1. Has anyone seen any dolls based on character's from Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books? (I know I'm a dork) I was thinking a Nathaniel Graison doll would be soooo awesome.

2. I don't really like character dolls. I mean, if someone else has one and loves it, go for it. I like that he can be all my own. I even fished around this site to make sure I didn't pick a popular name. I want something unique and one of a kind.

3. I have a RIDa which I think was based off NANA? o_o;; But i just liked her outfit ^^;

I'm not really into character dolls but I have a friend who wants to get a few xD

4. I personally don't own any character dolls, but I have seen a few fantastic ones that other people have created.

5. No, I think I wouldn't have one for the same reason I don't write fanfiction, they aren't my characters. To me, and I don't want to bash anyone your choice to do whatever, but it feels like stealing to me.

Plus, if you showed me a picture of any doll I could probably have a character name and bio for you in less than 30 minutes. XD I need to learn how to shut my imagination off.

6. That's who my Dollmore Dean is going to be eventually but I'm a having a royal b*tch of a time finding the correct wig for him. So much so I'm about ready to give up on him.

Morgan

7. I don't have any, don't plan to.. (: Maybe I'll do a cosplay sort of thing, but I don't want my girl to be limited to one specific character. ... (: I have all sorts of anime figures, that are cheaper to fill that void.

8. I never thought I'd add to this thread. XD

But yes, I own a character doll. I've found it really challenging to write a bio for him, since I have to keep him within the boundaries that Sir Barrie has set, and once I'm finished getting him the way I want, it'll be really interesting trying to take in-character poses of him. :)

But I like it that way. Because Peter Pan has been so stylistically changed throughout his literary life, I do have some liberties with his look. But definitely not with his personality, which I want to be as close to the play/novel as possible.

Peter Pan is a really important character to me - he embodies my greatest dream and has been a presence in my life since I was still in diapers.

9. I plan on eventually having "cosplay" outfits, wigs, etc for some of the Inuyasha characters (basically just Inuyasha & Kagome). I agree I wouldn't want them to be like that all the time. Just fun to dress them/pose them sometimes. I would absolutely love to see the Sesshemarou's and Maroku's already out there. (post pics please or if there are some already please direct me!).

P.S. loved the picture of Harry Potter!

10. When I finally decide on and get a doll, I'll probably make cosplay outfits for it. I doubt I'd firmly 'decide' to have that doll be that character.

My first doll will probably be a girl though, and I think I will have to create some sort of FF cosplay outfit for her.

11. I currently have a Naruto, a Bruce Wayne, and a Darren Shan. And I have plans for others. :)

12. A good 1/4 of my doll family are characters, Jareth, Dad, House, Joe, Peter, Winslow, Johnny en route. And I still have some old character dolls from my childhood.

Speaking from an action figure hoarding point of view I get what characters I do because it reminds me of the character and episodes and stories and the feelings attached to them. Although Jareth is technically my sister's we both love the movie and he is a warm reminder of all the fun we have together because of it. Same thing with Dad, Christopher Walken, the whole naming him Dad thing has to do with a friend and our Walken fun.

13. I've got Ohno Satoshi from Arashi and am planning the other 4 members eventually as well as James/Koujirou from Pokemon. There's probably a few other dolls that I'd like to make into characters too....we'll see...

14. I love to create my own characters so no. But its funny earlyer today I was looking at a final fantasy Yuna cosplay outfit for one of my dolls but if I did get it that would be my character cosplaying as yuna rather then being yuna if that makes sense lolz

15. I have two literary character dolls and one in the works. I just liked the idea that I could have them as mini versions of their written selves really :)

Dorian Gray (He resembles the film version more than the book obviously):

Orlando (more book than film on this one)

And I'm working on a Casanova doll :)

16. Aya is literally Aya Fujimiya from Weiss Kreuz, since I've been obsessed with him for as long as I can remember.

17. I've got this really odd urge to doll Jonathan Teatime from Discworld... but that would mean scaring my mother, as she's a fan too. And making Assassin!Neville Longbottom, to keep him company.

And I guess Guy's just the generic wide-eyed-innocent-thrust-in-the-middle-of-a-war-zone. Standard tropes don't count as characters, of course, but he's even going to have a photo of his mom in his pocket and everything.

EDIT: ...
Dorian Gray.
:: melt ::

So I had some... odd childhood crushes. Originating from about the time I realised that Wilde himself was a.), dead, and b.), had been married. Possible orientations? Horrible, horrible diseases? Never. It's just not fair to crush on a *married* dead guy.

