @kittyglitter - Congrats! Hope you'll share pics! According to my old emails, a basic blank doll cost $330, but with faceup and tan resin cost $400. I need to find/make some sort of backdrop for mine.
