    1. In Japan, very often a manga is made into an anime, and then into a live-action multi-episode drama, like "Boys over Flowers," "Nodame Cantabile," and "Sailor Moon." (You can download the dramas fron the Internet, or buy them legally from YesAsia.com). My doll would be similar to a cosplayer, but actually an actress in a drama based on, say, Wallflower (Wallflower is only a manga and anime right now, but it would make a great drama if it was done right!). The drama would be a fun, ongoing story, but the actress would have her private life as well. Not unlike cosplay, but with more of a structure.

    2. I have my boy Zero, who i based him and is... Zero Kiryu from Vampire Knight. its harder than i thought it was going to be (especially his outfit) but in the end, he'll be totally worth it, my next is Nabiki cosplaying as Ranma from Ranma 1/2

    3. Mine looks like Kaname from Vampire Knight =3

    4. I don't have character dolls because I prefer to create original personalities for my dolls. Even the closest to having character dolls is for my dolls to cosplay, but i do not intend to do so for now. But, my boy's name is from a manga (Asagi from Catergory: Freaks)

    5. I dont have them yet, but I want to make a Zero from Vampire knight, a kyo frim fruits basket, and hermione (Emma Watson) from harry potter

    6. i only make my dolls into MY characters :)

    7. I have serious plans to make the F4 (From "Hana Yori Dango" a/k/a: "Boys Over Flowers"). In fact i've chosen my Rui and my Tukasa... I just can't find a good Sojiro and Akira (that are the same size). I started a thread about it a while back, but it got pruned. :(

Oh, and of course... I need to save up the money for these boys. I keep trying to save up, and then spending it on someone else (like my Volks SDC Ryu that's still not here yet) that I just *have* to have, and can't wait on (cause it's a limited or whatever).

    8. My econd doll is going to be Roronoa Zoro. I wasn't planning on it but my friend talked me into it. ^^''

    9. *power glomp* you rock!!! mold mold mold mold?

    10. My wife and I and two female friends (one 17, and the other about our age) are into Japanese and Korean dramas, and our friends are really into the cute male actors, what series they starred on, what pop group they they started out with, etc. The live version of Boys over Flowers is even better than the manga or anima! It ran for two seasons. I got it from YesAsia.com for about $70 per season, but by now you can probably get it from Netflix or the Public Library.
Anyway, the same stable of bishi actors tend to appear in the Japanese dramas, so if you make dolls of the live actors from F4, you can use them as characters in lots of other stories, giving you the excuse to buy new clothes for them.

    11. I currently have a Minimee Riku, who I really did try to make into an original character. But it isn't working, 'cause I look at the doll and can only think Riku. So Riku he shall be. :sweat

But, I've had...um.. Cloud from FFVII, Zack from the same, a Fullmetal Alchemist character and I think that's it. I didn't end up keeping them, because once I fell out of love with the series, I lost interest in having its characters in doll form. That said, the doll I'm waiting for now will be a young-child version of my favorite Death Note character.

    12. d-D? Did someone mention Count D?!:fangirl::D:love:barf I got a tad carried away, it's just he's semi-obscure, but such an intrigueing character! I'm gonna go stalk down your pics of your doll now....*end freakout* He would make a damn good BJD with those eyes....*I lied*

    13. I have both original and also a doll who is based on my favorite character of a game series I really love. It's Soren of the Fire Emblem series :aheartbea I wished one day I get the hero (Ike:aheartbea) of this series too, but it's quite difficult to find a perfect mold... Well, I already have one in mind, but unfortunately a quite rare one

    14. I don't have one as of yet, but I do intend to get someone to be Kaname from Vampire Knight. :sweat

    15. I never really understood this type of fan stuff, I mean I'm fan of chars ,anime too ,but I'll never do anything more then watch a series. Or perhaps make a rare fanart . I can't and will never like it when other ppl take these chars and start making up things for them, to me it feels horribely wrong becouse that person is not the owner of the character.

please note that this my own opinion, I'm pretty sure I always stepped on a hell of allot of toes with this ethic of mine.

