Ah you have a fashion designer in your 'family'. I see where her body shape come from now. I am curious to see what you do with a boy Whether you will make him more 'fashion proportions' or 'realistic'... (no preference, I just love suprises!) The outfit she wearrs is very flattering. Definately a good look for her! Can't wait to see what else your girlfriend creates.
thanks, i'm in a progress of making another girl doll. i want to make better doll than LiV, coz i'm not satisfied with the joint (a little too floppy). here's a little progress of my new doll. i'd like to give it "invisible" double jointed knee (i hope this gonna work...) i'm running out of my clay....
For your first dolls, this is truly amazing! I absolutely adore the clothing on Liv--it definitely fits her quite well...
She is so beautiful and sophisticated, I can hardly believe she is the first BJD you have made - so proffessional! You should certainly launch your own line, you and your girlfriend have so much skill!
thanks!! i was surprised too when my girlfriend made that outfit. i just draw her some scetch of how i want her to look like with the outfit, and choose the fabric she has in her room. i just say i want this to be this, and that to be that. (do i make sense with the word? i'm not good in english..) but she improvise, and turns out to be great outfit. i'm glad we have a lot in common, sense of fashion and art are some of those. @kaii yes, we're planning to make our own BJD line in this year. i've invest on some molding and casting "machine". we're really2 exited about it! but also scared.. please support us in prayer, so everything could be done as planned.
Wow, how have I just only come across this thread?! I have to say, i'm stunned and completely jealous of you. One, for having such an amazing talent and doing such a great job, and secondly for now owning a stunning doll.
Wow...are you going to college for sculpting? You're really good. If the schools there can produce you and your girlfriend, who are both AMAZING, then maybe I should leave the states to learn fashion design and scuplt from there? =]
@lolipop yeah she has so much japanese manga style, but that's not my idea when sculpting it. at first i want to sculpt realistic face with a cute big eyes. like Dream of Teenager "E-An" (i love DoD style). i guess i don't have enough skill yet.. @alien thanks, i'm glad u finally read my thread! keep watching for updates in this thread ok? i'll put all my future sculpt here. @mephistol thanks for the kind words. @razberrietea no i'm going to college for Visual Communication Design. i'm learn sculpting from a lot of online tutorial, forums, etc. at first try i sculpt many things that ends up in a garbage can. it's been 2,5 years since my first attempt on sculpting. but for BJD "LiV" is my first one, and my favourite sculpt of all time... my girlfriend just attending a course of sewing and fashion design, not a college. $40-30 USD a month (cheap isn't it?? welcome to indonesia where everything is affordable).
I was thinking more in the classic sense of style she's very tasteful and looks very chic. I can see Dream of Teenager in her I think you archived your goal rather well!
@lolipop thanks! can't wait to finish my second doll head. the progress being slow lately. @elfy016 really!!??? Wow i'll drop you a PM as soon as i'm ready to sell my doll cast!!
here's my latest update of the second SD size BJD. i'm planning to cast it for sale. i start from legs, coz for me legs are the hardest part to make. feel free to drop comments and critique, so i can make the best doll i could.
She's phenominal, definitely keep working on her. Your next step I think is to maybe try working on torso joints, I would think but it is so pretty still to see smoothe body without it. The face is especially pretty, but the body is a masterpiece. Very good!
@warpug thanks, i'm working on the right leg joint now @nyalee yes, i'll make a torso joint this time (as smooth as possible). but the next sculpt are the arms. i'll work on the intresting part last. coz my weakness on sculpting is: when i finished the head or body and satisfied with it. i become hasty for the rest sculpt to finshed. that's a bad habit. (consider this as a tips for sculpting) i try to reverse the process now. coz i need to build the best doll i could.
