Character Dolls (based on fictional or other preexisting characters)

I have Lavinia Whateley's ghost (from HP Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror" ) and I'm looking for the right small doll to be Lovecraft himself. I'm also planning on shelling River Song, Rose Tyler and hopefully a couple of the Doctors as tinies.

 

I have a minifee who is currently cosplaying Junko Enoshima from Dangan Ronpa, I still need to make her pony tail bears and switch her bootlaces to red but after that she'll be perfect! Junko is one of my favorite characters to cosplay and I felt like, well *I* can't always cosplay Junko but she can!
I've thought about making a Hirako Shinji dolls from Bleach, yes I read it till the end, and have recently been pondering how hard it would be to make a Zentai suit to make one of my boys cosplay Deadpool lol.
I think it's different tho because Junko was bought TO cosplay she itmdoesnt feel like I'm making her cosplay as someone else, she's just the cosplayer of the group!

 

Who has a BJD inspired by or modeled after a character from film, TV, or literature? Who and why?

 

I do! Two of my guys are based on two of my favorite anime characters, Keba from Wolf's Rain and Hei from Darker Than Black. Keba is a white wolf who can make himself look like a human teenager/young adult. He has hope and a drive to find a fabled paradise. Hei is a "Contractor", a person with a special power who has to pay a price every time they use their power and feel less emotions then normal humans. Except Hei pays no price for his power, and is just as emotional as a human. He's also got the fan nickname "Chinese Electric Batman". Of course, in doll form living in the same world, they're a bit different. I love the characters so they're the basis for the characters of two of my dolls. Apologies for the anime nerd babble, but that's the best way to explain it.

i connect to him a lot and i feel like he's very much like my childhood self so i decided to name a character after him:



there are a lot of differences, certainly, but the inspiration was definitely there when i came up with his character.

 

Ummm...kinda. Yeah. I don't have any dolls who are replicas of other characters, or who are meant to portray specific characters or actors, but some do share traits.

Michael is loosely inspired by Macaulay Culkin, and so his full name is Michael Kevin Sennett---from Macaulay's characters Kevin from Home Alone and Thomas J Sennett from My Girl. He also loves Christmas candy, because Home Alone is a Christmas movie.

Luc shares some traits with Dale from "Come Back to Me", Tommy Gnosis from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", Matt from "The Dirties" and Kevin from "We Need to Talk About Kevin", but he's not meant to really BE any of them specifically.

I'm also often told that Erica looks like Mia Wallace, but that was totally coincidental. XD

I have a few! My Marshall was inspired by Marshall Lee the Vampire King from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time's gender-bent episodes. Darius, the doll in my profile picture, was inspired by Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. His character is more of my own version if he were more human-like. I also have a Sebastian Michaelis character doll from IoS which is meant to be an exact replica of him in doll form. I really adore certain characters and it bleeds into my own character development and stories.

 

This is a topic that comes up a lot on this forum -- here's a particularly lengthy thread on the subject.

To answer, though -- I have three character dolls. Kiyo is Sengoku Kiyosumi, from Prince of Tennis; Cecil is Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV; and Dave is Dave Strider from Homestuck. To me half the allure of these dolls is the prospect of giant totally customizable action figures of my favorite characters. I don't much care what anyone else thinks about the whole concept, and I know there are a lot of people that think character dolls are somehow less creative or less involved or just less, period. This is what I do with my dolls. I enjoy it. I don't need any other why or why not.

 

My Peakswoods Dandy Bella "Selmy" I named after Selmy Barristan.

Selmy Barristan is one of the coolest characters in the Game of Thrones series and I like him a lot, but he is not my most favorite (I think it might have to be Tyrion, or Arya or Ned). I really like the name Selmy. Its my favorite name in the book

I have a Kael'thas Sunstrider (Unoa Elder Xyle) and Lor'themar Theron (Littlefee Vampire Elf Rolly) from World of Warcraft, but they are just faceplates. A long journey lies before them.

I did have a Trade Prince Gallywix (Resinsoul Pixu) at one point, but never got far with him. I also had 5StarDoll's 'Baby Hellboy' Aiden, affectionately named 'Red'.

