Sorry to be a hit and run lurker lately. We've been scrambling to make use of the good weather to get last minute outside chores done. Then spent the weekend with my work-a-holic DH hanging drywall. On the ceiling too. I'm 5'4", not an easy task.

DollZ, you about gave me a heart attack. I thought you had lost Tiggy in some inaccessable place. SO relieved that everything turned out well. Now I KNOW where Tiggy gets her attitude.

DarkStar, sending you HUGE hugs. Nothing seems the same when there is such an absence in your life.

Coleen, giving all three kitties liquid medicine?? I thought one was bad. Ended up wearing a fair amount of it.

I am so impressed with all the Halloween costumes. My poor crew didn't get changed at all this year. Much to their relief I imagine. The pumpkin costumes were a riot and that was certainly one sexy looking red devil. Had to laugh over Trinity/nurse/blood bank. Brilliant.

Leo, glad to hear the allergy meds are working. Horrible having to work in an area on a daily basis that gives you such a reaction. Two months can be a VERY long time.

Tappin, so glad you are in less pain. Head pain of any kind is the worst. Hugs to all of you having root canals and such.

Winternight, hope you are continuing to improve. The sight of all these people texting and talking on cell phones scares me. It only takes a second of inattention to cause an accident. Hugs to you for having to endure that entrapment on the backboard. Listen to Tappen, they NEVER should have left you alone like that.

RoseAnn, Tiggy's pinkmost dress is a marvel. How you managed to sew something that small after what you did to your thumbs .... you are amazing.

SpookyJ, I would love to see your Halloween story whenever you get a break, even if it is after Christmas. We certainly understand just how hectic and demainding college is. I'm glad you got a chance to go home, sometimes that is just what you need. Remember, the first year is the hardest. It does get better.

Don't worry, gang, I am always here! I try to check in at least twice a day (this is my morning "check-in" - yes, I know it is a little late - I have actually been doing wash and stuff like that and this is the first chance today I had to get here). I am laughing at all the Halloween misadventures including the rude person who expects MuJa to be a mind reader and know she is expecting a Fuuga even though she was apparently never on the waiting room thread or the wiki! I am certain we will not see that person here on this thread. If we do, I am sure there are any number of FireFlies who would like to show her how FF keepers are expected to behave! Lana, the suggestion that she purchase a ticket to the Netherlands was a good one - in fact, maybe that should be added to the waiting room thread for those who are just now bothering to check to see what is going on!

We had a pretty dull Halloween around here too. Lots of candy left over - fortunately mostly chocolate so lots of happy endorphins for me! Okay, my chore break is about over.

 

Yaaay Darkstar - Man, you have no IDEA how much you have been missed! Tiggs was threatening to go Trick or Treatsin ta Ya's in personables, but then of course got locked up for a bit....


To be fair, both MuJa and I did hear back from that person, they did apologize profusely, and I now do believe they truly did not mean to come off so rudely. I explained that we had worked around the clock those first two weeks getting things out FAST so worried that the window which had so suddenly and unexpectedly opened, could close at any time, and all that was stressful enough, and then the stragglers showed up, apparently not realizing we were merely fellow customers, so anyway. They are sending shipping to MuJa and did apologize profusely. Frankly as I told them, I just have gotten increasingly annoyed about those who showed up so after the fact - "gimme my doll" but in this case, I really think the person meant no harm, and just was clumsy because they didnt know us, and maybe were even trying not to get their hopes up too much, I dont know. Anyway I am now hoping we will have a new Fuuga coming to play soon.

 

Just knowing that TiGGy and a few of the other Fidelias were threatening to exact revenge for that etiquette misstep towards their beloved Muja should have been enough to instill humility in even the most hardened offender!

 

Yep - I am quite sure this person had No idea how truly thin that ice is with these Fireflies, EXSpecially when it comes to anyone who messes wids Our MUJA!

 

Maybe little Fuuga will just not bond with such a rude person and will be freed to finally come and play here with a decent guardian.

Ack poor SpookyJester - no playtime! AND a cold! I will hurry up on this scarf I am making! I am actually carrying it about with me doing it between everything, I just am really slow when it comes to people sized objects.

Man, I played that contemporary solo piece again tonight and my husband thought it was great but I totally felt like I sucked. I am depressed. ARRRGH! Ugh Ptew Ptew Ptew! I am tired and really really burned out right now, and this week is looming with all sorts of new stuff, all classical and students but I am still BLECH!

One good thing, I ran out of gum and FOUND Tiggy's Pinkmost Boots that Indigo had made! WHEW!

