Chibi Unoa discussion part 3

Jun 15, 2012

    1. @Hyperion I've got a doll that's dark seafoam blue, but photographs light baby blue. Sometimes these fantasy resin colors do strange things!

    2. My boy arrived!:celebrate I'm hoping I'll have some motivation to do his mods and basic maintenance this weekend. @aernath you were not exaggerating when you said the extra eyes were little saucers! Holy cow I have no idea how these will fit in anyone's eyewells. I'm also thinking his restringing is going to be tricky - his legs arrived very loose, likely to make it easier to change out his faceplates. He absolutely cannot stand on his own as he is now, though. Urgh, I wish AL would just switch to a magnetic faceplate system.>.< Oh, and I am now awash in Unoa mouth pieces - I got a set with the full doll and another set with the Lilin faceplates!:XD:

    3. @Kimchi Bahaha! You got a mouthy doll! lol
Man! I would looooove it if the faceplates were magnetic! I can never get the elf ears to sit right, and they make the faceplate sit a little wonky. I should be fine if I sand those tabs a little...(is lazy)

    4. Man, I guess I might be the minority that likes the wedge-on style for faceplates. Magnets always have me worried that they'll fail and I'll lose hands/faces out in public :shudder

Chibis galore! I haven't thought of a name or anything for my blue girl, but I'm super excited to customize her! :D

    5. What size of basic BJD clothes fit a chibi unoa? and what are some basic pre made doll clothes that fit well? Would barbie clothes fit?

    6. Barbie clothes are way too small. Minifee tops are often a good fit. MNF dresses and pants can fit too, but may be too long depending on style.

    7. What clothes fit a Chibi Unoa best?

    8. Try the first link on the first post of this thread. It helped me.

    9. Do Unoas or more specifically Chibi Unoas need special eyes? I'm thinking about how you can make their eyes move in the head with a little mechanism. Do I need special eyes? If so where the heck do I get them?

    10. The Chibi Unoas at least just need eyes with a stem, because they sit in the mechanism. To my knowledge, most glass and some acrylic (very rare) have stems, but if you're not sure, you can always ask the eye maker. I hope that helps!

    11. Thank god! I found the most perfect eyes but war really worried if they would work! thanks so much <3

    12. No problem! I haven't played with mine too much yet, but I was really curious about that eye mechanism myself. I think you can also just use flat type eyes as well and totally ignore the mechanism but I haven't tried that yet so I'm not certain

    13. You can remove the eye mech from all Unoas and just install eyes as you would for any other BJD.:)

    14. I make flat backs so I'll try that without breaking the bank

    15. Yeah I never use the eye mechanism.

    16. I'm still having a hard time finding shoes to fit my girl. The only shoes I own that fit are the resin shoes that came with my Lusis, but high heels don't really suit my chibi. Does anyone have links to actual shoes that fit? Every Yosd sized shoe I see has inner measurements of less than 5cm and every MSD shoe I find is at least 6, which make them too big. None of my Yosd or MSD shoes fit her either, poor thing!

    17. @Botflybaby I'll check the 1/4 and 1/6 shoes I have and let you now if any fit. Luckily, my boy will be able to go shoeless without it looking out of place with his overall design. Also, so wonderful seeing a done-up blue chibi! All I've seen so far have been the pretty purple ones.

    18. Jujusdollymall on Ebay sells shoes by foot-length.... Shoes sold for the 14inch Kish Chrysalis dolls also fit, although sslimmer styles fit better (Doll Shoes, SLIM* 58mm COPPER Girl Dressy - fits 14" Kish | eBay), and is you do a search on Etsy for "unoa chibi shoes" it somes up with a selection form sellers who make them.

EDITED TO ADD: Oh yes - and Boneka shopes are great (57mm x 24mm wide - 057N - Boneka Tradition), although will fit better with socks than on bare feet.

    19. Thank you guys! Many of those kish shoes look very cute, I searched this thread and found a link to debs adorables on ebay with tons of kish 14" shoes that i think i will definitely buy some pairs!

