    1. I'd love a Sephiroth...it would be interesting to have him as a character away from ShinRa. (I actually got the idea from a really good, deep fanfic...) But he'd be so far down the road he'd probably never see the light of day. (I do have several 1/6 character dolls. I feel less silly for spending $30 to make one instead of $500...)

    2. oo i'd love to see your girls :D

i have a dollfie dream 1 Chii and at christmas im getting a hound who will be Hideki :)

i also have the ghost in the shell gynoid doll called motoko :)

    3. See the signature ^^

    4. I would absolutely LOVE to buy a Hound and turn him into the Goblin King, Jareth, who is from the movie Labyrinth, which is my all-time favorite movie. I saw, actually, that someone on the board already does have a Jareth, which is awesome. Maybe I should make a Sarah, if I can find a doll that looks like Jennifer Connelly. And she would HAVE to have the dream gown from the crystal ballroom. It's an absolute must. :)

If I can find the right colored eyes and wig, and the money to buy elaborate Chinese emperor robes (preferrably in red), Lore is SO going to cosplay my favorite anime character Hotohori, from my favorite anime Fushigi Yuugi. Although, Lore's personality is more like Miroku's than Hotohori's, now that I think about it. lol

I was also considering turning a tan Dark Elf Soo into Leetah, from Wendy Pini's ElfQuest series (I adore it muchly!). I'd also love to find a male elf, or to put a BW DES head on a male body, and turn it into Cutter, Leetah's lifemate. I don't think it would be possible to make a Leetah, though, since her hands would have to be modded to have only four fingers each, and modding like that can't be done on tan-skinned dolls, as I understand it. :(

    5. I found this thread and had to post, because I'm always flaunting my boys and their basis on the characters of the CW TV show, "Supernatural". Lynx and Wren are based on Dean and Sam Winchester, and I'm planning many more to match the cast, LOL :)

The trick is that they're based on a form of fanfic/fanart in a way--because I love and write fanfic and I make lots of fanart, and in my mind, they fit both bills in a unique way--but there is original character in the mix, and especially since they have their own subtle personalities developing all their own because they're my babies :)

    6. Well Vince won't dress as anything else but Harry:

    7. All original characters here, though I've done commissions to recreate characters from popular media.

      Sera~

    8. I would LOVE to have a Zuko(Avatar: the Last Airbender) BJD. I like that series and I love his character.

    9. I just saw Ichi the Killer and it would be pretty cool to have Kakihara doll. He'd be way too complicated, though, so I wouldn't bother. Besides, I prefer having characters where I have complete creative control and didn't have to worry about staying true to the original. Same reasons I don't write fanfiction or RP with existing characters. It's much more fun for me to make my own.

    10. To say again, I'm going to have a doll of Fran from FFXII.
She will be heavily modded by armeleia, and I'm in the process of getting her now ^^

    11. I have no desire to ever own a doll based off someone elses characters.

    12. don't own any, and i don't want to make any permanent character dolls. But i'm serious about making an Uncle Iroh head (from avatar: last airbender), and making a fatsuit for one of my dolls XD (it will most likely be "dude" the msd sized doll i'm making now). I'm making plans to mod a CP MNF Lishe into Medusa (greek mythology).

    13. Recently, I've noticed a few folks making their dollfies into pre-established canon characters; ie: characters that already exist in movies, books, comics, TV, manga, etc.

I can understand why folks would do it, but I just never could bring myself around to doing it myself, as it never has had any appeal to me for one reason--they're already someone else's character.

So what I'd like to hear opinions on is just that-- what's the appeal of your own characters vs canon ones? Even MY dolls are a variation of sorts in regards to pre-established folks. My Brody is based on a role play character I came up with years ago. His personality's already set, but he's mine. Pasha, my Lishe, developed as I was waiting for her to arrive, and Sovay is STILL becoming who she is... but again, they're all mine.

      SO, what are your thoughts?

