I'm not so fond of the 3 part body. It makes my doll floppy.

I agree, they were the first teeny tinies I remember seeing a few years back

 

I like the curvy bodies too, i like the RS bodies the best. But i do admit the BBB mature body looks pretty good too.

I love those trousers by the way, they look so cute and totally something one of my girls would wear! Where did you yet them!

I remember Bobie! I seem to remember her being up for sale on the site, though, way back when BBB was new. I actually thought she was an LE Tiah at the time - she was higher priced than their other MSDs, which is of course not saying a lot.

I prefer the Sprite/Espree/Ariel head on the immature body, because the proportions look right for a kid for me, even though I'm seriously considering getting Espree on the mature body. Mei's head is as big as I'm willing to go on the RS body, even though it's prettier than the BBB body. With the mature bodies, I like Lan and Lu's proportions best of all - graceful and human. Not that Lu looks so very human...

It's amazing to me that, with so much difference in size between Mei and Lan/Lu, they both look absolutely right on the same body.

 

I agree. Most of the slim minis out there have large heads so I am used to it. It's when you get to more realistic sculpts like Lan, that the size pops out at you. But I love how Lan looks too!

 

Lan is a really intriguing doll. She's got such a lovely, unique face for her size! ^^

 

I'm wanting a dark tan doll soon and I'm thinking a dark tan Lan might be a beautiful Indian / North African or Mediterranean type of person? Maybe an ancient Egyptian dancer? (or a modern teenage brat with a Porshe? LOL) My minis are kind of "normal" so if I make my lilac Night Elf, it'll be "outside" the group... not necessarily a bad thing though...

Ugh, but I just don't have the money!

*.* Man I've had a bad week. Two tires blew on me in three days. I've had a really bad week... but thankfully my sister got her doll!!! ^_^ the highlight of my week. I'm probably gonna have to spend the weekend trying to catch up on this thread and updating stuff... T_T I left off at page 154...

I just say it's a trip having a RS to compare to my BBB. Xuzagos (my sister's grey mei) is -so- different but similar... It's crazy

Okay, I kept saying I was going to sew & I completed Valentine's day dresses today! Hooray! I've made 3 extra pink & 3 extra purple which I've listed on ebay. I'm very pleased with how they came out & they even fit my Brielle (IH Tania small bust).

I'm seriously thinking of getting a different body (probably AOD) for my DES head because of the resin match issue, and getting Lan's head to replace the DES. Then I need another RS doll because my daughter, she is in love with the RS body! She wants a doll like that! But I dunno what face to get her. Also, I need to save money after a planned purchase I'm working on... But Lan is so sophisticated (or your's is, that suit is amazing!)

Shuga-shug, I didn't know you were going to sell the dresses, that's a great idea! I wish I could buy but I really have to control myself (I bought a used American Girl doll for my daughter, sending me $50 behind again) So... ugh! But those look very professional and beautiful, they should sell!

ok, shoes (or at least the little sandals I just got) from Mimiwoo are way huge for Ju. I thought they looked so cute and I waited so expectantly for them, then I tried to put them on they were just so huge! They really do look wonderful and very well made (as always mimiwoo, I enjoy your stuff) but Ju's feet are just so tiny!

Just thought I should let you guys know in case you are looking for shoes for your RS minis.

urgent question about MSC.

I'm about to put in an order for a can as they have just arrived in stock here. I don't know whether to go Matt or UV cut. I remember reading somewhere that although the UV cut protects the resin from discololuring to a certain degree it will itself yellow. I need to use it for face ups on gray resin dolls so I don't want their faces looking jaundiced on account of the MSC coating.

Anyone with experience with one or the other or both? I want to order tomorrow so any advice would be appreciated.

Chaypeta, I've never noticed the UV cut going yellow.... though it does make dark resin look lighter (I think either version does) from what I've seen in pictures and what people tell me (dark tan dolls). Since there isn't any red in your resin, and if you're not using it on a regular or tan resin, I'd say get the non-uv cut one just in case as it's not needed to protect anyway (it's the red dye that bleaches out so easily) But I'm no expert. Maybe ask this question in the workshop forum???

 

Raesha - I noticed your Lan's hands are different to my Mei's, have you replaced them or adjusted them somehow (how?). I love my Mei but I have to say the bit I really don't love are her hands, so long and thin with no expression, but your Lan's hands are much nicer

 

They;re the hands that come standard with the Lu mold. You can request for them when you order

Chaypeta, I've used both and haven't found much difference. I usually just use the regular because I don't anticipate my dolls being in the sun enough to need UV protection. If you're going to have your doll out in the sun a lot then I'd go for UV. But if they just mostly hang out at home like mine do, then I'd get regular. Either way, I don't think the MSC would yellow enough to cause a noticable change in grayskin. My Espree is WS and I haven't seen any yellowing of the regular MSC on her at all.

