CP Delf Discussion Part 13

Jun 1, 2021

    1. Finally sharing my El! This is Ambrose. He was supposed to be a sweet shy little guy but turns out he looks more like a heartbreaker than anything :lol:apparently he had his own plans!

    2. He may still be shy but wow, he's gorgeous malvinas!

    3. All these handsome boys :fangirl::fangirl::fangirl:
I'm about to bring home an unmodded NaNuRi, she's gonna be my modded Nanu's sister! So excited. Anybody have any recommendations for hybriding the famous type 2 neck connector head (or neck donut recs)? She's a beauty green, so I'm limited for resin matches and I'll be getting creative once she and her hybrid body get here. But I figure it's a good idea to ask for wisdom before I make any permanent changes to the doll lmfao. Thanks! I can't wait to share pics of my siblings together :D

      • x 1
    4. Why not both!? Hehehehe:XD: I definitely see that sweetness but yeah he also looks a little flirty! He's gorgeous! :love

    5. Congrats on the newcomer!
I have several hybrids that use these adaptors. If they happen to be a bit loose, it is nothing a bit of eye putty cannot fix.

    6. @Tonboko thank you so much! I'm glad to have a good review before I buy one.

    7. Congrats on your El, @malvinas! He's so handsome!

Oh congrats @Mamo on your NaNuRi! Do you have pics of her yet? Or a name?

Here's Feather in her new bunny hat I made recently!

    8. @SacredMonsoon She hasn't arrived yet, but i think she's going to be Vivienne! Her brother is Lasalle.
Feather's looking great in the cute new hat you made for her!

    9. @Mamo aw that's a pretty name! I can't wait to see her!!
Thank you! I've really gotten into crochet recently and have been creating lots of stuff!

    10. Still no notifications. :( But its great to see everyone's dolls! :3nodding:

It looks like Feather is ready for The Year of the Rabbit in that hat, @SacredMonsoon. :thumbup

    11. Hmmm.. what's everyone's thoughts on wiping my Soony's faceup? I bought her from here a few years ago (2015 ish?) and she still has her default faceup from Luts. I am sort of fenced on repainting her since she is such an old doll
      [IMG]

      • x 8
    12. @SkyKitty061, I like her default face-up; it's so simple and natural, and a nice example of old-school Luts CP style. Looks good with how you've styled her. Just my two cents ;)

      • x 2
    13. @SkyKitty061 I have two with original faceups and that thought comes up sometimes. I've kept their originals so far, but I see other people's dolls with such fancy faceups and get jealous occasionally. I do worry though that if I change them, they won't feel like "themselves" to me. I don't know. I don't think there's an easy answer, both ways have appeal.

    14. SkyKitty061, your Soony is so sweet as she is!
If you aren't happy with her anymore, she's definitely your doll to update if you feel the need.
Me, I'd love her as she is...
I've redone faceup on a couple of dolls, a DoD Shall went from the factory original that she'd had about 8 years (the eyeliner detail was really beginning to bug me) to a pretty natural artist faceup. And then there was a week of recovery from the shock before I could settle down & like her new look....
The other was my second oldest doll, a Volks NoNo who had a simple faceup from her previous owner that was just always right...until I realized after 12 years that she was set off by herself a lot as that simple faceup didn't go with my other dolls. Also I kept wishing for another older Volks because my friend's dolls had such pretty faceups... Last year I bit the bullet, sent her away for a faceup by a local artist & then had to deal with that week of shock adjusting to how much she had changed...but now I'm really happy with her new look.

So sometimes it's worth it but just make sure your really dissatisfied with her current look, be really sure of the artist you're choosing to redo her & be aware that there is likely to be a bit of grieving or nostalgia to overcome while adjusting to her new look. (Although that gorgeous faceup malvinas posted the other day would sorely tempt me...)

