Bobobie and Resinsoul mini discussion Part 5

Apr 3, 2010

    1. I just recently go my RS Mei and I am having one heck of time trying to find shoes that I like. I've gone through the whole what will fit, what won't fit thread but none of those sites have anything really appealling. Does anyone have any advice?

    2. I've got most of my mini girls in Dale Raes.

    3. I find boots tend to be a good choice because you can get away with them being a little too big and not effect how the doll stands up. :)

    4. More Dione! :)

    5. your welcome. i thought it might be helpful. the funny thing is i think those are normal sd pants... i could be wrong though. :)

    6. Penguin-chan, those photos are wonderful...I love your boy's style and those red beads just pop!:)

Tiazara, I'm really loving your Dione! I love what you've done with colors in her styling...so magical and unique.:D

rubyred990, I echo what karla-chan said about boots. Also, if you keep her foot measurements in mind, many doll companies list the exact measurements of their shoes so you can search for things you like that might fit. Ebay is another good source for doll shoes...just make sure to check the measurements listed in the individual ads.;)

    7. @ Tiazara - Ohhhhhhh!!! I love Dione's eyes and faceup!!!!! <3 :3

@ Kittywolf13 - Lol, normal sd pants? Well they are very nice on her. So I'm glad they fit. :D

@ PoeticSoul - Thank you. <3 And I personally like the red beads for popping too. x]

    8. rubyred990- Dollzone and Dale Rae fit BBB minis really well.

      Great spam everyone!

    9. PoeticSoul and Penguin-chan, thank you so much again!

Oh, you really like the face up Penguin-chan? It's by me, I know I still need more practise but I haven't done so many yet! ^^

    10. PINK COW How did you dye your doll? Did you unstring the whole thing and then restring her? What type/color dye did you use, how long did you leave the parts in, etc.
I think Li's features would make a good African-American girl, I'd love to dye one and get that nice chocolate color you got.

    11. @cirquemom: I know she mentioned RIT dye dark brown earlier in the thread.

And for all my photostory followers Babysitting Part 2 is complete and I have 2 more that I would like to get together before Xmas and 2 more for next week. I hope to get at least one more posted tonight since it is kinda a continuation of the babysitting one. I lost internet connection last night and wasn't able to get it up and posted.

    12. :cheerHooray! Another photostory by Kitty Blue. It's always such a treat! It's so nice to know we'll also be having more of them to enjoy over the holiday season.:) If anyone doubts the posability of BBB/RS dolls, they ought to see how naturally you're able to pose them in your photostories. Really a tremendous job...you're getting poses in relationship to one another that look almost human.;)

    13. @ poeticsoul:Thank you. lol...sorry have to laugh...yes they can be pretty poseable, most of the time...good thing you don't see the behind the scene photos..lol.. like me reaching for falling dolls a little too late. Hmm maybe that could be another photostory of sorts..."Behind the Scenes of The Resin Family Adventures"...lol

They could definitely use better strings and possible some wiring to make them just a little bit better...the hot glue sueding definitely helped.

One of the stories was supose to take place before Saffron arrived, but I completely forgot about it so I will probably be posting that one tonight and then posting "Trimming the Tree" tomorrow since I will be out of town for Xmas Eve and Christmas. Then hopefully Sunday will be a free day to get a few more photo shoots done for one smaller story and then work on the New Years Eve story. Whew...after the holidays it will probably be back to one or two stories a month, depending on my incoming dolls and such.

    14. Whew...another photostory uploaded, dialogued and ready for your viewing pleasure..lol..After-woods is a short story that was too take place right after Angel in the Woods and before Saffron arrived. Got a little behind in taking photos and editing and stuff. Already uploaded and edited "Trimming the Tree" and will be uploading it onto the forum here tomorrow.
and I just...duh...realized that there is a serialised photostory database that I believe I will posting in with links to all my photostories thus far.

So that it for tonight I'm off to go play WOW now. 3 more days until Xmas! and closer to my two dolls arriving and ordering 2 new dolls...hmmm who shall it be???/

    15. Kitty Blue-

Is that doll I see and your username a reference to SpyFox by any chance? ;o

    16. I'm getting ready to order a coffee Li on Christmas (I'm only 20 bucks away!) and I was curious about what we think of the proper eye size for her is? It says on the website that 14mm is what she should take, but what do you all think she'd look like in 16mm? I'm asking because I have a coupon for SafrinDoll that's about to expire and they are out of 14mm eyes in their acrylics.

    17. Penguin-chan, oh my, Arez is so wonderful! I love him. @.@ Always!

    18. Well you certainly had me fooled because the interactions between them in your photostories look so effortless and natural...but then that's the art of it, I suppose.:) You certainly must have a unique talent for it because I never even imagined such difficulties going on behind the scenes. You do it so darned well, I almost believed the dolls were walking around on their own!