 

Hi Chaypeta...I'd been waiting for that order of MSC to come in via Ningyotan BJD myself as MSC is now very scarce around the country... I had 3 cans on pre-order. I've used the UV cut with no issues as of yet & that's what I've ordered this time as I'd rather have the UV protection in the strong Australian sunlight than not. I too have heard the rumours about MSC discolouring coloured resins but this referred to both the UV cut and non UV cut, and there are similar comments about Testors and many similar products out there but I've yet to see any dramatic results that could be proof of anything other than the slight discolouration that happens aging resin anyway.

 

A quick question do people know if BBB/RS add new colours to the skin tones they offerer every so often? I am now after a red/orange skinned doll. ^^; I have seen this cool wig that has made me want to make a character of mine.

They are so cute, i wish i had one of them for my girls actually, well one of them ^^ The other girl it is not her thing! But they look lovely and you have a lovely doll! I like the purple dress the best! You did a great job!

Thats a really good question actually because i have a dark skinned doll who one day i will get brave enough to get her back tattoo done.

Yikes, i would really like to know the answer to this. Because when this stuff is used it is only tends to be on one part of the doll, so it might make it look odd. If people find out it would be great to know.

 

@Snow Yeah it was pretty incredible! Unfortunately there were no photos allowed inside. This was taken on the roof!

 

I have read all (or almost all) of this thread (and the first one) and all dolls look great so it didn't help me decide which one I should get BUT I found Mei's head on ebay and thought it would be a good idea to have a doll with two heads (meaning two different face ups to swap) so bought the head and it looks like now I'm getting Mei. It will be my first MSD and hopefully it will turn out as beautiful as your dolls

 

Karla-chan: BBB and RS DO have a red color. If you order directly from them (at least through the BBB site, by e-mailing or whatever they normally suggest on the forum there for special orders) you can get any doll they offer in the red resin. I think it's a REALLY pretty color, personally. Can't wait to order one of the tiny tinies in it to make into a red dragon. ^-^

LOL, but if I give the body to my daughter, I think I'd get Mei, if I kept the doll for myself, I'd get Lan I guess I'm not ready to decide, so I probably wouldn't have bid anyway Still, I know you'll love her! congratulations!

Oh yah, Karla-chan, they did Tinybear's Bracken in red, and it was an awesome red... more brick in color than pink or burgandy like. He made such a cute little devil, I mean CUTE! Red would be an awesome resin to get!

The second picture down on this page is Bracken. You may have to special order it and see if anyone else is putting that resin to a doll until they have enough of an order to make it though??

Congratulations on getting a Mei head! She's a beautiful sculpt and at least that helps make your decision (it's so difficult to decide between all the gorgeous sculpts of this company.) I think it's a great idea to have two heads for your doll, so you can change her look from time to time. I have another doll I'm doing that with (not BBB or Resinsoul though) and I'm really excited about the project.

 

If you order directly from BBB you can do a special order to get any of the dolls on the site in any color they offer. I know you can do a special order by e-mailing Denis with it. If I'm right you would e-mail [email protected] with what you want to order. I'm sure they'd get back to you with what it would cost and then you could place your order with them through that e-mail. If I remember correctly, they'd then send you an invoice for payment.

And on that note, I'm looking for good close faceup shots of Mai or Jun. He looks like he might have a nice smile.

You know, Karla-chan...I've been trying to find the right face for my character, Carla (who is inheriting my light tan BBB body from Shikyo/Espree so she can be moved to a light tan RS body) and for all that I plan to get a boy An next...I think that I might just need to get a second An head (in light tan) to be my Carla...hmmm...2 An sculpts for 2 different characters from 2 different stories wouldn't be bad, right? ^-~ But then...who would be Carlos? Carla's twin brother...oh dear...*goes a looking*

 

Well one really good thing about these dolls if you can make them look very different. I don't think it will be bad if that is what you really want.

 

IngieBee, I'm usually the one that is bidding too late but this time I was lucky and spotted the head soon after it was listed It's brand new from someone who bought Mei but only wanted the body and it was cheaper than buying from the shop.

PoeticSoul , I'm excited too. I want to have one head that it's just pure and delicate Mei and the other one will be more dark and evil, her alter ego. We'll see how it turns out

One of my friends modded jun, with my bobobie/mnf hybrid and multihead ante on puki body x3~ He's pretty modded, taller has more of a smile, modded ears, added fur, and normally antlers :3

Actually I just got a bite from someone looking to split up a bbb body, we'll have to see how this pans out. as for my sister's doll I shall be heavy handedly pushing her towards the thread to get some spam going on asap. The doll is so lovely. I have always disliked unpainted dolls... -always- found them -so- half made, but her mei is stunning straight out of the box... I was shocked at how much -I- fell in love with her.

I know how you feel, i am being tempted so much more. It was only meant to be the one doll! I saw this fire looking wig and i heard BBB doing red skin and i was like, wow i could actually make my D&D character Valkyrie. Plus i really want a RS song.

I am happy you like her though, i am loving her more and more all the time!
