Bobobie Discussion Thread Part 2

I'm not 100% certain about Charisma but I know the 58cm girls heads (like Ai) have a 21cm head circumference (aprox. 8.4 inches) and the DOT sized wigs are recommended (20.5 - 22cm / 8.2 - 8.8 inches aproximately, in other words an 8-9 inch wig)

 

I'm afraid it wouldn't. IH JID Boys are really huge. They wear SD size clothing in all but the length! I know a lot of people find clothes at Dollmore where the prices are pretty good. It's a Korean company and if you want to save on shipping, there always seems to be a group order in the works

PinkCow, it seems to me a lot of the WoW characters have similar ears! Going straight back. For an MSD sized doll, I suggest Ju, but I can't recall what everyone said before (or I might have said, as I don't remember answering, which is normal for me, LOL)

piffie, your Ariel is adorable, and I think it's the first one I recall seeing an owner's shot of, though I'm probably wrong ???

 

Although the question would be better in the Larger Doll section I can answer based on my dolls. All of my SD dolls from RS & BBB wear MSD (7-8) sized wigs.

Wow, really small heads! But that's why they have such realistic proportions, no? Doesn't Lan wear 5/6, two sizes smaller than a "normal" MSD? I really like her realistic proportions

Have you tried emailing Emory at Junkyspot to see if he does have a mature body available? He didn't have any male bodies listed when I ordered my Sprite, but had some in stock that weren't listed, and switched them out for me. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

There's plenty of SD dolls with small heads. The Dollmore Zaolls, and the Dollshe molds, which are 70cm if I'm correct.

Hello ^__^ I'm new here. This is my Mei - her name is Camy. She lives with me about 7 months and I really love her

 

What have I done?! I just ordered two new dolls and I wasn't planing on buying another until later this year!

 

Um, can you change your order? I would really, really ask them first. My Angelsdoll girl takes 7-8, true, but her head is very proportionatley small/realistic for an SD (not that I'm complaining.) I've seen pictures of Charisma side-by-side with other BBB dolls and her head was distinctly larger than those - I'd be inclined to think 8-9. But obviously I don't know for sure - I'd email them and ask. (Love Charisma, by the way.) (And forgive me, dolls&tea, if you have a Charisma and are answering from experience...(

I've been looking and looking at MSDs lately. I thought I wanted Planetdoll Riz for my next, but actually I might postpone her a little and get a more traditional looking one, because what I really want, when I search my soul, is just one doll i can put in ringlets and lolita clothes. Not anime styled, but more neutral than most dolls I go for. Wishlist narrowed to Iplehouse Amy (who would take some saving, but...), Island Doll's Amy, some of the Luts Kid Delfs - adore one of Dollcatch's girls, but frankly I'm risking enough qualitywise having two half-price CH tinies on order without adding one ffrom their even less reliable sister.

I keep coming back to Espree. She's sweet and pretty and I know I'll love her - body posablility isn't a big deal to me, Jin's lovely body is wasted on me. But I already have a Sprite. She's a blue Sprite on an immature body, and I'd be getting a NS Espree on a mature body and doing something entirely different with her, but even so... I have limited dolls, it seems silly to get the same sculpt twice.

But! She's so cute, she'd work for what I want, price really *is* a factor as the less I spend the closer I'll be to my next doll (I have no problem admitting this) and, unlike the Dollcatch doll, I know she'll be beautifully sanded and fninshed with no bubbles, pits or resin chunks.

Any thoughts?

 

Omnimbus, Welcome to the thread (and DoA!) Your Mai is really beautiful! If I may bring up one of the DoA rules that kinda permiate through the forum, just so you know, on most of the threads here, they want us to post only one picture per post and then link to a gallery thread (that you would start) or some popular threads have a corisponding photo thread here in the discussion forums (I thought BBB/RS had one of those but now I can't find it???) HOWEVER, I don't think this is enforced strongly in this thread But seeing as how you're new, I thought I'd bring it up (hopefully nicely - I don't want to sound like the police, LOL) 'cause often someone brings this up, and it sounds like they're barking at you, and it can feel realy like we're being Nazis, LOL. I don't want that to happen to you especially if you also have Minifees, that thread is heavily policed So if it happens to you, please don't let it hurt your feelings ::Hugs:: Really, your Mai is gorgeous, I'd love to see more "picture spam" BTW, I think we break this rule on this thread alot, so don't worry!!!

