Shipping Combining shipping on multiple large dolls?

Jul 9, 2024

    1. I have my eye on a couple larger 75cm dolls, I would be buying through a proxy so there's the option to combine shipping. I have no clue whether it's better to combine or keep them separate as the dolls I own so far are either smaller, or single orders.

It's usually preferable to combine shipping for smaller items, but does the same go for large heavy dolls? Or would it just be asking for a massive customs fee..?

    2. The customs fee does not depend on it (that depends on the value of a package), but of course a huge box is easier or more likely to get inspected.

The biggest issue will probably be shipping cost, because after a certain size reached the costs just explode. That's especially true when they go by volumetric weight.
It will be a very heavy, very unwieldly box, and even when buying big full-sets some companies opted to split doll and extra parts into two already. It might be that the proxy will tell you too that combining it is not really feasible.

I recently got my LLT order that consists of two 70cm guys. That package alone was gigantic already. I do not want to imagine one with several 75cm guys

    3. Proxies usually have upper limit to the parcel sizes so you'd have to first check if it's even possible to consolidate in your case. There's always the option to consolidate without their company boxes but I assume you want to keep those.

Customs fees are calculated from the price of the goods and also the shipping fee so I think your best bet is just running a few calculations with shipping combined and dolls shipped separately - I've been using Simplyduty for that. Most proxies have shipping calculators you can use to estimate the shipping fee for that.

All in all it's probably going to be expensive either way :sweat

    4. Thanks guys it's really helpful to hear from people with experience with this! I hadn't considered that it could be too big to combine anyway :aeyepop:
I think I'll put a note to the proxy asking them not to prepare for shipping straight away, so I can play around with the actual size/weight before choosing the shipping method.

    5. I think it would also depend on when your dolls actually arrive to your proxy for shipping too. I’m sure oversized boxes, whether weight or box size, may incur higher fees.

Some proxies also might not be able to hold for however long it takes for all your dolls to be ready. Definitely check with them for weight/box size limits.

I ordered two 75cm bodies from two different companies on the same day and with the same seller but they arrived to the warehouse literally 3 months apart.

    6. Another thing I want to point out is it depends upon the type of shipping service your proxy uses. Yanwen Express, for example, is a sort of "add-on" shipping service. Your box gets added to a commercial shipment, and then the receiving business agrees to forward the box onto you. Lots of Chinese proxies use Yanwen cuz it's cheap, and that's why sometimes you'll get a box with a return shipping address from a furniture store or something like that.
In those cases, Ara is correct - the proxy would refuse to combine your dolls, because Yanwen has a size and a weigh limit. I believe New Clover Singing uses Yanwen almost exclusively.
