ccbjd California BJD Con Saturday May 15th 2010 !

Dec 12, 2009

    1. How exciting! If it makes a difference, parking at the downtown Holiday Inn is a nightmare. I went to an event there with my fiance. The Ramada would probably be a better choice in terms of ample (free) parking nearby.

    2. InkyBear- I totally understand hating to ask for time off ! But here is our situation: Securing a hotel at that time of year we are fighting the wedding parties and the 'spring weddings' That is why we have to secure the hotel this month or else we might not get it for May at all.

Maybe if we can start a poll now before hand on how many people would like the 15th or the 22nd? When we sign the contract we have to be able to let them know exactly what date we need to secure.

So I have you down for the 15th.

notkyleandtheelf Thats great I cant wait to meet you. Things are looking up each day to this happening especially with the support with the out of town DOA members

lolibunnyis that you Holly?(waves) We will keep that in mind but we are also trying to work out something with that hotel for parking for con goers if we do go with the holiday inn.

    3. Thanks for your response Aichan, I completely understand and am very excited :)

I also wanted to ask, and sorry if I missed it somewhere on the websites, but what are the hours for this convention? I know there will be lunch served and I'm assuming the vendor's room will be open after that (or will it be open before as well)? Once again just trying to plan a schedule and see if I could make the whole con work in one day as opposed to needing two days for driving needs.

      Thanks! :)

    4. Hi! When we get the hotel secured we will have all that information set up, time, gift bag pick up, luncheon and convention schedules as well since we are planning for people to give demos on thing like doll care etc .I know its a little topsy turvey for lack of a better expression but it should be resolved soon.

      Thanks so much for patient!

    5. Update--Deadline : Jan31st is the last day you can Preregister for Luncheon package this includes vendors we are talleying the number of people for the luncheon part of the convention because after Jan 31st the luncheon part of preregister will be taken off.

      Thank you!

    6. I was about to pre-register as if I were on fire until I read this post. It's totally true :(
For SDSU, for instance, Finals fall between May 13-20, and commencement occurs between the 21-23. I really, really would love to go, but I can't miss my boyfriend's commencement, or my final exams. That would make me a bad person. :...(

Personally, I would throw a vote in for the 15th, because the probability of my being able to attend is much higher. Of course, that is only looking at my own interests...TT_TT

    7. Do they hold exams on Saturdays? I can see what a strain that would be to have to study for exams then travel that night or the next morning even if you did have that saturday free.

I will also put your vote down for the 15th as there are a few others who find this date more acceptable as well. Thanks so much for your input!

    8. They actually do schedule exams for Saturday mornings sometimes! O_O The CSU system is EVAL!

    9. Ack that is awful, you should get extra credit for saturday exams , just for showing up!

    10. Okay, I am for sure going to pre-register on Friday, when I get paid. I am crossing fingers for the 15th, however, as I already requested the time off and I have another event to attend the following weekend...:eusa_pray

    11. *Tasuki love*

      I am pming you

    12. Ooh, we're definitely pre-reg-ing this week! (well, this week is our last chance... *sweat*) I'm excited already. And whatever date works for the most people should work for us... I don't think we have anything on the calendar for either weekend.

      =^__^=
      Anneko

    13. Thats great Anneko! Cant wait to see you guys again.

I also wanted to announce a new sponsor , Mimi Woo http://www.mimiwoo.com/

Even though she cannot attend in person ( she is overseas ) she has been most generous as to provide us with donations 'to share BJD hobby with every one (=^;^=) '

    14. I was wondering Aichan, (and sorry if it was already mentioned), the website says that there will be a doll costume contest. Is there a specific theme or size or something to that nature, or do we just bring our best dolly outfits?

    15. Hi!

Oh no problem I know its alot to read through! We will be updating with more details on contests and program the second week of Feb or possibly sooner. we want to give you all as much time as possible to come up with your outfits!

      So I dont double post:
I am happy to announce two new vendors to the line up:

      SeraFinna * website coming soon*:fangirl:

Lastochka Bjd Fairy Tale Fashions http://lastochkabjd.wordpress.com/

    16. I just registered!!! MyMel0dy is coming too, we can't wait. Also, you might want to check your shopping cart at paypal. The confirmation page at the end is 404.