Autumnrain, I gotta say, I would love a second sprite or Ariel or Espree (sister molds) as my daughter's Sprite is just gorgeous! I love her. I don't care about second look alike molds, I have twin Brackens from Sleeping Elf because there are no other males around (except Banji males, which I would get more of if I weren't broke, LOL. I dunno, I just don't see a conflict in having the same mold multiple times, in fact I think Shuga-shug liked her ... Ariel? so much, she immediately got a twin for her

 

Welcome to DoA Omnimbus! I knew I recognized that doll from somewhere--I frequent BBB's forum too.

No hope! No hope, IngieBee! I ordered a blue Ju and a blue Garden of Dolls elf Nabiya. I'm going to put the Ju head on Nabiya's body to keep for myself, and sell the other hybrid (Nabiya head on RS body). I checked with both companies and it would cost me $60 more to buy the head and body separately than it would to buy both dolls and sell one. I'm dollifying this character. Ju's ears are perfect for my Tempest, but the RS body is a bit too slender and well endowed. The BBB body wasn't ideal either....one bust option too small, one is too large, and I don't like their thick wrists and ankles or 3 part body. Nabiya's sculptor fixed all of these issues and added possibility with double joints in both elbows and knees. And since BBB casts her dolls, I know the colors will match perfectly!

Welcome, Omnimbus. It's so nice to have you here with us. Your Mei, Camy, is gorgeous! Everything about her is just stunning and lovely.

autumnrain, I don't see any problem with getting an Espree in addition to the Sprite you already have. The skin colors would be completely different...ears also. Clothing and wigs would be completely different too. I have an Espree myself and the thing I like best about the Espree/Sprite/Ariel sculpts is that they are so pretty, yet at the same time very neutral looking. That means that you can turn them into pretty much any artistic vision you have. They're very much like blank canvases really. Their sculpted features are pleasant rather than strongly individual, so what you do with the faceup, eyes, eyelashes, wig, etc. makes their look more than the sculpt does.

Raesha, that's a fascinating project! I can't wait to see your Tempest once you've put her all together. Her artwork is fabulous and she's sure to be wonderful once she's completed. Now I understand why you needed to buy two more dolls...it all makes perfect sense!

And now I feel...semi-ashamed of myself! I put off my An for a bit...to order two of the 27cm girls, Isabella...to be twins...You all will likely see a FEW pictures of them in here...as they are the half sisters of my Espree, Shikyo! Which means I have swap gifts to finish, shoes to finish, and then a wig for Shikyo to finish (it's been half done for MONTHS now!) and at least one outfit to MAKE for Shikyo...another 2 Liv doll wigs to buy, and another 2 Liv doll outfits to buy for the incoming girls so that they can have some happy family pictures done once the girls get here...and they're on order from JS...so they should get here fast. Add them to the Bei I have on order through Featherfall...and well...I've fallen for yet another size from BBB/RS! lol. And An will have to wait until I save up enough for him...the 'get it NOW' of the girls outweighed the 'have to wait for ANOTHER ONE' of the An.

Ahem...so...yes...2 of the same or similar sculpts is NOT a bad thing! Especially if you like having siblings about the house.

 

i think siblings are a great idea - i should really get some one a brother or sister some day, cause none of my kids are related to any one yet.... Ive had my eye on RS/BBB Bao for a while ...

 

Camy is so pretty! And yes Ingie, I loved my Tegan so much that I put another BBB Espree to be her twin sister! LOL - I just love the Espree mold, she's such a cute one!

Ingie - can we just create a new photo thread for BBB's in this section? I looked & couldn't find one either...

 

Hee, it's kind of encouraging that other people love the sculpt enough to double up. I just feel so guilty... wish list a thousand dolls long, but I'm intending to buy a second Isabella and a second Sprite/Ariel/Espree sculpt... I catch myself wondering if i'm just being cowardly and falling back on something risk-free, because I know I love it.

That's exactly why I'm postponing Riz, I think - I want something with a less strong inherent personaility first, so I can impose on her more.

