Ok after several hours I have the photos of the box opening up...sorry no video yet, still trying to figure out how to cut it down to 10mins...sigh...So here we go a few sneak peaks...see the full story at the link below.

So yay...Tacmota came with yellow eyes and Kitiblu had blue, so I was able to switch them. You can see them all in the photos I put up in the gallery. Now I'm off to bed.

Congratulations on your new arrivals, Kitty Blue! Wow! That new sky blue is fantastic...what a gorgeous color!

 

I would really like an Orange resin too, because i have a D&D character who would make a great doll if i could get the orange resin. BBB/RS do red though which does look pretty good, but i don't know if it will be good enough compared to the image you have in your head. But it is worth taking a nosy if you end up too unsure about dying.

And yes that is the part that worries me too, the fact there is no perfect way.

You could try looking for a cheap doll on the market place and try it out on that? Then it is not as bad if it goes wrong.

XD The only problem I have when taking pictures is that a dozen people always come over to ask 'what are you doing?' while I'm posing dolls, and it always happens when I'm doing something tricky with water or up high. XD

 

I never really have trouble, but mind you in Manchester they are used to all sorts and assume i am some sort of art student or something. I mean for example the last shoot i had not far away from me was a man dressed as a horse and a bunch of kids/teens in cosplay. And this kind of thing happens all the time. So no one really cares.

 

lol..people ask the silliest things like your taking photos of a doll, what do you mean what am I doing, pretty obvious..lol
Its like when people see my spotted tattoos (cheetah spots) and they say "hey is that a tattoo?", followed by "did it hurt?" My response of course would be...huh? oh you mean my spots, no those are birthmarks and didn't hurt at all it kinda tickled..hehe

Ok so I tightened her strings a little and got her to sit upright (briefly), though she doesn't look so pretty, will definetly have to keep working on that.

 

oh ya..duh..thanks for all the kind words, I really love my dolls and they are going to make the best couple. Yes I may consider trying a less expensive doll and see how the dying works, but would the results come out the same on a different company if they use a different kind of resin?

 

The results would definitely be different with a different companies resin, because not all resin is the same. The 'recipe' will be different, as well as the colourants they use for NS or tan or WS.

Yeah I get a lot of questions because I have really.... Unique hair. XD Its usually more than one colour, and not a one is natural. So I was surprised when they were more interested in the dolls. XD Usually is 'Why did you do that to your hair?' XD At twenty-five years and still growing you'd think people would have figured it out.

 

I get the exact same thing about my hair .___.;; "You're so pretty, why do you have such ugly hair?" is something I have been told, on a regular basis. (I just have to defend my hair quickly. I generally have a sort of crazy styling going on and it's normally a few different colours ;w; I like it! So do people in Camden!) Then they want to know about why I'm covered in black henna (my best friend works at a henna hut and likes to practice on me!) because it looks 'nasty' and then why I'm dressed a funny way. The dolls usually get no attention! P:

KittyBlue, I'm pretty sure it'd have a different effect, but if I'm dying a doll anyway I'm not going to choose one from an expensive company, so I'd probably have no trouble finding a cheaper version of that doll somewhere like karla-chan said.

karla-chan- Actually, the RS red isn't too bad, thing is he'd probably be getting airbrushed on top of any dying, so I guess I could try that out~

 

Hanaki: Why not start with the red and overdye it yellow? Easier to get a more even color, eh?

 

It depends how you want it really. I like the red, but it doesn't match what i want, it does for plenty of other things. Like if i had a tiefling (which is a devil race in D&D) i would so used the red. I thought it was worth suggesting the red.

 

Kitty Blue: It takes a little to figure out how to get the new body to sit, stay sitting, and look good while sitting...Took me AGES on my girl with the new body, anyway. I DID find, however, that hot glue sueding the hip socket, the 'popping' the legs out of place, so they sit more 'flat' to a surface, with the body leaning more forward helps...Then half the ball part of the joint is out of the socket, and stays that way because of the extra friction from the sueding. I hope that makes sense...if you want, I'll take some time next week (I HAVE to get a swap outfit finished and in the mail before I go off taking photos again!) to show what I'm talking about, and how I get her to sit.

On the note of orange resin...I'd LOVE IT if BBB and RS would do an orange resin! I would SO do a fire Fae or an Autumn Fae with it if they did, depending on the shade! Maybe even a flower based Fae. Heh.

 

Yeh, I totally have trouble getting my girl to sit too... She's gotten better. It just took a while.