18. Whoa! ^^ That's a great way to look at it. I thought the same thing..... just didn't know how to get it all down in a post. But you've got it coveed.)

To answer the first post; Yes, I have exactly one character doll. ^^ Her name is Yukari Hayasaka of Paradise Kiss fame - the one anime character BESIDES Spike Speigel that I think that I'll love forever and ever. XD

Here's her picture

I've since given her a darker faceup that I believe suits her character more closely. ^^ She's a little sweeter than Parakiss's Yukari, but she's Yukari all the same, to me, if that makes ANY sense. @_@

19. Ooh. She's gorgeous, Serenia. And I love the furry coat.

I remember only now that a character doll of Andrea Cavalcanti from Gankutsuou is one of my future doll aspirations. It'd have to be on a 1/3 scale doll, though, I'd feel uncomfortable carrying around a pint-sized little psycho like him in a baby-carrier.

20. Thank you so much! ^^ It's actually not a coat--it's a furry blanket that I used to take her picture with since the only clothes that really suited her at first were underwear-type items. XD

Heh, Gankutsuou is a really great anime! You'd have to send me pics of him if you ever put together his doll! ^^

21. Aww, dang. It looks like a pimpin' fur coat... which reminds me, if they sell those for BJD I kind of want one. My boy's probably going to be cooling his heels in the default AOD underpants for a while, I'll be finding him exotic togas and such.

I've always thought Andrea-slash-Benedetto would make a smashing character doll- he's vice-ridden AND gorgeous, plus you'd get to set his wig in one big curl. And if there's ever a doll of the Count out there, well, he can follow him around like a sinister lapdog. But that's another thing both me and my mother have watched together, so I won't be able to set him up in any photostories without getting weird looks.
Andrea and Peppo all the way, yes?

22. Yes, and she is on the way. :)

Arlene is going to double as Larxene from KH:CoM... although I will be making Arlene be Larx's somebody, so I'm using the same doll, but they're different characters. :3 [Larxene doesn't belong to me, but Arlene[the character as well as the doll] does, just not the inspiration]

23. I love character dolls and I think they can be just as creative as original dolls. Just look at the many character dolls around, there are multiple Cloud, Harry Potter and Naruto dolls but they're all different because of the owner's interpretation of the character. My love for character dolls started with a love of Kingdom Hearts Organization XIII. Are there many O13 character dolls? Yes. Do I care? No. Because my Axel will be different from someone else's Axel because I view him differently and because I might highlight other pieces of his personality than others. I choose a mold that-to me-evokes the feeling of the character, more than physical features. I chose Dive Seimei for my Saix, so when choosing I kept a few characteristics of him in mind, like his long, thin face and his eyes..but it was the stoic, 'not impressed' look I got from Seimei that made him perfect for Saix in my opinion. I give him a clothing style that-in my opinion-fits him, but that's still my decision because we don't see him wearing anything other than his Organization outfit in the game. I write about him, highlighting the parts of his personality I like best and that made me intrested in him. It might be different from someone else, that's why he's my doll and my Saix. He's not even finished yet-still needs his blue wig, scar and elven ears and he's already Saix to me because he fits my image of the character. In that light, I think character dolls are partly your creation too, except you start from a different point than you do with original dolls. Some things are already filled out, others you decide yourself.

I'm having a lot of fun with recreating these characters in dolls, I originally intended to only have my three favorites(Xemnas, Saix and Xigbar), but I'm definetly getting them all now ^_^ I also have one doll who is named after a manga character(Sumiya's named after the main character from Hoshi no Yakata), and they share a few personality traits but I still view him as my character. Vasiley is my only completely original character, but I love all my boys equally and I find I'm creativly involved with all of them, just in a different way.

24. Awesome on having a Saix and Xemnas! Good luck getting Xigbar. :D

25. Yes and no. I kind of really want a Luciola doll (from Last exile) but then, my doll will end up being a cosplayer anyways -because there are way too many cool outfits in anime and manga and I feel a deepseated urge to OMG MAKE THEM ALL- , so I figure maybe he'll just cosplay Luciola instead :3 We'll see~.

26. I have an character doll by 'accident'.

Sir Andrew Rosen is an orginal character by myself. He was in an rpg I was playing with Hellsing365. At the time I introduced him, he was a minor character who I didn't expect to last, so instead of making up his own appearence I stole a picture of Squall for the ease of it. Sure enough, he ended up becoming one of my favourite characters and thus into my first doll. So, his faceup/colouring looks like Squall, though I still think of him very much as my Andy.