 

Well, there's nothing wrong with going with what you know you love, anymore than there is with trying something new. Just ask Snow. She had...3? Ju dolls at one point. Eventually she sold 2 of them, and only kept Deneve. So the WORST possible outcome either way, is that you decide it's not working and sell the new doll to put the money towards a different one. I have my twins coming, not just because I love the sculpt, but because they were always MEANT to be twins. There is SOME apprehension, as I've never SEEN Isabella in person before, that I might not like he sculpt as much as I think I will. The same with my incoming Bei. And it was the same for my Espree when she was on order, too. The only thing I intend to change with my Espree is her body. I want Shikyo to have the RS body instead of the BBB one. BUT...the BBB body will be going to another character of mine, Carla, who is meant to be more heavy-set than my other characters, and I think the BBB body is as close to perfect for her as I'll get without having to take a chubby child-like MSD and add breasts to it. So while the body doesn't fit the character it was meant to be, it WILL still fit another character perfectly. ^-^

 

I love my Espree boy. Sure, he doesn't pose as well as others, but since he's a scholar he just has to sit around and look pretty anyway. ^___^

 

Another vote for getting two of the same sculpt here. I have a Ju on order now and am planning on getting a second Ju as my next doll (for a completely different character...I just need those long ears!). If I love the Nabiya body I'm waiting on as much as I think I will, I'll be getting a second one of those for her too so the dolls will end up being identical (except for color--one blue, one grey).

Nothing wrong with multiples! I don't have any myself (yet... lol) but the BBB and RS dolls are just so gorgeous that I'm sure it will happen one day! I have to admit that I tend to be a little nervous about buying from other companies since with the exception of my Orient Doll I've ended up selling them (It will be interesting to see if the same happens with the CH dolls I've ordered). With any luck I'll hear something about the jobs I've been applying for soon and can then get a boy Ariel (in dark tan?).

 

A newbie question (sorry!) - if I get Espree with Mei's body is she going to look OK? I mean is the head not going to look out of proportions? Also on the Bobobie's website - does immature girl body means Mei's body? I'm a bit confused...

 

immature means flatish chested (little girl bumps) and mature means big busted! as for th Mei/Espree thing, ive wondered that myself sooo I dont really know ...

 

Depending on the faceup and wig, Espree would look fine on an immature body (can you get Mei in a mature body?). When I first got my Espree she had the factory faceup and a wig that made her look pretty young, so a more immature body would be fine. But I wanted her to look more mature since she has, um, large... tracts of land. With her faceup and wig now, she wouldn't look right on an immature body.

I know many people have actually switched out the heads, but here, from a quick search, is a comparison someone did, and I know I've seen others. Try the gallery thread for photo requests I think it looks fine, because I put my Minifee head on a RS body, which isn't much larger than a minifee's especially the shoulder width, but the heads are very similar in size (MNF has a larger wig size, but that's due to her bulbous head, face is similar) So I think it looks fine. Just my opinion though...

I'm more shocked by how thin the RS arm is to a Volks MSD than the bad matches.

Volks are heavy. I don't like that quality much.

 

OK...I KNOW I've posted pictures of my girls, nude and wigless, with their heads switched...One is an Espree, the other a Mei, both on their companies mature bodies (Espree on the BBB mature female, and Mei on the RS body, which IS mature) But I guess I'll post 1-2 of those photos again. ^-^ Mostly 'cause I do not want to go find and link to the specific post again. *is lazy tonight*


Mei is my NS girl with the two piece torso. Espree is the LT girl with the 3 piece torso. It is pretty obvious in this photo that I've swapped boddies/heads as there is NO way the resin colors match. lol


And that is the best shot I've got of Espree on the Mei body. Personally, I like how it looks, and intend to change my Espree TO a LT RS body when I can, and use the BBB body for a different character when I can afford her head.

 

HM... well guys... just as an update, I've decided to wait a little while before making my troll gal. I just can't make a decision in time to get the doll for my birthday, and I'd rather not rush into it. :3 So, that project is taking a backseat for a little while, but it's not going to be forgotten! ;D

 

Hehe! I'm not really shocked at it. Ju's RS body is a "slim mini" anyways, and Nasia's body is the immature chunky-monkey variety. I can get pics if needed, I'll be doing some body comparison shots t'morrow for some other dolls, anyways.