      As to value, I wonder if most folks would care if she has the original faceup if you were to sell her. Among my too many Juri2005s, I am fortunate to have one with the factory original faceup along with the luxury of having the 3 others with 3 very different artist faceup. I guess one day I'll learn if the factory original faceup makes a difference or not. ;}

    15. I have to admit, I have eight dolls out of My Crew of 29 that have factory faceups, but not all of them are human or humanoid. Most of My Crew have faceups by third party artists, and for that, I am happy. Many of them are character dolls that I had a specific mental image of, so that is why its okay with me.

However, I wish that at least one of my 10 SD-sized Delf had a factory faceup. :...(:(

I feel that you are very lucky to have a doll with one. If I was you, I would keep her as is. She is beautiful and a classic. :3nodding::thumbup:love

But the choice is up to you, of course. She's your little beauty, after all.

In the meantime, everyone! Spam us pics of your Delf BJDs with factory faceups! :D

    16. Your soony is very pretty @SkyKitty061! I think the defaults are considered special now because they're rare! But its up to you!

      [IMG]DSC_0439~2 by Emily, on Flickr

Here's Feather with her default! The awful thing was, back when i got her in 2011, people criticized the default faceup but I loved it, I never ever plan to redo Feather's faceup, its still so nice and she turns 12 on February 15th!

    17. The only original faceup I have. Juri 2005 with the star over her right eye...

Since all of my Delfs were bought second hand it seems a lot of people went for replacing faceups (or else kept the dolls with original faceups)

      • x 7
    18. You do you, but I myself love the classic Delf style ... so much so that I have either sent heads to Luts for faceups or paid others to replicate the style on my secondhand heads.

    19. I wasn't gonna say anything, but just to balance things out I'm throwing in my vote for custom faceups :XD: Obviously it's a personal decision @SkyKitty061, but I think that custom faceups are absolutely magical. If you're into your dolls as characters or little pieces of art, I think custom faceups are the way to go! I always think of company faceups as more of a collector thing, along the lines of keeping a fullset together. At this point in time Luts faceups don't really make Delfs more valuable, though some people prefer them and they definitely help prove that the doll is legit. But as more and more owners wipe the default faceups, perhaps in the future a Luts faceup will add actual value. Just some things to consider.

Here's a picture of my Dark Elf Soos with their custom faceups! :thumbup

    20. Default face up already adds value as far as I'm concerned :XD: I have definitely been willing to pay more for the defaults.

I DO collect them but it's more to do with me feeling that the defaults have so much old school charm and character to them. I just love them a lot. They give me happy feelings!

I think you're very lucky to have a default Soony. It would be hard to find another one if you wiped it and did regret it. But of course she is your doll and you must do what is best for you to enjoy her.

(Any excuse to spam Blue )

(alright, this probably wasn't the best photo to pick with her hair over her face but it's cute so)

    21. I just want to add that I didn't mean to say the default faceups aren't worth extra to people who want them! :aheartbea That's true of any aspect that appeals to you... like some people appreciate sueding and would pay more for that, but in general you don't see people charging extra for a secondhand doll that is sueded. From what I've seen, having a default faceup or not doesn't seem to affect the price of Delfs on the secondhand market. When a Delf with Luts faceup sells, it seems like there's a 50/50 chance whether the new owner wipes the faceup or not. I think as the default faceups get even more rare and nostalgia increases, you might see those ones sell for way more and the people who plan to repaint would probably not buy those and wait around for a blank/repainted one.

      • x 2
    22. I think default faceups are sure a nostalgic charm and it totally should be up to you! Do you feel you'd regret seeing her the same for so long or do you really want a fresh look for her?

I can never personally buy dolls with default faceups as I feel less attached to them. All my characters have some unique looks and I know people out there have the want and love for a default faceup delf.

I had a el previously but he had a custom luts faceup which didn't suit the character so I sold him on.
I think at the moment the only default faceup in my crew is my Riff.

    23. One more vote to keep the original faceup. It's my dream to find any Soony these days, but finding one with the default faveup would be a miracle!