    14. No, and I don't plan to, but really...

I have a trillion cosplay outfit plans. I'm going to make a whole bunch of cosplay outfits and force Lucas to wear them (when I get him). xD One for Balthier, one for Axel, one for Captain Jack Sparrow... *rattles on*

That'll tide over both my fandom and my wallet. *_*

    15. At some point I would love to have dolls based on Morphius and a Death from Neil Gaimans Endless. I am such a huge fan of The Sandman, that over the years I have spent $$$$ on original art from the books, and have all of the figures, ect, ect, ect. So having my very own versions of M & D is my idea of heaven.

And yes, I am a sad obsesive, and my art collection has been known to scare grown men!:o

On the other hand, Remy is totally his own carracter, as will Mo Lan (her name will be picked when she arrives) be.

    16. Hmmm...it would be nice to have a character doll, but I have no intention to make a character doll, coz I have waaaay too many OCs. xD; I prefer to use my own OCs, and not someone else's characters. If you think about it, I find it somewhat copying or stealing. Yeah...I'll sort of feel uncomfortable if I have character dolls, since it's not your own. The closest I'll ever get to having a character doll is cosplay.

    17. I would like to get one of the larger males that are available and turn him into Acheron from the Dark-Hunter series (got quite a bit of a discription to work with) and maybe Simi from the same series. It just be something neat to do. There are a number of characters I could do from romance novels I read, but right now it's just too expensive for me to do.

    18. I have a doll that shares attributes with a character I like, enough so that I can force him to cosplay around Halloween. I'm not sure I'd trust myself to invest that much money in a character that isn't mine, though. What if I fell out of the fandom? *_*

    19. There are certain characters I think would be fun to dress my doll up as (Shirou Kamui or Sumeragi Subaru leap to mind) but I don't think I could buy a doll specifically for either of them. ^^;;; Partly because I've had people kill me off fandoms and I would kick myself if I bought a doll for either of those and that happened and mostly...

My original characters are all lining up to get their own shell. ^^; I think /they/ would murder /me/ if I bumped a pre-made fan character up before them.

    20. I don't think I could have a character doll, because I get bored with various fandoms very quickly. I usual obsess over one anime for a month or two and then I go onto something else. So if I did make a character doll, I'd probably get bored of it quickly and not play with it. The only exception to the rule is Weiss Kruze, but I have no real plans to make Weiss dolls. Maybe a cosplay.....

    21. Most people will say that you are being more creative and original with your own characters, which is something I don't really believe. Nothing in fiction is ever truly original. *shrugs*

For me personally, it's much more challenging and interesting for me to try and understand someone else's characters and to write and draw them convincingly. My own characters? I already know everything there is to know about them. There's no mystery and I have complete control over their actions. I'm forced to work with fewer pieces of the puzzle and to create my own ideas about the motivations behind actions, to see if I can write dialogue that matches the original's tone, etc etc when I do fanworks. A lot more guesswork and debate, and that's the sort of thing I like.

My only doll with a character of my own creation is my May boy, Natsume, and he's not something I ever feel the need to write about and photographing him is pretty simple. I put a lot more thought and effort into my character dolls.

    22. I think I'm one of the worst, when it comes to 'character' dolls. I don't really write fanfiction, as I prefer to write in my own original worlds. But I like having my character dolls. Mine are all Harry Potter based (obviouslly). But the thing is they are my own version/interpretation of the characters. I don't play with them or see them as JK's characters, and I don't make them stick to canon either.

Some people have their dolls 'cosplay' as various characters. Mine also 'cosplay' as various 'styles' of dolls/outfits. My Hermione is 'Hermione', but she's also my Sweet Lolita outfit wearing girl. Lucius is my 'victorian' clothing doll. Narcissa is a total barbie doll (she wants far to many clothes and they have to be cute and pink). Snape is the only one who refuses to wear anything but his 'canon' outfit, but then he's taken on the character of Snape so completely it's scary. Sure he's a softer younger emo version of Snape, but see in my version of the HP world it works.