Edit: I was also wondering... If I put a picture of a character concept up would someone help me figure out what rs/bbb girl (or heck, a guy head for all I care) would look best for that character..... My boyfriend is being no help...

 

Hmm I do get strange looks from time to time when out with one of my dolls but actually most people don't even bat their eyes A lot of times people compliment me on Riona, saying she's so pretty! I've had a lady come up to me once asking what I was doing (taking pictures, duh xD ) and whether it was for something specific, like a newspaper. Ooh and also fun was the one time I was in a shoe store while carrying Riona on my arm. One of the salesladies came up to me and said how pretty Riona was, and she asked "She's an elf, right?" After which she turned around to the other saleslady and said something along the lines of "It's a pretty elf, you know, like the ones from the Lord of the Rings?"

Mirrin, that sounds like fun, actually I'd be willing to help with that!

 

Most people are nice to me, but i did once get asked was my girl a vampire! They where being nice, but i really hate vampires (so does the character the doll is based on) i get some people asking me where i got them because they like them so much.

Hanaki - XD Whoo for the crazy-hair-club! I went from three feet of hair to..... About a foot in the front, and it angles up to the back which is about 1 - 1 1/2 inch long. XD There's a three inch section on each side of my face which is purple (fading out so it's sort of green now...) and the rest is this particular shade of red. XD So i get lots of hair comments.

But I live in a small town in the midwest, so people are really critical if you aren't dressing like a 'normal' person. XD And then I carry at least 1-2 of my dolls around with me all the time, so people REALLY stare. XD But at least my chinese ladies like 'em! They always ask if I have any new ones or if I have one with me. XD

 

regarding hair...yep people don't seem to realize it is 2010..lol..I also went from hip length hair to probably 1-5 inches all around and then I proceeded to dye it a lovely shade of emerald green with the longer front/side pieces cotton candy pink..after that it went to red all over with the pink changed to purple. Now it is just plain blonde, I work in an office and can't do anything "funky". I am so jealous of you guys, I want to be me, but have to conform for the time being.

Hot glue sueding, I would love to see some kind of demo on that, I am very afraid at this point to do much with my dolls, I don't want to injury them in anyway. I switch there eyes and tightened the exsisting strings, but am terrified of completely taking it apart and restringing it. One step at a time.

 

One word: Extensions! Or make your own dread wiglet.

 

Hot glue sueding is incredibly easy. both my girls are. I didn't do it the traditional way, where they want you to put a glob and smear it with a paper, or something. I just squeeze a little in the joint (took them apart first, of course) and then i just rub the tip of the glue gun around to spread it. It has worked great for me. ^-^

 

Yeah. Kitty Blue, I've had people aske me that too. Actually they asked me this past Monday when I was out. There I was, lying across a rock not a foot away from a raging river, trying to set Spock up so he won't fall backwards into the water and two girls call down from the bridge asking me what I'm doing. I looked up at them with Spock in one hand and my camera in the other and raised an eyebrow. Although usually I get the same reaction that Mittebam gets. People just give me strange looks or come over and ask questions about the dolls.

I have gotten into the bad habbit of saying that it's for school when I'm out by myself taking pictures though. For some reason people get really mean to me about the hobby if I'm by myself. If I'm with my other two friends, people ae usually fairly nice (Probably because Sirius53Black can be a little intimadating and I don't think anyone wants to tick her off), but when I'm buy myself, it's just easier to say it's for school and people then leave me alone to do my thing.

As to the hot-glue sueding subject, don't be too scared to try it if you haven't. Sirius did Spock for me when we re-strung him and I've been thinking of doing him again and maybe sueding Kirk while I'm at it. It's very easy to do and it really does help with poses. Spock keeps his stance much better with the sueding then he did without and I'm sure Kirk will be the same. Which will be great cause his chest-joint annoies me in how it shifts from side to side all the time

 

Aw, thanks so much. I did an sketch of my idea... I'm litterally open to any mold that could possibly work... I have no idea... She was the fist doll I wanted to do, but I couldn't figure out what mold and gave up....

 

She looks a lot like the new DollZone SD girls, especially Stramonium. http://www.doll-zone.com/pro_detail.asp?id=744 DZ does tan skin, too. Totally off topic in this thread though.

Actually, if your looking for a particular sculpt to match a concept of yours, opening up a thread on it in the requests forum can usually get you some great ideas.

 

Mai has small slanty eyes and fairly plump lips. He may be a bit too gentle and smiley for you though... You could probably paint him to look more smirky though, I'm sure.


