Manfred looks great in his more regular clothes! He makes a cute Pikachu, though lol. I also think some smaller eyes would look good, would definitely help make him look older if that's what you want for him. c: Where is his wig from? It's a really nice color.
I, sadly, don't have a Shine to share. Have a FeePle Nanuri07, which is basically a sleeping elf Shine (though mine had his eyes opened), but no proper Delf Shine ;;

I do have another gothish boy to share, though lol. This is Dante, a Breakaway 08 vampire (eyes opened). He has a more natural look, but still with dark eye makeup. I actually want to reshell his character into a LLT Edria to fit better with the others in the group he's in. Then this version will probably get repainted and end up one of my traveling performers (most of which are Delfs XD )

And, a bonus older photo of him with my friend's Lu-Wen vampire girl, Tsukiko. She also has a very dark faceup (I painted them both the same day, actually. And just realized that was 10 years ago o: ).

Alondra is trying out a new hairdo... what do you guys think? As much as I love the tan skin, it is a pain to find colors that work well with it.

@Teddy Thank you, the commenting on the striping helps! I have given each of my Elf Soo(s) bird names in various languages and Alondra means lark and I am basing her on a Mongolian Lark.

It is bad that now I want to give them all wings of their coordinating birds? Most likely will not ever happen, but it would be a nice set up if it would happen.

 

Luts Delf El was also the cause for me to start this hobby and I was very happy to get my two boys in 2007. Unfortunately my white skin Delf Els turned over the years to a 'beautiful green' skin.
Because the face ups needed a do over I gave them in the talented hands of Meanae to dye them and give them a new face up. The outcome is wonderful and I need to share a photo of my dreaming El in his new outfit:

 

I have that problem with a "normal skin" head from another company and haven't really known what to do about it for the best about my Zombie-faced girl.

@LupusDarkmoon, the very first BJD I saw was also an El at an anime convention, I think it was back in 2005. The person was nice enough to let me hold him, and that was it, it was love! It took me a bit to find my first BJD love, but I've not looked back since.

I love The Elf's mermaid wig, and I'm so happy that I found it soon after I got him. However, I'm debating on making "The Elf" a merman, since I've always wanted one and long, flowing elf clothes for boy BJDs seem to be difficult to find nowadays. He's still going to be an Elf, but perhaps a water elf instead of a star elf. Decisions, decisions....

Hug Tatsuro for me, he's a cutie! So is Dante! On man, I just love vampires! Tielo is so spoiled, but he doesn't demand much, lucky me. He's happy to be in his funeral clothes. But I think he secretly loves the Build a Bear bat wings I recently got him.

I'm debating on what color I want Manfred's eyes to be, but I'll probably end up sticking with blue. These eyes are the ones his seller sent him with, and I'm so used to seeing him with blue eyes that unless his personality changes drastically after he gets his faceup, he's more than likely going to be a blue-eyed Goth. He's supposed to be 27 years old, so I'm debating on going two sizes smaller. Manfred also came with his wig, but what you don't see is that the back of it is pretty messed up. I think that his former caregiver might have tried to cut it or something. I managed to find another wine red wig for him that I like, if its still available, I'm going to get it for him.

Tsukiko is also gorgeous, but there's just something about vampire boys that I love.

@Tonboko, Alondra looks amazing in that wig! I'm so used to seeing tan dolls with blond hair, its not only refreshing but wonderful to see that you also didn't go that route! Good on you! Adrastos, my Tan Shiwoo has purple dreadlocks, I'll try to post a pic of him when the sun comes up.

@Saiyaku, your handsome Dreaming El (what's his name, btw?) looks wonderful in that outfit! I spend all my free time this weekend looking for elf/fantasy clothes for "The Elf", where did you find that one at?

I have two beauty Green boys, Tielo my Dreaming Shiwoo Vampire and of course, "The Elf"'s floating head. I'm still hoping to find a BG boy body for him.

Love all the stories behind everyone's dolls. I lack the ability to give my dolls back stories and individual personalities. It's been my goal for some time now, but I am still failing at it. I won't give up though. It's a wall in my brain that I am determined to break through!!! LOL

 

Start with little details about them and see if anything else gloms onto them over time...?

Mine don't necessarily have big/detailed backstories. Their personality comes as "I get to know" the doll. Their backstory, such as it is, comes from how they fit with my other/exisiting dolls and interaction with other people's dolls.

Alphie, my Chiwoo, being my first BJD, had no others to fit in with and interact with so took a while for me to get to know and for his character to start to form... even now (14 years on, having added 16 siblings/cousins to his family) he's one of the least-filled-out characters in his extended Victorian family. I know that he's ten years old, he's a sweet boy, he's not as boisterous as his brothers/cousins, he's the tallest in the family, and Jean-Claude (three years his senior) resents that... but that's all I've got.