I do want to get him a Squall outfit sometime in the future though.

Here's some pictures of his face-up, though he is in a rather funny christmas outfit my friend made for him.

27. Mine's based off of teh vocalist Kyo from JRock band Dir en grey. xD;

28. Thanks! :D Congratulations on your Larxene too, I love her character, can't wait to see what you do with her ^__^

29. Someday (if I ever get the money to do so) I have serious plans to make a classic SH2 Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2) I would LOVE to have him, and I already know someone who is willing to make him, it is just the matter of getting the $1,000 USD or more to pay to have him created.

So expensive....but saddly, I don't know if I will ever get the chance to have this done, seeing that I just don't have the budget at the moment, and even if I did, I would be going towards my DZ Yuu first, and then that...

30. First and foremost, I'd love two dolls based on my OC and her boyfriend (an InuYasha wannabe >.>), but as that's not up for discussion here...
I've love an actual InuYasha doll and a Sesshoumaru doll, as well as a Kotoko from Chobits or a Shinku/Suigintoh[sp?] from Rozen Maiden. Even though those three are not characters I particularly are all fangirly over, it's just the idea of having them as dolls. n___n
I wonder what a Chi (Chobits) BJD looks like...
I would also love a Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin) doll... <3

31. For about three hours I was seriously considering taking an Iplehouse Cocori and making her into Fran from FFXII. I really love Fran and I think Cocori is a beautiful doll, but not something I could readily/easily bond with unless I did something special to her. I'm still really considering it, but that'll be way into the future.

32. I just ordered a Dollzone Linlan with a faceup to look like Urd from Ah! My Goddess. Finally :)

33. Ooh! Fran. I wish there was more Fran stuff out there. She's so cool

34. i have many plans for my doll to cosplay- but even then it will just be my n in a special outfit !

35. While i do like seeing character dolls just out of interest, I would stick to original characters since they are your very own and are the creation of no one else. ^^

36. Kaozuel is an individual character, but based on other characters, if that counts :sweat

I love the silver haired remnants from FF Advent Children.... but I wanted my doll to have it's own story.... so whilst he is a remnant, he is not one of the film characters....

Did that make ANY sense??? *_*

37. I don't own one yet, but the one I want [hopefully a DIM minimee] will be based off someone - yay permanent cosplay! :)

38. Currently I don't own any character dolls. However, I'm planning to make an Organization XIII cosplay for my boy for a convention I'm going to in August since we're missing Vexen (and that just really won't do). At some point I'd also like to have some based on the dolls in CLAMP's Angelic Layer; at the very least, I'd like to have a Hikaru and a Wizard. That probably won't be for a few years, though.

39. I prefer to have my own original character dolls. I mean it has more depth to me. I think its cute that people have character dolls, but that my style.

Besides even if I did, the doll personality probably wouldn't fit with the character. Just to kinda smite me.

40. Mariust, OMG Urd. Cool... I have figures (gashpon and yellow sub) always wanted to do a bjd but then... I need K-1, Urd, Bell, Skuld, then there's peorth... etc.
Sounds like this could get expensive.
I still want K1 from OMG, not sure how to go about it. I also am hoping to get a bjd to create Hitsugaya Toushiro from Bleach. Just haven't found a triangular face with such huge eyes.
Is it just me or are most faces without expression. Toushiro wouldn't be Toushiro without an aggravated face.

41. Gah.. I feel that people that have character dolls just have the dolls LOOK like the characters but they are nothing like the characters themselves. Like when someone says this is my _____ doll. I just don't think anything of it. Its just a doll that looks like that character.=| The only person who could possibly get that characters personality right is probably the Creator themself. :sweat
edit: this wasn't intended to be taken in a bad way. :sweat.

42. My current doll, and one of the ones I'm waiting for are character dolls. I think it's about on the same level as writing fan fiction, or drawing fan art. Of course you're not the creator, but that's never stopped anyone from wanting to play with the characters on any other medium. Why would dolls be different? ^^

43. Hey, just wanted to drop a note here -- I noticed a bunch of people mentioning characters from the Sandman, and I'm doing a Minimee order of Death if anyone's interested.

There's an event price going on right now, so if we get just one more person (ie, 8 total orders) that'd be as cheap as they usually are for 10 - 10 orders would be $96.