"Not Found. The requested URL /successfulorder.html was not found on this server."
      http://www.grave-designs.com/successfulorder.html

      Can't wait to go!

    17. Hm... the confirmation worked for us when we registered. But I guess sometimes it's just luck when it comes to web spottiness.

      =^__^=
      Anneko

    18. I have some people say that they get the 404 error and some say that it went through. It might be my server or paypal. :sweat

I got your payment though thank you!

    19. I just signed up my daughter and myself. I received the 404 error also. We're looking forward to attending :)

    20. :danceYay, I'm pre-registered!! Not a moment too soon, too! I can't believe I waited this long, I was going to do it Friday and forgot eh heh:sweat. Well, be that as it may I'm still pre-registered and I can has lunch! YAY!!:D

PS @aichan Yes, Tasuki = luv :D I would have done hotohori too, but I don't think his giant ego could fit in my tiny avatar haha. But seriously now I has Chrom and to me Chrom = perfect Tasuki!! We shall see if I can get some sort of cosplay together...hmmmm

    21. julia We received it thank you Julia! We sent you a confirmation.

notkyleandtheelf Well you know that no one is as beautiful as hotohori so his cosplay would kind of be hard to do lol.

    22. OMg. I totally want to attend this~

    23. Lol, aichan! I already have hotohori at home;) Just trust me, you'll see what I mean. See you in May.

    24. Will the hotel be offering any kind of special rates for Convention attendees? And also, is there any place people who wish to share rooms could hook up?

Also- at some point will you have a list of other things around Fresno to do? If I remember correctly there is a zoo there, and also isn't there some kind of underground city or something?

    25. Hi ,

I had spoken to the hotel about reduced rates for convention earlier and they had quoted 109.00 a night which I didnt really think a 'good' rate.

When we met with the hotel I asked again and they said they could work on something reduced but they are supposed to give me a call back by today.

if I dont hear back from them I am going to conclude that they cant go lower then that . I did leave them a 'reminder' message though.

As for additional sight seeing I will be updating the

      http://www.ccbjd.org/location.html

page ( down at the bottom portion) with links to more places here in fresno for people who want to peek around here .:)

    26. Well, $109 a night is better than the AAA rate for a room with a King. But the normal room (which I'm guessing is one double bed,or one queen) was $99. So unless they were talking about the king room, their "special" rate is higher than the AAA rate.

However, if the $99 is for a room with two queen-size beds, then people could share a room and split the cost, it would only be $50 each. Plus there is free parking, right? Which is a real bonus. By the time you paid hotel rate, taxes, and parking at the host hotel for the San Francisco conventions, it was almost $200 a night.

    27. Check out the Meux home if you like historical sites, I like it allot and the people there are really friendly.
The Tower district/Downtown Fresno is were artists in Fresno hide out, and is also were all the best thrift shops are...hehe... it's allso the seady part of town were all the gangs are though so don't hang out in allyways or walk at night..oh, and there are some one-way streets! witch is why the non-artist don't go there...lol
Oh and downtown clovis is allso walking aria with lots of antique shops (yesterday I saw loads of SD and Tiny sized antiques!) Clovis is preatty much part of Fresno btw.
As for underground stuff there is the underground gardens, witch are more like an underground cave house with fruit trees if i remember corectly. It's cool, check it out if ya have time (the bathroom was my favoret part when I was little...).
Our met musem closed (that shows you just how lame it can be here) but we do have some other musems that are cool. Such as the latin american musem.
We do have a zoo...but its funky and old and our hippo died.. :( so check out other stuff more than that.
But the Zoo is right next to storybook land! Witch is sorta fun but only if you are in a really immature mood..
ummm...anddd we have some outdoor shoping "expiriances", but if you want the "color" of fresno go to the other places.
I allways like to tell people about the potential coolness of fresno (witch has only 4 parking garages..).. So yeah given the chance I will go on for ages about what you can do here.