    20. I have purchased shoes from Deb's Adorables before (ones sized for minifee) and found the quality very good for the price.:3nodding:

    21. I officially have a Roron (in purple) and a Lilin (in paradise skin) on the way! :D

I've always admired these girls, but I didn't think I'd ever be able to get them. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I'm kind of excited that the dolls from UnoAlchemy's January sale are coming as unstrung kits. I enjoy assembling stuff, and it will be just like putting together my Lusis back in the day.

Now, I just need to plan out their looks, while I wait.

    22. Lucky! I ordered a blue Lilin and purple Roron but no shipping notice yet D:

I desperately wanted them when I saw the photos at Halloween but held back. Seeing later that they were on sale was the push I needed to go ahead :D

    23. Congrats! Hopefully they'll ship soon! Mine haven't actually shipped yet, either; I just paid my invoice yesterday so they're reserved. I kind of bought them as a birthday present to myself, so, I'm hoping they get here by my birthday at the beginning of March.

I honestly haven't been paying attention any to bjd releases in the past couple of years (because if I don't see it, I can't want it), so, when I happened upon a picture of a tan chibi girl, and then later the Halloween girls, at the beginning of January, I was sure I had missed out. I was really excited when I discovered that they were still available and on sale.

    24. I paid for mine about a month ago and am starting to get antsy waiting! Hopefully they won't keep us waiting too much longer, but I'm sure they got a ton of orders in the new years sale ^^

    25. Oh, Spam I can do. I've been sick for a long time so dolly play has been cut down a lot.
      Chioma wants a new outfit.

    26. @Blablette @Rosslyn Your girls are both adorable!

I will be sure to spam mine once they come in and get put together and painted. No shipping notice for me yet, but I'm trying to be patient by figuring out wigs and outfits. :whee:

    27. I actually got a shipping notice late last night, so hopefully Monday or Tuesday I'll have two new little dolls to play with!

    28. @Sour_Dotz Eeee! Congrats! :D

You ordered quite a bit earlier than I did, but if you got your shipping notification, hopefully mine won't be too far behind!

    29. Been awhile since I've been in here. Congrats on all the new Chibis coming in, especially the special colored Chibis!

Got the rough mods done on my blue Chibi, Tansy! I opened his eyes and made them a touch more symmetric, as well as removed his eyebrows and the flashing in his mouth. Just need to sand everything smooth!

    30. Aw thanks! I really owe her some more camera time.

    31. I got my Halloween Chibis in today and they're so lovely! I love the resin quality :D

I did unfortunately forget to order alternate busts for them :...( I guess in my head I imagined their busts the same as Lusis/Sist, but it's Lilin with the big bust! I'll have to see if I can still get those =X

      • x 4
    32. Awesome! Did they come assembled, or were you just really speedy at putting them together?

Hopefully, they'll still have some extra bust pieces available. I ordered my purple Roron at the tail end of the sale, and they still had all the extra faceplates I wanted. I'm kind of kicking myself because didn't think to ask about the elf ears, though...

I ordered Lilin about two weeks before Roron, so, I'm guessing they'll ship together, once they ship.

    33. They did actually come assembled, which I wasn't expecting but was a nice surprise :) They're quite loose though, so need a little work for posing until a restringing. They each came with an extra hand parts, the 'splicing' or folded together hands.

    34. Wow, that's a nice surprise on both counts! I guess I'll just have to wait and see how mine come in. :thumbup

    35. Woo! I woke up to a shipping notice this morning! I'm actually not sure if it's both of them or not because the tracking info was only sent for one of the paypal invoices, so far. Either way Lilin is definitely on the move.

Edit: Yep, just Lilin. She's perfect, and will hopefully have a face up by the time her purple sister gets here.:D

    36. Roron shipped and should be here early/mid this week. :whee: I haven't settled on a wig or outfit for Lilin (She's stole my Lusis' here), but she now has a face, at least!

    37. I ordered a paradise skin Roron with some Lilin faceplates from the recent Unoa order, and the parcel arrived today! The box was pretty damaged on the bottom, both the outer shipping box and the inner Unoa box. It looked like maybe someone (customs?) stuck a knife in it, or it hit a sharp object hard, but luckily there was no damage to the doll. There was so much flash on this faceplate that the eyes were completely filled in, so I had to cut/sand them open, and sanded off the eyebrows at the same time. Now to find/make some proper clothes that fit.