Unfortunately, character dolls don't blend with my others well. I've mostly given up on them. But minime sculpts make great bases for original characters.

Chauvelard is a Nobility Minime head based on Fenris from Dragon Age II:



Coincidentally, he's named for Chauvelin from The Scarlet Pimpernel. Lawful Evil villains, man. Gotta respect the classics. His personality design embodies characteristics from X-men's Magneto.

I also have the DIM version. He'll be coloured grey once he gets a body.

There's a character in my roster named 'Sellenor Astorix' who was shelled as a Lee Pace/Thranduil minime:



I'd like to remake him if I can find the right body.



Thalanx (Soom Sard), a sentient being not quite machine or organic, was psuedo-named for the Phalanx, also from X-men. Their tattoos were inspired by Apocalypse.

Traveler, who used to be a Batchix Orpheus, was a large nod to Doctor Who. I even gave him a long scarf and a hairstyle resembling Tom Baker's.



The 'Voices Beyond' mentioned in various profiles is our name for the Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraftian renown.

He was my favorite character from the books, and I just thought he would be amazing in doll form. Favorite characters from more recent shows/books/anime have tempted me to make them into dolls, but I haven't caved, and even though it's been a while since I read the Vampire Chronicles, Marius sticks around. He's so calming to look at.

Issun, my little Banji, is a resin version of the sidekick character of the same name from the video game O-kami.

My CP/Delf Yder, D, is a resin version of my favorite manga character.

Nightengale (CP/Delf Dreaming El mod) started out as a resin version of Nue from HaruToki, but has ended up sort-of going his own way over the years.

I have an EID Tedros version of the Prince of Shadows, from the tabletop RPG 13th Age...

... as well as a Volks Kiriko version of one of my favorite City of Heroes MMO characters who was based on a humanlike but inhuman species created by Manly Wade Wellman in the 1940's. That makes Shonokin sort-of a literary character once-removed, I guess.

And then there's Dakkar, my Volks F-17, who's meant to be a very young version of a character I've been fond of since I was a kid. Not a lot of people recognize him by name, though. At least, not by THAT name. (If I'd gone for an older avatar and called him Nemo, that probably wouldn't have been an issue. XD)

Given that he's a mash-up of my favorite aspects of both Sun Wukong (from Journey to the West, among other things) and Hanuman (from the Ramayana), my Monkey King probably counts, too...

 

I have three right now.
My first is Ichabod from the short story Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving. I love the story and am thrilled to have my own Ichabod. He is a DZ Benjamin head on a DC k-02 body. Finding an outfit circa late 1700's has proven difficult though.
Second is my Lee-el Tinman Wirt, who reminds me of Clank from the video game series. I like the concept of Clank, but want to keep Wirt as his own character.
Third is (currently on order) a Luts Fenny to be Ratchet. This one will be also based on the character, but I'm going to design him my own way, not an exact copy. So Ratchet and Clank wannabe's, lol.

 

I'm actually working on a doll modeled after Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

I'm just throwing these ideas out here because I haven't actually started working on these dolls yet, but...

...One of the wigs I bought for my new Obitsu girl is a short, light blue one. I'm waiting to see how well it suits her, because if it does, she may wind up becoming a (literal) doll of Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I'm also tempted to turn my MIO Isul into Shuichi Shindou from Gravitation because I found a wig and some clothes in his size that strongly remind me of that character.

I only have one xD Naoto (Koizumi) is based on Inaho Kaizuka from Aldnoah.Zero. He shares many of the same traits as the character he's based on, but belongs in a story of his own along a good number of other characters. I picked his name because Inaho's sister, Yuki, calls him 'Nao-kun' in the series, thus it stuck. ^ ^;

 

I kinda want to make a doll based off of Ayato Naoi from angel beats.

My dolls are very loosely based off of fandome Kylo and Hux characters, originated from Star Wars the Force awakens movie. Technically mine are AU characters. I quit the kylux fandome due to reasons but still loved the characters and there naughty fanon relationships. So I thought I'd proceed to dolls

Started as a joke, (the outfit being made for a doll named Syrinx) then I decided to get a doll for the character.