    28.
    29. How do we get the special rate? Do we have to ask for it when we register- is there some kind of code or something if we book online? Thanks!

    30. Actually I just got off the phone with the hotel person I have been dealing with and the rate is now 92.00 a night. She is drawing up the contract and informing the front desk.

This price is for both Singles and Doubles. To get this rate you just have to tell the front desk you are with the Central California BJD Covention.

Today might be to early since I just got off the phone with her and she is leaving for the day but they have a toll free number 1 (888) 465-4329 to reserve rooms . Online there is no code sorry:|

    31. The Met museum closing is heavily suckish, but I actually liked Fresno's zoo a lot last time I was there. You know, compared to Merced's zoo...

But YES, the shopping area in downtown Clovis is full of win! There are a couple of hobby shops (one is mostly miniature trains and model kits, the other has doll stuff!) and a quilters' supply store which has some good tiny-print fabrics, so it's a really great place for doll people to poke around. The mostly-trains hobby shop had some Testors stuff-- they didn't have a sealer when we went, but because they carry model customizing stuff, it's worth taking a peek, it's only a couple shops down from the doll-and-bear collectors place.

Fresno also has a Super Jo-Ann's, an art supply store called Allard's that I really love (don't have the address on-hand, but it's next to a Trader Joe's). And according to the hotel's website, it's not too far from the mall, which means it's also not too far from Yen Ching buffet, which is a really good restaurant.

    32. Hi All,

May I please ask some questions about this event? I'm thinking I would like to come to it, but I need some info if thats okay. I'm so new to all this, and I don't know what is usual or not. So will there be classes at this convention? Will there be other vendors added as well? For example I buy from Denver Dolls, is there any chance that they will come too? I've never been to a doll convention, generally speaking what is it like? Hope that's not too random, thanks~Sabina~

    33. Hi Sabina,

Yes there are vendors please see this page to see the most current list, we are also waiting on a few banners from a couple of our vendors so there are some people missing.

      http://www.ccbjd.org/vendorlist.html

We are putting the program together as to workshops and demos and we have another entire convention room dedicated to this. As for Denver Dolls I am not sure if they have been contacted to vendor but I will make a note of it and let them know that they are indeed wanted.

Conventions vary as to programs but if you keep an eye on the first page of this thread , our News thread or on the website itself you will get the most current information.

    34. Do you happen to have a ball park idea for starting and ending times? I am trying to decide whether I need to stay the night before or after or both. My drive time will be about 5 hours. :?

    35. First I needed to announce this:

: * Rates note added 2/5/10 we should have this resolved by Tuesday
There was a problem with the hotel rates at the Holiday Inn and right now they are working to secure a better rate at a hotel a few blocks down from them I am so sorry for the inconvience .[/B]

Now on to your question, you can begin picking up your registration packages from us at 10 am if you are an ATTENDEE but the convention starts for the luncheon portion promptly at 11 am ( meaning you should have already signed in and picked up your gift bag by this time and be seated)

But if you did not purchase the luncheon portion the convention opens up at 12:45 and goes to a flexible time of 7:00 pm

    36. Thank you so much for all the info Aichan, I will check into this!

      ~Sabina~

    37. Thank you Aichan! This really helps. I think staying the night before and after would be better for me and more fun! Now to see if everyone in my group can get Friday afternoon off...:sweat

    38. I'd love to go but can't . I'm going to Anime north 2 weekends after.I can only save for one event plus I don't think my old Van would drive that far. lol Have fun guys.

    39. I tried making reservations online through the Holiday Inn website but they don't seem to have anything available for Friday night before the convention. Could they really be booked already? :( I can get Saturday night but not both. I thought it would be more convenient to be at the convention hotel. It doesn't look like there are too many hotels within walking distance either. I haven't tried calling the hotel directly. Has anyone else been successful in booking Friday night? :?

    40. Hey guys~ This is the owner of Akasarushi.

I'll be attending the con as a Vendor. Do any of you guys wants specific things or style of clothings you like to see? before i start designing all the new stuff? do let me know~

so for example. You want to see Traditional Chinese style clothings, or Traditional Japanese styles

also. i'll be accepting faceup commissions, as well as wig styling. SO if you guys want to have those done. unfortunately i can't have it done at the con for you. But iDef. Take the commission then ship the stuff to you guys later.

