Contest Couture Contest: The Un/Lucky Cat - Winners Announced!

Jul 31, 2016

    1. Thanks! Also I think my second question was lost in the shuffle, In the close-up detail shots, does the doll have to be wearing the items at the time?

    2. I've figured out how to make private URL's with flickr to share the photos on the contest form without posting them publicly, but the form won't accept the URL's. I suspect it is because they don't end in .jpg.

I'm stumped, I don't want to make the photos public but I don't know how else to submit them with the form.

Edit: Well I couldn't leave well enough alone. I never did figure out how to get flickr to work, but I did find a workaround with tumblr that involves saving them as a draft to keep them out of the public eye, then linking them directly that way, lol.

    3. oh that's so useful, thank you! If the mods say my work around didn't work it's a relief to know there's another way.

    4. Note! We need to upload entries on DoA. This is very different from previous years.
If you read in the triathlon thread( first part) I was also very confused by this aspect!

    5. Oh interesting, I don't think the form for this contest is the same as the triathlon's or the photography contest though. I clicked on their entry links just out of curiosity and it loaded a page that was totally different then the form I used last night for this contest (which only loads if you haven't already entered, as it turns out).

It just had links to URL's.

    6. I have a question please. If we use a ruffle to embellish something but the ruffle doesn't add length does that count in our yardage? For example - a skirt is 5" long waistband to hem. There's no ruffle on the bottom but you want to add four rows of small ruffles sewn on top of the skirt to embellish it. Do the ruffles have to come out of our yardage?

      Thanks!

    7. Looking forward to seeing all the entries and voting! I had to opt out of participating in this one as concentrating on another competition was just too much for my weak eyes... And working full time with computer doesn't make it easier either. I had a couple of good ideas for the cat's costumes though, and might make them sometime later. Best of luck to everybody!

    8. Ah sorry! I did miss this one. If you would like to show details that are easier to photograph off the doll, then that is fine.

If your ruffle does not add any length to your fabric, then it would just be an embellishment, and not count against your yardage.

    9. Thanks much! That is going to help a bunch.

    10. Thank you, Cowpewter!

    11. Just got my entry submitted, hopefully it all goes through alright. *crosses fingers*
Good luck everyone! I can't wait to see all the entries!

    12. REMINDER
Do not post images or descriptions of your contest entries anywhere on-line until the contest is complete and the winners announced. If you do, you will disqualify yourself from the contest.

Please be aware and keep yourself in the competition!

    13. How do we submit photos then? When I clicked on the submission form, it wanted urls for the images, so that means they have to be online, doesn't it?

    14. I ended up making a tumblr draft so that tumblr hosts the images but they aren't available to be viewed by anyone but me. The mods haven't really confirmed if that's an ok way to do it, but if you search my blog you definitely can't find the pictures, so i hope it's okay!

    15. Yep, a tumblr draft or private post works. You can also upload to Flickr or Imgur as a private photo. Most photo hosts have some sort of "only I can view this" option.

    16. please help! I'm trying to upload my entry but it's saying that there's an error on all of my images because they don't match the value. But I've resized them all to be 799 pixels on the longest size using the free picresize software and then uploaded them to my private Flickr. Then I tried to upload the private, resized Flickr images to DoA. But my entry won't go through. When I doublecheck my images in picresize they're all under 800 pixels. What do I do?

      Ps. They're in jpg format

    17. I can help you more specifically in your Ask the Moderators thread, but for anyone else who reads this, are you pasting the url to the actual image? It should end in ".jpg". If you paste the url to the Flickr page, it won't work.

    18. Thank you! I found reference to imgur so I set up an account and will test it there. I'll also check the ATM thread.

I tried Igmur but it didn't work. Then I tried Tide N Tyme's suggestion using BBCode (post #63in this thread) and my entry was accepted. I hope I pasted the images in the correct places!

For people who have to use an iPad: I don't have a computer so I had to use an iPad. Selecting the entire link in the BBCode window was very difficult but if you manage to select it all the link seems to work.
Keep trying! You have to slide your finger way past the end of the link window in a super straight line in order to be able to copy it.

    19. IMPORTANT NOTE

We've updated the submission format to match the other contests this year. The link in the first post now goes to the new submission form. The new form allows you to upload your images to DoA instead of using a separate image host. Akara wrote a tutorial for this for the Triathlon.

If you're already submitted your entry with the old form, you do not need to do anything. Your existing entry is fine. :3nodding:

As always, if you have any questions, you can come to Ask the Moderators, and we'll help you out!