I think about the 'characters' I have in my own worlds, and just can't bring myself to create them into dolls. They are not meant to be created/played with in that manner, atleast for me.

    23. Of course. Both my boys are anime characters. And I love them to bits. <3

    24. Three of mine are named based on characters I really like from favorite shows. One is named based off of a favored song. The three based on shows really bear no resemblance to those characters personality-wise or in the way they dress. My girl named after a song is very much like the personality of the girl in the song.

    25. Heh... well I guess the guy with the red hair, red kimono, gray hakama and cross-shaped scar qualifies as a character doll :) And so does the purple haired chimera (currently in round 2 of re-vamping).

While I absolutely understand why it would not be something most people would get into, Kenshin Himura and Zelgadis Graywords are two pre-existing characters whose representations in both manga and anime moved me in ways I can't even begin to describe. When I found molds that fit these men perfectly, there was just no question that they would be character dolls.

I probably would never have gotten an SD-sized doll if not for the Red looking exactly like my poster of Kenshin. Of course, having gotten one of the big boys, and then two, it was completely over. Most of my dolls are just -- themselves. A couple of them are loosely based on other anime characters (like Mello) but I'm not married to that.

Whatever floats your boat, you know? :)

    26. Not yet owning a doll but someday, I am planning to purchase a versatile BJD mold and transform him to any anime/manga based character I want. :)

    27. I love cosplaying my dolls, but I don't really make my dolls the actual character because I want to keep them versatile. But they often remind me of specific characters too.

    28. i take inspiration from characters who exist, or their names may have referance...but never truly are they an existing character.

i think it can look cool if people do this but i would rather be a little more original. i wouldnt mind cosplaying them though!

    29. The doll I have and the doll I plan to get are both based on characters from a story I'm writing. :3 I find it fun to have them in a tangible form that I can experiment with. It's oddly inspiring and gives them more personality than they would have usually.

But most of all those two characters are very dear to me so it's lovely to have them in a huggable, permanent form outside my imagination and the paper they live on.

    30. I don't know if this counts but I know I bought the Scarface Cecile because I loved his story :aheartbea It's hard sometimes making him into my Absinthe, because he wants to stay Cecile so much XD But I'm getting used to the idea and so is he ;p I still like him as Cecile though, especially since khiro is getting a Reisner from Volks soon and they'll be re-united brothers~ xD

    31. It's a hard choice for me.. Because I'm one of those people who have an alarming amount of characters running around in their head.

But I'm semi-planning on one day owning a Luts Soony and making her into Rainie Yang's Character (Qi Yue) from, "Devil Beside You".

But it all depends on the future. ^^

    32. I have a senior delf abandon that's loosely based on Voldemort from the harry potter universe. But he most definitely has been adjusted to fit in style wise with the rest of my ABJD and streamlined to my storyline.

    33. I just wanted to say that I think this was written so wonderfully and the concept so interesting...that I wanted to comment xD This actually really did make me think, and while I'm pretty sure I personally would never be interested in character dolls, this idea sounds just a little bit...different. I'm almost positive I have my doll family already all planned to end at 4 ( 5 at the most given the circumstances of one character's story ) but using this idea makes for some very interesting fantasy plans for four boys that would be tecnnically called 'character dolls' but in the end, not really at all x3

    34. Vin was based off Vincent from Final Fantasy 7... but... he kind of developed into a completely different thing when he got here.

Not to say I won't get a Vincent cosplay done for him some day >3

    35. I can't see myself ever making a character doll, just because I'm pretty flighty and I'm afraid at some later point, I would lose interest in the original character and therefore the doll meant to represent them. Besides, I enjoy the surprise of what personality my dolls end up having after being completed.

...Having said that, part of me would love to make dolls based upon Xelloss and Zelgadiss from Slayers. :sweat They're two of my absolute favorite characters, and have endured through the years.