    41. Not me, which is very concerning, being a vendor. Both Pam and I will be driving up Friday night and planned to stay over in the hotel so we'd be there for early setup.

Astrid, are there really no rooms available, or do they have a block held out?

    42. Anarwyn

      clochette

      Hi

The hotel has been booked up already even though there was a block of rooms availble for CCBJD goers. However the good news is that my contact at Holiday Inn is working with a couple of other hotels a few blocks away to catch the overflow . There are a couple with in walking distance of 3 blocks.

I will have word on Tuesday on the hotel and the convention rate for you guys. So just sit tight on the booking end if you want a lower convetion rate.

    43. Hello ^^

I was wondering, for the costume contest, is there a certain theme? Sorry if this has already been answered. Thanks! ^^

    44. HI Pumpkin ,

since we are still working on the program , contest theme, number of contests and catagories are still TBA.

We should have more info on contest this comming week for people who want to enter them :)

    45. Awesome! Thanks so much! I'll just be lookin out for the announcement then ^^

    46. :/ I understand it's only 3 blocks walking, but being an out-of-town vendor, that does pose some difficulty, as we won't actually *be* walking, we'll have a car loaded with boxes of items. We'd have to stay at another hotel and either unload/reload the car, or take the risk of leaving it loaded. Neither are appealing options, as I'm sure you understand.

Just curious...how many rooms were in the block on Friday? Considering the dates weren't even set until last week.

    47. All they could give us was a 15 room block. Yes I totally understand having being a vendor at some pretty shady places. one place actually moved all our stuff *outside* the venue for *overnight* while it rained!

This was an event that had been going on for years too . Needless to say I never was a vendor with that event again.

I apologize for the inconvience it may cause but maybe we can work something out . I am pm'ing you.

    48. updating hotel infor

Discounts for hotel rooms- It seems like the holiday inn may be booked up ( you can give them a call if you like becuse you never know) but the good news is that -La quinta Hotel three blocks down from Holiday inn has agreed to catch the overflow from our convention. For $62.10 for standard double room type LA Quinta: Address: 2926 Tulare Street, Fresno, CA - (559) 442-1110

if people share that is only 30 odd dollars each a night.

      ----------------------
      Contest page is now up

      http://www.ccbjd.org/contest.html

    49. We are exicited to announce HAUTE DOLL is our newest sponsor, also that we made a little room ------------

    50. We added two more Vendors to the Fresno BJD convention!

      LovepetDolls

      Plasticaobscura

Thanks to the two of you for your partcipation !

And we are happy to announce Denver Doll Emporium www.denverdoll.com/ has donated a giftcard for their store!

    51. YEY~ more vendors~ is there more attendees as well?

    52. Just saw your DoA add! I would love to attend. How big is the vendor hall? It's a 4-hour drive from where I live, and just want to be sure it's worth the drive and missing a day of work. (Nice vendor list so far, but I've been to many non-BJD shows along to find out it was a 20x20 room I could see in an hour and a half.) I've been to Dollectable (when it was still called that). Size comparison?

    53. Hi Cymorill,

We have two rooms the convention will take place in, one is the vendor room which maximum people at once is 150 room is 46x31 and the demo/ contest/photo op room which will be opened at 2:00/2:30 holds 75 people and is 33x31

We also have additional rooom for japanese style manga artists so that might be a feature as well.

I dont know how large dollectable was so I cant compare it:doh sorry! If it makes you feel any better though we have people coming from out of state as far as Illinois that attending and in state as far as San Diego..

Either way I hope you can make it!

aibakaneko Yes more attendees as well! I just dont post when new people sign up and registere since that might be considered spam heh )

    54. Ooo, sounds like it'll be a lot of fun!!! I'm definitely planning on going!

    55. Thats great news! We are working on the program right now so that it can really be more of a fun filled day. Stay tuned for more news and cant wait to meet you in person!