In other news, I ordered alot of dolls lately and find I just am sort of, well, I dont know....the anticipation was better than whatever.... Maybe I just havent had enough time to play. I dont know. I am burned out. Tiggy just endlessly fascinates me. I wish I had this bond with some other doll I could cuddle and hold, but I just dont. Dont get me wrong, I love my dollies, but something about Tiggy just is very special to me. I havent even had time to make her anything, nor play with her family and sisters..... I am tired and burned out. arrgh....

We are family. Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I am starting to feel little spurts of happiness again, especially when I stop in here. DollZwize, that is sort of the way Tris' passing affected me - just couldn't get interested in anything and what should have brought me pleasure just seemed so bleh or even kind of painful. Nothing was really mattering, I was just so overwhelmed with loss I couldn't feel anything but that - I guess I was "burned out" in a sense. I hope things will start to wind down for you; at least not be so difficult even if you still are busy. Lily and Peri have just watched and waited for me. They know that I will be come around again and, being fairies who have lived a very long time, they are patient and wise when it comes to certain things, as are all our FireFlies. They give us what we need, even if that is to step back for a little while and let us find our ways on our own when we need to. (Although, of course, they would always much rather be doing it with us if not outright pointing the way and shouting advice and directions and tugging us along!)

How I wish I'd bought about a dozen of those motorcycles! One dollar! I still always check that Dollar Store in hopes they will get more in so every FireFly on this thread could have one in case she needed one! Someday I will stumble on some more and then look out!

The PINKY SWEAR...........oh it seems so long ago since our girls started with it and I am still impressed when I see the pictures.
Razzy you are such a beauty and both the three sisters, gorgeous shamrock and clover ......only miss the third.....trefoil sisters.

In the reinforcing thread of Leo someone mentioned that it is amazing how much we care for them, that we take it when the dolls are not perfect and need so much work before we can play with it. She is right, but also she is not a FFF owner and cannot feel what we feels when we look and hold a glowbutt in our hand.

And we are so much cheaper than shrinks! Sunday night, I happened to glance into the kitchen where Pearl is currently occupying space on the table waiting for me to sand down the mess I made of her eyes reinforcing them and then getting to her face up (I am hoping to get some work in on her tomorrow, finally) and I noticed she was glowing. Now, this might not seem odd, but she is buried under a pretty thick layer of bubble wrap and the kitchen light is not that close to her nor is it usually on for too long. And this doll is glowing like the dickens anyway. I think it was her little glowbutt way of telling me to snap out of it and get to work on her. Yes, I guess I better! (I am already expecting a nip or two when I pick her back up - hopefully this vampire business doesn't transfer between humans and fae!)

 

If it did my butt would be glowing quite brightly. Thistle Anne may not be a vampire but Miriam gave her little teeth and she knows how to use them.

 

I love to lurk in this thread, I would kill to have one (or more) of these precious boys and girls in my family. I have never seen tiny dolls with so much character in their faces. Not to mention beauty of course !

 

One of the nicest things about the Fireflies is that they are only girls :0) of course, SOME PEOPLE'S fireflies are BOY CRAZY but I think they just learned that bad habit from their human

What you say is very true though, they have a real life to their faces that so many other dolls do not.

I dont think my walking into walls is anywhere nears what all you have been going through, but what a beautiful message you wrote, and it is amazing isnt it how our little glow fiends just do wait till we get all infused with their energy again - How Cool you are reinforcing Pearl yourself! I am too scared too, and have been too slammed to do any sending yet. I know I have to send at least Vampfae and poor Phaedra and I just cant peel them away just yet. Hunter could really use a lovely workup too, but I just cant seem to send them away yet, nor can I imagine being able to do it myself. Wow, I sure wish I could. What a beautiful image of her glowing away. I so love these little ones!

Imajica - Man, I SO still want to spell that with a G - cant believe spent like a YEAR spelling your name wrong! OMG - and I read the Book! Welcome Miss Edith! We all began here as lurkers waiting for our Fireflies to find us. Tiggy showed up unexpectedly long after Fidelias had been sold out, and Fuuga's were my actual first choice - who knew that this little dimensional face would so steal my heart and inspire me, and bring me into such a wonderful group of Firefly Gals!

yay! I have a day off! I hope to get lots of crafty stuffs done tonight. I made chickin pot roast and it was so yummy! Razzy and Bleu are demanding attention

 

Leo, how do you make a chicken pot roast??? That sounds like something that definitely takes some firefly help to do, did Lily and Peri visit? ...I can just see TiGGy saying "Dangs, dey done turned dat cow into a chicken!" There's got to be some kind of citation for that...

DollZ you gots to send the girls off...we have never gotten to see nearly enough of little Phaedra so you gots a lots of makin's up to do. I think she must want her time in the sun too.

