I want to make realistic healed scars on a doll. I’ve seen glue used but it’s not permanent and would probably rub off with clothing. I wondered if anyone knows if there’s a material that you can do additive mods with that dry clear or an opaque white? epoxy is pretty grey it seems like
Apoxie sculpt is grey toned, but iirc Milliput is a lot whiter and it's also a 2 part epoxy putty. I know I've seen people use UV resin but I'm always afraid that the curing process will discolor the surrounding resin... I imagine it would also be a lot more difficult to "sculpt".
As someone who has been doing scars as their speciality for 10+ years now...no, they do not rub off. Quite the opposite, once it's cured and the faceup is done they are very sturdy. The blushing around them will be damaged before they even start to lift. I had customers who had to remove my work for a new set years later, and they all told me the scars stayed on until the end of the scrubbing session. I use wood glue, which is pretty much the same as white crafting glue (they are both PVA based, but wood glue tends to adher stronger and is thicker/less runny). For burn scars it's applied in several layers: This guy is scarred all over, back and front, and is owned by two seamstresses. That means he gets regularly dressed up. No scars lost so far: Like said, the sealant and blushing is the one to go through friction. The scar will very much stay on. Glue has been the go to for over a decade, I think you can trust the community experience there
I was also worried about the UV discoloring the resin I will look into miliput because I don’t think I’ve seen mods with that done. Thank you for the suggestion!
Wow that’s very convincing! I have PVA bookbinding glue I may do some test spots with that or pick up some wood glue. Thanks for taking the time to reply and show some pictures as well, that’s very helpful
