Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread Part 3

So is there anyone who has both BBB and RS boy bodies? I'm both considering a completely new boy, and getting Gabriel a new body (though I'm not as fond of the single-jointed construction as I am of the double-jointing... makes me wonder if I could mix parts). I'd love to see comparisons if anyone had both. ^^

Oh, oh, I sold my large Feng on the Marketplace... so now it seems I have a little more leeway with that group order...

...and now I just seriously -do not have a clue- which doll to get for my next attempt at my boy Sylvyrr. @.@ All I know is that I want dark tan, and I'm not opposed to having a girl head on a boy body. ...even elf ears, really, as long as they're the short kind that could be hidden well enough by a wig.

Syl's a gentle, slightly effeminate boy anyway. But I have no idea. DX

I used to have a have a mature body aswell (which fits minifee sized clothing very well by the way. No chest issues) and I'm guessing that would fit Dollheart very well aswell.

Vicemage~ I'm pretty doubtful. I was wondering the same thinga bout the females... but they seem to be fairly differently size in the shoulder.... Don't know if it's the same for males... or even females in the legs... didn't ever check.

Immature body wearing a Dollheart set (forgot the name. Royal Blue maybe?)
And Mimiwoo boots, which barely fit with her socks on, so they should fit snuggly without socks.


No real frontal pic of this one. Mature body with a Minifee sized dress made by Silje. She filled it up pretty well.
She has shoes from Dollmore on here, but they're waaaaay too big.

Also, I'm not sure minifee clothign would look good on an immature bobobie body, because there's the chest issue. Most minifee's have at least some chest, while the immature bbb body has absolutely no chest (I think it's just the male chest actually). So anything with a chest shape in the clothes themselves probably won't work. Stretchy shirts etc should fit nicely.

But the jacket that comes with it is too big and sleeves are far too long so I will need to try and adjust it somehow. The little pants fit OK though.

Thanks Raesha. She may be a bit too weak to dance at the moment (a bit too floppy LOL) but I will fix this soon.
Her faceup is quite bad so it won't be staying. The gloss they used run down under both of her eyes which looks like tears - it is not so much visible in the picture but it does make her look even more sad. And her lips look half done, but at least the color is pale so it doesn't look too bad. She just needs a make-over and she'll be happy again

ALSO. The person who was selling sets of clothes(what I was talking about earlier), I gave her Mai's Measurements and she said that it would fit him. And that the shirt would be a little tight, but not too tight for it to not fit.

Oh do you have any pics before you alter the Jacket? I love pictures for the verses thread! It helps so much as opposed to just being like "Oh this fits.. this doesn't" then you can go "this fits liek this!"

Well, my Mei was supposed to be here today, but... she isn't. I hope everything's okay, since her tracking number hasn't updated since she left the seller's town. But I'm giving it a couple more days before I get really worried, since I know the US postal service can be... questionable, at times.

But about 30 minutes after I checked the mail and saw no doll and no notice of an attempted delivery, and was disappointed about that, I went to start my car and... it wouldn't start. DX So now I have a big bill from a mechanic too! x.x; I'm glad I've had some pretty pictures to look at in this thread to cheer me up.

With the girls, I'm pretty sure it's not possible, since the bodies are quite different in size, but I haven't seen any comparisons on the boys yet... if they're close to the same size, it could work. ^^ (Though, I do like the shaping of the RS arms and legs... I just don't care for the joints. I've learned I'm a double-joint person.)

 

*nod* I don't care for single joints either, I prefer my double joints >.. I love the lok of the bodies and the sleder lovely limbs... but not for those joints.

 

I don't mind the single joints if the body sculpt is worth it. I can get Liina to do some stuff that I can't do with my double-jointed guy and vice-versa.

 

Because of a bad experience, double joints kind of turn me off from a sculpt. The only experience I've had with double joints has been my Iple Harin (I know she's OT, but I'm just bringing her up for the sake of the discussion). I bought her has a floating head and bought a new Iple body for her. It posed horribly. It was so bad that I actually had to glue the second joints in place and suede her just to get her looking right (this is probably because they've changed their bodies over the years, the old bodies aren't this bad). Then I got the opportunity to get her original body so I sold the one I had to get her original one (yay! the resin from her head matches her body now! whee!). And it does pose much better (despite the fact that it has had no work done to it, yet again it is an older body), but I still don't like it. But then again, I have a slight dislike of the Iple body esthetics in general too. But I put up with it because I love my Harin so much. But since my Harin is a limited fullset I do plan to get another Harin that is more for 'play' than 'display' and when I do get her I will just get just the head and try to find a resin match on a different body.

Maybe I just need to see a body that has really nice double joints, but this experience has really turned me off from double jointed dolls in general. Plus, my two B&G girls are single jointed and the are so nice! not to mention my Ju. I love my single jointed dolls.

I am so thrilled! My Mei arrived this afternoon, just about the time I was giving up on UPS and I have my first BJD. She is very tightly strung, so I am going to need to figure out how to adjust the stringing--any tips would be appreciated. And I got a Fwig for her that I really like (at least to start with), but I realize now I need to order a wig cap so it stays on better. Regardless, here she is. I have not personalized a name for her as yet... I am waiting to see what comes with her personality as I sew and make garments for her!