From that, I know that Jean-Claude, the eldest boy in the family, resents being shorter than Alphie, believes himself to be the natural leader in all the family games and exploits (even though he isn't), and takes pains to look out for the younger kids in the family... So also not a lot.

Lol, she sure tried to be a blonde.. she about stole my IFs wig! It was like she was saying "you know this is to light for her brows anyways, so let me have it!"
I also thought about purple or pink or some other fun color, but with her namesake I thought this would be a nice balance off all things.

@Teddy you're right, I've been playing dungeons and dragons with my husband at a game store we're we're doing a hardcover. This means about at least a year's commitment. My goal is to learn to act, which I haven't been able to do yet ,and to create a character - a theory of mine character that isn't just a different version of my own head. What I mean is to have a character that has different motivations for my own and that for me is very difficult but essential to creating a whole new person that you see as an individual. I understand this intellectually but for some reason I can't achieve it. But I know I will improve my entire being by learning it.

 

D&D is great! My Ani is actually Alordel, one of my characters I played. Several of my dolls are actually retired characters. It is fun to shell the more memorable ones.

 

I should do that, shell some of my old D&D characters! I have pics of them in my mind, it wouldn't be difficult to do. Expensive, but not difficult!

I think it might be best if I stick with the storylines I have currently. At least until we move into a much larger house!

Oh, I forgot to take a pic of Adrastos while the sun was out! Oh well, here's a pic of him at night. He's a version of Neil deGrasse Tyson, with long dreadlocks and a goatee instead of a short afro and a mustache. Of course, since he's in the Doctor Who universe, he has more roles than "just an astrophysicist."

I couldn't pinpoint what I thought was wrong with his faceup until just now, he needs eyelashes! I'm going to look into getting him some added to his faceup.

@Tonboko and @Ryuichi Sakuma 13 rather than shelling a character, I'm trying to use one of my dolls as a catalyst to create a character. We've played 4 sessions and unfortunately the rules and mechanics of the game have a steep learning curve which leaves me little brain power to think 'what would my character think? . LOL. but I am going to get there, plus I'm making her platem LOL

 

{laugh!} I gave up on learning all the rules and mechanics years ago - I know the basics, and the players and DM remind each other if any of us get stuck, plus there's always the books to look stuff up in.

Half of our gaming group sits aorund chatting about dolls (and Doctor Who, and filk, and conventions, and reenactment, and anything else that crops up) and sewing/knitting clothes for our dolls while we play. I've taken my Chiwoo along to more than one session.

I'm hoping that we can get a D&D group started near me soon. And if we do, I think I'll take a doll with me and work on sewing as well! After all, during down-time, it'll give my hands something productive to do.

Of course, the people I hang with don't know I'm into BJDs...yet.

In regards to stories for dolls...mine usually start as original characters I already had (with the few fan characters I've wanted, too lol). The ones that didn't, I sort of just thought of what sort of things I might like to have a collection of. I've ended up with a couple of bands, a troupe of traveling fae performers, and sky pirates (and some galaxy themed ones in their own little group cause I can lol). So, the ones that don't have a preset character usually get lumped into one of those groups. XD

I hope you have fun with D&D! I've always thought it'd be fun to play, and know a lot of people who do, but none of us are really close enough to get together. orz Best of luck with figuring out your character, though! I hope she doesn't give you too much more trouble. o:

It seems Els are a lot of people's gateway into the rabbit hole that is BJDs lol. I never saw a BJD in person until I got my first. The size was quite a surprise once he got his body XD

I've noticed there's not much fantasy style wear for boys out there nowadays (and most of the fantasy stuff is medieval style dresses for larger girls...). A water elf could be a lot a fun, though! And that wig would definitely be fitting for a water theme. You could get some of that mermaid scale fabric to make him a tail. :'D

I'll give him lots of hugs! Vampires are great. I have a lot of vampire characters (probably too many lmao). And who wouldn't love Build a Bear bat wings?? That sounds super cute.

Blue does look very nice with the wine red of Manfred's wig. Maybe a more vibrant, pale blue like you sometimes see vkei artists with? Kamijo wears such contacts a lot, and at one point almost every member of Savage had the really pale blue eyes going on (with one slightly darker lol). What size eyes does he have in now? May need to try some different sizes in him to see what look you like best. o: It's a shame the back of his wig is messed up, though. Hopefully the other one you found will still be there when you can get it!