 

Oh, that would be very cool. I handled a Volks Toppi at the last meet, and was surprised by how thick and weighty she was. I'm so used to slim and smaller dolls!

 

Mei is a ResinSoul doll, so she comes with their body--this one. The RS body only has one chest size (it is fairly large chested). The Bobobie body is available is both mature and immature options. The immature body is more suited to a younger character.

As for the proportions looking okay, that's just a matter of personal preference, I guess. Personally, I like more realistic proportions so I don't really care for Espree's larger head on RS's slimmer body.

 

Yah, and Lan has the best head size for a realistic proportioned look. Could you spam us more with your girl? She's so pretty!!

It looks like I'm going to have a problem. I like Mei's body and I like Espree's head, but not together... the proportions don't look quite right. I wish Mei's body were a bit bigger. Lan is great but I just have to have Espree!

 

The BBB body may be chunkier than the RS body, and the hands are not terribly elegant, but it poses really well. I really like the different sizes too with my 3 dolls (soon to be another size JID girl with us too) as it makes them more like real people, a real group of friends of differing body types (wish there were more skin color variation. I'll be working on that next... LOL. So really , it's not all negative with the BBB body!

 

Esprees body really isn't all that bad. I personally think it looks kind of womanly and rounded without being chunky. And I'm always surprised at meet at just how tiny she looks compared to a lot of dolls from other companies. And even though it's an old photo I like it so much that I'm going to post it... Niva, my Espree.

 

DOC Mature T. Zen, BBB/RS Ju, Volks Nasia. Doing these pics made me realize that my poor T. Zen's torso has yellowed. lol~

I like both so it's hard to decide which one I should get. This thread is really helpful, if only I had time to read it all. I started 3 days ago but there are so many pages! So I end up going to bed too late and then I'm half asleep at work But it's worth it.

 

So the Mei comes with the three-part-torso body from ResinSoul even if bought from Bobobie? That's good coz I prefer that one to the Bobobie body. It just looks nicer.

pbrennan42, I know it's confusing But Mai is a ResinSoul doll, and will always come on the slimmer two piece body unless you ask for the 3 piece body (which they'll happily do for you)

So ResinSoul is skinnier, 2 piece body with more elegant body lines
Bobobie is huskier 3 piece body with double jointed knees and 3 piece torso

Bobobie (Dennis) manufactures all of them, and will sell both types, ResinSoul only sells their dolls on their site So that's a good way to tell what is what (exclude what RS is NOT selling to figure out what belongs to BBB)

 

Yeah I am beginning to figure out their measurements and I have several 1/4 sizes that I don't have them listed for because they are just not mentioned.

I have a text file with all the Bobobie doll measurements I could find with a load just listed as "unknown". Once I figure out what bodies they are using (already snipping your info) I will fill out the gaps and then somehow make the relevant Google Docs public (if I can figure out how to do that).

Well, JunkySpot now offers BBB heads on the RS body, and after asking, my Bei (one of RS's tinies) was sent to me on BBB's tiny doll body. I've even seen a Weylin head on Gang's body.

 

It looked to me like the RS tinies are all on the BBB bodies (M and F) and are just with their own head styles?? Least that's what it looked like when I last looked at them on the RS sight...??

pbrennan42, I'm sure they'll do that for you no problem!

Did someone mention that they put hot glue in the wrist of their BBB hands sockets, causing them to protrude out more, and making them look less... odd? I'm thinking of doing this as I don't have a problem with their hands, just that they seem to be too deep inside the socket? I know someone, sorry can't remember, said they were going to try sculpting the wrists a bit too. I'd love to see how that turns / turned out! So don't forget to post!

 

To IngieBee - Nope, RS and BBB tinies girls use a different bodies. Isabella and March are slightly taller, have a small bust, and jazzy hands. I wanted a Bei, but liked that body better.

 

Oh, I'm thinking of the 14cm teeny tinies, LOL I have to look at that size from RS, I'm not familiar

 

Actually, the three-part torso is the Bobobie one. She'll only come with it, on special request and from Bobobie or a reseller that swaps them. The RS body is the shorter two-part one.

One of these days maybe I'll end up with a female body from them... I think my Ju will be on the RS male body though. Maybe if I start saving for him now, I'll be ready once I actually faceup and "finish" the five blank dolls I Have here and one coming in... >.>