    36. I do plan to have dolls of Kunzite, Zoisite and Tseng of the turks, but other than them, no one else really. I like the idea of having some of my favorite characters living in my house with me but, I would be limited on creativity if that's all I did. I'm all for character dolls, but I'm also all for individual creativity:) .

    37. I have a doll who's loosely based on the character Fiona in "The Secret of Roan Inish", my soulkid Tiffee.
It's been hard to find vintagey-looking clothes for her though, so yeah. Loosely based ^_~

Oh oops I kinda have two more, now that I think of it...

My Lati Laches is a Soot Sprite from Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and my human Kkotmu always reminds me of Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking. She's not lighthearted like Pippi, but she sure looks like her!!! XD

      Raven

    38. My IH Soo Ri is an older Shindou Shuichi from Gravitation.
My DM Model Doll Haneol Moon is an older Yuki Eiri from Gravitation.

My DM Elf Elly Lime is a conjured tiny otherworld yokai Shuichi from Gravitation.
My DM Elf Elly Banji is a conjured tiny otherworld yokai Eiri from Gravitation.

My CP Luts Minifee Shiwoo Elf is Shindo, an alternate universe elf based on Shuichi from Gravitation.
The DOD DOC Hoo planned for the end of the year will be Yuki, an an alternate universe elf hunter based on Eiri from Gravitation.

I had to have the two main Gravi characters in the three main sizes, partly because the large Eiri took so long to find the perfect sculpt for him. I was getting so frustrated, I looked for alternative sizes to fit the character and decided to get the characters in three different sizes with slightly different personalities and universes.

Yes, I write and draw in the universe, and now I photograph the universe, too.

    39. haha i wasnt going to answer this, but i brainfarted on my recently ordered laches. she's going to be Risky (omishi magical theater) and, sometime next year hopefully, i'll order pury so i can have Safety as well! :D

    40. my one and only pre-existing character doll :)

Her name is Dawn. (I'm obviously still working on her costume)

    41. i plan to have a doll of Ditto from The Supernaturlist and have a doll who existed as cosplay chareters only (he is about two right now! he is also a orginal charecter, with another first name :)) clothes dont bother me, 'cause he(as in both does not own much else in the besides the stuff they cosplay in. one charcter is based of two charecters with very simaler personalitys,i just cobined the names :sweat

    42. :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

      sooooo cute!

My Dennis is very much based on a living person and I have a Narae coming in who is heavily based on Lady Heather from CSI.

And while George is named after a character from the Sweeney, he isn't that person at all.

    43. My lovely and talented DIL is helping in creating the most of the Tenchi gang as well as twins for Tenchi & Ryoko as I have my own story ideas for them. It will take awhile and we are using the 27cm and 22cm Volks dolls to do it.

    44. My Leroi is named after a vampire named Requiem from the Anita Blake books, but he's a Spider Spirit. (A trickster) My Shiwoo vamp has about the personality of Cpt. Jack from Doctor Who/Torchwood, my Azurite has a similar personality to Juria(sp?) from Naruto, and my Il has a similar personality to Ranmaru from Kizuna.

None of them are those characters, but the personalites are similar.

    45. One of my dolls is going to be based on Mitsukuni Haninozuka (Hunny) from Ouran High School Host Club when he arrives.. not exactly, but very closely based!

I'm also planning getting a doll based on Haruhi Suzumiya from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu because I love the character.. I've yet to find a good doll for her, but if I do find one suitable, I'm likely to be splashing out on her methinks ^_^

    46. I often 'toyed' with the idea of having all the characters from the 'Roswell High' series.....i think the characters suit the possibilities of getting bjds that look like them quite easily. It was a while ago now so i doubt i will ever get around to doing it.........i liked the series though

    47. All my current doll plans are original chars, but someday if I have the money I'll make one of those blue Bambicronys into a teeny tiny Edmond Dantes! :whee: Maybe Shadow from American Gods would make a nice Hound, too... *Ponders*

    48. I have serious plans for my next boy to be based on Murtaugh from the Inheritance Trilogy (aka Eragon). That is all I can invision him as and I don't think it limits his paramiters at all. As for the next girl I want I think I am loosely basing her off of Nymphadora Tonks from Harry Potter. Although I love Tonks as a character and all some of her characteristics don't appeal to me so therefore I am going to base a doll character after her but tweek it a bit.:)

    49. I'm not sure if this qualifies, but, when I was getting my first doll over a half-decade ago, a Too, the pics DOD had on their website bore an uncanny resemblance to one of my favorite Shin Megami Tensei video-game characters.