I would post a pic, but need to figure out how!

 

I'd say I've actually got a fairly even split of single- and double-jointed bodies, myself... but all my minis are doubles (one BBB, two AoD, one Souldoll), and I really like them. My tinies are mainly singles, with a couple of them half-and-half, and my one and only large is single-jointed, and she drives me NUTS trying to get her to sit on a shelf... There's some differences there in engineering, but it just seems to me like the larger the joints get, the more awkward they get. (I could be wrong, though. ^_^ I'd have to spend some good quality time with a single-joint Mini to know for sure.)

My Mei arrived so floppy that she couldn't even sit You may want to play with her for a bit before you adjust the stringing as the elastic will stretch after a while. But someone more experienced may give you a better advice. Can she stand up OK? I already adjusted her stringing but still not quite tight enough and she's OK sitting but very hard to pose standing up.

Mei was supposed to be my first resin BJD too but she took forever to arrive and the doll I ordered second actually arrived first... ;-)

My Mei also arrived today! Yay! She has no name yet... but that's because she's a ghost and has been dead for so long she's forgotten what her name is. :O

I really love this girl. Though I noticed it seems like one of her eyes is considerably smaller/maybe a slightly different shape than the other one. o.o But, I still love her despite this, and I think she's super cute!!

Believe it or not, I'm actually stalking the thread. XD Just for the sake of my Blueskin Ariel, aka Kasami.

Anyhoo, when I got my girl, I thought she was fantastic. I still do. However, my friend has an older Mei, and the difference is very noticeable, and almost shocking.

The older body has a much more sleek, thin look, while my girl, with her "new" model body is thicker. It's like her hands and feet stick in/out of their respective limbs (aka arms and legs) like they would out of a sleeve.

Now, I don't really mind it, but I do preffer the sleeker look. What do you all think? I wasn't disapointed, just surprised. Any of you have the same "problem"?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but as I'm reading/updating via phone because I'm stuck in bed with what I suspect is a stomache virus - I'm not going to check... has any one ever modefied mei's ears to be more round and human? The one in your photo is a BBB which are thicker then the RS bodies. So yours may be a Resin Soul body and that is why it is a lot thinner. These are my girls, they both have Mei's body.

Congrats on your girl. You've got it slightly backwards, though; RS is the newer of the two companies, so technically the thinner body is the "new" one. (Mei is a ResinSoul mold, while Ariel is a Bobobie mold, and each will by default come with their own company's body.) It's not a "problem," really, it's just a different company's body. RS and BBB get grouped together due to being "sister companies" with BBB selling both companies' molds, but technically they really are different companies, and thus will have different bodies. If you don't care for it, though, you can likely order a replacement body for your girl and get the slimmer RS body instead.

 

There is really no 'older' or 'newer' body. The differences are in the companies! Ariel and Mei are from different companies. Ariel is a Bobobie doll which comes with a slightly thicker body with double jointed arms, legs, and torso. Mei is a Resinsoul and has the slimmer body and is only single jointed. The two are sculpted by different people. Dennis (the one who runs Bobobie) casts for both companies and makes the resinsoul dolls avaiable through his site. If you prefer one body over another you can actually ask for the other body. Dennis doesn't mind swapping bodies when filling an order.

 

Featherfall actually sell them under Resinsoul actually because that is where i got mine from and i went on that site a lot just to look at pictures of my girl before she got here.

 

Thank you all for the answers. ^^ I was just curious. And the RS vs BBB thing in novelty is odd--the RS Body of my friend is a couple of years old, if I recall. Meanwhile, my BBB is brand new. Huwha? ^^; Oh well. I think they both look good, I was just curious as to what y'all thought, seeing as this is a discussion thread.

Oh, and by the way, ghost-Mei finally has a name--it's Rosalba. It means "white rose" in Italian.

 

Morhighan: It's not a big deal. People often get confused, and it takes a little time to get it all figured out so that you can remember it yourself off the top of your head...I STILL have to check the RS site to make sure if some sculpts are RS or BBB, myself.

Karla-chan~ We have a very small group of women who get together, it is the midwest and there's not much around here. I suspect there will be no more than 7 people, including myself and my sister at this next meet. I -hate- going to the meets with Cassie wearing the same thing she wore last time. I always want there to be something new in her wardrobe. Well all she's got is new wigs... no new clothes... at all. She will look almost itentical to how she looked at the last meet. It mostly makes me feel like I'm getting stagnate and not paying attention to her. Even if it's not true.. She's been getting new wigs all over the place since last meet. She had only the first wig I made her, Now she has several more.

It's mostly me being distracted making other things... Like trying to make a couch cover so our cat doesn't ruin our couch and refinishing a suitcase for my sister's doll. and then me seeing cool stuff that you guys have and realizing how small cassie's wardrobe is... Mostly... it's whining.

 

PinkCow, I adore your Rosalba! It's a lovely name, so perfect for a ghostly girl...and heaven knows, I have a huge soft spot for beautiful ghostly spectres. Those kinds of characters have always fascinated me. There's just something so poignant and romantic about them, and yours is gorgeous.