    16. ...well, it definitely doesn't seem like the right thread to post it in, if you weren't trying to step on toes ;)

    17. I would love to have my own mini little Albel Nox and Fayt Leingod from Star Ocean 3. It's honestly a goal of mine. They're in my top 5 dolls to own before I die. XD

    18. I'm planning 2 book characters and 2 manga characters (no details as they are only plans yet). And I don't want to do minimee even for manga chars, I want to find look-a-likes based on how I perceive them. But as I'm seriously intending to have 10= dolls of my original characters, those four will be a minority... and I'm doing a crossover (like in fanfiction) to bring all characters into my original dolls story '*_*'

    19. I've got a Mini Dolfie Dream, they are based of manga/anime or video game characters. Mine is based after Mayu Tamano from Rumbling Hearts. I never saw the actual show but I liked her pretty face so much I instantly wanted to have her. The seller (bought her of the Marketplace) sent me a video of her character. And it looks like it inspired me for the character she has right now. But I don't know if it's completely the same, maybe I should watch Rumbling Hearts sometime...

    20. I have 2 dolls who are minimees who are going to be original characters who will cosplay characters they have been (Alice from Resident Evil and Leonidus from 300) But I have a head that isn't quite right for the character but I'm seriously thinking of either turning him into the character or basing him of him.

    21. I only have dolls that are influenced by my own created characters but I have been thinking a young Hannibal (like from Hannibal Rising) would be awesome.

    22. I have been thinking of doing a doll from one of the artist BROM's drawings. He is an artist who does a lot of Dungeon and Dragon drawings. There's a certain drawing called "little miss muffet" that to me would be a great doll. I just need a sewing machine that would go through leather.

    23. I am generally not interested in recreations of other people's characters, having a head full of my own, but I would like to have a sort of alternate universe version of Yuuko from Xxxholic, just to dress her in similarly amazing outfits and take photos of similarly lovely sets.

    24. yeah i have one on his way but it not somthing i do normally

    25. You know what really annoys me? Seeing the characters that I hated the most from a certain medium, be it book, anime, movie or whatever. This is all just personal opinion -- but god, my skin crawls when I do come across minimes because I just wonder, why the hell would you want to embody all those horrible traits into a doll?

      Just, no. No.

I mean, they didn't even personify the cool characters. :(

But yeah... generally, I don't think I would base my doll off someone else's creation. It's kind of like, well, I have enough of my own little ideas for it, why waste the money on re-creating someone else's vision?

Mind you, the last thing I obsessed over fandom wise was Teen Titans, so eh. But even then, it would only be so I could make Raven and Robin hook up and take photos of them and then post them all over Starfire/Robin boards for the lulz.

      :)

    26. Late to the party here, but you seriously rock. :D I've been considering dolling a Teatime, too...and a Susan to keep him in line. xD;

    27. That would be MADE. OF. WIN.
      D:

Thanks ^_^ You'll probably end up with a set before I do, though, since I'm still in student mode and I keep on lusting after these other dolls to boot. I know which doll I'd use for him, too-- and which set of eyes.
Never thought of a Susan, though, but that would be fun ^_^

Victor right now is shaping up to be reminiscent personality-wise of one of my favourite characters from Les Miz-- one of the Frenchboys-- ahem, Amis de A.B.C. (Frenchboys just rolls off the tongue, though.) He doesn't appear to be a fanmaker, though. Sigh.

    28. I'd want a Gackt or Miyavi doll since I LOVE these artists so much! :)

    29. Ahh for me it's a love-hate thing... I can understand a devotion to a character, but unless someone can really pull it off, I think it can be a bit off-putting :sweat That being said, I have been planning (for quite some time) to make two Gelfling dolls of Jen and Kiera from The Dark Crystal. :aheartbea

    30. I have the Medicine Seller (Kusuri Uri) who's from Ayakashi (Bakeneko arc) and Mononoke. I actually bought Medicine Seller's head with the intent to wipe his face-up and turn him into one of my characters...then I watched the shows and fell in love. XD I also have a Minimee of Sakurai Atsushi (Buck-Tick) and he's going to be just that. XD There are some other characters and people I wouldn't mind having dolls of, but I'm focusing on my original characters for now (all of my other dolls are OCs).