Sorry to the mods if this is spam-like!! I thought it might be valuable information for some people who were interested in Death. :)

44. I know this is an old post but yes, I am also looking for a 60cm Samurai X Rurouni Kenshin doll in his Japanese costume with his cross shaped scar properly marked on his face and with his sword but of course, I can't find him. If not because of the original 27cm Rurouni Kenshin doll from Volks, I won't be in this forum today looking at BJDs. I was trying to find out more about the 27cm Kenshin doll's manufacturer when I saw the 60cm Okita Shouji. Sigh, I did not know how difficult or expensive it is to buy a doll like Okita at that time but he isn't the Samurai I hoped to see. :|

I don't yet have a doll, for 6 months, I've been looking for my first doll and getting impatient. :x I am now resigned to the fact that my first SD will have nothing to do with anime. I am even prepared to go for a girl instead of a boy doll. :( Trying to buy my first BJD is scary because of the price. I feel that I don't know enough of BJDs to own one.

About character dolls: I pre-ordered the 27cm doll figure Zero R2 Code Geass from Medicom (My avatar). I am getting worried because the release date keeps getting pushed back. I want to keep Zero, original from Medicom even if he is only 27cm.

45. Yeah, that made sense (atleast if I interperted you rightly, heh) - and that's what I'd plan to do as well if I made a character doll: having a character doll who is a really minor character or is my own character but takes place in an already existing world of someone's story/ect.

It allows more room for me to develop their own story/personality/ect but is sitll connected to a story/ect I love and at the same time, it isn't just a plain blank slate that I'm unsure of what to do, and what will work.

I'm still undecisive of how my first BJD will be (orginal or minor character), though.

46. Nope, I haven't and I have no desire to.
I like to put a little "me" in my dolls. I prefer (for my dollfamily) to have original characters. Because then, there is no limit.
If I'd have a.. say Jack Sparrow.. I couldn't dress him in a PVC skirt. That would be odd and not Jack Sparrow-ish. But with my made-up character Ivan, I can. ;)

47. I'd like to have one based off of Reno from FF, one of Tamaki from Ouran, and a couple of the twins from Ouran. And maybe a Haruhi, Hunni, Mori, and Kyoya from Ouran... Eventually that is...( I know, I dream big!)

48. I would like two BJD's of Sunako from Wallflower -- one in her super-deformed state, and one in her full-sized state. Of course, there are three uber-bishies in the story, but everything has its limits ... especially my wallet!

49. Never :<

I think that even though it shows how much a person likes that character, it is not originaly theirs and I think it is weird to to have the character of someone else as a doll......

It is like if someone make a doll of my character... Just so weird and not right XP

It is not original enough XP

The closest I would be to that... is making my chara cosplay other ones XD

50. i have a baby kisame from naruto at the moment and sculpting a gir from invader zim. and a baby kyuubi from naruto :)

i have plans for
ace luffy and franky as babies too, in puki size. all from one peice
an sd nico robin also

big kisame from naruto
toddler gaara and toddler naruto from naruto

51. I'm getting my first doll, Andrea from Angell-Studio and plan on making him into Fai D. Flourite from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. It will be a few months, but I'll definately post photos once he's done.

52. I have a few beloved character dolls planned, and one girl and boy cosplay doll planned. (the 10th Doctor, is first on that list)
I know that my roommate is only interested in the Puki's, (bigger dolls terrify her apparantly) and wants one as Ed and Roy from FMA.

53. I prefer creating original characters for my dolls personalities (outside of BJD) just because they sort of... slot into their realm a lot better than a premade character ever could....

54. My Atsu is not a character doll, though his name is similar with Buck-Tick's Atsushi Sakurai. And I don't plan to buy any character doll... I think that they arrive with they're own characters and don't need to be compared or made into someone's creation.

55. i'm going to make a Lord Folken doll. he was my most favourite character from Escaflowne, one my most favourite animes. i might end up making a Dilandau to go with him if he gets lonely

56. My friend wants one but I like giving my BJDs their own story. It makes them more like they're mine and not something else...

57. OHMIGOD, I WANNA SEE PICS.

My boy happens to be based off Duo Maxwell of Gundam Wing!~ I'm currently saving for Tieria, a character from Gundam 00.

I really don't love any of my original characters enough to buy dolls for them...But Duo is a character that is really very sentimental and dear to me. He was well worth it~

58. I like my dolls to be their own person with their own personality. Also it means that they're mine and only mine, where as a doll based off another character isn't really yours. I will make them cosplay every now and again.

59. I don't currently. But I confess that I have always wanted to base a doll on Vanyel from the Last Herald Mage series by Mercedes Lackey.... Van is just such an intriguing character. I think he'd make a great doll!