    20. Great! If I can manage to finish in time then I know I can make the photos work :) Thank you!

    21. Debating if I should try and finish...

    22. You totally should if you've got enough time!

    23. Thank you! Just been super unmotivated of late...

    24. I know the feeling, I had to force myself to finish mine, and even though there are things I don't like about it, I'm still glad I did.

    25. It says thread title, what should we put there?

I'm sorry if it's been asked and I missed it.

    26. You can put whatever you like, the title doesn't matter.

    27. Thank you

    28. Good luck everyone! I didn't have time to submit this year, but I am looking forward to seeing all the creations. :kitty2

    29. Contest submission time has ended~ Good Luck everyone.

    30. Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see all the entries.

    31. I can't wait to see all of the cats either! I absolutely LOVED this contest! Whoever thought it up is brilliant and fun!
      Good luck to all.

    32. It says in the first post that voting opens on August 23, and it's already past 7pm EST on the 23rd...am I missing the voting thread?:sweat

    33. I'd just gotten on to check it but I guess things are a little behind schedule. Hopefully it will show up soon.

    34. I hope so! I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas. :)

    35. I've also been refreshing the page throughout the day to see when the voting opens. The excitement is really getting to me.

    36. Mine doesnt look like its even been accepted yet.

    37. Oh, are we supposed to get some sort of confirmation after we submit? This is my first time joining so I didn't know what to expect, but if there's confirmation, then I haven't gotten any yet either.

    38. Im not sure; but the triathlon entries disappeared once they were accepted

    39. Well hopefully we'll hear/see something soon. I'm a bit afraid to see the competition blow mine out of the water but I'm still excited to see all of the entries.

    40. I asked the mods on Sunday if mine was submitted correctly, since I submitted mine before they change how to submit, and I was worried that I might need to redo it, but I didn't get a reply, so....I don't know what's going on...I hope everything is ok!

    41. Maybe they got a lot of entries this year and so it's taking longer to review them. In the past entry confirmations were not given out so my guess is that if you submitted before the deadline you should be okay. Also, I had problems with my images and the entry form kept getting kicked back until I finally had it correct. Then I received a message saying something like, "congratulations, your entry has been entry successfully completed." Did you receive a message like that after you entered?

    42. Honestly, I'm not sure if I did or not! I entered every contest this year, and I don't remember what each said after submitting, but I know it didn't kick it back to me and I wasn't notified of any issues, so I assume that's good.

    43. Yes, I would assume it's good as well.

    44. Just wish we'd hear something. My nerves always get the better of me at times like these. :XD:

    45. I'm here to join in on the nerves brigade. It's been doing my head in too! xD

    46. There's so many amazing outfits. It's so hard to pick from. I'll have to vote tomorrow when I have my computer on.

    47. The entries are all great, sadly I don't think mine has a chance of even coming near first, but it was fun anyway and I'm loving a lot of the costumes this year! Congrats to everyone who made it!

    48. Gahhh. I want to ramble about something I think I should have not done, but I'll just vaguely mourn until the voting is over, lest I out myself.

(Slight shameless question, any rules about voting for yourself? Hahaha)

      • x 1
    49. Dun worry @AlekInexelsis (It's Lilly, BTW) I'm regretting NOT doing something! And no, to my knowledge there's no rules about that xD (At least, I hope not! *also shameless*)

    50. Before I vote, I want to check-- I assume the rules are the same for every contest? Only one category vote per entry, contestants can vote too, etc?

    51. I didn't see specific rules for this voting, but in the other contests you can also vote for yourself if you want to :)

    52. Ohh, wow! I honestly can't even begin to guess how this one might turn out! There are so many different and interesting concepts here, I feel like the competition is going to be very close. :love

      • x 1
    53. Wow, what a lot of great and diverse concepts! It's going to make it hard to vote. Good work, everyone! :)

    54. Did anybody had any issues with voting? :kitty1 I've submitted my votes and this is what I got:
      Den of Angels - Error
You have exceeded the number of responses allowed per user for this form.

It's my first time voting for the cats, shall I just try once again?

    55. I got the same error.

    56. I got it too, but my computer stutters sometimes so I thought maybe it just registered my pressing submit more than once.

    57. I got it too, but before that there was a message thanking for my votes on top of the page. The thank you message was there for only a moment.

    58. I just got that error as well :S Hopefully the vote went through. I love everyones designs tho! I dunno if I have a chance with mine XD But it was fun none the less :D Good luck everyone!

    59. I got the error too on my phone, but I asked the mods about it, and my votes did go through as submitted, so I think everything is probably fine for everyone else too. :)