    31. OMG :? I wanna a Kusuri uri-san too :aheartbea he's the one and only character doll I've planned :)

Right now he's my favourite anime chara ever XD But I'll gonna make him on my own

    32. Hmm... I have some pretty serious plans for a character from Naruto (yes lame, I know). Actually a lot of it is already planned out. But I'm waiting to get some other dolls before I start on that project. And I'd likely have to make the clothing and stuff myself and I'm not very good at crafts like that, so I guess we'll have to see. But if everything allowed and I had the money, yeah, I would totally do that.

    33. None of my dolls are based on pre-existing characters though I have borrowed some names from the Deryni series. One of them, Alaric, even ended up looking quite like the character but he's a completely different persona. I really have never seen dolls that look like my favorite characters from books & my gang tend to dictate their personalities to me upon arrival.

    34. All my doll ideas tend to be original characters that are dear to my heart from role playing campaigns in the past. There is a sculpt that if I had thousands to spend on dolls, I would get two and dress them up like the Hitachiin twins from Ouran, but it would be low on my priority list.

    35. I was play a game, and I just totally love the character in that computer game. Now I am thinking to look for a doll that look alike him and ask if any customizers will do the face up....:sweat

So, I just want to know, do you ever want to buy a doll that is look alike to the character (from Animation, Comic, Game) and make him or her become that character?:) If you do, what you will (or were) do?

    36. Yes, I have one that is a character from a TV show. In my case, there happened to be a minimee group order for the actor that played the character so I got his head that way. The faceup I did myself, and I had fun looking for his outfit and some accessories (though I'm not quite done yet--there are still some things he needs).

    37. <.< honestly i try to stay away from character dolls as i tried doing this before and the doll just didn't stay with me for very long, BUT I have been thinking of getting a migidoll ryu simply becuase I was so stunned by the awesome look of the main character from the game Last Remnant who I swear jaw line, nose, eyes, and lips look flawlessly JUST LIKE a migidoll Ryu

    38. Same thing puremilktea, I want my first one to be based/inspired by a singer I love, in fact that is why I wanted a BJD in the first place. :D

    39. Well, all of my planned dolls are/will be character dolls... Omi and Aya from Weiss Kreuz, Gong-gil from The King and the Clown, probably also Lui and Camus from Meine Liebe... Oh damn, when I get Okita or Hikaru Genji some day, they are gonna be Okita and Genji haha On the other hand they will wear moder clothes so yeah...XD I am just not interested in creating OC, and I do want my dolls to have personalities, so I need to steal them!;)

    40. Yup i have one aswell XD Rather than find a doll that looked just like him i chose a doll i preffered.

    41. ho yes ;d
I'm currently researching tan skin dolls that wold look good as David Nassau from the game The Last Remnant.
      ;A; alas its a long planning/research process.

    42. I sorta did this.. Im basing my msd off a combo of Chii and Freya from chobits.

    43. I've fallen out of love with the series and the character. :sweat

So no character dolls for me.

    44. I really want to get 2 for my anime/Bleach OTP.
      Ichimaru Gin x Kira Izuru....
      That would be really nice...

    45. I might do this at some point. They're pretty far down my wishlist after my original characters, but it's a possibility. I haven't chosen any sculpts just for this purpose that I wouldn't have on my wishlist otherwise, though, so it's possible they'll develop original characters along the way instead.

I am seriously considering attempting to put together a Draco Malfoy outfit for Crow for next Halloween - I'd pretty much only need the cloak, wand, maybe a tie, and different hair, so there's always the possibility of original characters playing as non-original characters just for fun once in a while.