RE: glue sueding--I don't even unstring them. I just bend the limb back and hold with one hand while I use the tip of the glue gun to smear a thin layer of glue all over. Hold for 20 seconds while it cools/dries, and voila!

Warning some doll nudity of course...they did just come out of a box ya know. Don't mind the silly commentary and sound effects of my wonderful camera man Mr. Mustachio (my BF). Video is a little jumping in spots, new video camera so he hasn't quite got the hang of zooming...sound gets a little low for some reason towards the end of the 1st video. Ok I'm done rambling. Mirrin: Nice sketch! Hmm if I were choosing BBB or RS for your girl...I think Lian is nice(although she has elf ears), Mai (as Raesha said) or maybe Luna from BBB? I'm not too familiar with many of the other companies, but agreed good call on the dollzone.
I'll have to scan my illustrations of the cat girl and boy so I can show ya what I have in mind for Kitiblu and Tacmota.

Kitty Blue - so far I've seen your boy's box opening. The boxes seem quite small - I remember being surprised at the size of my SD boy's box. Somehow I imagined it being bigger! Anyway your doll is lovely. Haven't seen the blue doll's opening yet.

 

Heh, hot-glue sueding is easy as pie. Don't be afraid to try it!
A tip, though: don't do it in a garage where two cats live. You will get cat fur in your doll's joints.

Mirrin, I love the concept sketch! A dread wig on her would be gorgeous~ I'll be no help with sculpts, though

 

Be sure to check out Part 2) They just fit in there carrying cases, they are small 43/44cm, but they are cute. I thought both cases were in the one box, thats why I was suprised in the video saying hey 2 boxes..lol..

I am definitely going to bond with my girl, my boy I'm a little uncertain, I think it is because of his color I may have to just jump the gun and try the dyeing or see if there is someone local that has tried it yet.

 

Kitty Blue - yes, I saw the second one and she's a lovely colour. Hope you bond with your boy too. He looks lovely to me.

 

Ellanie: Aw, she's beautiful.. I like her very much, but I want to just stick to RS/BBB... Which is the reason I only asked you all. I don't really want to hear about all the pretty dolls I shouldn't spend all that money on!

Raesha and Kitty Blue:You know... Mai might be a great choice... Hm.. Does Mai's head look good on a girl's body, though? I don't know if I've ever seen Mai as a girl!
This doll would definatly be getting a cutom face up, so I bet the smirkiness could be done.

The ears aren't a big deal. The real Letty doesn't have sheepy ears, but the face was right with Rong so I went with it!

Hanaki, Karla-chan, and Mirren: Thanks... I actually think I want a dread ponytail.. I just drew it like that to show what I do want the dreads to look like.... It's gonna be a serious pain to get that hair... I'll probably have to commission a wig, I think. And that's mainly the reason I'm starting now... My birthday is the last day of October... and I'd like to have everything all together by then!
I'm glad everyone likes the sketch, it's pretty awful as far as my drawings go because I was rushing..

 

If it's budget and size, Impldoll Sissy is another good option, I think. She's a MSD under $200. I was kind of flabbergasted with myself when I fell for DZ Tulip, the sister sculpt of sorts to Stramonium, since she's about $250 more than I ever thought that I would spend on a doll and a big girl.

But I agree that Mai is very much the best option out of the RS/BBB grouping of dolls. I haven't seen it done with Mai, but I have seen a Jun girl. She was bit bobble-headed on the single-jointed girl body, but only a bit. She'd look much better on the new body.

Ayas-Shadow - That's actually not as disturbing as I thought it'd be. I've always though that the Mai mold is a little girly looking. People are always mistaking Spock as a girl...though for some reason people think Kirk is a girl more than Spock, which frankly I don't get cause he's a muscular A-line MNF *shrugs* But yeah, I actually kinda like the look of the Mai head on the Rong body...now we've just gotta wait for the DJ boy body *sigh*

 

Yes the Mai head does look wonderful on the Rong body...I always thought the An head looked a little girly from the pic on RS website, but he looks more masculine on BBB site. I wonder how he would look on the Rong body, I'm thinking ahead for my future dolls. I have a huge wishlist of all RS dolls. I want a Iruhi boy in grey, Lan in pink, Mei in white, Rong in green...still deciding on my other 2 girls one is going to be red and the other would love to have a saffron kinda color but will probably have to dye one. Then there is the larger RS off topic in this thread Ai body/Dan head in white or blue, and Gang body/maybe Mu head in lilac. Hehe, just started this BJD hobby and already have it all planned out. I love RS!!!! Now to nonchalantly slip the list to my BF ;o)

I understand your pain. I've been into this since March and I currently have two dolls with at least four more planned. I know their characters, what dolls I'm getting for them, their eyes, their hair, the clothes there gonna wear, what I'm gonna have to commission for them and who I'm gonna commission...it's insane, but I love it!