I don't have any dolls at the moment that are based off of characters but I am putting together a doll to base off of Shin from Amnesia (I'm thinking using a Resinsoul Mai). I've haven't seen the anime yet, though. I've only played the visual novel, but I've also heard the anime is bad so it might be a while before I get around to seeing it. Anyways, huge Shin fangirl!

I currently have a doll that isn't exactly based on but more "loosely inspired" by Nachi from Full moon O'sagashite (I'm so upset he didn't make it into the anime ). Mostly he has a couple of similar personality traits and has a look very loosely based off of him.

 

I'm currently saving for a trio of dolls as a project! I'm in love with the series Katanagatari and want to make a Princess Hitei, Emonzaemon and Maniwa Houou doll, with several outfits and wig styles (:

They are really the only dolls I want and the main reason I've reinvigorated my love for this hobby tbh :3 especially with the gorgeous work that DZ and DC are putting out ;u; I know it's not a popular trope for dolls, but it's lovely seeing other peoples!

 

I really want to make a doll of young Genji from Overwatch, even though it's not really an anime lol. but yeah character dolls are so fun!!

 

I have two dolls that portray characters from a book series called Daomu Biji. They are Zhang Qiling and Wu Xie. I was not really planning to have them, they just kind of happened because Ringdoll put them out and the Daomu Biji fan in me just could not say “no”.

 

At the moment I'm making D from Vampire Hunter D. I already have the body that I wanted, so in my spare time I'm recreating his outfit and will eventually be doing his wig. Just, he is such a lovely looking character (from the 2000 movie adaptation I mean) and I'm a real sucker for the classic vampire gothic stories. Just....ugh I wish I was finished already.

 

This just reminded me of the fact that my guy, Tahmos, had a lot of his face-up inspired by Adam Lambert in a few of his stage looks (especially in photos where he used eye-shadow/glitter around the eyes). Also, he has Adam's little smirk and a few shared personality traits as well.

 

I dream of having a doll picturing my muse (he's a mere human musician but also has 2d avatar - normal thing for nico nico singer), but as he has a very specifiс face i doubt if i ever find a sculpt that will be good enough. Also, i'd be too jealous to let someone mke minimee))))) so i suppose i'd rather make the head by myself when i have more skills, and leave existing molds for original characters, because they are are more bishounenish

 

On the one hand, I really want my next doll to be based on a favorite character who's meant a lot to me... but because he's been so difficult to find a good match for, I'm likely to go with an original character who's easier to shell. Although, with how long it tends to take me to put the cash in the dolly fund between everything else in life, maybe I'll find the perfect doll or a workable hybrid by the time I'm ready to buy again. But I love hearing about everyone's favorite characters and who they think would make the best versions of them. This thread is my happy place right now.

 

My first and only doll at the moment is based off of Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. I though it was suiting for a pretty little doll.

 

Someone else would have to make a Zen to go with him. XD

Someday I would love a Frida Kahlo doll. She's always been my idol and I think it'd be cool to have her in doll form. If I ever see the right sculpt I might bite the bullet and go for it.

 

Well, basically my entire crew consists of preexistent characters...Marvel's Avengers. Though I gave them a twist of my own. And there is also Mr. Spock...my own version (though of course based on the Star Trek character). And then there is Raphael, my phoenix angel...and he is partly based on the archangel.

And lately I had this crazy idea of a parallel world of Elves, but these will be heavily based on Lord of the Rings.

 

That's the hardest part, yeah... especially since mine would have to be the Nevermore version. That would just be a royal pain in the rear at 1/6-scale. o_0

(For you guys who have no clue what Star and I are yammering on about... This is Reaper the Overwatch character in his Nevermore skin. XD He's a stylish nightmare.)

I know there are doll sculpts based on real actors/characters, as well as Vocaloid ball jointed dolls, but do any of you have pictures of pre-existing sculpts done up in clothes/makeup to tribute a character from a show/game/book/etc? Curious.

 

I've a few dolls I've made into characters from comic books, anime/manga, and other books, but I do not own any of the pre-made sculpts.
I know there are some sub threads around for dolls from comics, dolls based on WoW, dolls from Black Butler to name a few of the many things in threads that could relate to this subject.
