Tutorial Convertible/Infinity Dress Tutorial (Easy for Beginners!)

Jun 10, 2011

    1. :) You didn't do anything wrong, the waist band is supposed to be on the inside, behind the straps.

    2. I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this dress Help me?

    3. What are you stuck with?

    4. This is a great tutorial!! Thank you so much for posting, I'm going to give it a shot tonight ^_^

    5. i really really like this idea as it looks good on pretty much every doll^^ its also a great romantic, summer dress. Will definetly try this for my girl!
Also, as an addition to this idea, i personally (for myself that is) own a tunic/dress thingy called ''the thousand ways dress'' and its similiar to this but with sleeves! i dont know how one would make it for a bjd, also, sleeves are quite difficult, but íf you were to sew it..you would at least have 10 different styles from 1 dress ;) ill see if i can get a link......or a pic :P[IMG]
Sorry for the big pic, couldnt find a site featuring the dress in english (its a dutch only design i guess? )

    6. It looks really interesting.

    7. Nice dress!! The colors are perfect for spring and the scale of the flower print on the fabric is pretty awesome too!!

    8. Such a simple design but so elegant and versatile! Thank you for sharing!

    9. Yes, the girls always look so feminine in this dress.

    10. Does anyone have an easier way of figuring out how to do the skirt? Because There is a math formula there and I don't get it because math is jut not my subject X_x
There is an explanation of the math but that is just even more confusing to me.

    11. Basically it is a circle skirt with a band and two straps attached to it. You just have to make it long enough. Seen some people use plates to measure with. You will have to cut the hole for the waist - maybe that is where the maths comes in? I would probably fold it and cut a small hole and take it from there, if hole not big enough one can make it bigger. Maths not my subject either.

    12. Just dont make the hole too big. Thats why I would do small and measure on doll, can cut more, but if too big it could be a problem.

    13. The most recent one I made. It'll eventually get cut so that it will be shorter in front than in the back, so she has a train.

    14. It came out very nicely. Love the colour on her.

    15. Wow! I try it on weekends

    16. To put it maybe simpler, you take your waist measurement number and divide that by 6.18. That tells you in cm the inner part is supposed to be. I hope that helps a bit.

    17. Tried this for the first time today. Somehow the waist is WAY to big, had to tuck and pin it under the straps to get it to stay on. I definitely want to try again though, I like if very much.

    18. A note: If you round at all on the radius the waist will be the wrong size. You have to get as close to the funky decimals as possible. :p

    19. Why is there no tutorial like this on French forums ? It's when I decide to sell my Tinies that I found wonderful post here on DoA... Nevermind, I'll try for the next ones I'll buy :)

By the way, what kind of fabric can I use ? I have printed jersey, but only one one side... Same cor cotton fabric, only one side printed... Is it ok or not ?

    20. @Jayden Printed on one side should work fine as long as you make sure to sew the right sides together.

    21. Thanks Megpie252, I should edit my post today if I manage to make one :D

By the way, Silver Identity, can I translate you tutorial for a French forum ? I'll link back here but I have friends who don't speak a word of english, and sometimes pictures are not enough :)

    22. wow! Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

    23. I just wanted to share my final product after using this tutorial! It's only the second thing I've sewn for my first BJD! :) Thanks for the tutorial!

And before anyone asks: yes, that's a noose on a two headed bear. It's a crochet pattern on Ravelry.

    24. It looks really cute on her piper.

    25. wow this is beautiful!

    26. How beautiful! When I find some nice material, i'll definitely try this! Thank you :D

    27. great Tutorial, i will try it out soon :)

    28. I think I will have to make one of these for my girl this week so she has something to wear when she arrives!

    29. Had to give it a try, very easy to make. Decided to make one for my Alberta...tee hee...I plan on making it in better fabrics but this was just a mock up. Link below picture goes to my blog where I twisted the dress into different styles. :)

      On a normal 2 legged doll it is a high/low hemline :)

    30. I have to try this!~ this looks pretty easy for a beginner like mua ><

    31. Wow...pretty cool!! I still want to try this, but the few times I looked for fabric, just couldn't find anything I liked. I'll just have to give the fabric thing more effort!!

    32. Wow, so pretty! :) I might have to make one if I get a chance.

    33. I went ahead and made one of these tonight! The dress part was very fast to sew, but all the details took me several hours, even on the sewing machine... 98% machine sewn, the only thing I did by hand was attach the little bows.
I also discovered that fork bows are just the right size for embellishments on MSD clothes!
The doll modeling it is not mine, she belongs to ankhensepnamun. I don't have a doll of my own yet (except for the two Pullips lurking just out of sight to the right...), but this dress is meant for the girl I'm saving for, a Bobobie Ya. This girl is a 5SD, so the dress is a little tight/small on her, but it's jersey fabric so it can still stretch over her big butt. ^_^

    34. Well done ladies.

    35. I decided to give this dress a shot today. This is an awesome tutorial! :) I messed up the dress a bit and it's slightly too large in the waist, but I don't think it's that easy to tell.

    36. @radioactive: great use of machine embroidery stitching. I keep forgetting that my sewing machine has some nice decorative stitches like that I'll have to give that a try sometime.

and another dress I did for my SD girl, this time I didn't curve the hem and I made the small waistband on the inside like the original tutorial showed. It was actually meant for my MSD girl but my sewing machine decided it wanted to stretch my fabric as I was sewing so it was bigger than it should have been. But no worries Keiyoko said hey I have a small bust stretch that over my head I'm sure it will fit..lol (wouldn't go up over her hips).

    48. amazing job
      necessarily make a dress

    49. I have tried this and struggled a good bit. I measured the waist as shown, and done the math as shown (I checked several times to make sure it was right) but I still end up with a waist hole that's way too large.

Edit: I think I figured it out! Now I need to try it again.

    50. Wow! I so have to try this when I get my girl. I think I'll modify the back of the skirt and add a small zipper or snap to it so it can fit over the hips easily. Gosh, I just love looking at all the pictures everyone has posted. Thanks for making this tutorial!

    51. I tried this and ended up with a HUGE waist hole (But then I am failing maths badly right now XD) but I managed to fix it in the end ^^ Here is the result:
