Charm Doll Minis

May 19, 2017

    1. Hello! I did a search and couldn't find any discussion for Charm Doll msd boys and girl. So far there is Nancy and Randy (human) and the new Renard. They are listed as 45cm, so typical msd size.

I have pre ordered my own Renard because I couldn't pass up his cute face and those amazing ears! A very unique sculpt, too bad he seems to be overlooked with all of the new releases this spring.

So please, let's discuss these beautiful sculpts! I'd love to hear your thoughts on them!

    2. I also ordered a Renard, he looked so special and adorable that I just had to have him. Very excited to see owner pictures :) I hope we get our dolls soon!

    3. Me to! So glad someone else got a Renard. What color skin, and did you get the fullset? I got mine in pink skin, blank and bought a different wig (blue). I already have his outfit.

I really hadn't paid much attention to Charm Doll, so I did some research and found out they are an offshoot company by Loongsoul. No wonder I find them so beautiful. They have been around since 2009, and I never looked at them. :doh

    4. I bought mine in pink skin and with the company faceup. I think he's very versatile, excited to see how you'll style him! :)

Wow, I had no idea about Charm Doll, I was actually saving up for a different doll, but then I saw Renard and I just had to have him, so I took the plunge. I guess he might be limited? Or maybe that's just the full set. I really hope the wait takes less than 3 months, I wasn't able to find any time estimation on their orders.

    5. I hope it only takes 2-3 months too. I ordered mine from AC, and I'm thinking maybe August, but sooner is better. Now I'm thinking of what to name him. I do like the company face up and would have gotten it, but I have a color scheme picked out with blue and white, so I'll have to do the face up myself. I'm going to blush the ears with blue and make them look like feathers. I'm not sure what Renard is supposed to be though. The promo pictures show him with a grey fur tail. I'll look up the Little Prince story to see what he is based on.

    6. i also ordered a renard! he's so cute, i love how dreamy his eyes look.

he was a super impulsive buy though so i have no clue what i'm going to do with him... maybe he'll be a sheep?

    7. @kurogane Ooh, icy blue - that sounds great, what color eyes will he wear? I think he's supposed to be a fox, judging by the name and the fluffy tail.

@faintnot Yay, more of us! xD A sheep sounds really cute, mine's going to be a deer/forest boy kind of style.

    8. @Athenril Yes, a fox. I looked up the story as the ears confused me. They don't look fox like, more sheep like. Either way, they are adorable. He will make a great deer too! So many possibilities.

Congratulations @faintnot. I thought he looked like a sheep when I first saw him. Mine was an impulse buy too. I wasn't planning on buying any more dolls.

    9. I found some owner pictures of Renard on Taobao. He definitely looks different than in the promo pictures, but I still like him. The company makeup looks pretty good as well. He needs 12 mm eyes though, IMO.

    10. @Athenril oh, thank you for sharing these pictures! Yes, he does look different, but I think I like him even more. The ears really stick out, that is a bonus for me. I think his eyes look more squinty than the promo pics? Yeah, 12mm is going to look better. Darn, then I'll have to buy some new ones as the ones I have are 14mm. His mouth is adorable. But as mine will be blank, he will look even more different. I hope I can do his face up, they always worry me. These pictures help to remind me why I picked Renard over all the other choices out there!

    11. @kurogane I agree, there is something really special about this sculpt. I think the 14mm eyes make him look sleepy, which I personally don't really like. And I'm sure your faceup will turn out great, judging by the owner pictures, blue color will look fantastic on Renard! :)

    12. @Athenril I am surprised that there are owner pictures already. Renard has just been released! I hope this means the wait will be short as the average Loongsoul wait is 4-5 months. Since Charm Doll is owned by them, I'm thinking the wait times might be the same. I hope not! I have my guy's stuff all ready...

      • x 1
    13. @kurogane I really hope it's 3 months, had I known CharmDoll belonged to LS, I would have reconsidered ordering, 5 months is too long, regardless of how much I love a doll...

    14. @Athenril I totally agree! I think it will be less than 5 months. I'm thinking September. I quit ordering from DZ/DC as the six month waits are awful. I'll just forget about Renard as it helps with the wait (somewhat).

PS Just once in my life I'd like a doll to arrive early, just once!

    15. These pictures are pulled from CharmDoll's weibo~

    16. @Holstein thank you for these pictures! Renard looks so different blank (which I ordered). Thankfully, he looks more like my character than I was expecting. Still, I should have gotten the company face up, I love how they painted in teeth. Still, I'm looking forward to getting mine!

    17. I love the Renard sculpt---have eyed him a few times while browsing ACBJD. :XD: Randy is pretty cute, too!

I look forward to seeing your Renards, @kurogane and @Athenril! :daisy Congrats on your orders!

    18. Thank you @PeppermintPocky. Renard was a totally unplanned purchase. I saw those ears and cute face and a fully formed character insisted I bring him to life. That happens a lot in this hobby. :doh

    19. @Holstein Thank you so much!! Gosh, he is such a cutie, I can't wait to have him home!

      Thank you @PeppermintPocky I couldn't resist his adorable little potato-face :D

    20. I went and looked at the pictures again. I'm so happy I ordered Renard. Just too cute.

    21. I purchased a pink skin blank Renard back when he was put up on Clover-Singing, and these pictures are making me not want to wait any more! He's just so gorgeous.

I found the perfect outfit for him too, but it's a Volks FC outfit, and looking at the measurements I don't know if it will fit, the Charm doll body is taller and wider it seems *_*

    22. Congratulations @Kthulhu42 To be honest, I didn't even look at the measurements and just thought standard msd. I'm hoping mine can wear the msd outfit I got from Alice's Collection. I usually wait until the doll arrives before getting clothes as I've learned this over the years. I already had this outfit, so fingers crossed for us both!

    23. CharmDoll is seriously so awesome when it comes to finding measurements. Usually I have to look everywhere and then sorta guesstimate since I don't know where exactly they've measured... so that deters me from buying anything before I can measure the doll myself. But look! It's *so clear*. Looooove it.

    24. CharmDoll have added a human version of Renard on their blog Sina Visitor System

Also, there are a lot more owner pictures on Taobao now, so the 3 months wait time seems pretty accurate! *excitement intensifies*

    25. Awesome! That means only two months left? Or less!

I have all of his clothing items ready, I hope he doesn't reject them, lol. His name is Mitsuki, and I'm thinking of buying an airbrush so I can do his ears the way I envision them. Plus I wouldn't have to use msc.

    26. I'm so happy I got the fantasy ear sculpt, although the human ear head is cute too <3 He's going to be my forest pan who comes out of the woods and falls in love with a human girl. I hope he can fit in MSD clothes, otherwise he's going to be naked until I get my sewing machine out of storage...

    27. @Kthulhu42 I like your character idea, sounds so romantic (hopefully not tragic). I think he will fit most msd clothing. Just finding the right outfit is the tricky part.

Mine has a 'fantasy Japanese anime theme' with a short Kimono, and Asian style jacket I made myself. I'm still searching for shoes as I want white, but not girly. So far I have seen the style, but never in white! I might have to make some.

    28. Oh man, I hope I can still jump in the discussion? The dealer I usually buy off just became dealer of Charmdoll, and I looked at some of the dolls they offered. Saw Renard and I was lost. I ordered him today - with faceup and white skin. I'm so happy I did so, I love his droopy eyes and his big ol' ears. I'm pretty sure he'll fit right in with my other crew members Runar (dollzone freddy) and Hazel (DIM flowne). I'm such a sucker for fantasy dolls ;_;

    29. Yes, jump right in @Heliotropium! We're all still waiting for ours to ship, and discussing our plans. Freddy and Flowne are personal favorites of mine. My collection is mostly unusual sculpts. It was Renard's ears that got me too.