...so I named him 'Setsuna Kai', after the character. And I also made him a cute little cosplay outfit that he's worn once or twice.

    50. Well, not yet..
but I plan on making a doll of Agitha (Twilight Princess) and a doll of Dominic (Eureka Seven). I'd never originally ever wanted ot do this, but.. xD

    51. My Chi is well Chi! Her new head just arrived and I'm planning on new eyes, wig, 'ears' and faceup!

    52. I find the whole pre-existing doll characters thing a little difficult. I've tried in the past to buy dolls which resemble the characters I want, but it just doesn't seem to work out. I got a Vamp DES head from Luts to be Nevan from Devil May Cry 3, but in the end I sold her - I just didn't like the mold enough.

I've recently been looking for a mold to be Kenny from South Park (it's a real challenge!) but I'm going to give up. Unless I want the mold for other good reasons - not only because it's 'right' for a character - I lose interest in them. It's too expensive a mistake to keep making

That said, I had a doll head arrive today who I originally bought to be Kyo from Dir en grey (he's a DIM Lloyd), and I LOVE him. I think he'll be his own personality, but Kyo cosplay still isn't entirely out of the question.

    53. I don't have any plans at the moment to make dolls that are anything but origional characters. I don't know what characters I would do if I did want any. I'd rather focus on something origional.
Though my characters are based loosely on various other characters. It's just that there are so many different characters in each one that it's hard to say that character X is based on Y.

    54. I'm planning on doing Sephiroth as a DZ Ying and Sesshoumaru, tho I'm looking for the right head mold.
Most of my Chara dolls are 1/6.

    55. i'm planning for my first doll to be Haku from Naruto ^^ at first i was just going to buy a regular doll and form his personality as i went but then i became, for lack of a better word, obsessed with how adorable haku is/was so i figured "heck, why not make him into doll form?" so there we go!

    56. er no? the closest is all my dolls' names have something to do with Yuki Kaori's characters from Angel Sanctuary and Godchild? i.e. Cain, Raphael, Lucifiel, Asmodeus...

But they developed to their own personalities. I don't desire to make a doll of a pre made character.

My brother wants Leroy to be Roy from Fire Emblem but it's more based on roy rather than being roy...

i dunno not a fan to make stuff of what i like. (tho i wouldn't mind a yuichi and wataru set ^^)

    57. :) The doll l'm wating for is going to be mini moon from salior moon. She will have pink eyes, hair and her face up l'm working on that one.

    58. Once I get Unidoll Ark I will make him into one of the Warcraft characters, Arthas Menethil and Kealthas Sunstrider. So I voted no, but I just realisted I already own a premade character, Censya Piloneer from Latidoll. She is based on the novelle of Latidoll. http://www.lati-novella.com/ (but ugly translated >.<)

    59. Someone asked me a question, and it just reminded me of this thread. They asked me, which doll do you think makes the best Harry Potter BJD?

My response was... Well which verison of the character are you wanting to do? Movie Version, Book Version, or your own Version? How old do you want the character to be? First, Second,...Seventh Book or beyond? Then there is always how will the 'character' fit in with your other dolls/family. Beyond that you can have the 'character' in a variety of moods even. From Happy Harry to, bloody and messed up Harry, to what ever...

So while a doll may be a 'character' doll, there is so much more to them then just the character.

      -Anneke

    60. Well the only one i ever really thought of doing is Vincent from Final Fantasy VII....but i need to get my first doll first and then i might think about it. :)