 

I know how you feel, DollZwize. I had no trouble shipping Tulliver Rimspark off to the spa in hopes something may be made of him, but I couldn't bear the thought of not doing Pearl myself. Well, the day I was reinforcing her eyes, the phone rang during a very delicate part and **snap** out went a piece of a corner of one eye! My nerves. So, I think I got it fixed pretty well - she's just going to be a little more goth than I intended so that I can black up that area which is now white from the epoxy. Still have to try to bevel the insides of the eyes a bit better. I kept using a 10mm bead as I filled in to make sure they would sit properly, but once the epoxy dried I discovered the bottoms were a bit gappy. So, a trip to Sally Shops to get those little sanding sticks - the only thing I could think of to try to sand them down a little better so the eyes fit as they should (I wouldn't dare try my dremel, that would be asking for trouble). Then on to her face up. So I am hoping to do the sanding tomorrow and maybe get a first coat of MSC on her. Maybe by next week we will finally have Pearl to reunite with her sisters. And Tully home soon, I hope (though who knows what he is going to wear - I imagine he is a little too big for Tommy clothes!).

Okay, a few days at work and I am totally lost on this thread again. Tiggy potted a chicken and Leo roasted it? Always wondered what was in those cans of "potted meat" at the grocery store. Suspicious substances if you ask me...

 

How Tilly Moon gets those lady bugs to just march right into the stew pot is beyond me. And she looks so fantastic doing it.

Believe me, I sure understand about the sending off of our little ones. Why do you think Miri is still with me, wearing her little blank face??

if you have the tiny silver dremel tools, they are handy to use without the dremel! I have a stash here at my desk that I just hold in hand and gently turn, or file to do delicate work with, you have a lot of control and all the good shaped tools still

well....I use my wonderfull pressure cooker, with a metal bowl inserted to prevent the steam water from diluteing the roast (pot roast in less than an hour! XD ) I use chicken thighs, red potatoes, onion, mushrooms, garlic, rosemary, pepper and a healthy slosh of white wine... presure cook on the meat setting for 35 minutes of rocking and YUMMMMM....the chicken flakes apart with a fork. the hardes part is smelling the steamy scent while the pressure is comeing down enough to open it!

you can also do the same with red meat and red wine. its just as yummy, I just cube the meat into 3 to 4 inch cubes before putting them in the bowl insert. and set the timer for 50 minutes of rockin'!

I worked on dolly clothes while waiting! I got the first item for the christmas exchange done and its so cute!

 

I'm a firm believer in pressure cookers too. I used the old fashioned kind of stove top pressure cooker for 25 years or so up until a year ago and I got an electric pressure cooker...even easier!!! I love it. I've always cooked pot roasts in them...just throw in the roast with some lipton mushroom onion soup sprinkled over it and let it go until it falls apart and it makes its own gravy. Occasionally I do like making them the old fashioned way in the oven...especially on really cold blustery days. I have never heard a chicken called a pot roast though I also pressure cook whole chicken just to easily debone it and use the meat for casseroles, etc. but half the time we end up eating it just out of the pressure cooker because it tastes so good. Great...now I'm HUNGRY!

Susan it is a wonder when meat march into your pot by itself, only Tilly Moon can do that ! Rati who promised never chop and eat ladybugs again is looking like:" hmmm it was only a temporary promise."

I thought a roast is meat on fire and pot meat is cooked ? or do you cook it first and than roast or roast it and after it cook ?..oo now I am totally confused, but I am hungry now. I wonder if I have a cauldron like Tilly ( big one) the sheep will walk into my pot and than Leo I will follow your recipe .......hmmm sounds so good.

 

Arrghh! All of you talking about delicious food! I've got to eat at the cafeterias, you know! And there's no kitchen so I can't cook. (Not that i'm any sort of chef but I can at least make pasta and tomato sauce competently, unlike the people who work in the dining halls.)

Unfortunately my parents don't see food as a good enough reason to come home.

Man, I do understand the wishes of everyone to see more Phaedra, and am heartened that others have had difficulty sending our loved ones off too. I really hope to get to this when I have some time. Racing out the door for an all day/evening new set of stuff in VA. Keep the pics comin, I hope to hop on to at least peek during the next 10-12 hours! Man, I was supposed to be out the door already!