However, she is 100% your doll and yours to paint or send away to the spa! It is always a difficult decision.

      • x 1
    24. When I received my Lishe elf, she already had her faceup redone, so I was not at all hesitant to redo it again. I buy dolls as characters, so it's rare that a factory faceup fits what I have in my mind.

    25. I am one of those people that wipes default faceups.

My Soony I purchased from Luts with her default back in 2006 and within a year sent her out to be redone. My second doll also came to me from luts with default, my third, fourth... none lasted. I learned pretty early that defaults just aren't for me. Even now, I have gained my second hand El, Shine, and Dambi with default faceups but none have stayed default (or will since Dambi still has his. I just can't afford to send him out yet). I wasn't interested in paying more for the default because I knew I wasn't going to keep it but for someone else that default might give the doll more value.

Even when a default is absolutely beautifully done they just don't make me happy, and what makes the owner happy is really all that matters.

Just because I don't like defaults, or just because someone else does, shouldn't dictate what an owner is going to do with their doll.

    26. Hmmm...that's an idea. Wonder if anyone at Fairyland/from CP would do a factory faceup on any of my old dolls? They are the original ones that do them, right? :?

I have to admit, I won't pay more for a doll just because it has a factory faceup, but then again, I'd be happy to find a Delf with one!

I am loving these dolls with the factory faceups! :love How classic they all are!:3nodding:

      Ryu

    27. In my experience worrying about whether to keep a faceup I'm not fully happy with, regardless of the fact that it's well done, often gets in the way of me having fun with the doll and it becomes more of a point of stress than enjoyment. You can always take lots of detail shots before the wipe, making it easier to recreate what she had if you find you start to miss that version later. (Which isn't a tragedy, bc if her default is okay but you feel like it could be more, maybe a faceup artist recreating the old CP look with their own methods/spin would be just what she needs to feel like her!)
Rule of joy/fun trumps everything else for me, this is a hobby rather than an investment or status indicator so I feel like you should follow your heart's desire, what you have in mind for her!

My Nanu girl got home safely, she actually arrived two full days early so she beat me home by a LOT instead of a little, lol, I'm out of town rn. I can't wait to dress her up and put her next to her brother!!! Which reminds me I need to buy her a wig, lol, I want her to have a sandy blonde like her brother. <3

    28. I just briefly owned a Delf boy in the past, ages ago. And I haven't had any boy dolls of that size since, so I'm wondering how difficult is it to find clothes, shoes that fit?

My favourite place to order from is Alice's Collections, but their smalles SD boy size is regular 1/3 size.

    29. @manabusama I only have the Type 2 Delf body (single-jointed), but I've never found them difficult to clothe. My boy wears a mix of SD/SD13 stuff, so as long as it isn't made for a slim/willowy sculpt like Resinsoul or Dream Valley you should be able to get a lot of mileage out of standard sizes! Same with shoes, with measurements useful for confirming if there's a particular pair you're thinking about!

    30. Ok, thanks! There isn't anything in particular other than I worry that pants may be too long in the legs. But there are luckily some clothes that Alice's Collections offer custom made orders for :)

    31. Does anyone know how often leeke restocks its wigs? I'm interested in a style bur the pink is sold out

    32. OOH, a new wig for Feather, perhaps? :wiggle

      Ryu

    33. Yes exactly! :whee:

    34. NOICE! I can't wait to see her in it!

I've been looking at Cotindoll's wigs for an "OffThisTopic" doll. They're expensive, but they have many styles I really like. Now to get the money for one....:chomp:

      Ryu

    35. @SacredMonsoon Idk about their restock schedule, but you might get lucky with dealers who have in-stock wigs like DDE (if you haven't already looked, of course). Good luck!

    36. Heads up I've created a petition to Cerberus Project Fairyland to re-release these old Delf. It's worth a shot!
      Sign the Petition

    37. OOOH! I'd love to be able to make my Soony boy! I'm signing!

    38. I've signed... I'll always regret not buying Soony when I had the chance, then not getting her when a friend was selling hers...