    38. Very cute! I love the green eyes, they go very well with the skin color :)

I never added finished photos of my two, it took a lot of work! I went with their decadent faceplates which a lot of people seem to mistake for Lusis and Sist. I made them some dreadlocks with ombre hair, kimonos (I wish I was a better seamstress sigh), and gave them very glittery face ups.

    39. Selidor and Sour_Dotz: Congrats on your new girls! They look amazing! My new fairy skin with extra lilin face plate just came, too but I can't decide who to send her to for a face up. Not brave enough to try and do it myself :(

    40. @Sour_Dotz They look great! The colourful faceups look lovely with the wigs.

@bajib Congrats on your arrival, too! I’m doing the same thing with mine. I can manage the wig and clothes on my own, but faceups are beyond me.

    41. i absolutely love how you did this, she is amazing and so even too, do tell, i am in love with her. i want a paradise but not tan enough for me i think :(

    42. Oh thank you very much! Here's my tips for dyeing resin things to get them smooth. Sanding isn't always necessary, and that's up to you. and then when you finish, it really helps to have high pigment PanPastel colors to blush them with in order to hide any awkward spots.

    43. I picked up a little metal chair at Michael's yesterday that's just about right for my Chibis, so I thought I'd share! It was on sale in the spring items for about $9.

    44. Super cute!! Love her style! :D

    45. I need to get pictures, but at Target, there's a new line of dolls called the Glitter Girls. They have light-up shoes that fit our Chibis!

    46. Hello! I recently put together a MiniFee/ Chibi Unoa hybrid, and I'm enjoying him very much. :D He has beautiful default hands, but none of the Alchemic Labo Chibi Unoa option hand parts catch my fancy, so I'm now looking elsewhere...

Has anyone tried any of the Doll Legend 1/6 option hands on their Chibi Unoa? I read that the hand ball joints are about 1.2cm wide, and the hands are around 3.8cm long, which seem to match my Chibi's default hand measurements, so I'm thinking they might work.

EDIT: Answering my own question here XD Adding the link here in case anyone else was curious!

    47. That is so cool! I'm glad you managed to get a picture to share.

    48. Can someone possibly share the stringing institutions? I lot mine round the time I got my chibi so I've been stringing her weird for a year :/

    49. I can send a photo of them to you if you still need them, please PM me your e-mail address ^^

    50. Thank you for the offer, that is very kind of you! Luckily though I found the box my stringing instructions were in :thumbup and thanks again :whee:

    51. It's been about a million years since I've been in this thread. I sold my Chibi off but now I want one again (because that's how I roll). Can anyone point me to or take a pic of their Chibi with a YO sized doll, standing, so I can see the height diff. My old one was with Minis all the time, I can't remember how drastic the height difference is with a YO.

I've been looking around - including my old photos - but I can't seem find anything.

EDIT: I found one picture...I think they're too tall for what I need. I can't win with Chibis!

    52. I know this thread is... quiet but I'm so excited! When I dropped out of the hobby Unoas seemed all the rage (times are different now?). But I was just able to obtain a Lilin who's been on my wish list FOREVER. I can't even.

She's currently a nomad with me as we're stuck in another state away from home due to COVID-19. So I'm gonna have to dig deep into my craftiness to make her a wig and some clothes. <3 <3

    54. What a beautiful dolls!! Their faces so emotional! I didn’t know about them until this moment. But I’m new in BJD) Are they heavy, the plastic is not thin? I saw video reviews and still can’t understand it. Is it easy to take on and off their hands?

    55. Not plastic. Resin. Hands should be on a hook system. Just depends on your strength to pull the string out and detach said hand. As for weight... It's resin, resin can be considered heavy. I believe most of us call it sturdy rather then heavy. She is a more curvy type and a more sturdy build.

    56. Thanks so much for the answer! And corrections! :) What about clothes? Is it difficult to find or most of people just make it themselves?