Well Muja, that is English for you...a roast is typically a cut of meat...pork, beef or lamb, but is basically a big old hunk. OR it can be the way its cooked...like roasted in an oven or over a fire. Pot roasts were in the beginning big tough hunks of meat that were cooked in a pot of water or broth on top of the stove until they were tender enough to eat. I do pot roasts in the oven the same way as they were cooked in a dutch oven on top of the stove, a beef or pork roast, in a dutch oven with water and mushroom onion soup mix for seasoning for an hour and a half in the oven or until its almost done then add potatoes and carrots to cook. The broth cooks down to gravy. In the pressure cooker I just use less water because it doesn't cook away as much since its steam that cooks the meat, but it ends up the same way...falling apart tender. A chicken in the pressure cooker is the same way...falls right off of the bone...oh yum! I really miss being at home to cook more. Its one of the things I love doing but takes so much time, yet is so much better for you than restaurant and fast food too.

 

Aaahhh now I understand, I really thought a roast is a peace of roasted meat above fire, in the grill or in a iron pan with butter. I love soft roast beef or lamb ( I don't eat pork) but my children like roasted, rare and medium meat more as the meat that falls apart.
In the Indonesian kitchen you cook the meat really tender, because they only use " old " meat and hard chicken. I was a cooking teacher for ten years and the students always love Indonesian food.

 

If you cook as well as you sew and make tiny houses and habitats, MuJa, well, let's just say I am sure I would get very fat very quickly on your wonderful cooking!

Pearl is happy with me today. I got her eyes beveled out pretty well and mixed her pastels. I needed to give her head another bath after all that sanding, so I'm not going to get her first coat of MSC on today (I don't trust the epoxy to dry as quickly as resin and I don't want to seal any of it wet). Hopefully tomorrow. She's not getting much of a face up so she should be joining us soon!

 

DarkStar, where do you think my big butt is coming from? ........lol Oh poor Spooky, cafeteria food is bad, the same as hospital food, too long cooked and too soft.
I am sure Pearl will be beautiful, I cannot wait to see her. How do you bond with the others, I really need time with every doll new comes in my life. I am happy they are together in the Big House and becomes a team, but I need to get a spark between me and the newcomer. No not a lightning, I already have many bad hair days!

 

I was reading several posts back My flickr is full of things that are for sale some one inquired about my Firefly and I nearly lost my mind LOL I know I have things for sale BUT NOT A FF!!!! ahhhhh as if the person knew so i had to take it down about 4 notches before I responded. Someone inquired if my MOTH was for sale HAGHAHAGAAG that is a good one too (yes when I am dead) and only if you can pry them from my dead hands LOL Morbid huh I know Hallloween is over but sell My babies!!

The cafeteria is one of the only things I miss from my college days. My college also owned a professional catering business and the caterers where actually our school cooks! I'm lucky I didn't weigh 400 pounds when I graduated There was one "motherly" type caterer who made homemade bread for us dormers almost every night! MMmmmmmmmm hot fresh baked bread sounds really good right now!

1Mim...I say the same thing...Thistle Anne and Primrose would have to be pried out of my cold dead hands and even then it would probably be a fight. I wanted so much to have a vamp faceupped by Miriam/Sweetly Twisted to go with Thistle Anne and Primrose (who were both faceupped and body blushed by Miriam) as a set. Maybe one day one will come along but I may have to settle for a minipuke vamp Aki though she won't be the same at all. Or maybe even find another Fidelia or Fuuga and ask Miriam to mod her with fangs. I probably shouldn't say that too loudly or TA will be stomping around in her green IF boots that Lily and Peri so kindly sent her :0)

Muja, I wish you could find out where the IF boots were made, it would be so nice to get more of them in different colors...they fit the minipukes too...

Actually, I have not really bonded with any of the dolls yet. I know it will be a matter of working with each of them. Sadly, Tris was pretty sick around the time they arrived and I was so focused on him. Now I am hoping that as I work on each doll, I will get a sense of who she or he is. I had stories for all of them at the time I bought them, but some I barely remember now. But Pearl and Tully (because she is a FireFly) were always very "real" in my mind so I know who they are and how they are related to Lily and Peri. (Though I am not sure how they will interact with them - that we will just all have to see together!)

Oh, our cafeteria in college was a nightmare! A constant procession of mystery meats in odd colored gravies every night. The best was breakfast because there was a guy on the griddle who did omelets to order, so that was the one good meal of the day you could depend on. There wasn't even a decent pizza place near campus. The only one had these pizzas that you had to blot off with paper towel before you ate them. I don't know where all the grease came from! It's not something you usually find on a pizza!

LOL, yes, 1mim and Lana, God help the person who wanted one of my FireFlies or, really, most of my regular crew! It would feel like selling a child! I may just stipulate in my last wishes that they be buried or cremated with me if I can't find the right person to leave them to! Lana, I do hope you find your vampire Fidelia! Maybe when the time is right she will just find you and save you the trouble of searching! How funny - mine will all have face ups from different places: Miriam, Charles and now me.
