So I did not expect at first to be making doll opening thread for the Unicorn Beetle girl from Coral Reef company, but as soon as I saw the box, I felt she was special and I had to share her arrival. So the box that welcomed me was this. So I know there are some companies that put character pic on the box (i.e. volks) but personally, this was the first time I got the personalised one, and so pretty! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246561996_f431b28516_c.jpg Everything inside was very well packed - all smart parts separately wrapped, probably the most fragile thing - the transparent wings - had their own compartment and were attached to the foam pad to not move around while extra foam blocks protected it from being squashed. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246984300_b20567d870_z.jpg With COA I got some postcards with the artwork and the two option looks by the company (I was considering a fullset at first but decided that I would want the looks to change to something else eventually anyway) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246561936_e826af7f2f_z.jpg so continuing unpacking... first the wings! they are one of the reasons I got her - so beautifully detailed! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246561921_844ba81cf2_c.jpg and the extras - the hands I bought in case I wasn't liking the fantasy ones, head, "helmet" part, decorative heels and the head: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246984285_21c767322d_c.jpg Heels with the "foot" (for now just temporarily attached with blue tac - I guess I will glue them once I eventually paint the leg parts): https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246561901_3541539d15_c.jpg And the doll put together (wings for now attached with blue tac at shoulder, but you are supposed to secure with string - it is provided - as they are heavy overall. ). she is fantastic even while blank. Her resin is the "close to mia white" and it is a neutral white with a slight tint of "normal". Other than fantasy legs and hands her body is pretty much the 1/3 thinner body, with the smaller bust. The face is very cute, with pouty slightly open lips and elf ears! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246984235_8669e5cd88_b.jpg View from the back. I'm actually glad the winds do not attach to the back - easier to sew and put on clothes. The outer shell is just a ball joint, so can easily move around. the wings themselves have a a swivel joint to move to sides and a bit of a gear-shaped joint, so the you can rotate one step each time - I like this solution as they are heavy, so it is thanks to this, that they can hold the up position like this one: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246811199_38e09c7d70_b.jpg without the wings the body is very easy to pose and holds the poses well even though it is not very tightly strung: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246797863_674534e114_c.jpg I tried to swap the hands to see how it looks like and it was fairly easy. So you can get a semi-human look with her too if you make the legs look like just strange boots: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246561801_4451b24da5_c.jpg colour-wise, the mia white is more tinted than the original coral reef white, with is very paper-white. You can see the difference best here, as the neck donut (puffer fish!) is cast in white. It's a pretty colour, definitely lighter than the typical "normal". With time, I can see it mellowing to more cream, but won't go as yellow as the white usually does. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54246984150_ab84c290dc_c.jpg So this is it for the arrival! I have no idea yet on the looks I will go for (I usually wait for the doll to arrive unless I have some idea before ordering) but I defo want to go for a decorative paint/clothes and try to burnish the beetle parts with some metallic chameleon flakes. Maybe like jewel beetle? I will have to think about this...
This doll is gorgeous and so intricately designed, and the box opening experience is definitely special. I also appreciate your description of the resin colours -- I'm trying to hybrid some Coralreef option parts to a different doll, so your desc is informative. Thanks for sharing a detailed box opening, hope to see progress on how you decide to paint and style this girl!
Wow!!! What a work of art. Even as a blank doll, she is so captivating to look at. Congrats on her arrival, and thank you for sharing her!
Congrats! I wanted to get her as well, but it was a bit of an expense! I look forward to seeing how you style her!
Thank you for sharing! She’s beautiful and the detailing on her sculpt is honestly breathtaking. Congrats on your new lovely~
Ugh, she's gorgeous. I can't wait for mine - I got her on a human body, so no fancy legs and beetle arms for me! Are you planning to do the faceup and all the body blushing/painting yourself? That's gonna be so cool!
Thank you everyone! I have some fantasy dolls but definitely the sculpting of the fantasy parts in this one in really something else! @aihre I'm currently waiting also for a dollzone Moon in Peach skin, which I understand is also a tinted white - it will be interesting to see how those two resin colours look next to each other... good luck with your hybrid! @tsukibun the human body is beautifully sculpted and the face is very cute and unique with a little upturned nose, so I'm certain you will be happy with your order! Yes, I'm waiting for some chrome chameleon flakes currently to check out different colours and do some testing out in adding them onto resin... I will try to have a fantasy design that will keep the fairy-insect vibe.
Holy Molly congrats, she looks so delicate and beautiful! Your jewel beetle idea sounds absolutely perfect and I can't wait to see your custo!
She's so, so stunning! I wish you many happy hours styling her, and cannot wait to see the results!!!!
This just confirms for me where my collection is moving - into the semi-human realm. She is divine! Thank you for sharing!
I am SO EXCITED!! I ordered her as a fullset. Seeing how absolutely stunning yours is, I am thrilled to see how mine will turn out! Thank you for the post!
Gorgeous! Sadly I missed the preorder, but I'm so happy you were able to get a hold of her. Cannot wait to see how you style her.