Here's another dark faceup boy for you. Mudai, Delf Moon, is a member of a vkei band (that I have yet to name). All of the members will be named after Buck-Tick songs...because I'm a dork lmao. I want to repaint him, though. Plan to get rid of the dots by his eyes (I really just wanted to play with my acrylic inks lol). The rest will probably be similar, and he'll definitely keep his shark bite piercings.

Kirah and Keheley want to thank everyone for the compliments. They live in difference "worlds" so it's unusual for them to get together, so to speak (even though they live on the same shelving unit). In her world, Keheley is an adult, rather than the preteen she looks to be next to Kirah!

As for back story, Kirah originated from a very, very old Star Wars fanfic I created for a very, very old fanfic website. As you can imagine, she was a love interest for Luke (so corny sounding now, huh?). When Star Wars Galaxies came live I recreated her there as a dancer, but she soon met a handsome rapscallion of a musician named Roho and it wasn't long before they fell in love and got married ingame (poor Luke - alone again!). It took about 2 1/2 years longer for their RL creators to fall in love and another 2 years to marry. I'd started looking for Kirah almost as soon as I got interested in BJD 10 years ago and went through several MSD sizes (including a human MNF Lishe) before I saw a SD Lishe Elf on the MP (10/13) who was sporting a much darker AngelToast faceup at the time, and somehow I knew that was Kirah even with the elf ears. It took longer for my husband to find a doll he approved for Roho. LOL

Oh my goodness! I love seeing all the Delfs. I feel like I would have all of the Delf sculpts if I could! Had I had a better source of income when they were still readily available I feel like I would have been close!

Does anyone have a Dambi they could share? I feel like you never see him around but he's so cute!

 

I regret selling the majority of my Delfs. I used to have the Christmas Elf Lishe, and Elf Chiwoo and Elf Yder as well as some of the event heads. All ordered on release and when people use to say "pee for victory!" or something, because we'd all be sat waiting and ignoring any urges to go to the bathroom so we could order before they all got snapped up. Never managed to get the tan ones I wanted. Ahhh the days when you had to be sat waiting during release time since it was qty limited instead of time limited. I don't think I miss those days!

That being said, I've managed to get a DES head a few days ago! The sad news is, I have no idea what body she can go on. I'd love to get her an original Luts Delf body, but I don't think it'll happen for awhile.

Me too! I regret selling some of my Delfs. Once had Chiwoo (twice...), vampire Shiwoo, Minifee vampire Shiwoo, and Angel Elf Soo (you never see her anymore!). Should have never sold them, honestly miss all of them orz
Got all of mine secondhand, so never did the waiting thing. But I remember reading about the sales and how fast they'd get snatched up (same with Bermann). It was amazing how fast they would sell out.

Congrats on the DES! Do you have any ideas on what you want to do with her? The Fantasy Doll body works pretty well for Delfs (though I'm not sure which of the new colors works best as mine are older bodies).

Okay, gonna wrap this up with my final, darker/goth faceuped Delfs (until I paint my Lishe and possibly DES). This is Noctis, Yder Elf Vampire (SDink faceup, which I adore). He's a member of a troupe of traveling performers and, instead of a vampire like his sculpt, is a faery. He is one of the owners and stays behind the scenes, cause he much prefers counting money to anything else lol.

I don't have a lot of pictures of him because I'm trash, but here's a bonus even though it's not that great. But hey, it shows his wig better. Which I love, even though it's too big for his tiny head lmao.

 

@LupusDarkmoon yes that is Kirah and Roho (Delf Breeze Sprite). Adn that's a wonderful faceup on Noctis - I had to look hard at his lips because at first I thought you misidentified him as the vampire sculpt! LOL

Oh man, I'm gone for a couple of days, and the thread blows up! Time to play catch-up.

@Teddy, Ah yes, I remember the fer craze. Its cold here, and we're expecting snow. I'm one of those people that can't have my dolls dressed in clothes that aren't weather-appropriate for the current weather, so a fer would make me not feel so cold when I put Noriko in hers.

@Saiyaku am I the only one that actually wanted a couple of beauty green dolls? I was so happy to find a BG vampire, but unfortunately, the boy body I have coming in doesn't seem to be BG, just BW. Oh well, maybe I can have him dyed to match The Elf's BG head. Either way, that dye job is fantastic! What a difference!

@LupusDarkmoon, you're right. Most of the fantasy clothes I've found were either for female dolls, historically accurate, or for fashion dolls. Nothing wrong with any of that, but its just not what I need. That's why I'm leaning more towards making The Elf a water elf/merman instead. That way, I make him a sparkly, color-changing mermaid scale tail, and he'll be good to go. Maybe a few tails. I'll have to see. I've always wanted a merman, maybe this is the best way to get one!