    19. Unless the new heads are way different from the old ones (like my Fei), she can wear 16mm, but they will look very "fantasy" on her because the pupils and irises will be so big.

    20. @nightmare: Spyfox? nope I actually had to just look that up, why is there a blue cat named Kitty Blue in the story? My name and the photo of Kitiblu is a sketched fashion character that I created over 10 yrs ago and have just now started to make them into RS dolls.

@poeticsoul: hmm not sure if I would like to think of my dolls walking around on their own..lol..I take lots of photos of each shot, some don't even make it into the photo stories. So out of 80 photos I get few good photos to tell the story.

My four ResinSoul/Bobobie/Garden of Dolls minis:
Andrei (RS An lt. tan), Pumpkin (BBB Sprite, WS, yellowed to a lovely ivory with RS hands), Lena (RS Rong lt. tan) and Emma (Garden of Dolls Nabiya, lt. tan).
I know Emma doesn't really belong here, but I considered her part of my RS/BBB gang because she is cast by RS and just seems to fit.

And for whoever it was that asked me if Sprite and Rong could look like relatives....
Pumpkin (BBB Sprite) and Lena (RS Rong)

I love the way BBB white yellows to ivory. It's a really nice, warm color. I was never really fond of the paper white, and actually left her in the sun on purpose to help the process along. Much later (she is one of the very first Sprites to come out) I got RS hands for her because I wasn't crazy about the BBB hands. I like these better but they haven't yellowed to match yet.

    22. Thank you! I was just curious~ I like a more 'fantasy' look and with her being a little forgotten ruins explorer girl~ I think that'll be just fine.

CirqueMom; Your crew looks lovely! I love all the tan and the festive outfits. Really adorable.

    23. bulletsBANQ ask me for this... a old body with the new DJ arms...

I think it works very good, with no problem.

I didn't try his legs cause is very late and I'm sleepy right now.
      Hope this pic help.

    24. Question for all of you,
Have any of you given your dolls tattoos? I'm looking to giving Arez a tattoo on the arm/chest maybe, and I'm curious to know if anyone has done this to one of their RS/BBB dolls. Since I'm debating to do this with water color & pastels, or use just one of the tattoo sheets with an assortment of tribal things from a store, opinions?

      Thank you PinkCow! :)

    25. Darjeeli is currently sporting several glow in the dark tattoos that I put on for a Halloween shoot that I never managed to finish. They went on easily and look great! I didn't seal them since it was just supposed to be for Halloween, but they should hold up well if sealed.

    26. like raesha say's... water tattoos stick on well... and drawing them do too. its more of a personal preference. Ive put temp tattoo's on other people's dolls... and somewhere i have one meant for one of my dolls that i never got around to putting it on her. i usually end up just drawing mine.

    27. Well, Project: Thin Out The Collection is well under way. ;) Rosemary has found a new home, as has my Jun head, and now I'm kind of scrutinizing who's left. I wonder if my dolls ever feel like they're on Survivor... XD I think I'm really leaning toward mostly boys now (with a few female exceptions!). I never thought that would happen!

    28. @kittywolf13: I think Sillvie looks cute in the red/burgundy wig in your flikr album, seems like a close color to her twin, but just enough to be different.

Hmm...tattoo's thats really cool that you can put temp ones on a doll and they come out so clear...I'm assuming you put them on the same way as you put them on yourself?? Do you spray it first before placing the temp tat on?

    29. Penguin-chan: I do the tattoos with watercolor pencil, but you may use watercolor, pastels or other medium that you feel confident with; the temporary tattoo may look good too, just apply a few MSC layers to make it durable and to get off that shiny look.

    30. yeah i did like the small flip, but it is really tiny on her head. i also worried that it might be make her look too spunky... id like her to be more serene. but we shall see. :)

also i would seal the doll before hand just in case but otherwise it does go on the same way. :)

    31. @ Raesha - Ohhhh. I am liking your glow in the dark tattoo. :)

@ Kittywolf - Soo many options, on what to do for a tattoo. At least I know it isn't bad for the doll. :] And hello Cora and Sillvie!!!! :D

@ vevet - Thank you for the information, I'll be sure to do something soon with Arez! :)

    32. hmmm...I think I need to get better watercolor pencils...mine barely leave a mark on the doll??? let alone be good for a tattoo...must be poor quality pencils or something that I have :(

Well as I promised I just finished uploading my holiday story Trimming the Tree ! Now to get finished at work here so that I can hopefully get out early and get some holiday shopping done.