    30. @Kthulhu42 That sounds really cute, I'm going for a sort of forest boy look as well. He should be standard MSD size so hopefully clothes will fit him without a problem.

@kurogane That sounds like an AMAZING style idea, I hope you will post many pictures! :) I'm going to name my boy Theo, I like to keep it simple, name-wise.

@Heliotropium Congrats on your order! Renard really is such a special sculpt. You have a great collection, I used to own a Freddy and he was gorgeous and I love Flowne as well. :)

    31. @Athenril Thank you! I have everything ready, and will take pictures when he gets here. Mine is named Mitsuki. I used to have a human Freddy head. Amazing how we seem drawn to similar aesthetics.

I checked on my order not expecting anything, and I am happy to see it will be two months on July 20 since I ordered. Somehow I was thinking I've only waited one month. So half way?

    32. @kurogane (and @Athenril ) Thank you! Freddy and Flowne are some of my ultimate grails I neeeeeeever thought I would have, then I got them both ;o; My Flowne also finally got a body last week after being just a head for a year. (I hope it's allowed to share that on this thread, hah! ;v;) But unusual sculpts is definitly what draws me as well, although I also love "standard" dolls who are popular with everybody. But yes, the eaaars. And the droopy face. ♥w♥

I think it's funny how we 3 are drawn to the same sculpts? ;o; talking about freddy and flowne here, haha! ^^~

Also I've come up with a name for my Renard? The name Fons keeps popping up in my head. I like it and I think it fits in a way, but Fons is in my area mostly used as a name for older people, so I'm pretty sure my parents and boyfriend will make fun of it <-<

    33. @Heliotropium Congrats on completing your Flowne! :) I think it's pretty cool how we like similar sculpts!

Fons is a super cute name, it made me chuckle x3 I think it's perfect for Renard. Ahh, I can't wait to have him home q.q

    34. @Athenril Thanks! ♥ Now she only needs a faceup. I also should start making clothes and making some flowercrowns, but I'm so tired and have no motivation at all >-<

Thank you! :3 I think the name is cute, but maybe it's a middle name. Hmm...

    35. @Heliotropium I like Fons as a name too!

I finally have all Mitsuki's outfit together except the shoes. The shoes can wait until I find the right ones, or make my own. I've tried making my own doll shoes, but so far none have been 'good enough'. Maybe with msd, it will be different?

Also I'm seriously considering getting an airbrush to do my face ups. That way I won't need msc anymore, and I can use gouache watercolor paints and get fine lines, with porcelain like finish. Only issue, it's going to take a while to save up for one as I have other doll expenses to pay off first. And by the time I can get an airbrush, it will be winter, so no face ups till summer. Looks like next summer will be very face up busy!

    36. @kurogane An airbrush seems really good for faceups, but wouldn't you still need MSC? I imagine the paint wouldn't stick to the resin well enough and rub off afterwards if it's not sealed? I am just guessing from what I've seen other people do though, I haven't done any faceups myself.

I really want to try making shoes myself, because I can't find the kind of boots that I like for a reasonable price. Finding some thin leather is proving pretty difficult though xD

    37. @Athenril you can use acrylic matte varnish with the airbrush. It's the water clean up sealer you normally use with a paint brush. Not as toxic as msc, but still need a mask. Plus it's water clean up, and easily obtained at the craft store. Yes, finding thin enough leather is very difficult. I have read about using fine leather gloves as it is very nice and thin leather, but cutting up a good pair seems so wrong. Synthetic materials just don't glue well, or fray too much. I admire the handmade shoes on Etsy a lot!

    38. @kurogane I see, that is definitely a great alternative to MSC, it can cost a fortune to buy, depending where you live. I love looking at the handmade shoes as well, but so expensive too x3 I was thinking of buying some leftover craft leather, don't really need big pieces for shoes, but we'll see.

    39. My Renard shipped!! He should be here Monday-Tuesday'ish. The agent sent me pictures and he looks lovely, but the faceup...I don't know. I think it's the first and last time I'm ordering a default faceup, should have just saved the money towards a professional faceup x3 I waited exactly 10 weeks for him, so CharmDoll has pretty great delivery time!

    40. @Athenril That's excellent news! Be sure to link to your box-opening thread that you're totally gonna make. ;D Lol.

    41. @Holstein How did you read my mind? xP This is my first doll in 3 years so I will definitely make a box opening! xD

    42. @Athenril congratulations! Please do share your box opening! So sad about the face up. The ones I saw on line looked good, but each one could turn out different.

Mine must be getting close as I ordered two months ago. Maybe in another couple weeks? I'm all ready for him.

    43. @kurogane Yeah, you should be getting your boy home soon as well! :) I'm relieved it wasn't a 5-month wait, like LS, haha.

Of course I don't expect top quality from a company faceup, but I think they at least could have gotten the eyebrows symmetrical xD Plus, they put a lot of glitter on his face, I wonder if that's going to look strange in photos. Well, I will see when he arrives, at the very least I'll get him repainted in a few months.

    44. @Athenril Glitter? I don't remember seeing glitter in the promo pics, but then again I didn't look closely at the company face up as I was going to get him blank to save money, plus I want to blush his ears blue and white. Yeah, a company face up should have symmetry! Wonky eyebrows aren't acceptable. Really sad as it's a waste of money.

    45. @kurogane I had no idea you didn't need MSC with airbrushes? I'd really like to get into faceups myself, but I'm way too insecure about that (Though I know that from time to time you just have to... do it.)

Also cutting up a decent pair is indeed sad. Maybe try your luck at flea markets? Or at second hand shops. ^^

I should really get to making stuff for my dolls. Now it's vacation I don't have any motivation at all, but during the schoolyear i'd complain I have no dolly time. I should just grab my sewing machine and go. <-<

EDIT: glitter in his faceup? :0 I haven't noticed as well >-< Glad you guys' wait are almost over! ♥ I'll have to wait another month or 3 I assume. (ordering through dealer soooo it's taking a bit longer i suppose ~_~ )

    46. @Heliotropium yes, that is the good news about airbrushs! I watch the UTube videos of Nicolle's Dreams and she uses an airbrush with matte acrylic varnish. I need to find out exactly what brand she uses, but that got me excited as I hate msc, or anything toxic. I used to have an airbrush but got rid of it when I was done with art school. I thought I'd never use one again, but I regret it now as airbrushes are expensive (the quality ones). It will be over $100 and I'll need an air compressor, and other supplies. As much as a mid priced bjd, lol. Still debating if it might be easier just to commission face ups, but I have never hired a professional face up artist before. Blank dolls are beginning to grow on me as I see mine everyday! :aeyepop:

Oh, forgot! I ordered from Alice's Collections so mine might take a little more. I counted up the weeks and this is week 9. I was thinking three to four months, but hey, if he comes early, YAY!

    47. @Heliotropium You should totally make something! It's fun! I recently made some cute flower crowns and I've been practicing crochet to make some hats or little accessories. I wish I could sew, but I don't even have a sewing machine.

@kurogane I'd say an airbrush is a good investment if you have many dolls, but with all the supplies it seems quite expensive indeed. I prefer to commission faceups and I've only had pleasant experiences so far.

Maybe glitter is the wrong word, it's like....tiny shimmery particles all over his face. It's a bit much, haha.

    48. Humm, shimmery face up. I've seen more of them lately from companies. Not sure if I like them or not. I guess it depends on the character.

I hope your Renard looks better in RL @Athenril. That is good news about commissioned face ups. The right face up makes the doll complete.

Knowing my Renard is getting closer to being ready, is getting me excited.

    49. @kurogane ah man! The regret of throwing stuff out once done with school. Haha. Well, if you're already Involved with faceups and think it's worth spending.... Do it! Maybe you could even do commissions in the future! And yeah, blank dolls are growing on me as Well with Hazel. Though I hope to see her with a faceup soon!