I'm really debating on finding Manfred a similar color blue set of eyes in a smaller size to make him look older. But after five plus years since he came home, I'm so used to seeing him with the wine-colored wig and those particular blue eyes that I'm a bit worried that any other eyes would change his personality too much. I do love his current eyes though. Again, we'll see.

I'm not going to lie, I really love Mudai's faceup! The dark around his eyes are more along the lines of what I was thinking for Manfred, but I think I might just give him to the faceup artist and say, "what would you do to make him look Goth?" and let them get creative with him. The multicolored dots are pretty freakin' cool too! What a beautiful boy!

And no worries, if I had the money and the space, I'd make dolls that represented the members of the J-music group Perfume! I'm a HUGE fan of them! I've already seen them live twice, and I'm kind of waiting for them to come to NYC again.

@Rinoa, wow, you had some rare Delf I've only heard of! Christmas Elf Lishe? I would love to see pics of her! I have to admit that I think that time-limited is physically safer than quantity limited. I never had the money for those releases, thank goodness for the secondhand market and being able to get some of my grail Delf dolls that way!

Congrats on the new incoming DES! I can't wait to see what you do with them! I've seen whole Delf bodies for sale on "various social media platforms," but you might have to buy the entire doll and sell the other head.

Moon is a handsome sculpt. I had a friend that had one, and I wanted him so bad, but when she decided to sell him, I was broke. I swear, I need to win the lottery big-time so I can get all the Delf I've always wanted!

I'd like to see a Dambi too, they are a cute sculpt. If Fairyland brought back some of the older sculpts, I'd become even more broke getting them, or my credit card would end up catching fire from overuse!

@LupusDarkmoon, have you ever thought of trying to get any of your old Delf sculpts back? I'm keeping my eyes open for a Soony to come up for sale, among others. I probably should check facebook more as well.

Manfred's wig shipped a couple of days ago, but its coming from Singapore. The seller said that it would take about two weeks for it to arrive to me here in the US. I'm eagerly waiting to see if its long enough for me to be able to occasionally put it in a ponytail.

Thank you! I need to get full body pics of him in it. It's the one modeled by the Bloody Valentine Breakaway. Though, I don't have the fancy pin and just used an old earring lol (it also has pants that match the coat, instead of the black the Breakaway had on...also don't have the black coat, which I'm kind of sad about now XD).

I think multiple tails for The Elf would be a lot of fun. He could have a different one for each season! Maybe even holidays, if you wanted to get really into it lol. (a sparkly red tail with fur trim would be fun for Christmas, though not really water appropriate I guess XD)

I totally understand that, changing things that have been the same for so long is really hard. Kusuriuri really needs some smaller eyes, but I like the ones he has a lot. They're just kind of hard to see because his eye opening is so small!
Whatever you do with Manfred, I bet he'll look great though!

Ahhh thank you! Mudai's is a little nontraditional, being mostly monochrome, but it was fun to do. (I'm glad you like the dots, too!) As long as you trust your artist, giving them free reign could be fun and end up with a really cool outcome!

Oh, that's cool! I hope you get to see them again! And having dolls of them sounds like fun, maybe you can one day! (I'm, slowly, putting together dolls of the members of Buck-Tick. It's hard to find the right sculpts since I'm going more realistic. Their chibi versions will all be LittleFee, though lol)

I'd love to get the Delfs I used to have again. ;; I can never find AES anymore. Whenever I find Chiwoo, it's normally a sleeping one or has a really nice faceup I'd feel bad about wiping (mine needs to have freckles!), and I hardly ever see vampire Shiwoo either. And when I do find them, I'm beyond broke lmao.
I hope you can get a Soony one day! I almost got a modded sleeping head once for pretty cheap, but the seller backed out. One of my most disappointing moments in the hobby orz

@LupusDarkmoon Thank you! ♡ I bought her hat from etsy a looooong time ago, I think it was from Guppykisses, but their store isn't active anymore. I commissioned the custom face too! But I think there are other places to get similar hats nowadays.

Don't blame you for that! It matches her so well. c: You should give it a shot! I learned to crochet by watching youtube videos. Got some inexpensive hooks and yarn and watched a bunch of youtube lol. It's especially helpful when you can actually work along with the video (reading patterns can get confusing, but they start making more sense when you learn all the lingo and abbreviations).

To keep things sort of on topic, here's Dante in a slouchy hat and scarf I made a long while ago. The yarn is out of scale, but I didn't care and really just wanted to make things lmao it's totally not his style though lol

Dante is beautiful, I love his two toned eyes and wig color! And the knitwear is superb!