 

If you like, I can put Carla's head (RS An in LT) on Shikyo's body (RS Rong in LT) in the next few days for you. I should be doing a few posts Monday anyway with requested photos for people (some would post today...but I HAVE to wait for my giftee in a swap to get the outfit I made before I post photos I took of Casspian modeling it with 2 of my girls! 27cm dollies...so OT here, though. Heh) so while I'd have to TAKE the photos for you, I would really just be adding them to my 'post on Monday' list.

 

Oh...and while my Mai is male..and the second Mai I get will ALSO be male...Mai and An make great girls! *has a male and a female An*

I got my girls a new pet~ And he arrived today! New eyes came today too... although I dont think Aki likes them... Maybe when my second eye order comes in something will work. ^-^ Also tried a new wig on Wynter, but its not "her".

Mirrin, that's a cool sketch! I agree with Raesha, from all the Resinsoul/bobobie mini's Mai is the closest to your drawing, but he'll probabely need some modding or at least a custom face-up. Love the dread-idea!
She does indeed look a lot like DollZone's Stramonium as Ellanie already mentioned.

Their new kitty is a Camellia Dynasty, Wong. If you get him, i suggest getting him unpainted, since he comes in an egg... yup, a resin egg... (My opening of him shows it) he WILL get his paint chipped off. I haven't heard from anyone who says theirs wasn't scratched. :3 I love him so much and he is a really good scale for any size doll. ^-^

 

OMG, they're so cute...damn it, now I want one! I've been looking to see if I could get a BJD kitty for Spock (there's only so much I can do with the mag one he has now, and these are just perfect. *sigh* More money I don't have...

 

chiisaichi: Your girls looks lovely as ever and... omgfzzomg! That kitty is sooooo cute! I love that you can get them with wings and whatnot. I totally want one with wings because I grew up on the book Catwings [by Ursula K. Leguin, a story about cats that have wings... go figure].

Thank you SO MUCH for the info! He's just PERFECT! As soon as I can afford one I'm ordering. This one...trumps my other dolly plans in importance to me. Especially when I've now found a kitty that is perfect, more kitty than anthro, and more in my price range (first choice was a Nobility doll Taro, who is twice the cost, more anthro, and does not have a wings option). I'll be getting mine with both white angel, and demon wings. Because my 'Fei has one or the other now. I've wanted a kitty doll for a year to customize into a version of my kitty who died last year in June. And this one is just...PERFECT! And being able to get him with wings is even better. I'll get him blank and paint him myself to make him into my dearly loved 'Fei kitty. And...he will likely be inherited in dolly form by one of my dolls...Possibly Carla. Or else Nikki (who is from Carla's storyline, but will be an Impledoll mini sized doll). MAYBE Shinkyo...never thought of her having a pet, heh. So yeah...thank you SO MUCH! You have helped me find the perfect resin fur-baby to represent the best kitty I ever owned. Even if he HATED strangers, wouldn't let people near me, and did NOT get on with anyone I dated after I broke up with them...or my kids. He was a 1 girl kitty, not a family cat, but I still miss him terribly. Again...thank you for posting random spam with yours in it, and giving the info I needed to find him to get one myself!

 

He is really cute...a little out of my price range that's half the cost of the next doll I want to get..sigh..I'll have to stick with the fuzzy little stuffed animals for now.

So I kinda tightened up my dolls, they both stand rather well now. Kitiblu still doesn't sit up with her legs together, unless I put her arms to her side or back to assist. I was goofing around with a bunch of old My Scene Barbie Boy clothes today and to my suprise...tada...they actually fit my dolls. The one Kitiblu is wearing wasn't as stretch as Tacmota's. The only problem of course is sleeve length, but I can always make it short sleeved. I even have a brown velvet vest that fits him, as well as this cool black velvet jacket that has fake cuffs that stick out of the sleeves so it makes the arms a little longer, unfortunetly I would need to take off his hands to get it on. I will save that for another day. They are standing in this photo but I haven't made any bottoms for them and they said I could only post if it was only a waist up shot..lol..