    39. I signed. I don't anticipate my request of Kum-Ran and Edgar will ever happen but it would be really neat if it did!

    40. I signed too. I really want a Moon and SP Moon.

    41. I feel that the companies have been separate entities long enough, the split happened more than a decade ago so I see no reason why they couldn't mutually decide their contractual agreement can be changed/updated. I signed too, you never know right?

    42. No dice on the petition :( Fairyland said they are working on lookback and don't have other plans. Sorry everyone! :(

    43. I finally gave my new Nanu girl a well-deserved spa day, and I sat her brother next to her and it made me so happy!!! I've always wanted to have a little NNR family. She is IMMACULATELY unyellowed compared to her brother, I'm kind of in awe honestly. So here I am finally honoring my promise to share a pic of them together, a month late lmfao :sweat

Vivienne on the left is unmodded, whereas her brother Lasalle had subtractive mods done on his nose and lips. I love how they're not quite identical <3

    44. Aww @Mamo they're so cute!

I have two nanuri 06 too, except one is having some intense mods to be the father of my nanuri and juri 06 :D

    45. @KittyOrochimaru thank you!! I'd love to see his finished look when the mods are done!

    46. Catching up on the past couple threads took a while, but phew, I've done it! :XD: I've been out of the hobby a while and unfortunately some of my last additions before the hiatus were my (first) Delf boys - modded vamps Shiwoo & Chiwoo. - and they've been languishing in storage since. But after seeing everyone's pics I am completely re-inspired to get those kiddos out first & start working on them. I think my Shiwoo's mostly set, other than clothes, but my poor Chiwoo never got a body so I need to start looking for something :sweat

    47. They’re precious! :D The Nanu ‘06 sculpt is so unique, and one of my fondest memories of first getting into the hobby was following someone on DeviantART who had one that she’d prepared an elaborate character and backstory for. That was the only one I’d ever seen at the time and it’s nice to see more. Like @acidquill , I’ve been out of the hobby for some time and it’s sculpts like these that make me feel especially nostalgic.

    48. @Lady Gemini thank you so much!! I agree, so special. I'm so glad I was able to get them both looking their best for some photos, but now I'll have to really think about more sibling shots to take! A good problem to have, lmao

    49. So excited to see your pretty delfs and I too was out of the hobby for about 6 years, I kept my dolls the whole time, but came back about 3 years ago now and now that I'm making some money, Feather's been getting attention! For Christmas I got an ikea bed, and I bought the leggings in this pic, as well as a dress and hopefully soon a new pink wig!! I'm having such fun! I hope you all can revive your delfs too! ♡

    51. Is Feather staying pink, or is her new wig a new color for her?

I'm looking forward to spoiling my boys now too. I def think they deserve it after being boxed up all this time. Plus, I now have the space to finally have a real doll room & would love to have setups in there for the two of them, since only my tinies got spaces before.

      • x 1
    52. Shes staying pink! Peachpink from leeke actually! I'm excited it shouldn't take too long to arrive!
Ooh i hope you can spoil your boys! What do you plan to get for them? ♡

    53. I can't wait to see her in it :)

They need a little bit of everything lol. Want to get some new clothes (& earrings) for my Shiwoo & maybe a new wig? A few wigs anyway to liven up their hair wardrobe lol. My poor Chiwoo needs everything! Ok, except a faceup. But then I'd like to get them some furniture, that they (maybe) will share with my F60s.

    54. @SacredMonsoon Omg I LOVE her!! She reminds me a tiny bit of Jem and the Holograms. The pink wig and outfit is everything <3

Oh that sounds so fun, and a lot like what I'm doing with my girls! Feather's getting a lot of goodies and Snow needs literally everything too! i hope you can spoil your boys! And i'm hoping for furniture too! :D

@aetherbanana thank you so much! I really appreciate it!, jem is so fun, I'm so glad you love my Feather <3