    46. I feel I would have a lot of trouble if I had a doll modeled after an anime/manga/TV/etc character. I would feel as if I wasn't free to do what I felt was right with him or her, and would feel almost like I was going against the doll's like, essence/spirit. XD I also would probably get annoyed if I couldn't find the perfect hair/eyes/clothes that the character I was trying to model them after had.

    47. I haven't got any, and neither have plans to get one.

    48. Umm, Yes, Danny is based of two of my fave Characters combined, Dnaiel and J.D from Chasing Yesterday. =3 I have plans to make a Bobobie Mei into Maud from A Drowned Maidens Hair. =3 And maybe a V from V for Vendetta. =3

    49. omgosh my first doll, I cannot make a character for her. It's really eating away at me too. She *was* the inspiration from my German crazed girl Emette but I found after fine tuning her character I found a better doll for the part. =3= and again no character.

    50. I have one, though he wasn't in my doll plans. I had gotten a head to learn how to do faceups on, and was making mock-ups in Photoshop when I noticed how much he looked like the character...and no matter how I painted the head after I noticed that, I still only saw 'him' in the doll's face...so now I have Toki.

My other dolls are my own characters, but I don't feel I need to come up with some sort of elaborate story on how Toki ended up here with them--while my dolls actually are the characters they represent, not cosplaying, their universes don't mesh (not sure how to explain this...but my characters have their own story, and that story, except for their relationships with each other, doesn't apply to their doll forms. I hope that makes sense!:sweat)

    51. Yes, that is one of reason I worry about. And I think I would feel really upset if I can not make him alike....it would be a rather difficult task....*_*
However, I really want that character...even if it is not in my plan. (gosh, I should not play that game!:doh)

    52. I don't see anything wrong with making a character based off of someone elses series or character.
A good Vampire Hunter D doll would be nice and I know my boy is making a John-117 Halo dollfie but for me... nah, I couldn't do it.

    53. I don't have my doll yet.. But I don't think I would make any of my dolls into like cosplay..
I think I would be the kind of person to make new OC's out of my dolls, or make my dolls into OC's. Fun! : D

    54. When some of the writers discuss how they got into BJDs, they often say they saw a mold or a particular doll done in a particular style that just spoke to them loudly of their own characters.
And often enough, once "endolled", the doll-characters take off in entirely new directions from the artwork or fiction that inspired them. That's an interesting process all on its own...

    55. Most of my dolls will be based on my own original characters. However, I do have plans for a doll based on Wall-E. X3 I have the sculpt picked out and I hope to mod him so there are cybernetic bits peeking out of "cracks" in his arms and legs. ;D And he shall be called... Doll-E. X3

    56. OMG. xD That'll be awesome. xD And then you can make another one like Eve. xD

    57. I plan for Tayven from Storm Constantine's Chronicles of Magravandias.

    58. When I first found out about bjds, I wanted them to be some of my favourite manga characters
But just last year I decided that if I was to spend my money on a doll, it should be based on one of the people that have been knocking inside my head for so long and not someone else's brainchild
Even so, I do think character dolls are cute
and I'm more than enthusiastic on making my dolls cosplay

    59. I was in a dilemma. I wanted to make the FCS F-38 into Rurouni Kenshin but I did not want to scar his face. I don't even want to consider painting a scar onto his face. I decided not to scar him and just use lips sticks to draw the scar. Moreover, I ordered a simple Volks faceup which to some extent resembles Kenshin. If I had been more daring, I would have ordered a blank mold and have someone paint him exactly like Kenshin. errr.....I cannot name the doll Himura Kenshin because he does not have across shaped scar on his face. I am naming him Christian and he cosplays Kenshin! I feel so very incompetent, I m not capable enough to own a R. Kenshin SD. I will regret if I scar that face.

    60. i got in to BJDs to make all MY characters into dolls...but i ordered a Leeke D Bebe to turn into L from Deathnote. i is huge fangirl :sweat