You could start your own BJD shop! I'm sure people would flock to buy those BJD's. I'm so jelous now I'm really tempted to make my own BJD but I just dont have the materials Oh well! Well done, this is looking great! ^^
Donny_83, fantastic job on the new knees. I really like how they bend inward (toward the middle) just a little bit. You said you spent weeks on them, but they look like they were worth every minute! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing in-progress pictures, it's very interesting. I also think your girlfriend makes awesome clothes -- and you're right, your styles fit together very well.
indonesia that place bring back childhood memories, i use to live their about 5 years, still got pictures of back then before we come over to the USA, but let me say, I love your girl, if i have the time, i'll cast my own but sadly, time isn't on my side.
Wow, she 's beautiful! For a newbie at sculpting, you are extrememly good and talented. I can't sculpt for my life, lol
@the-sinister AMEN for that!! you should try to sculpt one yourself. i use a relatively cheap material. it called KERAMIPLAST a LYRA product. only 5 USD for 1 kilogram, 2 kilos should be enough to sculpt 1 SD size doll. @T4124 Thanks, i'm flattered. i try to made it "life like legs", i spent so many times looking at mirror as a reference. @Mephistol Thanks wow, don't you miss indonesia? someday you should visit indonesia again. @nana eiliru thanks, try to make a simple BJD sculpt. sculpting is just 30% talent and 70% experience and patience.
i would...but i know no one there, and really...it been so long. Like 15 years. I do miss the ocean, and the lovely landscape.
Donny you've creatued a truly beautiful doll. I was wondering how you are attatching your double knee joints inside the leg? If it's a secret you ofcourse don't have to tell... I just became curious.
Oh goodness, she is absolutely darling! A gorgeous doll indeed, I love those giant eyes. Her leg posing is really impressive too *__*! I'm also curious haha XD;
i forgot to tell, i decided not to use double jointed leg. so that was single jointed legs, but "nearly" pose like double joint. double joint made it floppy..
Btw i'll post the next update on new thread. coz i just read the forum rules.. each project should post in a new thread. so check out my new thread for my second BJD. SD SIZE GIRL by D.H Studio (WIP)
You are so talented...I want to try and make one myself If i eve get the nerve to that is but its really refreshing to see someone design their very own doll.
First thing, Donny you did an amassing job keep it up! ^^ I wanted to know how hard KERAMIPLAST gets? Can it handle being used a lot? (joints and so) Or is it better to cast in resin if you want your doll to last?
thanks, it's quite hard. it has the characteristic and hardness like plaster when fully cured.. (easy to sand, carve, and it takes primer well). and you still can adding clay easily even when it cured, just add water to the surface. i don't know about it's durability, for hollow sculpt it might be too risky for high tension stringing. but it's OK if just for test stringing. i always cast it to resin for final.
This is CRAZY!! The finish is just so... WOW. Its just like those that you buy ready made. You are so cool!
Wow...her sculpting is gorgeous, and her casting looks really good too! You did an amazing job with her.
I just want to say how beautiful your doll is. I can't imagine the time you had to put in to mold all of the joints and the hands and feet. I really am amazed at your talent.
Wow! o0o!!! That's such a pretty sculpt you got there! You're really great on your first one and man I wish I can do that since I don't have much money either! XD
she is amazing! She looks like a professionally made doll! You are really inspiring! Once day I want to make my own. Keep up the good work! I would love to see close ups of her, especially her face up and with a wig- stunning doll!
wow thanks for the nice comments. it's been a while from my last visit to this forum. i'm glad everyone liked my sculpt
What a fine doll! One the the most amazing hand-made doll that I have seen! Even some compagnie doesn't have face so "alive"!!
I've also enjoyed seeing your pics and reading your comments/answers about your doll, who is lovely. Thanks for sharing, and good luck with the commercial endeavor!
Wow...You are truly talented and inspiration to those like myself who would love to create dolls like yours. Your doll is incredible and not to mention beautiful.
hi again, thanks for the nice comments. she's my first BJD attempt. it tooks a month to build her. she has quite simple spherical joint, a lot of mistakes i made for her joint. she won't stand, and has floppy joint. but i made a new one now it's nearly finished. this time everything goes perfect. wish me luck!!