    33. Nope. The worse that happens is that it doesn't stick correctly and it gets sticky or wrinkles. Then you can just wipe it off with some rubbing alchol. Should tKe care of it super quick.

    34. It could be the dolls texture too. Bbb is very smooth. I had that problem with my rml doll. I ended up useing volks powder spray. It has a lot more texture and even my cheap pencils stick better. I find soft pencils work better. If not try dipping the tip in water, rubbing the excess off and try that. Then it works more like paint. :)

    35. I really need to do Sebby's tattoos.. I'm still trying to figure them out... and I'm just awful when it comes to abstract things. I like know what I want, but I just can't get it to come out right...

    36. It's always fascinating to me how our collections grow and change over time. But it makes perfect sense really, considering it's largely a creative endeavor. Those of us who are very creative and utilize our dolls as blank canvases are naturally going to find the need to tweak and refine our collection until we reach our ultimate artistic vision. As with any artform, a lot of it is trial and error...and with any collection, you are always seeking that perfect balance of dolls that will best tell your own personal story. With me, it wasn't a male/female balance thing...it was a size issue thing (which I resolved by selling off all my SDs, and downsizing to MSDs and smaller.)

*waves* Hi Cora and Sillvie! (Lovin' those names, btw!) They're both so lovely, and I really envy you having two wonderful Ariels! I love that particular sculpt but alas, Ijust couldn't find a justification for one in my own limited little crew.:( (Same as with the gorgeous Ju sculpt, which I also love.):doh

    37. cirquemom, what wonderful holiday photos of your crew...they look so delightfully festive and their holiday outfits are truly adorable! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.:)

vevet, those photos are absolutely fantastic! I'm sure they will be extremely helpful to others who are wanting to find unique body solutions for their boys. I was really surprised how wonderful the DJ arms look on the older SJ body. That opens up all kinds of wonderful possibilities!

Kitty Blue, oh boy! I'm off to read the latest installment of your photostories.:D

    38. Hey there everybody just thought I would stop by and do a bit of spammage with Thurin :)
This was her first time outside and I really liked this picture

    39. PoeticSoul: You're welcome... I will try to change his legs too... (I'm kind of lazy those days :( )
I LOVE the old body, but maybe if that old body have those DJ arms... that would be better, as I said... the only part that I still not very happy with from the new DJ body is his legs.

    40. That photo is great! It looks painted, to me, and I love that feel in a photo!

It's great to see the DJ arms on the SJ body! Hmmm...my current boys might just get a limb upgrade...but then what to do with the OLD limbs? Dunno there. Heh. Experiments maybe? And it's nice to see how well they fit, so that future dolls that need the SJ torso and hip piece can have the DJ limbs, too. I do so LOVE the ability to mix and match any parts you want through RS and BBB, really. They might say 'those parts won't work together' as a warning, but are willing to sell them that way anyway!

    41. i want a Ju too! LOL

    42. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you!! 8D Thanks for taking the time for doing it for me! It's really appreciated!

I also asked Sun if it were possible to put old body's leg+arms on new body, and the answer was yes! But it was better seeing Vevet's pictures!

    43. PoeticSoul, you're so right! I really think my doll collection is going to be fluid forever. I can't imagine ever feeling completely, 100% satisfied with it. I think that's where I, personally, get the most enjoyment out of this hobby, actually!

    44. Kittywolf~ *pipes up* while you're stringing and unstringing, I'm curious if the Double jointed Elbows fit in the old elbows... or how closely they come to fitting.

    45. Hooray! I get to open my RS Ju tonight. :XD: Her custom urethane eyes should arrive today, too. I'd love to have those on hand for her box opening. :D

Raesha: Your girl looks so gorgeous in that pic!

Your crew is beautiful, cirquemom! :)

    46. Ju is beautiful in green!!

    47. Loving all the spam :)

cirquemom your crew is just gorgeous!

and Kittywolf13 Cora & Sillvie are beautiful! I was eyeing your Cora on the MP lol, making a silent plea that someone would snatch her up before I became overwhelmed with tempation.

Kitty Blue I have been enjoying all of your photo stories...such a cute cast of characters.

Your girl Thurin is just lovely Alexxkiah

Vevet is that a Song in the arm comparison photos? I love his face and eyes :aheartbea

Ugh...I can't resist the RS dolls! Looks like I'm trading my floating Mei head for a tan Song head. I didn't want any more floating heads, but I've been wanting a tan Song, so it seemed meant to be. Of course, I know there is NO chance of letting him be a floating head for long, I will have to get him a body :doh

    48. Random: I think I may need to add a Song boy to my ever-growing wishlist.

Hehe, I think so too... but I'm biased! :XD:

    49. Oh congrats on getting your Ju PeppermintPocky. I look forwards to see what you do with her.