@Athenril You know what? Today I totally did. I grabbed my fimo, my fake flowers and other stuff i could use, and I totally made some Jackilope inspired flowercrown for Dauw (Fons' (Renard) sister). :3 and im so satisfied with the outcome, and I had so much fun. Also made horns for Hazel which I will make a flowercrown later for.
With the leftover Fimo im going to make Mickey Mouse ears for my non-BJD doll who will travel with me to Disneyland Paris! Me and my boyfriend are going to semi-cosplay Red Queen and White Rabbit when in Red Queen's court and my doll will be dressed as Alice, so the headband Will be Alice themed :3
(Hope it's okay to talk about this x.x)

AND! I just checked my dealer, and since Charm doll belongs to Loongsoul (and it says so on my receipt too), I checked when she'll order with Loongsoul and it's the 27th of this month :D wooo! *Running around like a madman because I had coffee*
Sidenote, I hope you get your dolls soon enough, although it's going to take a little Longer for you, @kurogane

    50. @Heliotropium That sounds great! :) I'm a huge fan of everything Alice-themed, I hope you'll have a great time! And I love making flower crowns, I finally found some tiny flowers in a local store and it's super cute. Hopefully you won't have to wait long for your boy, CD seem like they deliver within the promised dates. :)

And in case we've gotten too off-topic, Charm Doll released a new 42 cm girl, Joyce Joyce, 42cm Charm Doll Girl - BJD Dolls, Accessories - Alice's Collections She's pretty cute!

    51. Joyce is cute! I can see her as a girl or boy.

Thankfully no 'special' ears. I'm safe. Sticking with unusual ears, or face sculpts is helping keep the collecting under control.

    52. @Athenril Lucky! I have a hard time finding small, pretty flowers. Most I've found are crappy, too big, too "fake". BUT! When cleaning the atelier at school (as one of the few 10 from a group of over +50 people) before summer, they found this huge box of decorative flowers with..... yep, decorative flowers that are PERFECT. and you know what? I took them XD Other people were snatching up clothing (it was a huge clothing stock we were cleaning up) and I snatched up those 8) I finished the Mickey Mouse ears today as well and I adore them ♥ now I'm all set for disneyland :D I have no idea when I'll have Renard, but I'm not going to worry about it. The shipping note will come in a few months ^^

And Joyce is adorable, wow! I love the combination of the faceup and the skin color on the stock photos, along with those pretty eyes. But I'm safe though, not really the "wow i want!" feeling like I had with Renard.

    53. @Athenril I checked out your box opening. Aww, he is so much better looking than I expected.

    54. @kurogane Thank you, but I think that would make things too complicated. :) I've kind of warmed up to his faceup as he's been sitting next to me here, so I don't know how soon I'll get him repainted. Here's a fancy beauty shot I took before the sun disappeared. :) I'd like to get him a different wig and eyes, but I don't know what kind yet.

    55. I understand. He does look so cute how you have him dressed. :love

This is the beginning of the 10th week of waiting for me. So close.

    56. @Athenril Oh my lord, he's gorgeous. I know he's just borrowing things, but I totally love your pastel mori-esque aesthetic for him, ahahaha.

Your pictures show off is sweet, droopy eyes so well. Aaaaa~ (I'm gonna post in your box-opening thread later so more people can experience him haha).

    57. @CalamityoftheStorm Thank you! :) No, he doesn't come with that outfit. The shirt and pants are from a company called Amors, the necklace and flower crown was made by me, and everything else I've bought from Taobao over the years.

@Holstein Thank you! :blush The mori kei style is my absolute favorite for dolls, but it's also a real struggle to find clothes in that style xD I am so happy he can wear those shoes, I've had them for ages and none of my dolls could fit in them before!

    58. I dug out a different wig and eyes for Theo, it's actually a YoSD wig, but it fits him easily. :)
